Lams is a long time restaurant. I ventured away from my usual and got chicken chow mein and fried shrimp. The shrimp were pretty greasy and the chicken had a rubbery texture. I usually get the sizzling rice soup... which sizzles for a long time! Like the name suggests :) I can't say anything about the service- we made a group takeout order. This is the first time visiting Lam's and I have to say it was pretty damn good. Everything from the orange chicken to the fried rice to the lo mein noodles was delicious. The egg rolls were good as well and if you feel like kicking it up a notch make sure to grab some chili sauce. The service was nice and friendly. The restaurant was nice a quiet, which was nice for a change. If you haven't been here, I'd definitely recommend coming to try it out. read more

We didn't need a full meal, but we needed something. It was one of those days where we had a late lunch. Now it was early evening. If we had a full meal, a good night's rest would be out of the question. We were near Bakersfield College and I remembered a little Chinese place my Dad took us some10-15 years ago. We stopped in. It didn't look like the place changed much. There was the enormous aquarium in the entry giving the place an interesting ambiance. The staff seated us quickly. Our server took our order - Honey Walnut Shrimp. It was the perfect portion we were looking for. The shrimp was tender and the honey and walnuts added a pleasant flavor. Came here after a long run on a weekend and we were immediately seated. All the food on their menu sounded really good and they have reasonably priced lunch and dinner plates. Meals come with soup, egg roll, fried rice, and noodles. I found my shrimp meal a bit dry but the rest of my companions' meals were really flavorful! And if they say spicy sauce, they mean it. Lam's has been solid for decades. It's been 10 years since we last got food there but everything was still very good. It's nice that you don't have to order the day before to get Peking duck. The take out was correct, ready on time. The people working there were very friendly. Please take note that the prices on the menu (in yelp and google) are waaay outdated (by 50% in some cases). Still we fed six for under $100-not bad. Peking duck-very flavorful-make sure to get extra sauce as it is a bit dry. Please understand that this review is generous. We had lunch today for about $125 for five people, we ordered family style off the menu. My daughter pulled 2 hairs out of her food, and I pulled a short black curved hair out of my food. I wanted this to be a nice meal, as my wife and I had our first date 45 years ago at a nice Chinese restaurant and realized that our teens had never been to a sit-down Chinese restaurant (their experience with Chinese food has been limited to Panda Express and China Bistro. I read the recent Yelp reviews that are overwhelmingly positive for this restaurant over the last 3 years, so drove across town to try it out. Long story short, only the egg rolls had flavor, not the soup, not the mushroom chicken, not the lemon cod, not the bell pepper beef, not the fried wontons, not the deep fried shrimp, not the lemon chicken, and the sweet and sour pork barely, had flavor. We ended up taking home 5 medium containers of food, which I am hoping we can kick up a notch in our wok...however my wife has declined to do so. As we entered the restaurant, an elderly man in his 80s told the cashier he had an amazing meal, other elderly patrons had the same comment when they paid. I am glad that for some the food is amazing, but it **truly** could not even come close to Panda Express. I've been going to Lam's ever since I moved to Bakersfield. This spot has the best authentic Chinese sit down food to date. If you want real stuff and not Panda Express or those standard to go places around the corner then this would be your destination. They have everything! Claypot dishes, noodle dishes, rice dishes, you name it. You can taste the "wok hay" from all of their food. One thing to note is you should finish all of your food right then and there because heating any of this up will not be as appetizing! I always love having crunchy house chow mein whenever I get Chinese. This is just the way to go. Always 10/10 as the noodles slowly softens, but make sure you finish it all as left overs as I've previously mentioned. Reheated soft noodles are not it! The beef clay pot was so savory! You can taste the generous mound of five spice they put in there. Always order a veggie dish such as stir fried green beans or eggplants to soften the heavy savory flavors. Hometown East side staple. Heard about it for years and somehow hadn't gone in. Boy am I glad Hubby and I did today. Old school family restaurant decor, plenty of space for diners. Ladies greeting and waiting on us were helpful, welcoming and kind. It was a cool afternoon, so I had to try the Congee available on the weekends. We opted for the Chicken. It was a dream. Smooth silky and creamy rice porridge. White meat chicken, with mushrooms, topped