Great store with a nice selection of firearms and accessories. They are very friendly and helpful and even have conceal and carry classes in the back classroom. We did our conceal and carry at this location and they are very informative and helpful. Prices are fair and they do have a nice selection of ammo and quite a bit of accessories too. If they dont have it they will also work to get it in for you. They will also offer advice and look things up for you. It is a family owned store and I love to shop at family owned stores in the area. They also know guns inside and out. Very disappointed in this location. I have done a lot of business with them over the years and up until now always treated good. I went in to actually sell them a rifle this time because I was upgrading. I had previously spoken to them on the phone and they said they would be interested. Upon my arrival the gentleman looked at it and I told him what I was looking to get out of it. He wasn't sure about the price and had some other people look at it. He came out and quoted me a price. He then got a phone call and I told him to go ahead and take the call It would give me a minute to think. The price he quoted me was a little lower than the price that I had in mind but I did think it was fair and was going to take it. He got off the phone and I told him that I would do price. He then changed his statement to that wasn't an offer it was what he would need to sell it for. That was not his original statement to me he said. He quoted me a price that he would buy for and never once said anything about that's what he would need to sell it for. That literally doesn't even make any sense. Why would I wait around your store for 30 minutes while you're checking into it to hear what you would need to sell it for. Integrity sir you might want to look it up. While you still work there I will never do business with your location and I will do my very best to spread word not to do business with great guns. You just lost a customer that has bought in excess of 40 guns from you. read more

Great guns is a true gun shop!! I hate seeing all these negative reviews. Folks this is a gun shop. They know what they are talking about and they know their shit!! I was looking for a Ruger LCP for my wife with a Crimson trace laser sight. They did not have an LCP with the laser sight. I told them what I saw at a gun show and they ended up installing the crimson trace on the LCP they had AND gave me the same price I saw at the gun show. So all you retail shoppers continue shopping at Wal mart and Academy, I will stick with Great Guns! I wanna deal with experts!! You get what you pay for!! read more

I have made quite a few purchases from this place and have always had a pretty good experience. Today however it seemed as though the staff was really quite disengaged with there customers. I was there to purchase ammo and to inquire about a concealed carry handgun. The sales person appeared to be less than interested in my attempt to extract any knowledge about the selection that I was interested in. Not outwardly rude but certainly on the borderline. Essentially said we carry this brand and this brand...you figure it out. Okay no problem. I am pretty knowledgeable about weaponry and what I was shopping for. I was just curious about what he might have to say about it. So I walked away from a 6 or 7 hundred dollar purchase purely due to attitude. Every time I'm in here they act like they are above everyone else. The guys behind the counter bitch about each other for selling guns from the counter, instead of getting them from the back in front of customers. I asked about ordering a gun and told the "husky" guy sitting at the computer what kind, without even looking he said there was none out there! but other stores I've looked at have them in stock. I have never felt the need to shop anywhere else for firearms, ammunition, or accessories because this shop meets all of my needs. The people who work there are friendly, knowledgeable, & willing to take the time to see that you get the answers, or products, that you need. I took my Conceal-Carry course through Great Guns and it was top notch. There was an instructor, who works at the store, as well as a lawyer who specializes in legal issues & policies related to firearms. It was both educational & fun. BELOW reasonably priced firearms,extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff (which is very rare around here), I noticed that everyone was treated the same from veterans who've been shooting for years to a youngamn looking to make his first purchase and a woman. First off, I want to say that I am a high school student so he probably realized I was most likely not going to throw cash on the counter. That being said, I had a senior sweat shirt on, meaning I was probably either 17 or 18. In my opinion, those ages are either a soon to be potential customer or potential customer already, so they should be treated with due respect. When I went in, I stood at the counter for ten minutes before being approached by the employee who was reading a magazine right behind the display case. When he eventually came up to me, he was really hard to work with, and seemed to not really care about my business. After spending five minutes helping me and showing me two guns, he told me "One second, sir." and went to help another customer. I expected him to merely check in with the other man and come back. Instead, he walked over and spent at least fifteen minutes with him before I decided to leave. I wasn't even checked back in with during those fifteen minutes. Although I am a high school student, I feel like the way he treated a potential customer was completely unprofessional. He has insured that Great Guns will never have my, or my family's, business. read more

