Not once, not twice, but three times Denise and the folks at Great Lakes Carpet & Tile have absolutely delivered on all of their commitments to us. My wife and I first wandered into this store looking for flooring for the 2 bedrooms in our rental home. It definitely was a great stop for us. We did not buy floors really, we just had so much faith in Denise after speaking with her, we could not go anywhere else. Her knowledge of flooring, installation practices, the different homes in and around the Villages, etc., was impressive, and above all else, true and honest. Behind Denise is a fantastic company who installed those 2 bedrooms, 3 more at our home, and now 4 more at another property we own. Each time the care and quality workmanship provided surpasses expectation. Do Not Buy carpet from this company! Sales will misinform you, complaint was handled with year long run-around and rude staff. In addition, they don't stand by thier products or warranty. It took his team and a third party carpet analysts two plus years to FINALLY conclude that the carpet (Mohawk) had a manufacturer defect. Did I mention that they once came to my house to evaluate my complaints? The "manager" spent about a half an hour confirming the specific flaws in the installation. Then he said (I am not making this up) that he couldn't fix it because he wouldn't get paid. Somebody else would call. My wife and I stopped at the Leesburg store and welcomed by Wendy. Wendy's personality and professional attitude were wonderful. We felt no pressure looking at Area Rugs. It got closer to closing time and Wendy suggested to take home the 3 rugs we were interested in. She said it's helpful to view during daylight and at night in a room. We had a bit of sticker shock with prices. Wendy didn't oversell, was empathetic, and talked about the industry and quality of each rug. She stayed more than 40 minutes after closing and wrapped the rugs up to load into our vehicle. Her service guys had already left for the day. I called the next day to see if she would be in to talk and drop off the rugs. She answered and said we should talk to Amy. I asked if she was on commission. Wendy assured us it was ok to talk to Amy. We went to the store and Amy was just as wonderful as Wendy. Both were there, gave us ideas and were very nice. They treated us like family. I actually felt like I was an employee being taken care of that well. Both Wendy and Amy work well together in sales. I no longer work, but being in sales myself, this was refreshing to see. As far as store cleanliness and presentation, Great Lakes deserves an A+ and should be commended and written up in Local and Northern Florida Magazines for appearance and style. My wife and I visited the Wildwood store since. That store is amazing as well, with a beautiful selection. The Salespeople there were helpful sharing what Great Lakes stands for, tradition and value. We received emails of samples to choose from as well, and the option to take home to view. We are so happy Great Lakes Carpet & Tile looks at their customers with the focus on making us feel at home when in their stores. Refused to honor their on-line $500 coupon to be presented at time of purchase. Their reason was that they gave me their best deal! They knew they were one of several dealers giving estimates, of course they would have given me their best deal. My experience was so good with Great Lakes Carpet and Sales Associate Nick Dolinsky, buying carpet for three bedrooms and having it installed that I rate them a Six Star. Anyone needing new carpet will do themselves a disservice should you not contact Nick at the Wildwood store, telephone 3526890210. The degree of courtesy, professionalism and sincere customer interest exceeded my expectations. The installation team completed three bedrooms in five hours having to move a lot of heavy furniture and then replacing it without a scratch on the house or furniture. Thanks Nick, you were great!!! Follow-up: We discovered a serious issue today with the measuring/installation of our shutters. Evidently, the measuring person didn't take into account that our windows are designed to open to the inside of our house (the bottom pane) for easy cleaning and also the window screens can only be removed from the inside of the house. The frames of the shutters installed by Great Lakes do not provide clearance for either to occur. So we cannot clean the bottom pane of our windows and if we ever need to replace the screens, we will have to remove the shutters. This is wholly unacceptable. In talking with our neighbors, Budget Blinds understands that and has made accommodations when measuring other homes in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, we took a pricier route with Great Lakes/Hunter Douglas and got screwed on service as well as finished product. Very Very Unhappy. Furniture removed in bdrm. #1 quality rug put down, furniture put back, and seam was VISIBLE.! Removed all furniture, turned rug to fix seam, put back all furniture. Stay away! They sell you expensive stain master carpets and ignore you when you have problems.

