Food: It was OK…read more Server: 5 stars! Our server Kaitlyn was wonderful. She did her best, was kind and attentive in spite of the challenging circumstances. Ambiance: Great atmosphere. Hopefully this restaurant will be preserved in the future as it is: classic with supper club vibes.

MJ Stevens has been on my list to visit for many years, but it isn't close to where I live, and…read morewhenever I drive past it, I'm not hungry or I drive by too early. Tonight I was driving back home from Appleton and I hadn't eaten dinner yet. I ordered the Prime Rib and Shrimp combo, which included a 12 oz cut of prime rib (I'm guessing it was the 12oz duchess cut based on price point), 4 breaded and fried shrimp, choice of potato (baked potato, waffle fries, crinkle cut fries, or a vegetable), and choice of soup or salad. The prime rib was thick and tender, but not as tender as I've had at most other places. It could be because it was after 8:00, so it sat longer than usual - maybe? I also thought the prime rib was under-seasoned. I dipped each piece I cut into the pool of jus on the plate. The jus was lightly seasoned, but helped provide flavor to the prime rib. The shrimp batter was nicely seasoned but thicker than I prefer, so it was hard to taste the shrimp itself. The crinkle cut fries were crisp and lightly salted. I chose not to order the included soup or salad, since I already had a big meal coming. My service from Angela was excellent, and I thought the price and amount of food provided a great value. A couple of minor adjustments could have helped my dinner live up to the expectations I had, based on the recommendation I received.

I ordered the fried bluegill and my wife ordered the salmon, both of which were prepared perfectly. Just a great atmosphere and has a huge patio overlooking the lake. I recommend this place to anyone!

First time here…read more Food: It was a Friday evening, around 8:00, and we decided to try some of the fish specials. I ordered the Pan-Seared Walleye, and she chose the Lake Perch Fry. Since our entrées included access to the salad bar, we started there. The appearance of the salad bar was disappointing. I realize it was later in the evening, but there were literally salad bar fixings all over the place. Some items were mixed together, some had spilled onto the enclosure, and there was food on the floor as well. Much of what was offered looked like it had come straight out of a can. The walleye wasn't bad. However, the mixed vegetables were a pile of mush, and although I had requested the potato pancake be extra crispy, it was still undercooked in the middle. The perch fry was okay, but nothing special. For dessert, she ordered the Brandy Alexander, and I had the LemonBerry Cake. The Brandy Alexander was very good, while the LemonBerry Cake was mediocre. Service: Our server did a nice job getting us settled in. Water and drinks arrived promptly, and they were friendly and pleasant throughout the evening. However, they became involved in a lengthy conversation at another table, so getting our check took quite a while. Atmosphere: To be honest, the place looks a bit run-down and could probably benefit from some TLC. Since it was later in the evening, there weren't many other diners, and the restaurant was relatively quiet. The view of the lake through the windows is spectacular and makes it a great place to watch the sunset. I wish the food had been better. Unfortunately, this isn't a place we are likely to return to.

Apparently I didn't leave a review for Nuckleheadz after the one other time I had dinner there, so…read moreI had to leave one this time. I called in an order to go for a four piece cod dinner with seasoned waffle fries and cheese curds as an appetizer. Unlike so many other restaurants that serve crappy cornmeal breaded cheese curds that don't get crunchy and retain too much grease, the cheese curds at Nuckleheadz are true breaded cheese curds that get perfectly crunchy. I wish every every restaurant would serve the right kind like Nuckleheadz does, but I guess that's one of the things that makes Nuckleheadz special. Speaking of special, I LOVE it when the breading on fish has herbs and/or spices mixed in. It just gives the fish a little something extra. The herbs that Nuckleheadz puts in the batter they use on their cod (maybe their other fish too, I'm not sure) are phenomenal. I'm not usually big on cod, but I'm big on their cod because of it. Seasoned waffle fries are the king of all fries so that was a no-brainer. The weekly specials they post on social media often intrigue me and the hangover hash appetizer sounds fantastic (tater tots covered with bacon, nacho cheese, shredded cheese, and fried eggs), so I look forward to ordering that the next time I dine-in on a day that isn't Friday and I can't wait to get the fish fry again on a Friday with the best cheese curds around.
