I think I've driven passed Grassroots a few hundred times, and somehow never stopped in - crazy! To be fair, I think the location and lack of parking always deterred me. Turns out, that really was the case. It took me 15 minutes to find parking today, so just a heads up! But hey, that's downtown Milwaukee. That being said, I'm happy I finally had a chance to get lunch here! It's definitely a clean, neat, and cute little spot. Their ingredients all appears fresh, with many options even being organic. My kind of place! I ordered a "build your own" from the customize salad bar. Plenty of spinach as a base, with added toppings of cucumber, onion, avocado, broccoli, quinoa, and kalmata olives, topped with champagne vinaigrette. From what I understand, you can turn anything into a wrap as well! A nutritious and satiating lunch for sure. Though the place seems to often be really busy, especially during the lunch hour, the service is quick and seamless. Grassroots is onboard with the idea of changing the fast food landscape, and I'm here for it.

Hands down my go-to lunch spot of choice, every single time I am in downtown Milwaukee during a weekday. Nice, inviting seating area with bright green, salad themed décor. The line can get lengthy especially if you go right at 12pm when most working at offices around the area stream in for a salad fix. Prices are reasonable and ingredients are always fresh. I tend to make modifications to an existing wrap menu item (e.g., no onions, add broccoli). The salad artists never make me feel bad when I make modifications or give me any gruff. I have never had a wrap at this place that I did not love. I highly recommend the Kriti wrap. I also usually get a side of dressing for dipping on the side. There is a points/loyalty program offered as well. Something to consider if you find yourself downtown / in the area often during the lunch rush.

We visited Grassroots for a lunch with work, which was my first time stopping by. My coworkers all had positive experiences here and recommended going. I thought it was enjoyable and appreciated the wide variety of options to choose from. I tried the Kriti Salad, which was basically a Greek salad. I chose to add chicken. I almost wish I had tried the Asian Salad, as I think I would have liked the roasted peanut ginger dressing a little better than the Greek goddess dressing on the Kriti. Don't get me wrong, the salad was good but there were a lot of choices. The salads are large, so they are a pretty good value. One thing our group lamented about was the dressing on top made it hard to mix things up properly as the salad was so thick. It would be nice if the salad was tossed in a large bowl before being served to distribute the dressing. Other than that, everyone enjoyed their lunches. There was an issue with one of the wraps a coworker had, but the staff was quick to correct it and totally re-made the wrap. For this I would say the customer service was excellent, definitely going above and beyond. I look forward to returning at some point to try one of the other salads, or maybe go with the build-your-own. It's nice to have a healthy place to get a quick lunch so close to work.

Karma is one of my go to stops for a refreshing breakfast including some fresh fruits and protein!…read moreThis café smoothie bar is quaint (heads up they don't have a ton of seating inside) but such a cute spot to sit and enjoy your meal. I have been here a few times now and tried different bowls and smoothies- my top favorites include the protein bowl and the choco craze smoothie! I also love how you can customize and add in different ingredients, such as fruits, nut butters, or protein powder to make it your own. The food menu is fairly limited, but I will say that the avocado toast and bagel with cream cheese both hit the spot. They also serve coffee/tea drinks which I have yet to try, and have a variety of other items to look over in the shop. Every time I have stopped by the staff has been friendly and efficient in serving customers. Definitely recommend trying out Karma if you are in the Bayview area and are looking for some nutritious food/beverage options! (Yes this is coming from a Dietitian;) )

Karma Café is an amazing little spot in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee…read more There are plenty of healthy options to choose from and the Karma Bowl was particularly delicious. The strawberries and granola on top were a nice touch, along with the drizzle of honey. I went with one other person and he had the PB Protein Smoothie which was fantastic as well! I wasn't sure how well pineapple would pair with peanut butter, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. Pineapple is such a nice addition to the traditional peanut butter and banana combo. My only gripe is the price point. $10 for a smoothie bowl and $8 for a smoothie seems a little steep. But then again, you're paying for healthy, yummy, high quality food. The gal who runs the shop is also so nice and efficient. I will definitely be returning to Karma Café!

They're a bit pricey, $7, but that does include the actual boba. I got the brown sugar milk tea and the taste was not great, it has oat milk in it supposedly so maybe that's why but I've had a lot of bubble tea in my life and this was just so-so, unfortunately. I'm still drinking it (as you can tell in the photo I posted, it's half gone) because it has black tea in it as well and I could use some caffeine today. The boba itself is okay though, I saw another review on here criticizing it. I can't speak to their smoothies or bowls but I probably wouldn't order boba from here again.

I have been looking for a good Acai bowl spot in Milwaukee since I discovered them about 10 years…read moreago. I have found some local spots, but the Acai was soupy. Make Waves offers their bowls with firm Acai that is cold and stays that way long enough for you to finish. I also appreciate that the granola is layered - many other spots just put it on top and before you're halfway through, you're already out of the added toppings/ingredients. They do offer smoothies and boba too, but since they're a vendor in 3rd St Market Hall, I take my bowl to the bar and order a cocktail to go with it. Make Waves is the current vendor in the food hall that I frequently return to.
