TOTAL SCAM! Avoid! They saw that i had great insurance and are trying to milk it as much as possible. I went in for a "deep cleaning" and they charged my insurance $900 and then i did a $260 out of pocket payment as the desk. I then received another bill for the same cleaning a month later for another $100 for a cleaning!!! Thats $360 out of pocket for a cleaning??!? Criminals!!! Im here part of the year from Florida where my dentist there i pay $50 out of pocket max for a cleaning and no surprise charges a month later! Another typical Michigan SCAM Medical Office!!! AVOID!! Our family has been going here for years! Always good care, after a deep cleaning years ago after I'd neglected my cleanings, they hardly have to scrape plaque at my 6 month cleanings (invest in the deep cleaning if you need it, go regularly if you can and do oral cancer screenings). Even when they couldn't do a cleaning because my blood pressure was too high, they sent me with the numbers and, after an emergency visit that day, I have a regular physician now that has my pressure under control for 4 years now. Sometimes a good dentist will lead you to get the 'other' care you need. I've also gotten crowns replaced, cavities filled for myself and kiddo, and staff is very kind. Also, we've gotten referrals to Great Expressions specialist offices for wisdom teeth (done), braces (didn't need) and for my grinding (cheaper to get mouth guards at them/dentist than the specialist). Overall good experience and I recommend this location on Mack in Grosse Pointe. read more

Great expression Grosse Pointe office is by far the best dental office I've ever gone to. Dr. Kaul approaches dentistry with a gentle painless touch, and is very personable. If you're afraid to go to the dentist, or looking for a new dental office, this is where you should go. Nothing but positive things to say. I got in right away at my scheduled appointment time. The dental assistant, dental hygienist, and dentist were all amazing- helpful, friendly, and professional. Also the dentist was a woman. I mention this because I've never had a female dentist and I was excited to have one! Front desk staff were also very nice. I would definitely not recommend this dental office! I went into the office to pay a bill and schedule an appointment since I would be a new patient to this office but have been previously seen by other Great Expression dentists and hygienists. While making the appointment I spoke with the office manager asking if I could be seen in that office since my Invisalign was started at a different office. The appointment was made and I received numerous text and email confirmation of the appointment. The day of the appointment came and I was asked to complete new patient paperwork because she did not have a scanned copy although all information was already in the system. After I completed the unnecessary paperwork I turned in the forms. I than heard the office manager talk with the staff and even heard her say she called the office I was seen in previously. Once I was seated in the dental chair the dentist came in to state she would not be able to help me and that I needed to go back to the previous office where treatment was started. I explained why I did not want to go back to that office she told me she would not be able to help. The overall experience was Great Expressions has not been favorable and I will only be going back for my Invisalign treatment and will seek any other dental needs at a different practice that truly cares for their patients. read more

I was very pleased with my first visit today at Great Expressions/Grosse Pointe. I had a cleaning and had x-Rays done. Let me start by saying that I have a hard time with the process of both, cleaning and teeth x-Rays, probably because I have a sensitive gag reflex. They had two assistants help get the X Rays. I think the girls' names were Keisha and Kasha. They worked together to get the job done and make sure I was comfortable. In addition, Jennifer was very helpful and answered all my questions regarding teeth whitening. I left with a smile on my face; happy that the visit was over, and thankful to the ladies at Great Expressions dental office. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Elizabeth Van at the Great Expressions Dental Center on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe. She performed an initial exam, during which I confirmed that I brush and floss daily. She asked if I ever experienced bleeding gums, and I reported that I do not. Nevertheless, she referred me to the Great Expressions Specialty Center on 12 Mile in Warren, MI for a 'deep cleaning,' an invasive procedure that involves scaling and planing below the gum line. Before the procedure, I was required to get clearance from my heart doctor because I have a heart condition, and it could be dangerous for me. I did. During my appointment at the Warren Specialty Center, I was examined by Dr. Rabbani and told the deep cleaning would cost $928 and be completed in two appointments. I was then informed by a staff member that my insurance wouldn't cover the work, and I was urged to apply for Care Credit. Believing that I needed the procedure, I agreed to complete the credit application while sitting in the chair. I also paid $300 with my debit card. The $628 balance was charged to Care Credit as soon as I was approved. After I napped in the chair for about 30 minutes, Dr. Rabbani returned, scraped and polished the surface of my teeth above the gum line in 20 minutes. She told me I would be scheduled for a follow-up appointment to check on the success of her work. What? When I questioned her about the cleaning, she assured me that she had completed a deep cleaning. I have had my teeth deep cleaned before; it's a painful process that required scraping (and caused bleeding) below the gum line and took place in multiple sessions. I have also had standard cleanings, which is exactly what she provided. My teeth were not scaled and planed below the gums. I know the difference between deep and standard cleaning, and I was charged $928 for a regular cleaning. I must expose Great Expressions Dental Centers and these dentists as I was definitely taken advantage of. During one call to the Grosse Pointe office, a staff member looked at my file and read aloud a notation that I had minimal tartar. She also insisted I had no recourse but to attempt to have Dr. Rabbani reverse/refund the charges. I did so to no avail. After persistent calls to GE, I was given a corporate office phone number to call with my complaint. Unfortunately, there appears to be no corporate office, only an unresponsive phone number at which I listened to a recording, left messages, held the line for long periods, and requested call backs. Despite placing over a dozen calls, I have received no response. I'm a senior on a fixed income, so scams like this are particularly hurtful, both financially and emotionally. I understand that my insurance coverages are not what they were when I was working, and I frequently have co-pays for medical procedures. However, to be charged (upfront) for a procedure that was not performed is straight out theft. What happened to me is complete fraud. Do not trust this corporate dental office. Go to an independent dentist with a credible reputation. Get a referral. Pay attention to the reviews! This has been so disheartening, especially because I recently returned to the Detroit area from Alabama where I received excellent medical and dental care. Welcome home. read more

All the horror stories you hear about unnecessary dental services and/or charges for services that were not actually done will become a reality if you decide to visit this place. Pushing unnecessary services as well as, the incompetence of the front desk staff is by far the worst dental office I've ever encountered. I will never return again. They push dangerous x-ray procedures without regard to the patients health or well-being and the charges are egregious and way out of line. The reality is... my current and previous insurance company was billed for the same services and they had the nerve to bill me for additional non-customary charges. Talk about double dipping in this case it was triple dipping. Please steer clear of this place by all means.
