Still an incredible vintage Bakersfield experience. Met with some friends from out of town and we enjoyed the ambiance during our visit. This place hasn't changed since my parents took me there decades ago. The service was excellent. The food was tremendous. Now, don't go here on your lunch break. Took the food some time to come out but that's probably because it's made fresh to order. We can't wait to go back and try new offerings.

Popped in for lunch and this place is still yummy. This time I tried to Kung Pao chicken lunch special with hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup was so delicious that I bought a large size to take home with me for later. The service is always great here. It's attentive. The staff are good at bringing things out quickly. I went after the lunch crowd, so it was not as busy as they usually are. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is always on top of making sure the floors are clean and the tables are wiped down and ready for the next customer. The bathroom is always kept clean as well. This is starting to be my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. I highly recommend recommended. Enjoy!

A quaint spot that will satisfy your cravings for Chinese food. It's our first time here and their staff were so nice and welcoming. There's a handful of parking and the place looks clean and organized. We ordered the following: - A cup of wonton soup: warm, delicious and very light since I believe there was only one piece of wonton in the soup - A cup of egg drop soup: also delicious but missing a little bit of an oomph (possibly white pepper) - Walnut shrimp: this is the best walnut shrimp I've ever had. It's sweet, tangy but has a toasty taste to it that made it so different from others - Salt & Pepper Pork: this was crunchy, not oily and yummy - House Special Fried Rice: not so oily and everything mixed in together complemented well with each other from the rice, the meat to the veggies. So good! Highly recommend this place. We'll definitely be back!

Once upon a time they had delicious food. Unfortunately my favorite menu items are no longer the same! I truly hope they circle back and retrain from the original owners. It's no longer authentic and fresh. Just average

It's on 4th and Union But don't let that scare you off The staff was wonderful My tea was never empty The dining room is clean & comfortable The food is still amazing. Nothing was oily (way better than fast food Chinese) I went for a lunch with my sister Everything was tasty! Lots of variety of flavors. Can't wait to return for the dinner menu.

This Bakersfield gem is still holding up the standards of the previous owners. Our food and service were great. The hot tea was very fragrant , and the house fried rice seemed even better than before, with generous amounts of egg and meats. The Crispy Golden Scallops were very simple and succulent.

Ambiance-decor hasn't changed, however, maximizing seat seems lacking because there was a booth area in front area that was being used as a storage area instead of seating. Good use a small updating. Service-waiting list on a Sunday at 6:30pm while lots of open tables to be seen (7 areas). 3 waiters on the floor with one dedicated to cleaning up and setting tables. Promptly asked about drinks- served hot green tea Food- wow! Every dish was delicious. Ordered from pre-fix selection starting at $23.95 per person. I added beef fau (sic) chow. The wonton soup was very delicious with shrimp, chicken and small slices of beef. I put a smidge of hot mustard and Wowzer! Great!

It had been awhile since we last ate at Great Castle. It was the first time since the ownership changed. When I asked, they said much of the kitchen staff was the same. We ordered our usual Chinese (seems redundant) Chicken Salad with extra ginger and Kung Pao Chicken (no white onion). The server was happy to take my special orders. Great Castle is a fun place to eat. I love the Chinese decorations. It was close to their New Year and I love their decorations. The food was just as tasty as I remembered, maybe a little better. A higher quality chicken seems the most logical answer. The sauce on the Kung Pao is not very spicy, but it adds just enough flavor that, when mixed with the steamed rice, one gets that happy feeling inside. It's still a little pricey. If you haven't been to the Great Castle on Union Ave. yet, definitely check it out.

Something has happened to Great Castle Chinese Restaurant..... Customer service was very courteous and helpful. The food.....Over the top delicious. I don't remember it ever being as good as it was tonight. The Walnut Shrimp, Kung Pao chicken, and pork fried rice was incredible. Absolutely the best potstickers on the planet. Newly lighted dining area that really made their dishes aesthetically pleasing too. Good on you guys and thank you for a wonderful dining experience !!!

So the previous owner we all learn to love over the years retried and new owners took over. The restaurant looks the same. The service is still good. Food still comes fast. Big change is happening. Start with Mapo Tofu. They added in tingly spice and the authentic bean sauce from Pixian. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! The seasoning of the vegetables are much more aggressive, in a good way. The pork is the same, which is already great. The dry style beef chow fun was amazing! I'm definitely going back!

How does tipping look like here? Tipping is honestly horrendous nowadays.

Tip what your heart leads you to tip. I start at 20% and then deduct 5% for things like not keeping my beverage full or not checking up on our table. Luckily our last experience here was worthy of a 20% tip.

    Do they have delivery?

No, they are a dine-in only restaurant! Besides, you wouldn't want to miss the authentic dining experience by ordering delivery!