I've been going to Great Gun since it was in Kearney and have watched them grow. They have become progressively harder to deal with. I have also made it a point to buy guns from them versus Cabella's or Bass Pro to "help support the little guy." Today was the final straw, I called there to ask how much it was for a transfer fee for a firearm for a law enforcement officer and they said "$50," then hung up. The small town shop has grown up to be a bunch of arrogant "like it or lump it" sales people. read more

My wife and I visited Great Guns for the first time to inquire about a firearm for personal protection that my wife would feel comfortable with. We were greeted by the owner who is a woman and she took my wife and led her through the process of choosing the proper weapon for personal defense. As she was taken care of I was asked by several other employees if they could help me and so I then became interested in buying a firearm. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend that whether you are a novice or a professional go to Great Guns for any of your hunting or firearm needs. Everybody in the gun community agrees that people selling firearms need to be honest and above board; if not, they should sell "used cars" instead. My experience with Great Guns was not pleasant. I wanted to buy an expensive rifle from Great Guns, but they made a mistake, which would have cost me $48 more. Great Guns would not admit to the mistake, publicly made several disparaging comments about me, and cancelled the deal before the rifle was transferred. Moreover, Great Guns refused to refund the full amount to my credit card claiming ridiculous expenses. I actually had to formally submit a case to my credit card company and dispute the charge, which was ruled in my favor. I later bought the same rifle from another store for $162 less, plus I received 5% back from my credit card company, because the store sold home-improvement equipment and supplies. If you want to be treated fairly and honestly, stay away from Great Guns. Don't buy any "used cars" from them either. read more

Not a great experience. I've been in several times and have spent good money in the store on guns and accessories. I took my wife in on Saturday afternoon for the first time, not realizing that it was getting near closing time. Instead of asking if there was something that he could help us with before they closed, the guy behind the counter just shut the lights off and gave us a dirty look. This was my first and last visit to great guns. I was looking for a recoil pad for my gun, the gentleman that helped me seemed helpful and nice enough. I found what I needed. My husband went to the gun counter to check out their new guns, he's been interested in buying a new over under and selling his semi-automatic, the young man behind the counter was friendly. However, when we had come into contact with the "owner" she was very rude and condescending. It was very disheartening. I have never felt like I did not belong in a gun store until today. My husband probably would've bought the new gun from here, however because the owner low balled him so low, and refused to speak to us directly even though we were standing right next to her, we decided our money would be better spent elsewhere. After this interaction we decided to leave. At the checkout counter to buy my pad, a young man said he would ring me up. The lady behind the counter yelled at me, "THAT REGISTER I CLOSED!" She again, very rude, and impatient, she slammed my receipt on the counter. I was so ready to get out of that store so bad. After leaving, I was mad at myself for purchasing ANYTHING from them. Wow! Great Guns always has a good selection, and fair prices. But do not have a firearm transferred to them. Their transfer fee is higher than anyone else's in the area. Show Me Shooters charges $40, still high; and The Armory in Kearney charges $30, which is still high as well. Great Guns charged $50, and after I told them they were considerably hire than others, I was told that they price competitively with everyone else. I was forced into doing business with them because the company I purchased the pistol from automatically sent it to Great Guns because it is closest to my address. After I told them that I did not want the gun transferred there because it cost $50 to do so, they to said that was an outrageous price for a transfer fee. Then the company said they charge no more than $20 to receive a transfer, and anything else is a rip off. What was a good deal on a gun turned into almost overpaying for it in the end. Because of this experience I will no longer buy firearms from gun shops, only personal sales for this guy from here on out. I gave Great Guns a 3 star rating because of this experience, and I certainly do not appreciate being lied to. read more
