We signed on because of the great…read moreprice for a floor plan we loved, all including quality materials and the ability to save money by doing some of the smaller things ourselves. Things only got better from there. Our project manager Chanty, kept us well informed every step of the way. She was very responsive every time we had a question. And when there was a step that we were supposed to do ourselves, like cleaning or painting, she gave us the timeline well in advance, and also gave us great tips on how to accomplish those things in an easy manner. Every small problem or flaw was addressed immediately. They truly wanted us to be satisfied with a job well done. We felt well taken care of every step of the way. All of the subs were great, professional, and very talented. We were continually surprised by the quality of the workmanship and materials. It is very difficult to co-ordinate many sub-contractors, but Chanty was on top of it and did everything she could to get us into the house on a timely manner. We were never made promises that were not kept, and there were unforeseen delays, such as bad weather, but again, we were always kept abreast of the situation. We are now enjoying our very beautiful new home, still feeling like it is a dream.

I chose to do a super shell…read morewith them, so I could use upgraded doors and cabinets I have access to, as well as flooring, upgraded plumbing and electrical trim etc. This became their scapegoat for them to get out of completing the home at the end of the build. The contract is very clear on what my responsibilites are as far as the homeowner, yet they continually surprised me with new items added to my list. "Thats not included on a super shell" was the commonly used phrase, but the contract specifically stated otherwise. The build (just their part of the build) took 14 months to complete- on a super shell where I did all the finish work. When it came to the end and they said their job was done, my project manager Jolenne attempted to do a walkthrough, I told her its not ready for a walkthrough, they still had things to complete. She asked me to sign the walkthrough form, I said no I'm not signing that until its done. Her boss Cort later told me I didn't allow them to do a walkthrough... this is blatantly false. Luckily I have enough experience I was able to complete the home which is now livable. To top it off I have a friend and a coworker who had homes built by Hiline during the same time period and they had very similar frustrations, despite their homes being complete builds and not super shells like mine. Do better Hiline.

Moss remained on portions of the roof, a shingle was knocked loose, the roof treatment was insufficient, and the gutters were not cleaned as agreed. What disappointed me most was that there was no quality review or follow-up by management to confirm the work had been completed properly or to obtain my approval before considering the project finished. A-1 offered to return and redo the work. However, when a service falls this far short of the agreed scope, I believe either a different crew should be assigned or a refund should be offered. I was no longer comfortable having A-1 continue with the project. I hired another company to complete the same scope of work. They performed the work thoroughly and professionally. After seeing the condition of my roof, they commented that A-1 should not have charged me for work that was not completed. If you choose to hire A-1, I recommend requesting a thorough quality inspection at the conclusion of the job and providing final approval only after verifying that all work in the proposal has been completed. I also recommend questioning the requirement for a 50% down payment, as the company appears to have minimal upfront material costs for this type of service.

They arrived on time with 7 men, they were able to do our garage and home in just 1 day, we love the roof we picked out, it's very pretty. We had to have several more pieces of wood replaced as there was more damage to the roof then we thought, we also had all 3 skylights removed, not too bad in the house that a little vacuum couldn't take care of. I wasn't at home, but my husband was, I felt it was my responsibility to make sure if anything came thru the holes from the skylights it was my responsibility to cover up anything or lay a sheet down. They didn't leave a mess, all of the men were polite and efficient. We would definitely call them again if we ever need any roofing needs.

We were told multiple times that we would be contacted with an estimate for the service, and every time we contacted, we were told that they were "in the field" and would call back, but never did. This went on for over a week. My wife is a disabled Army veteran. I have severe chronic back issues, and I'm currently awaiting an appointment with a specialist to determine if I have cancer. ServiceMaster completely turned their backs on us in a time of need and refused to even communicate with us. It was another blow that was absolutely devastating following the massive loss we experienced from the flood. Needless to say, we eventually gave up on the company altogether. The cleanup still continues. I will NEVER recommend their service to anyone.
