Ordered lean brisket and rib plate with beans and potato salad. I was there with a friend, both of us first time diners. Portions were generous and tasted great, The potato salad was just like what my wife makes. There was a group of guys sitting at the long table at which we were seated and my friend asked they what the difference between the two bottles of sauce and the guy next to me explained the difference in a way that prompted me to ask if he was the owner, which he was. I told him I used to go to a BBQ place in Pasadena many years ago also named Dave's and was informed that it was his place back them. Small world. If you can get a three-meat plate for less than $20, with a couple of sides, go for it. You order at the counter and then go get it when ready. Many folks get orders to go, so it's not a fancy dining room, and has picnic-style tables. They put generous helpings on the platter, too. I had brisket, pork ribs, and jalapeno sausage and it was very good. I tend to like it a little smokier, but this was fine. Brisket was tender, ribs fell off of the bone, and sausage was sliced and crispy around the edges. Good sauces at the table as well. And, it's adjacent to a meat market and store. Wonderful!!! Such a gem hidden in a shopping center. Went to NASA and stopped here after. Here's what we got! Kids: corn dog- huuuuuuge. Like can't finish it good. Kid 2: burger with cheese - Holy crap. I hate burgers (I know) but that was insane. 2 meat plate is better than 1 because for 2 more dollars you get another meat and 2 sides. Oh my goodness was the food delicious at Dave's. I had the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich, which I have not found in Texas until now. Growing up in a state where this sandwich is king, I have been desperate to find one here. Now I have. As a matter of fact, it may have been the best one I have eaten ever. The meat was tender and juicy with a perfect amount of seasoning in the breading. One bite and I thought I was in heaven! My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and indicated it was delicious as well. The fries were crispy on the outside but tender inside and the serving was enough for 3 people. I've been going to Bay Area meets for 13 years. Great service, outstanding beef, chicken, bacon, other smoked products sausages. I was there this morning and bought 10 pounds of 80/20 ground chuck which was the lowest price I could find in the area. What they do is they package it in 1 pound freezer paper wrapping and stamped ground chuck on the paper and sell it by a bag that contains 10 of them. I've done this before and it's already a great price plus they're already pre-wrapped and very convenient to store. Anyway, while I was waiting for that I went over to the smokehouse Dave smokehouse, which is next and connected to Bay Area Meats and thought I'd grab something for lunch and I ordered a BLT to go. Got home, unwrapped it and that was one of the better BLT I've had in sometime. It was great. I will definitely go back not only for Bay Area meats but also for Dave smokehouse BLT. By the way, you can't beat the interior of both places the ambience is pretty incredible although them knickknacks they have hanging up and placed an all sorts of areas. My co worker was being nice and brought one of his favorite BBQ for us to try out. So I gave it a try. I ate it three hours later, so my okra was wet and soggy, but I like any kind of okra so I still ate it. The rib was two bones unseasoned and dry, sauce was definitely required. Brisket was the only thing I enjoyed. It was sliced and long. Sausage link was too many and not tasty to me. I didn't even eat the potato salad because of my experience thus far. Totally a hidden gem! We're on this road pretty frequently and never paid attention the building. Super cute ambiance. The meat market had soo many more options than I expected! Definitely coming back to try a couple of things. The food really exceeded my expectations in every way. From the juicy ribs, moist sliced brisket, sliced sausage, and the Mac and cheese. There was also a baked potato with inly fixings and a chicken strip basket on our table, and even those were hot and fresh. Very generous portion sizes. Service was okay, but we were surprised at how long it took for the food to come out. They were busier after we finally got our order than they we're when we arrived. The butcher shop is exceptionally clean. The large number of offerings each looked fresh and are competitively priced. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered takeout of both sliced and chopped brisket with sides of coleslaw (JUST OK), baked beans (100% Van Camps) and potato salad (better than average). The brisket was exceptional!!! I noticed a huge number of choices on the menu, very surprising given its not really a dine-in establishment...going to try catfish next time along with some boudin balls. You won't be disappointed. Always a good little lunch sport for the Clear Lake area. I must admit I don't come here very often. I ordered a brisket sandwich with potato salad as a side. Overall it was a good sandwich with a decent amount of meat and bread ratio. I did put bbq sauce on top of the pickle and onion that comes included with it. The potato salad was pretty good tasting and filling. I'm glad I did not order any more or else I would most certainly gone into a food crash. My coworkers bought the all you can eat lunch plate and were extremely happy and content. What was even more surprising is that they let you take a to go box . I would give a tip to anybody in the area that anytime after 1130 is probably a little on the late side. This place will fill up and the order line gets a little backed up. I always didn't like the layout because the drink machine and cups and silverware is all next to register. So there's a lot of cutting through people. Wait times are all dependent on how busy they are. There is an attached meat market. I've gone there a few times and have been impressed with the quality