This place is like an amazing flashback into my 90s childhood, when I admired everything my 7-years-older, punk rock-loving brother ever did or liked. They have CDs, records, VHS tapes, t-shirts, record players, short wave radios (?!?), and have decorated the place with vintage arcade game consoles, concert posters, and (my bf's fave) MF Doom art. As of right now, their backroom is being used for storage, but my bf visits here regularly and apparently, pre-pandemic, they had live shows occasionally. I'm really looking forward to having that return. Buy a t-shirt, some vinyls, some stickers, and CDs. In June of 2024 I took my Fisher 30 bought in 1970 to him for repair. He took 50$ deposit and never got back with me despite my calling , emailing and visiting the store on multiple occasions. I finally picked it back up last week (May 2025)and it was stacked with 100 more in store and it had never been touched ! They refused to refund the 50$. AVOID this place ----they have problems. read more

I love this place. My son and came here today and couldn't find the record we were looking for (although they could order it) but we had a blast playing free arcade games. We purchased a Gravity records shirt and it is super comfy. I also scored a free sticker with a pic of one of their rescue dogs named Mama. We went to Galaxy on a recent vacation and were thoroughly charmed. The shop has a great selection given its size and very high - quality vinyl with fair prices. I saw a Duke Ellington album up on the wall for 9.99. It was in good shape but it was dirty and had no inner sleeve. The employee working there did a good job cleaning it. When I asked for an inner sleeve I was told it would be a dollar. That totally turned me off. Besides that album I had 2 others for 22.99 and 2.99. I guess they couldn't afford giving me an inner sleeve. read more

As far as I know.. there's only 2 real Record shops in Wilmington. Gravity seemed much more 'cool' than the other one I've been to, so I was excited to check through their stock. They have a huge selection of vinyl.. HUGE... and a lot of it priced reasonable.. I bought about 10 LP's from here and about 6-7 of them played through pretty damn good.. which isn't bad for old records... most of the time I'm happy with about 50% The others were playable, and I don't mind a pop or fuzz from analog music. but when it skips over half tracks of a song.. I consider it useless. That being said... they carry an amazing selection of new records as well.. and the prices are right where they should be.. not cheap (vinyl never is) but not pretentious either. They also appeared to have a large selection of players and equipment as well. All in all.. I look forward to my next trip. read more

Nice little record shop downtown. The have a wide selection, a lot of older stuff. They do have some more recent stuff but it's mostly rock. They have 99¢ classical records. The guys working there were also cool. Definitely check it out if you're in the area. read more

By far one of the best record shops I've ever been to! Complete with a welcoming knowledgeable staff and record shop doggie friend who made my day. Though they didn't have the exact record I was looking for (a pretty rare one by the way) they were still happy to keep me in the loop if they came by it. This is as good as it gets in southeast NC for sure. Their new-ish location in a rebounding neighbourhood near downtown is full of charm and of course good records. The thing I loved about this place was that there wasn't an insane amount of stock - just the well curated quality items. I came away with some real surprises (vinyl) from both the main racks and the 'dollar' section. The joint also refurbishes stereo and hi-fis and has a stage and performance place in a back room. Staff were super nice and my wife and i (formerly local) left the place going; "we gotta do something like this where we live" (Denmark). Fair prices, interesting location and a triumph in digging Gravity. read more

Don't let the size fool you. Excellent selection of (ballin' on a budget) 99¢ records. If you're willing to dig (which is always half the fun) there's some rare gems. Staff is chill and welcoming. Lucky to be there right as a local collector was dropping off 4 crates of dusties. read more

Gravity is holding the torch for independent records stores in this town. They support the local music scene, carrying local bands records and even doing in store performances. They are all very involved in the community and are a good example of a independent store, owned by locals who earn their support. While I wish they had a huge selection of LPs and could buy all my (your) worthless CDs, its just not reality in this economy. Music store for music people. Been to this shop twice while on vacation. If you are a vinyl junkie you'll be disappointed. It's mostly dreck like you'd find at a goodwill or local thrift store. The new selection is very selective and the decent used vinyl is overpriced. $20 each for clean Beach Boys vinyl. Fairly hipster atmosphere. The second time I visited I found nothing in the store I needed for my collection until I was about to leave and flipped a bin and found two things I wanted. They were not priced and the guy at the counter sold them to me for $15, which was more than fair. If you're addicted to vinyl like me, you might find a gem but not likely. read more

