I was searching for a new barber. I tried one in Mundelein, but was disappointed so I decided to give Frank a shot. He was nothing short of exceptional. Knew exactly how to cut my hair and really took his time and paid attention to every detail. When I first walked in, Frank was immediately friendly and welcoming, which was refreshing compared to some of the other experiences that I have had where it feels like you are just another number. The $21 cost for a cut is a little bit on the high end in my opinion compared to other barbershops, but given how good of a job Frank does on your hair, it is worth every penny. You do need to keep in mind two things though: first, make sure that you bring cash because they don't take debit or credit cards; second, if you are bringing your child or children with you, be sure that they are well-behaved. During my visit, Frank had to ask a woman with a couple of small children to quiet down because they were making noise. Quite frankly, I didn't interpret it as Frank being mean to them; rather, I got the impression that Frank takes a lot of pride in his craft and wants to make sure that he gives everyone a 5 star experience, and loud children could potentially detract from that. I hadn't had a decent haircut in about 8 years, ever since my over-priced stylist moved to Arizona. After bouncing around from salon to salon and one or two attempts at the "fast food" haircut places (you know, the ones where you basically order a cut by number from the menu), I finally decided to try an old school barbershop. Enter Frank. After hours obsessively researching online, I decided to give Grayslake Barber Shop a try due to it's outstanding (albeit) limited reviews. I was not disappointed. As soon as I walked in, he had me at the giant tub of beer on ice and a straight edge against the neck of the guy in front of me. My head was a mop. I had no idea what I wanted, or even what my hair could handle. I told him to have at it - he was the artist and I would trust him. Well, he pretty much nailed the first decent cut I've had in a long time! I have a few slight modifications for next time, and trust me, there will be a next time! Thanks to Frank for having the guts to move out to the burbs from the city. Sometimes you meet people in life, the essential ones, that you want to know forever that often become your go-to everytime you need that 'something' done right. I have a strong relationship with an auto mechanic, my doctor's number is in my cell phone's favorite list, I have friends that I've stayed in contact with for over 25 years... you get what I mean. Grayslake Barber Shop was a two hour round trip drive from my apartment in Chicago... I now live in NYC and the round trip journey is roughly 25 hours+ -- which I would gladly do! But for the last six months, I've been making the 6+ hour round trip from LGA to ORD. Each time I make the trip, there's a scotch or whiskey waiting, great tunes are playing, and I always walk away with a flawless strait razor shave & a haircut that goes beyond expectation. Frank is a rockstar in my book and I pray that one day he opens a shop in Brooklyn. No matter, he'll be my barber until the day I'm buried. I've got it on my will, he'll be cutting me in my pinebox. I'm going to start by stating that I've never been to a barber shop before this. Always been a Sport Clips guy. Am on vacation and needed a cut so I looked up barbers and Frank came with high reviews as he should. I was happy with every bit of my haircut as well as the conversation. For a guy in his 40's with over 20 years of experience, he knows his way around a head of hair. Gave styling tips and after I told him what I wanted, he explained what he's going to do with my style of hair and did exactly that. Ian thoroughly happy with the cut. He is walk-in only and I came in just after he finished up with another client. He's a solo show and well worth the $21 haircut. Best barber around! I usually have my buddy cut my hair but we were both pressed for time so I decided to try out this place based off the yelp reviews. I'm so happy I made that decision. At first, I forgot to bring cash and I told him I'd run to the bank real fast and without hesitating he told me to just get it after the cut. It's refreshing when you have a business owner respect and trust you to the point they'd be willing to earn your business before you pay. Frank was not only trusting he's also a damn good barber. I went to this barber shop today and had my hair cut by the owner, Frank. Frank is a very friendly gentleman, and he has been a professional barber for over two decades; the quality of his work is self-evident. I used to go to chains like SportClips. There, I paid more money and essentially rolled the dice on whether I was going to get a good haircut. With Frank, who is a true professional, I pay less money, get a fantastic haircut (and even a stright-razor shave on the back of my neck!), and walk out feeling more than satisfied. Northern Lake County, we finally have a proper Barber, in a proper Barber Shop. Cutting hair is in Frank's genes as a 4th generation barber, and it shows from the moment you walk in the door, you see his numerous shears and clippers clean and laid out meticulously. Been to see him twice and have been more than satisfied each time. Having a full, majestic beard, it's tricky finding somebody that knows how to shape and trim it without ruining months of work.
