This has been bookmarked for a while but since I like making soup at home it took me a while to get over until today for lunch. I have driven by it so many times not seeing the place since it's hidden in a strip mall. The place is super small with about four small tables so it's tight. It's basically soup, salads wraps and sandwiches and I opted for the combo of soup and a half wrap. I did a combo that probably no one else would have ordered because they are so far apart paring wise which was the chili dog chili and the grilled chicken Cesar wrap. The chili dog chili was pretty good with lots of sliced hot dogs that about every other bite had one and the texture of an all beef hot dog. The grilled chicken Cesar wrap was also good and I don't usually order wraps. I noticed right away that the wrap had lots of big moist chunks of grilled chicken and was tasty. Overall I enjoyed my lunch and I was impressed with the quality of the food and the fact that they don't skimp on the ingredients. read more

My go to spot when I'm under the weather. So much comfort in the soups they make. This visit I left with a trio of soup. Chicken and dumpling has a good broth with plenty of crunchy carrots and flavorful chicken. Tried the pulled pork with beans chili for the first time and enjoyed the nice balance of sweet and tangy. The last in the trio and my personal favorite, is the African peanut and chicken. Such an enjoyable combination of spicy flavors mixed with rice and chicken. Bowls come with bread and the friendly staff will also add in crackers and butter. Good way to help shoo the flu or get some comfort when you have a winter cold. Get your soup on! read more

All I can say is that I have seen lines twice as long at Subway go faster. I was there 20 minutes waiting behind 4 other customers. most of that time I did not know what soup was available. How about a chalk board or easel with todays soup? It is also disheartening to see them refill their line with soup out of a bag. read more

I am glad my husband and I came across this place! The food here is amazing and the service is fast and friendly although the prices are a bit on the higher side for a soup and sandwich place. The place is a little small and may feel cramped if it's full but there were about 6 others there when we went and it wasn't bad. The only negative thing is that when I used the restroom, it felt like the toilet was going to come right out the the wall because it was so wobbly. I am 5'11" and 180 pounds. A long long time ago(1999) this place opened up called Stewps and they served only soup or stew with a side of the most delicious sourdough bread ever. It was my favorite lunch spot ever. Then they expanded into making cookies and opened a second location in Waukesha. Somewhere along the line they closed and in 2009 a new shop opened that also served soup and was a cunningly similar design and setup. It was called the Soup Market. Hales corners was its third location and is still standing strong. What happened to Stewps is a mystery but I feel The Soup Market is a great solution. They are a tiny shop located in an out-lot strip mall in front of Consumers and Bethesda thrift along Hwy 100. But for being so small there is still enough room to pop in about 8 tables with seating for about 18. While it sounds like a lot, lunch rush can get cramped in there! The Soup Market has a great thing going with a large variety of soups that change daily and are available in three sizes. They offer fresh salads in two sizes, deli sandwiches and grilled sandwiches as well. For sides you can get cookies, soda, ice cream and a side of bread. I ended up getting the pick two combo which is a half deli sandwich and a cup of soup. It doesn't sound like much but it's certainly filling. I opted to take the free pack of oyster crackers in lieu of ordering bread. Good idea on my part. There was plenty of turkey in my sandwich, however there wasn't much chicken to be found in my soup. I can forgive it this time only because the flavor packed such a memorable punch. I can still taste the curry. From other reviews this appears to be the standard but I'll wait until another visit to make a final judgment on the great meat debate. I'm not sure why others have poo-pooed the staff because at the height of the lunch rush I was treated quite well. Each woman was friendly and helpful to not only me, but other customers. I even heard one man ask "how hearty is the stew?" This is a very subjective question and it was answered quite diplomatically. Another customer was raving for minutes about the cheese and asking what it was, where it came from, etc. they offered to call downtown to the distribution office to find out. Most food service employees will not go that far for a non-regular customer. I love the ease of ordering and paying, and the LCD monitors with the offerings of the day. All the daily soups are listed online, but there is a display in store that lists all the ingredients for each daily soup - handy for allergy sufferers. There is a club card to collect stamps for a free item. There is really a lot to like about this place! read more

Stopped in for a quick bite before heading to the movies. I ordered a bowl of Hoisin Pork Stew ($6.50) with tender pieces of pork, sweet potato, celery, and other veggies in a chicken broth. A little salty, a little sweet, and a lot of savory flavor. Soups include a large chunk of fresh white or wheat bread. This location could use a good refresher course in customer service. Let me start by saying this was definitely not our first visit to this location, but it could very well be our last. My husband picked up 2 quarts of soup (to go) late in the morning, and when I poured them into pans to reheat them for dinner the Tailgate Soup was abysmal. If you check their description, it should be Beer Cheese Soup with chunks of bratwurst in it. Well, let me tell you . . . the beer cheese soup was a gloppy mess because it had already broken, which tells me it had been reheated - by them - at too high a temperature. I hadn't even turned the heat on under my saucepan yet! But even more disappointing was that there were 2, counted 'em twice to make sure and still only needed the fingers on one hand, 2 small pieces of bratwurst in the whole quart!! So I called to lodge a complaint and was told that they just ladle the stuff, they don't count how many pieces of the ingredients end up in a container. Some people get more, some get less. No apologies were offered. Just an excuse and basically I was told, that's your hard luck. Their price for a quart of cheese soup turns out to be $11.50 plus tax. Ok, I guess the 50 cents was for the two 3/4 inch long bratwurst chunks, so $11 for cheese soup. In Wisconsin!!! America's dairyland!! Sad...so sad. read more