After sharing my story about my unfortunate life events friends are there to try to help me feel better. So catching up, laughing and bsn we had a great time. I ordered the rice bowl dinner and specifically told our server that I wanted the soft noodle chicken chow mein that comes with the meal. When my food arrived, it had crunchy noodles instead. I let the server know that this wasn't what I ordered. He seemed confused and told me to keep the plate and that he would bring me a side of chicken chow mein. Since everyone else's food was already at the table, I agreed. The problem is, he never brought it. By the time he returned, he was bringing takeout containers and the bill. I had to remind him that I was still waiting for my chow mein. A minute later, he came back with a small bowl of what appeared to be plain boiled noodles. When I explained that I had ordered chicken chow mein, he told me those were the noodles that go underneath the vegetables. At that point, I was done arguing about it. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn't much better. It was bland and lacked the flavor and quality I remember Rice Bowl having in the past. What disappointed me even more was the way my complaint was handled. I brought the issue to the owner's attention, and I felt my concerns were simply disregarded rather than taken seriously or addressed. Mistakes happen in restaurants, and I understand that, but how management responds to a customer when something goes wrong says a lot about the establishment. Rice Bowl has been a longtime Bakersfield restaurant, and I genuinely remember a time when both the food and service were much better. Based on this experience, it feels like the quality and customer service have declined significantly. We came here to celebrate my mother's birthday and left frustrated and disappointed. Unfortunately, after the poor service, bland food, incorrect order, and the way my complaint was handled by the owner, I will not be returning. I also would not consider hosting another family celebration or event here.

The place is like your standard Chinese takeout restaurant, where you have premade dishes, ready to be served with white rice, fried rice, or chow mein noodles. The menu has standard items such as orange chicken, general, chicken, chicken, teriyaki, honey, walnut, shrimp, honey, chicken, mushroom chicken, and so. They also offer egg rolls, cream, cheese, wontons, and soup. What stands out about this place is that they offer a catering menu, unlike some of the other homegrown Chinese takeout places. The restaurant itself is very clean although had a strong smell of Fabuloso and the tables in the floors were a bit sticky. They have one singular bathroom and it was clean. The person who took my order was very nice, friendly, and professional. She was very eager to give me a taste of the entrées in case I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat and I thought that was very cool. I purchased a bowl with half fried rice and half chow mein, and one entrée. For my entrée chose the honey shrimp. my meal came with a fountain drink so that was good. The entrée is $9.99 however, because I got the shrimp, it was a little bit extra. I wish I had gone when the IG people were there doing their reel... Because my food didn't taste anything like how they described it. The honey shrimp was very tasty and the shrimp was cooked perfectly however, every now and then I would get a huge puffy piece. I was not impressed with the fried rice nor the chow mein. I was expecting it to have a wok-seared flavor, like how it was described by the couple doing the reel on IG. For me, it was very plain, in fact, at one point, I thought the chow mein noodles were spaghetti noodles. While the meal satisfied my hunger, since it was dinner time, I likely will not be going back... Sorry, peeps I still have not found good Chinese food in Bakersfield. I hope you have a different experience, and if you do, enjoy!

I have food allergies, and they went out of their way to accommodate my dietary needs, which I greatly appreciated. It's not always easy to find a restaurant that takes allergies seriously, and their willingness to help made the entire dining experience stress-free and enjoyable. The food was fresh, flavorful, and generously prepared. The lemon chicken was a standout dish--the chicken was tender and crispy, coated in a bright, tangy lemon sauce that was perfectly balanced between sweet and citrusy. I also really enjoyed the chow mein, which was packed with flavor and had a great texture with perfectly cooked noodles and vegetables. The chicken and vegetables dish was another favorite, featuring tender chicken and fresh, crisp vegetables in a light, savory sauce that let the ingredients shine. It's pretty simple, basic furnishings, nothing fancy at all. It looks like it can use some upting inside. But I was more focused on trying the food because I had heard that it was good. The staff that took our order was kind. The food menu gave options of different combinations. We chose combination a for both of our meals. I ordered double charmaine and the steamed vegetables. The other order was chow, main rice and orange chicken. We found a table and had a seat. And when we got our food, the first thing we noticed, was when we opened the takeout box container to eat, was an odor of something being overcooked like a kind of charred smell. After taking our first bite, it was noticeably that the chomain had like a burnt smell and taste. I don't know if this is the way they normally cook.Their noodle, or if they had actually overcooked it, and just was serving it? I tried putting soy sauce on it to try to see if that made it better. It did not. The Orange Chicken was just okay. The vegetables were okay, but I basically threw the entire container in the trash after eating a few of the vegetables. I did not tell the attendant anything about the taste of the food or our experience. I was just too mentally exhausted that day to post a complaint and try to figure out what else I could order. So sad to say everything I had heard about this place was completely wrong. The food is not good at all.And I will never return. So my suggestion is, if you want fast Chinese food, there's a place up the street that is way better. And skip this, its obvious whoever is preparing the food isnt really concerned about quality or flavor.
