We had a bad experience with Gravenhurst Plumbing. We had asked for a quotation they refused saying this would have to do he work time and materials. As someone who has been in construction for many years I knew there was no legitimate reason that they could not give us a quote but it was winter and we had to get our heating back on. I warned them that they would need an 4x4 to get in to the cottage. They said no problem that they had AWD trucks and vans. I went up to check on their work on the second day and found they did not bring one of their AWD vehicles and had parked their van 500 metres from the cottage. They had a journeyman (sometimes 2) walking up and down the road all day long to get material. I was angry because we were paying about $1200 per day to have this person walking up and down the road. They promised that they would have an AWD van the next day - so I went up to check on them again at the end of the day - again they did not bring up an AWD vehicle. They knew the circumstance we were in and took advantage of it. In the end the work ended up costing us $6,000 more than it should. The work was OK but they also sold us a story that they could build the type of system we wanted and was there originally. This proved to be wrong. Never give these people your VISA number read more

I would give a negative zero star,this company ripped me off totally.I had them attend to service my ground source heat pump. The compressor was replaced two years prior to this service call. During the testing phase the technician was startled by a rapid rise in amperage. He did not attempt to shut off the breaker ,but watched passively as current continued to rise to 28 amps ,at which time the compressor exploded, spewing Toxic refrigerant gas throughout my home. I was subsequently billed for approx $500 for less than one hour service time that ended up costing over $16000 for total furnace replacement. This bill was paid under protest and no apologies or compensatory rebates were proffered by the management. Never deal with this unscrupulous company they are not worthy of customers valuable time and money. read more

Now I know why he would not accept payment. Rec'd a bill for over $900! Told me a garbage story, and I agreed to pay $700 just so it would gone. I considered writing a letter to the President/Owner of Gravenhurst Plumbing but realized that based on other reviews they really don't care about their reputation because they are using their location as an attractive adjective 'Gravenhurst' to people in need. In NO way do they reflect the prosperity and hope that the town of Gravenhurst offers retired Seniors and Investors. In my opinion, they are THIEVES that prey on Seniors. Plain and simple. People expect amazing service because of their name: 'Gravenhurst' Plumbing, but BEWARE these people are Wolves in sheep clothing. You'll find this out when you are over 80 years of age and you receive a bill of $1,500, when they've done less than 4 hours of work at your home, and left your needs in worse shape than what they were to begin with! I asked them to fix my water filter, they just made it worst than charged me a lot for it. When I called they never answered, not to mention the person who came on the job was smoking and kept making phone calls yelling at someone, guessing his wife or ex wife? I have had a very disappointing experience with Gravenhurst Plumbing recently. I had one leaky (L-H) tap in my downstairs bathroom. On September 9 the plumber who came said I needed a new cartridge & recommended I replace the cartridge in the R-H tap as well. She did not tell me what each cartridge cost. I received the bill the next week - each cartidge cost $115 and the L-H tap started to leak again. A second plumber came the next week. He said he would have recommended a new faucet from the start but made some adjustment to the original & it seemed to work - for a few days. When I contacted their office on Sept 21/22 the receptionist said they could send someone out but they would recommend a new faucet & I should go ahead & purchase one & then make arrangements to have them install it for the usual labour charges. When I queried the original $400 bill the woman on the phone was not empathetic. I am a widow on a pension so I can ill afford to have $400 go down the drain - & now the 2nd (R-H) tap, which was fine before the cartridge was changed is now leaking as well. I certainly will not be using this company again nor will I recommend it to anyone. BTW: a new comparable faucet costs $170 - less than the 2 cartridges! I should have read the reviews before I contacted this company as there seems to be a theme about seniors being taken advantage of & I certainly feel that way. read more

Hired them to do a generator service at the cottage under their maintenance plan which is $200, at this point I really do not know if they actually did anything, but their invoice was promptly paid. As I reviewed the invoice I realized they stated that the service included a change of spark plugs and a little below it stated that they could not reach the spark plug... long story short, I inquired with the office, who stated that their service costs the same whether they do the work fully or not. They then stated that they will review the invoice and determine if they should charge hourly (since they could not perform the full maintenance) and whether a refund is due. Trust is paramount with a local company that supposedly does work when the owner is not around (cottage country), and GPHE did not gain my trust with such conduct. What I am concerned about is whether they actually do ANY work (supposedly changed oil and filter) or even worse, if they caused damage. What should have happened was that the electrician should have called and state what he can and cannot do, and adjust the invoice accordingly. It likely would have results in a $20 discount which is not meaningful if the customer gains trust and a long term relationship ensues. I am waiting on Sandy to do a review come Monday, looking forward to seeing if this review is worth amending based on their response. I am also looking forward to check the generator to ensure it actually still works and whether any service was performed. read more

My 96 year old mother called Gravenhurst plumbing to check out a leak behind her washing machine. She was told she needed a new machine. Only there 15 minutes and was charged 220.00$. I called the office and complained. Their response was, oh that's not right and cut the bill back to 160.00. I think they will take advantage of people ,especially seniors. We need to look out for our parents as they age. read more

Absolutely a rip off sending 2 people to our residence, one being a trainee and charging $175 Hr. for labor. Thus was simply for changing 2 water filters and a black light in our filtration system which draws water from the lake. I called to complain and left a voice mail with their plumbing department and as usual they never return calls Will never ever ever use them again read more

After years of asking for help with a Geothermal unit that never worked from the onset. After scores of unanswered calls we were forced to get another heating company to correct the problems. We paid Gravenhurst $68,000 for the system and had to put in a backup propane system to heat our home because they never fixed the problem. This year we had a leak because a pipe froze and burst. After opening walls we discovered that Gravenhurst pulled out all the insulation to put in their ductwork and never replaced the insulation. I would not recommend this company for an installation nor expect them to service the unit as they refused to do so from the onset. If Yelp had a zero star rating, that would reflect my confidence in Gravenhurst electric. See Jack R's review from 12/20/2015. He had the same issues as I did. read more

Gravenhurst PHE came recommended to us so we were confident in them initially. They did good work in terms of installation with a furnace system, generator, etc. but when it came time to provide service and address several issues that arose with these systems within the first year after installation they were basically useless. Would send guy out to have a look, and they never missed an opportunity to write an invoice or bill for their time, but they were frequently incapable of diagnosing the problems, some of which we still have to date, and generally were uninterested in taking responsibility, or seeing things through when they weren't easily fixed. read more