Service is really good and I love the idea of a place just for soup, but this joint was way better when it was Stewps. I haven't been here for a while, so I decided to take my younger daughter there for lunch. She had the chicken noodle and I had a sea food type. Both were marginal at best. She skipped the noodles and chicken, just eating the broth. At first I thought she was being picky, so I tried her soup. Noodles had the consistency of wet rice and chicken was rubbery. Very little flavor. My sea food soup was a bit... tart. I should say 'seafood', because the flavor was there, but the seafood must of settled to the bottom of a big pot, because it didn't make it to my bowl. They also serve a chunk of bread with the soup. Good idea, but the bread was horrible. Hopefully this was an anomaly, but my bread was stale and borderline mold tasting. There is no way it was fresh baked that day. Fast, friendly, new daily menu's, and delicious soup...what more could you ask of a place? A major bonus point to this shop is that they have a rotating menu of soups daily, and always include at least 2-3 vegetarian soups (made in vegetarian broths) as well as a vegan soup! Their soups are delicious and filling. I have tried the creamy tomato bisque and Jamaican stew soup, both equally satisfying. If you're in the mood for something more chewable, they also serve salads and sandwiches. I am giving this place four stars because of the soups. The soups really are tasty and creative. I went there today for lunch and picked up some food for my mom and I. We tried the carrot ginger soup which was good as well as the French onion soup and turkey chili which were awesome. The bottled vanilla rootbeer is very good and we also tried the 1/2 egg salad sandwich and quiche Lorraine which were ok, but nothing too memorable. I really struggled with what to give this place, 3 or 4 stars but because it seems underrated to me I went with 4 stars. However, there service definitely needs improvement. The two female employees were overall very brash and short with me. There should have been more than 2 people working. Also, I originally asked for a chopped salad and they didn't have it so I then asked for the chicken and broccoli quiche. They proceeded to tell me I had to get it myself from the refrigerator. So after looking through the first eight I asked if they even had what I wanted and they had no idea. Overall, go for the soup and rootbeer, the rest of the stuff I would skip. As soon as I was through the door my brother and I were greeted warmly. The work staff were fast and friendly in getting our order filled. I ordered the Hungarian goulash stew and it was awesome. My Father in-law knows the owners so you can call him biased, but always said this place was good. Today, with my two children, I decided to stop in since we were next door. I walk in and there was only one other couple they're giving their order. I was told by the older woman working (Connie?) "I'll be with you just a moment". I said okay and continued to look at the menu. I knew what I wanted to order so I stand back and patiently wait until the older woman working is finished with the couple giving their order. As I'm waiting another older couple walks in, obviously regulars, as the woman working greets them by name and asks what they'd like, completely skipping me. They look at me, and I step forward to give my order. I tell her- "Can I have a grilled cheese sandwich..." Bonnie- "children's or regular?" ME- "regular." "With a cup of chicken dumpling, and..." Connie- (to the regulars) "So... I talked to..." She COMPLETELY interrupted my order to talk to people she clearly knows, who from the minute they walked in, obviously couldn't wait (and didn't wait) to talk to them. I attempt to continue with my order and was interrupted and "Connie" and the regulars speak over me. After about TWO MINUTES of them talking and me standing there, contemplating walking out, (looking back now, I wish I would've) finally "Connie" says "what else would you like?" Annoyed, I say "I don't know, are you done taking now?" In which she replies- "I can talk and listen at the same time!" REALLY?? You may, but how RUDE is that?! And to interrupt someone mid order?? Like you REALLY couldn't wait?! I don't know if "Connie" is the owner, or employee, but I will NEVER go back and will NEVER recommend this place to anyone! As we sat there eating, a few more regulars came in, in which "Connie" was completely nice to. I then realized that you have to be a regular there to get any service or respect, forget customers driving through, or potential new customers such as myself. Sitting there I heard "Connie" complain to customers about her hours, other staff on other shifts, and received a personal phone call in which everyone could hear, as she yelled her frustration regarding someone not being picked up in time. If this is the owner- WOW. Just wow. If it's an employee, get rid of her! Who knows how many other potential customers she's chased away. No move was made to come take our order. There were 2 adults & a child sitting at a table - they must have known the employee because one of them went in back & told her we were there. A quaint, friendly restaurant that makes their own soups, sandwiches, AND ice-cream from scratch, all within view of their loving customers? Consider me a fan. My husband and I have driven past the Soup Market nearly every day since we've moved to Franklin, and every time we do, we seemed to mention how we needed to stop in. We finally got the motivation recently, as the weather has started to actually get cold. Oh, how we lament waiting this long. The soup is hot, comforting, and hits the spot. They Offer an excellent grilled-cheese sandwich. I didn't get any (because we were so full!), but they make their own ice-cream in house. The flavor at the top of the list was fig and mascarpone. (Shut the front door!) I will definitely be back for some o' that. As we were walking out, the friendly staff chatted with us, and we explained how the cold weather had finally brought us in. Apparently, in the summer they have great soups that will appeal to you even then! I'm sure I'll be back to check that out for you, dear reader. Soup was very good. Sandwiches were pre-made in a stand-up fridge and were a little soggy. The primary issue was the service and the quality of the staff. The two ladies working were ok; the cashier was sullen but the other one was friendly. Their personal grooming left something to be desired. The kitchen seemed grungy. I could deal with all of this though, because the the soup was quite tasty. However, the reason I will not be returning to this location is that the moment we walked out the door and before we were even in our car, the two workers followed us out to the store front and both lit up a cigarette, standing less than 5 feet from our car and watching as the smoke wafted into our car while we loaded our baby into his car seat. Having seen the location at the Public Market, I plan to go there in the future and will not return to the Hales Corners location. The soup is something you don't want to miss, but hit up one of the other Soup Markets. read more
