Fair prices, easy scheduling, great environment, fast service and most important - great haircut Expanded review: I searched around for quite a while when I moved to the area. I had gone to the same place for 6 years so I wasn't excited about finding someone new. The moment I walked in, I knew I found the right place. The environment is very low key - not a lot of frills, more of the classic feel you want when coming to a barber. Frank got to work immediately and did a great job. He took his time but got me in and out in under 30 minutes. I also accidentally gave him $20 extra in cash without realizing it. Frank made sure to point it out because even though he did a great job, I wasn't planning on tipping over $20. I was very appreciative he was honest and let me know. I usually wait a few weeks after a haircut to make an opinion because some times it looks good initially but a week or so later, not so much. 1. Called to make sure that they do kids' cuts, provided my child's age to double check. 2. Went to the place and waited for 30 minutes and the owner can see that my child is a typical three year old. 3. Put my child in the seat and he was moving nervously. 4. Owner said "I can't cut a kid who moves." Had the most horrible experience here. I called to make sure they cut kids' hair, even included the age of my child. The answer was "Yes I have patience! I'll cut his hair." We went in and waited for half an hour, my child was being himself, running around and being a 3 year old. The owner saw us the whole time and didn't say anything. When it was our turn he shakes his head and said I can't cut a kid who moves. I have no problem with him refusing service but he had two opportunities to save me the hassle and the time. Wish there was an option to give no stars. If you are a parent to a young child and you wanted to support a local business, this is not the place for you read more

Hands down best place ever for a men's cut.....Frank the owner is a cool ass dude and knows how to cut hair.... the atmosphere is nice and the prices are as well, I highly recommend going here and make sure to bring cash because that's all he accepts. I was trying to find a closer barbershop near me as the one I normally go to is a little far of a drive, so I found this one seeing that they do accept walk-ins but I figured being a Saturday I might not get in, I walk in nice little shop, just the owner nice guy named frank, he said he was booked but I should wait cause he might be able to squeeze me in. Very disappointed. My children and I came to the Grayslake Barbershop on Friday to get a haircut for my son. The sign said open until 4 and we got there at 345, it was closed. But no big deal, it's a small business and it has just snowed, I understand closing early. We came back today, Saturday, around 10. We walk in, say hello to the owner and he doesn't say anything to us, but again no big deal, he did have a customer in his chair. My kids go play in the kids room and play with each other so I sit and start my grocery list. A few moments later my daughter started to cry and I asked what happened- her brother had thrown that ball at her. The owner looks up and then says "I'm sorry ma'am you'll have to leave, I will not cut your sons hair. I don't allow violence." I stood there in somewhat of shock because yes my kids had an argument but the owner did not allow me to parent . He treated my son like he was a bully. I had my son apologize to his sister, the owner just looked at us so we left and talked in the car. My daughter was teasing him so he threw a ball at her, my daughter said he didn't throw it hard- he just threw it. My daughter overreacts quite often. You can tell her you don't like a color and she will cry. And my son should not have thrown a ball at her. But I didn't even get a chance to discipline my kids. Maybe the owner had no patience today and didn't want to handle kids being kids. But I know that I will not go back there and I will tell everyone I know this is why. read more

I've been going to Frank to get my hair cut for a while now. He used to have a chair about a block from my house at Belmont Barbershop. When he decided to open up his shop all the way up in Grayslake, I was bummed (selfishly)...to say the least because it was so far. I'm happy for him because he deserves his own shop, though. No one has ever given me the fresh and clean status Frank has given me (every time). His attention to detail is impeccable. I now (begrudgingly) carry my happy ass all the way to Grayslake to get my haircut. No one is as good as Frank at making my difficult hair look like it came from a hipster magazine. Amazing experience! So much so that I am writing a review (which I never do). My son, scarred for life with getting bad haircuts, insists on doing it himself or with my help. After hacking away, I knew I needed a professional, so I called to schedule an appt. Frank said he wasn't available until next week. I let him know my son had an interview tomorrow, and I recently tried cutting his hair myself, and it was not going well. He quickly said he could fit us in and made an appt the same day. The shop is clean and comfortable with a vintage appeal. The conversation was great, and Frank did a fantastic job. My son loved the haircut and was so happy with the way it turned out. Went this morning. This was my first visit to the shop and first cut with Frank. Frank gave a solid cut, and I left with exactly what I asked for. Great service and personable. Frank has been a barber for 20+ years, Chicago native that recently headed to the northern suburbs. Shop has been open for about three months. Walk-ins only, for now.
