April 25, 2023 Went to frobergs next door and smelled the smoke and saw they made boudin; I'm there! Mr Freak (owner and a very friendly guy) and I hate that I don't have great, positive things to say about his meat but, I'm always honest with reviews (as I see it, eat it) He let me taste the boudin he had just prepared; umm no brother that's NOT boudin the way French people make it. It was a bit spicy but, it was just mushy w/a chunk of smoked meat (I think) was chicken but, I didn't ask. I tasted sliced smoked peppered turkey which was great. I tasted jalapeno cheese sausage - greasy-overcooked. I was embarrassed but buy anything because Mr Freak and his female employee were so nice, so I randomly picked 1 smoked boneless chicken breasts to go. $15 (huge) When I got home I broke it down to package for lunch and lawd it was dry as bone. Drove out to Forberg Farms this morning which usually includes a stop at Greaks. Very disappointed this trip. I asked for a small piece of the boneless pork, got home to open up a big beef rib. Most disappointing was the smoked turkey leg. It was probably a left over from earlier in the week. Should have know better when there only two in view. Unless you can verify it is fresh, I'd pass unless you like jerky on a stick. Just also unwrapped the quarter chicken. also tuff as nails. Looks like I just bought $50 worth of soup bones. read more

This little "restaurant " was introduced by the farm staff and it was actually the worst restaurant ever in my life. There is only one person working there as food sever( cutting and weigh meats) and cashier at the same time, BIG flies around their cutting board and meat. There is no price showing how much their bbq are and their meats are RAW to sell ! I paid $50 only for this RAW nasty three piece of ribs without utensils to eat. Been to Greaks smokehouse a few times. I bought some brisket and it was so tough I couldn't even chew it. I will say the jalapeno cheese sausage is really good but way too expensive. There aren't any prices on anything in there. It's like the guy just makes up his own prices. I just went in there last weekend to get some beef jerky which is pretty good & I was already prepared to be shocked at the price. Greaks' is a small family business. Usually father & daughter are running the store. His sausage is excellent. They are friendly and treat you like family. Greak's Smoke House is this tiny little building of delight about 4 ft away from the Froberg's Farm warehouse. They offer a variety of smoked and frozen meats, drinks, and a few refrigerated sides that might surprise you with how damn good they are. If you've been tempted by the free sausage samples they hand out inside Froberg's, then head on over to Greak's where you can get a healthy length of goodness on a bun or on a stick. Condiment options tend to be mustard or BBQ sauce. I'd stick with the mustard. Be hungry, though, because its a beast or even split one with a friend. You've been warned. If you're just looking for something to take home and munch on over the next few days, let me fully endorse their Smoked Chicken Salad. It's so good it makes me forget how much I despise mayonnaise. We take home a little container of it (enough for about 5 sandwiches) and count the minutes until the next day's lunch. We love it. Prices seem a little high but you're definitely getting your money's worth. They don't give you an itemized receipt but I'm guessing the sausage on a bun and container of chicken salad are about $7 a piece. 3.8 stars. Big fans. read more

I sampled a few things and all were excellent. The turkey pan sausage was amazing but it seemed a little high priced as was the jerky. They had my favorite thing ever, beef ribs, they were $13 a pound and each rib is 1.5 to 2 pounds. They were beautiful. I only bought a link of jalapeño sausage for $8 and it's really good. Greaks in Alvin, Buyer be ware! They've processed my deer and hogs for a few years now and the quality over the past two years has really gone downhill. For the past two years I've found bone in multiple packs of pan sausage. Links have not been packaged as requested. And this is supposed to be pork chops. It's like they took it straight from the cooler to the blade. No trim, wife said it looked like it had not even been washed with a lot of hair she removed. Mostly I'm not sure what cut this even is but it's not the chop. The owner I noticed this year is not kept well as in dirty in appearance. Greak's Smoke House has attained N.E.W.T. level mastery in the Care of Magical Creatures, or as muggles might call it, runnin' a five star meat shop/smoke house that is tucked away in a small town off a county road. You probably never would know this exists unless you got in the car for a drive to Froberg's Farm next door. And in small town lingo I don't mean next door like fifty football fields away, I mean like ten feet away and they share the same parking lot. This place has amazing food but unfortunately not a huge digital footprint, beyond a page with no reviews (FTR!) here on yelp, a hat tip in someone's flickr album, and two reviews on Yahoo local. So they definitely earn a five star review based not on how awesome their food is and how friendly their workers are to every customer (family owned, yes but slash family run?) but because this is a "local" place that deserves some positive attention. The workers are super friendly - which deserves an additional complimenting hat tip, especially if it is family run, that the teenagers are always cheerful, helpful, and the nice all-American sort of teenagers, definitely not the "Urg, have to work today, sadface and grumpyface" kind of teenager that you traditionally find cashiering at the large corporate overlord supermarkets (see companion review for Froberg's Farm on why Whole Foods is just terrible.) The parking lot of Froberg's is situated that you can either park directly in front of the grocery building part, or off to the side under the trees. You want to park under the trees maybe for the shade (in June, I am guessing yes!) but also because when you open the car door the smell instantly hits you and you realize "WOW!" If you park further away you are going to get a little less awesomeness, but it will still be there. The deer related meat stuff is possibly what they are known for (if 'ya know, you hit a deer with your car on the way to Froberg's you can just pile it into your trunk and salvage your day that you have dinner for a few nights) but they also have one of the absolute best, most favoritest treats of mine - the jalapeno and cheese smoked venison sausage - that pretty much secures my attendance at any cocktail party, barn raising party, cult meeting, fantasy football draft, or quinceanera anywhere in the city. read more