of their meat. I had the brisket plate with fried okra and potato salad, and my hubby had pulled pork with baked beans and coleslaw. The plates also come with Texas toast. Everything was home made including the fried okra (which is rare). All of the portions were large enough to share, and we even took home enough for dinner. The crust was so flavorful and chicken so fresh... it didn't need any gravy. The okra, nice crunch, fresh. Mac n Cheesy... buttery, nice texture. Now I had the double burger on prior visit and was outstanding. As well as chicken sandwich . I can walk there... and it's worth it. I have not tried the BBQ... and that's my next! What's the best complement to a meat market? A restaurant that serves meals from the same stock of meats that they sell next door. It's a casual meal featuring (for me) great BBQ. I was lucky enough to be there today when they had the large brisket sandwich on sale for $1.99. So good that people were getting bags of food to go, and then about 15 guys came in at the same time for a meal at the long table down the center of the eating area. My brisket sandwich was okay but my onion rings tasted like burnt oil. Staff seemed nice but some of the cooks were creepy as they have a straight shot view of the counter. I've had the BBQ, the baked potato, and a hamburger from here. All have been really good! Plus, it's within walking distance from my work so when we're super busy, we just call in an order and in 15-20 minutes go pick it up. Plus, when we have potlucks, work always orders a big ol' mess of BBQ yums! I actually haven't eaten inside, but I've been inside to pick up orders, and it's always been nice and clean and the people pleasant. The food is very good! The baked potato with bbq is freaking huge and delicious, and I really like the sausage and the chicken. The brisket is good too, but I'm not a huge fan of brisket, so I don't usually order it, but if it's there, I'll have a nibble. The one thing I'm not a fan of is the sauce. it's not terrible, but it's not amazing. Luckily the meat is so good, you don't need to drown it in sauce. You can also get meat by the pound to go. I can't comment on the burgers, why would you order one when the sliced and chopped BBQ sandwiches are so good? They've only been open 25 years, so I'm guessing they ain't leaving anytime soon. Ribs here are smoky, meaty. Brisket is moist. Sausage is above average. Greenbeans are probably from frozen, but prepared well with a little bacon, nice seasoning. Portions generous for the price. Counter service, plastic plates and glasses, plastic flatware comes out of an odd dispensing machine with a handle. Traditional Texas Barbeque "Farm Junk" decor on the walls. Seating at one long common table down the middle or at picnic tables on sides. Many awards and trophy's from local BBQ competitions hung on the walls -- and in the men's room. Rest rooms a bit on the grotty side. Dave's Smokehouse is connected to the adjoining Bay Area Meat Market & Deli. You can buy something raw out of their meat-case and Dave's will cook it to order for a buck. (Which is an excellent deal) and they do a good (but not superb) job with the steaks and chops. This place is a new go to for me!! Holy cow. The chicken fried steak Sammy was undeniably one of the BEST I've ever had, and it's one of my go to orders! Frito pie, OH MY! Though the sauce is a touch on the sweeter side, it accompanied the meat beautifully!! Service was prompt, helpful, and pleasant. As it was my first time, the clerk guided me to silverware and what was the best sellers. This place is a cute lil Mom and Pop shop. Very comfy cabin feel. Wooden picnic tables. Woodsy smell hits you the minute you walk in. Gets you ready for a treat to eat!!! I'll be back most definitely!!! It's just a sad thing that it's always Sunday or Monday I think about going! This place is part of Bay Area Meat Market. If you want you can go in the meat market, choose your steak and they'll take it to the kitchen. They have good steaks and a pulled pork sandwich to die for. They and T-Bone Tom's have the best chicken fried steak in the Clear Lake Area. I can't remember getting BBQ here (other than pulled pork sandwichs) so I don't know about that but since all the meat is good . . . The ambiance is country cookhouse. It's sort of dark and seems dingy. You "dine" on picnic tables. The walls are covered with an eclectic collection of old time memorabilia. Don't miss the Thompson Sub-Machine Gun, but you wouldn't have caught Al Capon eating here. If you're looking for Hemingway's "Clean, Well-Lighted Place" you may not want to come here. If I were rating the ambiance I'd give it two stars. They do a big BBQ take-out business. My guess is it's because people love the food but don't want to eat here. We eat here about once a month, sometimes more often. UPDATE 6/21/2016: Grab a sandwich or some barbecue and go across the street to Clear Lake Forrest park and have a picnic. We did that today. My significant other saw this place on the way to work so we decided to give it a try when we were craving BBQ. It is exceptional because it has an attached meat market where you can get fresh cuts and cheeses by the pound, so there is a guarantee that everything they serve is fresh. The atmosphere is very southern with large picnic tables for seating small and big parties, and the staff is extremely friendly. When they learned it was our first visit, they gave us our drinks for free! The menu was extensive, offering all types of meat and preparations as sandwiches and plates. The sandwiches require you to order sides a la carte, and they come in large portions (enough to split). The platters come with less meat but two sides. They also have daily specials that are definite bargains--today's was the pulled pork sandwich for $2.99! So you can each super cheap if you are up for trying something new. The food was awesome--everything had a fresh taste and was made well. The chopped brisket sandwich is huge and enough for two people to split!
