Farmer's Fresh Meat market and Soul food is smack dab in the middle of the Sunnyside neighborhood of Htown! This is not a bad thing by no means, but it is not for the "faint of heart" so to speak! It IS a hood spot, no question about it! At any rate, the meat selection is fresh , it smells great with all the fresh lunch meats and sausages like a typical meat market does and the selection of cooked food behind the counter is brimming with all sorts of delectable items with everything from pig feet, spare ribs, fried chicken, baked chicken, turkey necks, yams, green beans, mac and cheese , cabbage, you name it, they got it!! I got an oxtail plate and yall it is heaped onto your container, everything is to go by the way.. So they skimp on nothing, portions are large.. !! I randomly found this place on Instacart and decided I'd make a trip there and boy am I glad that I did. This will now be where I get my meat from. The shop didn't have any weird smells and the price points were great. They have everything that you need when it comes to meats, seasonings and then some. I loved that they have different types of game sausage and Boudin. They have a hot bar inside that looks like some non heart healthy food, but looked yummy nonetheless. The highlight though was from employee, Frank. He was very pleasant and helped me get my life together as this was the first time I've been to a butcher in a long time. He guided me on what I would need for my recipes and cut my meat up just as I needed it. He took my meat to the register, helped me bag it and walked me to my car. What a lost art. I've been here a couple times now and overall, the food is really good. I've tried both the dinner and breakfast menus, and personally, dinner wins. Breakfast was just okay to me, not bad, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. Ordering through the app was super convenient, and I actually got a free slice of cake with my first order, now that which was a nice little surprise. It was pretty decent too! The greens and cabbage were flavorful, and I'm pretty sure they seasoned them with pork and not turkey. I didn't ask... but my taste buds definitely clocked it. The mac and cheese is that creamy, extra-cheesy kind. Not baked or tight like I usually prefer, so that wasn't really my thing. But everything else on the plate hit just right. Heads up, the workers move on their own time, and the line can get long. If you're trying to avoid standing around, ordering ahead on the app and doing pickup is the way to go. The food was really good! If you're looking for some delicious southern at home food this is a great option. I discovered Farmer's Fresh Meat in a foodie group I follow on Facebook. It's a butcher/meat market located off Cullen, near 610. Working in the Medical Center and living in Pearland made this an easy stop on my commute. They run weekly specials and when I see something I typically cook with like chicken, I stop on by. They have a nice variety of other meat to choose from. It's a small market that also sells basic cooking essentials. Don't come here thinking you can do all your grocery shopping at the same time. I usually draw my number and look around at spices while I wait. On top of chicken, I love the sausage selection here, particularly their green onion sausage and boudin. It's always a hit when I man the grill. They have bulk variety buying options as well. It's probably a good options for large families. This place also seems to be a hot spot for their hot food selection as well. They seem to have alot of regulars coming and just getting plates. I used to frequent this location before moving to the Northside near the Mesa location but I was nearby and I deserved a good meal. I arrived at 10:30am and ordered some sausages and hog head cheese, the butcher was dry, unfriendly and rushed so boy was I greatful he took the time out of his busy schedule to assist me! Got home and discovered the cajun beef sausage was spoiled and an attempt to salvage it was made by the butchers by overseasoning it. Money down the drain. I stood in line for the hot bar at 10:45am and the line grew longer and I watched them gradually bring out steam trays. I knew by their speed that they weren't fully prepared because lots of meats and sides weren't brought out. The kitchen opens at 11:00am but by 11:20am someone's auntie shouted from the kitchen that what was available was all they had and it would be another half hour before the full menu was available. Of course what I wanted wasn't out yet so I opted for something else because I was already irritated. I ordered a beef tip plate with mac n cheese and cowboy beans and meatloaf with mac n cheese and black eyed peas. The sides were bland, cheese was runny and beans were hard, the meatloaf wasn't cooked throughly and the meat still looked pink, instead of risking food poisoning I passed on the whole plate. The beef tips weren't tender and could've been cooked at least another 30 mins. The fountain drink machine had water leaking water from the ice machine down from the dispenser so you got a nice mix of water/ice. It was a hard pass. read more

It's not a large store, but it has everything you might need for hosting a great BBQ. The meat department had a wide variety of meat and sausages to choose from. I was very impressed with their selection and prices. I decided to try their deli food and I ordered the Turkey Neck plate with two sides: mac and cheese and green beans. The turkey necks were a good size and very meaty. They could have been a bit more seasoned, but were tender and tasty overall. The mac and cheese had a spicy kick to it, while the green beans were pretty standard. I'm trying to avoid bread, but I did taste the cornbread they served, and it was okay, although a bit too hard for my liking. The meal also came with a soft drink. Ugh. Parking is trash depending on what time you go. It's right next door to the liqua sto. Upon opening the door there is a smell, I can't describe it, but if I had to think about it, old blood and mildew. The place looked clean though, so I wasn't alarmed. So this place stole money from me today. I went and got a 2 pc dark fried chicken with two sides 7.99, I added rice and gravy for 2.99. This comes with a drink but I opted not to get it because I already had something at home. I get to the register and the man told me my total was 11 and some change. I went on a Sunday to say the least so of course it was busy.... No problem at all totally understand... but it was SLOW... the line was long bc the service was slow... when I finally make it to the front .... No chicken... (I was told a 15 min wait) which I wasn't gona do so I choose neck bones...( under the impression you can't go wrong.) needless to say the neck bones were tough (obviously rushed cooked.) ... which I had to come home and cook for about 1 hr more so the meat be eatable. The white rice was hard... the plate was sloppy.... I requested that my sides (green beans -- which were very salty ) Mac and Cheese (4/10) it was like the box kind but with more cheese sauce and pepper.)..... I also ordered a sweet potato pie (2/10) it didn't taste fresh the sweet potatoes had bean over cooked looked more like a bean pie..... more of a brown pie than orange sweet potato....over all I would rate my experience 3/10... and the food 4/10... for the effort...... seems like the had of lot of ppl actually there to buy raw meat ...