Without hesitation, I proceeded to this shack. Inside I saw one wall lined with display refrigerators with all sorts of neat stuff like sausage, meat, jerkies, and a bunch of goodies. I was really surprised. There was a line extending outside. I really didn't get to do much eye shopping because I didn't have time. Well first off if could give zero stars I world.. let me start by saying this place must take pride in being theifs and they are damn good at it. My husband is new at meat processing and called around to get prices and made the mistake telling this place that he was and screwed him so hard I felt it an hour away. He was never told that you had to have certain amount of meat to get different types of sausage was only told the price per pound and we knew how many pounds we had(it was weighted then confirmed) and we paid a deposit then 3 days later was called that it was ready went to pick it up and they proceeded to tell him it was $250 for 27 lbs of sausage!??? Wtf! Ummm no way.. then that's when they tell him that there's a 25lbs min for each kind of sausage and you only had enough for one flavor so we had to put in our own qe had to make you the other one you wanted... so why in the hell did no one call us first to tell us that??? I told him to leave the meat there is no way we were paying that(we couldn't afford to) but nope it was Hog from his first hunting trip and he wanted it.. well thanks alot Greak smokehouse I hope your able to sleep at night because everyone in this world knows that's a rip off and everyone we have talked to will not be bringing their meat to you..lessened learned and it was hard and an expensive one for us read more

We went here last year while picking strawberries in order to have a post harvest picnic on Froberg's lovely property. I wish I'd remembered how horrible the food was or I'd have skipped it when we went to pick strawberries again yesterday. It all came back to me. $30 of BBQ meats (not including any sides) intended only for 2 people, which all went to the dogs after we got home. Pork ribs needed at LEAST another 4 hours of slow cooking. The meat was rubbery, completely unchewable. I couldn't even pull it off the bone. (While technically "cooked" through", this is meat that needs a long time to cook and break down to tenderness. I struggled to chew and choke down 1 of the ribs, then wrapped up the rest for dog snacks. My friend got smoked chicken. It had been cooked 3x as long as it should have been. The skin was completely turned to ash (not just a char, but it disintegrated once she put a fork in it.). The meat on a LEG QUARTER was cooked into jerky. Zero moisture. The whole thing shattered into chunks of hard, jerky textured meat. Want BBQ sauce? Sure! (They charge for it. Who charges for single servings of sauce at a BBQ place?) We noticed that NONE or the frozen meat they sell here is marked with prices, and the per pound price is on any signage either. You pick out everything that looks good, and then get surprised once they ring it up. $8 for a tiny packet of diced ham ends. (I said, no thanks.) I don't mind paying good money for great BBQ. Pinkertons is exorbitantly priced, and worth every cent because every bite is gone and every bite is heavenly. Killens, same. Now I know. Next year, we will pack a picnic like several of the people eating around us. read more

Went yesterday and it was not so good, the sausage was ehh and nothing special. The brisket was bloody and tough and not edible, it was horrible. They do offer a good variety of meat and cheese and the sample of turkey breakfast sausage was actually ok. Since the staff was super friendly I wanted to help out so I bought a red velvet roll and it was not good either. They refrigerated it and it ruined the texture of the frosting and made the cake dry. Cake should always be served room temp. This place is very pricy and fell short of expectations. If you're picking strawberries at Froberg's but need to eat something more substantial than just fresh strawberries, Greak's is a great option for some sausages. Located in a small wooden shack next to the market, they do BBQ here. While I've never tried their other cue (brisket, ribs), they're known for their sausages here. A must get whenever I'm here is their venison-sausage link. Nice mix of meat with just the right spices to do the trick.