Looking to replace a very large amount of carpet. To be honest, I have not had a lot of positive interactions at the 4 places I have shopped so far. Saw this store near a big box store I decided to check out, and stopped. Sales person came immediately and began to tell me the many positive attributes of the carpet samples nearest the door. Didn't see any color or look in those and began to slowly move down the exhibits. I came to 2 before long that looked like possibilities. I asked the price, and was given a S.F. price. I nodded and took out my note pad. I began to ask a few questions, first said, so, at $5 a S.F., we're talking about $45 a square yard then. I was really startled that not only did he say "yes" , "right", but actually visibly recoiled. Not a hint of a smile, and in a very "in charge" voice said, "WE sell by the square foot, I GAVE you the price". Pretty startled at the tone since we had never met or had any negative dealing prior, I got a bit wide eyed and (didn't need to of course but said) "Oh, I'm so sorry, just doing the math in my head, 5X9=45. NO reply and obvious it was not appreciated that I figured out the square yard price to help ME. Not sure why, it's not like it is a secret how many S.F. are in a S. yard !! So when I saw 2 or 3 I liked, I turned to him again and said "I like this one very much, now, what, if anything is ADDED to this price ?" Told installation, pad, all included. I asked about prices of padding. "ALL INCLUDED" I was told with a louder voice this time. Asked if different types and qualities of padding was available. "Doesn't matter, it's included". Ok, that's good I said, may I see the various pads ? Told, "WHAT one ?" At that point I was really getting confused. Tried my question in another way, "what is the rating on the pad ?". He looked very confused, its 6# or 8#. "Is there any difference in the price ?" "No, I was told." At this point I was hesitant to ask for any additional information, but ventured forth. When I asked for an example to price out various additional services, such as rooms which would need the furniture moved, compared to two rooms which are empty and have had the old carpet and pad hauled away. THAT did not go over well at all. "WE don't price things that way". "Oh, I see, ok, well, thank you very much, I am interested in these two (pointing) especially, but, it's difficult for me to determine my budget and price when we can't break down what I actually need. No offer to sit with me, let me explain I needed approximately 80 square yards for an area which did not need extra hours of labor to move furniture, cut up old carpet and pad, haul it all out, etc. and "possibly" I would need that in one 17X19 bedroom with one bed, one TV, no chests, dressers, etc. but would need old carpet taken out. "No difference" I was told. I would like to add that I have been consistently running into this very "vague" and even RELUCTANT way of breaking down pricing. It's really hard to tell how much you are buying, what you are paying, and exactly what you are paying FOR ? This is not the only place that behaves like this. No one has been able to explain to me what I might be paying for labor for "furniture moving" so I can decide if I want to empty the one room with a bed and table myself. Even the big box stores told me, it's all included rather you have furniture in the room or not, rather the old carpet is still there or if you've ripped it all out, all the same price". That just seems very odd to me. Where I have lived previously, carpet was priced, basic installation ran about $2.50 to $3.00, you picked out padding which could be as low as $.79 to upwards of $1.49 a S.F., and, if you wanted to hire additional time to have them come and move furniture, it was so much per hour for 5 pieces ! So, this was not the only place that almost seemed to make spitting out the actual price a secret game, but it was by FAR the most rude place I have shopped. Avoid this place like the plague! Had flooring installed on Jan 2nd (writing this on the 19th) and it's still not completed! Was told the day of the installation that they couldn't complete the job because the transitions they brought were broken. (Had they mentioned this before they started I would have postponed the installation until they were in stock) As it is, it's now going on three weeks and the house is still a mess. Every time I talk with them, they're going to have the pieces over nighted and will have them soon. The last time I called the salesman James, he said he'd call me back in an hour or two. That was FOUR days ago and I still haven't heard from him!!!! So I sit here with a dirty house, pieces of stiff throw carpets across each entryway so my porcelain won't crack, (which I had to go out and purchase) and waiting for word from Great Lakes Carpet & Tile. Can't say much for a company that can't get pieces of transitions within a reasonable time period, or who tells you they'll get back to you in an hour or two and never calls. 18 days and counting on a job that's supposed to be easily completed in a day. Frank came today to add insult to injury. He brought back a box of tile the installers took (1 of 2). The story - our realtor said "oh have the tile installed after the settlement, probably about $3000 to replace dining/living room carpet, so then we called the company that did the initial install Great Lakes Carpet, WILDWOOD, FL - Frank came gave my wife a $3999 +$700 +$250 estimate - she wanted - we signed. I said seemed high based on what my realtor said. He said "who was your realtor" writing down my response - I hope I did not get my realtor in trouble - the realtor Todd was GREAT) check, let me know - I found the same tile for 2.75 - his estimate was 3.75 + 3.75 to install - he estimated 540 square feet, I measured 470 square feet. I sent him the confirming listing He said nothing!!! They came to install - they did a great job installing - I saw them taking 2 boxes after all the tile was laid (18 square feet each) AFTER all the tile was installed. My wife called and Frank said NO they had not taken tile. He offered to get a box at HIS COST $22 (meaning about $1.50 a square foot. We said no thanks So if installation normally is about the cost of tile per square foot - honest win-win cost would be supposing a 60% markup (doesn't every retail wish they could get that) $2.40/sq ft and install $2.40/sq ft so $4.80/sq ft installed which means for 540 sq ft would have been $2592 plus the ($500 "special padding") - okay so $3192. NOT the nearly $4900 he charged us. I am posting this because he actually returned one of the stolen boxes of tile tonight saying he heard we were short - compare all prices before you ever buy from these people. I did ask my realtor about the high price who referred me to ROLAND who he said did a similar job for $3000 for another the villages resident - long and short - their installers were very good - great job, their salesperson was taking advantage of new residents - be ware. read more