with some chopped green onions. Comfort food deliciousness. We shared some paper wrapped chicken. Little packets of tasty seasoned chicken. So good. Rounded out our meal with the Hot and spicy pork chops. Amazing. Delicate crisp exterior tossed in a salt and pepper spiced seasoning with green onions and what I think is a pepper oil. The pork and Congee alone are destination, crave worthy dishes. Lam's is probably one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Bakersfield. I have a few places that are on top of my list and this one is up there. I'm a fan of family style meals since I'm usually dining w family or friends. I love the idea of sharing different items so we know what to get next time. The place is a little outdated with a little bit of upgrades, but this place has been here a long while so it looks the same from many years ago. Any time we have dined in it has never been too busy, but I see quite a bit of people do phone/pick up orders. We are always seated pretty quickly and after we order our food it doesn't take long for them to get our food out. The staff is usually pretty nice, we've never had issues here. It seems like a family owned restaurant. My favorite item to order is either the wonton soup or the fried tofu w shrimp. We don't come here often since this place is not near our neighborhood, but we do like the food so we make our way out here sometimes. The parking area seems a little sketchy, so make sure to park close to the restaurant. There's lights, but not a lot of other businesses nearby. Parking has never been an issue since they have a good amount of parking and it's not usually too busy. read more

We decided to go have lunch there today it was really nice. I'd never been there before the restaurant wasn't busy at all when we arrived. I have to say the pricing is really reasonable we ordered 2 lunch deals and we were served immediately with our soup, then our meal came right after. I did get hot tea and that was really tasty nice and warm on a cold day outside. The place is clean, the mushroom chicken was less flavorful then what I expected, and the mushrooms are canned. The orange chicken was delicious and I loved it. We're excited to return to try some more things on the menu and I'm happy that it's not too far from where we live which is a plus for me. This is comfort food to me. It took me back to days when we lived in the LA area. Sundays after church, we make our way to Chinatown, next to downtown LA, having dimsum and yummy Chinese food at the local restaurant. The service here is always on point. Let me get one thing out of the way, there is a special section of the menu with authentic Chinese food that is the only thing I eat here. The other parts of the menu is hit or miss, so blame yourself if you order the wrong food and don't like it . I have eaten every single dish multiple times on the menu. They are old school Cantonese food that is made very well. Cantonese food is not spicy. If you are looking for spicy food don't go there. Otherwise everything is great. This was our first time trying this restaurant... a member from our church suggested here when we asked about a good Chinese food restaurant ( we moved here a little over 2 years ago) I ordered the house Lo mein, seafood lo mein, orange chicken plate and paper bag fried chicken. The lo mein both of them were decent. The paper bag fried chicken a few pieces tasted spoiled. ( but had decent flavor)The orange chicken was decent but the rice and chow mein was very dry. We may give this place another try because the staff was friendly and the low mein was decent. Hopefully our next visit will be better if we decide to give it another try. Ok I wasn't going to leave a post but the more I think about the angrier I get. The food is good hit and miss, the ambiance has improved from years past( I've been frequenting this place since I was in high school, I'm 64) . Today (3/13/26) was the worst treatment I've ever received. The waitress (short, dark hair, glasses, dark spots on her face) you may have seen her, very rude. Poor customer service Poor attitude, nasty demeanor, need I say more? I complained to manager on duty and he was very apologetic, it wasn't his fault home girl acted the way she did to me. I was siZZLING BUT KEPT MY COMPOSER and kept trying to discuss with her the issue, she continues cutting me off until my 19 year old granddaughter stepped in to advertise her that she was being very rude to her grandma and had a very bad attitude and that her whole demeanor was not cool. The waitress rolled her eyes which could have made the situation a lot worse had we continued with her but my granddaughter excused herself and left the restaurant. My daughter and I headed to the register where I asked to speak with the manager and didn't want to deal with her any longer. I also advised the manager that I never wanted her to be my waitress. This probably wouldn't have been as bad if she wasn't so nice and polite to the Caucasian customers a table away from us hmmm go figure.