Gravity is a fairly large space with a nice vibe inside the store. Lots of really cool show posters cover the outside windows and the inside walls. The store has a small stage right by the entrance that presumably is perfect for instore performances. There is plenty of space to move around, which turns out to not be a very good thing... I came to pick through vinyl records and was extremely underwhelmed by Gravity's offering. Not in content- but just numbers! The store had very slim pickings of records in general, and a majority of their used records were in very bad shape. I didn't look through their cd racks, but its clear that the store focuses on the dead medium of cd's. A real shame. I wish this place had just a little more to offer. Vinyl collectors don't require a store packed full of rare gems, but a healthy selection of different types of vinyl would make this place excellent. I had to kind of stretch to find something I wanted to buy. I had to purchase something while in the store but sadly it was out of sympathy for the only indie record shop in town moreso than a desire for the music I chose. read more

My brother and I have been to record stores all over NC, but none of them compare to Gravity Records. Huge selection. Lately I've come across vinyl at other stores that is ridiculously overpriced, but as another review pointed out, the prices at gravity are reasonable and not pretentious. The staff is great. They take the experience up a notch by bringing their dogs to work and they even memorized our music taste so they can point out great records of bands that we may not find otherwise. read more

Took my Vintage Califone records player that I bought off of -Bay (which is in mint condition) for a good cleaning and tune up yesterday (12-16-17). Matt and his staff were most amazing, professional with their customer service. The vibe you get as soon as you walk through the door was just so laid back and cool. I frequent Gravity at least once a week, and I just got a Yelp account.. so I figured I'd throw in a review. Gravity is by far the best place in Wilmington to buy music. The staff are very helpful, frequently cutting me great deals on records (ex. White Album, Let It Bleed, Dreamboat Annie, all for $1 each, All Things Must Pass for FREE). These copies, while not in the best shape, have all played surprisingly well, on par with $10 records I've bought at other stores. They give such great deals because they care more about getting music into people's hands than turning huge profits. On top of the prices, the selection is great. Classic rock, soul, classical, indie, electronic, hip-hop, you name it. They have a focus on indie artists and also promote local artists and the local scene. The staff are always willing to give recommendations of great artists to customers, and I've happily purchased albums and discovered new artists through what they've recommended. Everyone who works there is very knowledgable about music and I trust their pricing, opinions, and recommendations. Definitely check out Gravity if you're looking for a place to buy music. If you're like me, you'll very much prefer it to that other Wilmington record store that shall remain nameless. read more

I called and inquired about how to sell cd's. They told me how their policy works. When I got there less than 2 hours later, they wouldn't take my cd's. They said they just took in a bunch of albums and had no more money to buy anything. What kind of business is this? Why didn't they tell me on the phone this might happen? On top of it, rudeness was involved on their behalf. Needless to say, I took my business somewhere else and made $41 in which I probably would have not made there! read more

Took the little man on a trek from historic district to check this place out (gotta patron indie record stores when in any town) & it was worth it. Kind of small space with less selection than other spots I've been to. I'm not a vinyl collector, so I can't speak to that specifically. I give this place high marks for the customer service & support of the local music scene. Can't remember the gentleman's name who helped, but he provided a nice primer for the Wilmington scene, complete with samples. I've been told if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything. (insert pregnant pause) However, when the "vinyl experts" try to low ball me on a mint condition British import Columbia Records copy of "5 Live Yardbirds" w/Eric Clapton with a median price of $64.87 on Discogs, it doesn't sit well with me. They say they buy CDs but they turned away a decent collection of British Invasion, Van Morrision, Moody Blues, Lyle Lovitt, Blood Sweat & Tears, Jeff Lynn, Classical Music selections, New Age as well as "niche" artists like XTC, Squeeze, Trevor Rabin, Emitt Rhodes, etc. They seemed more interested in selling thrift store records and really used and old stereo amps, receivers and turntables. I doubt they could tell you about damping factor, speaker ohms and correct gauge of speaker cables,necessity of replacing filter caps in old Hi Fi gear, tracking force, stylus considerations and anti skew adjustments on cheap turntables or why vinyl records have to be "compressed" during the mastering and cutting process on a Neumann or Scully lathe. They are a successful business and have established partnerships with local radio stations, concert promotions and the like and have many supporters. I do wish them continued success. I will take my business to their competition however because I feel I am treated better and prefer to help local business who are still trying to establish themselves in a "niche" market in Wilmington. Since the day it opened, I have not purchased music from any other store. While it is true they never have everything I am looking for (no one ever will have every thing for everyone ) what they do have is indispensable. That is music people who have a passion for music ! They don't scowl at whatever genre of music you are looking for, and chances are one of them know more about the artist or genre than you. this means they can help you find artists you may not be familiar with.they are local,involved and care. they will keep an eye out for something you want and are often able to order what others can't or won't.I give them 5 stars easily !
