Incredibly relaxing and fun kayaking trip down river. Haven't done it in a while and now I remember why I loved kayaking in the first place! Our guides were laid back and had an eagle eye for the bits of wildlife. Saw some wild boar, a white egret and several turtles hanging out. My husband really wanted to see some otter (his favorite), but no dice there. All in all, I highly recommend it. Slather on the sunscreen. What an amazing experience! We have been to Myrtle Beach more times than I can count and had friends that did kayaking the last time they were down and figured we would give it a try. We had two adults and debated when we were booking online about doing a tandem kayak or two singles. My wife was pushing for two singles and I think based on the feedback from our guide that was the right way to go, as you have way more control. I'd recommend going that route if it's your first time. Other people that went the tandem route were really struggling. We did the marsh tour, which our guide said was the most challenging due to the length, which was right around 3 miles, and how much steering you had to do through narrow areas. My wife and I had never kayaked before and had no issues. If you are nervous about doing this, is sounds like doing a river is easier. The guides were both super nice, showed us the basics, and checked in with us the entire way to ensure we were doing good. The boats and paddles were also in great shape. As far as the tour itself, we did the sunset marsh tour and it was amazing. From a heat perspective, it was not very hot and there were basically no bugs. We also got to see lots of fish jumping out of the water and amazing birds. To cap it off the sun was setting towards the end and made for some amazing sights. Can't recommend this company enough and will for sure add this into all our Myrtle Beach trips moving forward and recommend to friends we have coming down. read more

First and foremost do not look at another kayaking place. Stop and book Great Escapes!! We are a family of 4 with kids 10 and 13 and booked 2 tandem kayaks for a 2 hour lazy river tour. Bridgette was amazing and very responsive to all our questions as newbie kayaking people. We could tell from the jump she loves what she does and the love showed! Freddie our guide was probably the coolest person I ever met. He was so knowledgeable of the river and we felt so comfortable as a family following his instructions and guidance. It was the best time we have had as a family in along time. You will not regret this place amd you will not forget the people. They love and care about service and it showed. We did the tour to Hog Island with Bubba. He was a great host and was knowledgeable as well as great to be around. I'm glad we did the tour instead of just renting the kayaks. There was more to navigating there then I would have thought. I would recommend this trip for anyone who likes to kayak and have a whole big beach to themselves. Very nice tour of the lazy Waccamaw River. A great escape from the beach. Recommend an early tour to avoid the heat of the day. Freddy was a great guide and Bridget and the staff were very friendly. There a bathroom at the kayak launch and they provide some drinking water. The river is beautiful and pristine. You'll see jumping fish, Cypress trees, sunning turtles. Plan for 3 hours and lots of paddling. Bring a camera and water tight case for pictures. read more

Sierra was wonderful. We thought we would like to kayak near Cherry Grove but Sierra suggested going to their other location north 15 minutes on route nine for a river kayak on the waccamaw river rather than near the ocean due to the outgoing tides at the time we wanted to go. The river kayak was such a great experience. I had never kayaked before and now am thinking of buying one for our family when we go back north What a great experience we had with our family The children enjoyed seeing the horses,dogs,goats and chickens at the end of the trip before getting a ride back to our car We definitely plan on coming back again next year!! Great Escapes will be on our family's "Must Do" list every year going forward for our beach vacation! This was the perfect outing. Sierra, Jillian, Bobby and Craig were amazing! We had a great trip. Our guide "bubba" was awesome. He knew a lot about the area. He made sure everyone was safe and had fun. The kids loved getting out of the kayaks to swim in the river. It was nice to see the natural landscape of the area as opposed to the built up beach area. This will be a new must do when we come to myrtle beach. read more

Great little trip. We took out 3 little ones and my in-laws and it was easy enough for all of us to paddle to the beach. The water at the beach was quite warm and fun to splash around in. The kids found a couple small hermit crabs and seen a skate swimming in the water. The guides were fun especially Bubba. They were informative and could answer any questions us tourist had about the local area. We would definitely recommend these guys. read more

We took the 2-hour marsh kayak excursion, starting at 10am. Wonderful! We highly recommend this company and would definitely use them again! N.G. (that's how her name is pronounced) & James were our trusty guides. They were friendly, knowledgable & relaxed. They brought complimentary water bottles and took pictures that they later post onto the company Facebook page. They also supply you with plastic waterproof bags if you need. Flip flops are fine (and nice, if you care to dunk your feet!), but leave the phone/camera behind... could not see the screen in the bright sunlight anyway) Sunscreen is a must and we're really glad we wore hats & sunglasses. Our tour was a bunch of laughs andI loved our guides, Josh and Ryan. They made our 2 hour tour feel a lot shorter. They also joined in on the random conversations that my brother, his friend, our cousin and myself while giving us very useful information. And on the tour they brought a cooler full of water, tea, and beer (for those old enough to consume alcoholic beverages). On our tour we explored a new part of the marsh because of being a bit a head of schedule and we found a beach umbrella way out there which was a home for crabs now, otherwise we would have brought it back.
