We've been customers for over 10 years. The quality of their beef began going down during 2020 Covid shutdowns. But we continued purchasing bacon and some frozen items. We liked their frozen tilapia fillets. The last time we bought them they were mislabeled. Instead of coconut we got something flavored with garlic. We drive 20 miles or 40 miles round trip to buy from them. No more! read more

Fantastic butcher shop off the beaten path in howell. Freshly prepared meats, in addition to packaged items that are reasonably priced (you're getting quality). We just happened to be driving by and saw the "custom meats" sign. Why not stop long enough to have a look? The maple syrup sign in the window made me hopeful. That's on our shopping list. But it turns out that the cute little maple syrup bottles were not going to be enough for us. So we'll wait until we can get a gallon or half gallon from a farmer's market. This seems to be a grilling superstore. It's certainly a lot bigger than it looks from the road. Plenty of rubs and bulk spices. If you want to grind meat and make your own sausage, they have the supplies. I saw knives, grill tools, cookbooks and fresh, smoked and frozen meats. Hubby pointed out that the frog legs are farm raised in China. I get the grass fed beef liver from the health food store, so I wasn't very interested in the frozen liver. The prices are very nice for the bulk herbs and spices. I grabbed a few bags because I was running low. read more

Large selection of fresh and custom cuts of meat. Huge spice selection of seasonings and spices for many different types of cooking. Nice selection of special mustards, balsamic vinegars, and seasoned oils. A bit out from the hustle of the city, but well worth the trip if you need something special! read more

Sign says "smoked meats" ... but No Jerky ever in stock inquired with cashier on multiple occasions "when do you think you will have more ? Do you post online when it's back in stock" Always the same unhelpful answer , "I have no idea, he will have to make more" All you have to do is try a little.. you could have even lied and told me something at least ! read more

Took a road kill there about a year ago. Took a second road kill there and just picked it up. Got it home opened the box. One of the summer sausage vacuum seal did not take and it's freezer burned. Started to take the meat out and none of it is labeled! The ground meat is not flat it's just cramped in a bag and frozen. When I called to say there was a problem they offered for me to go all the way back and they would label it. I won't be back!!!!! read more

I love this place great meat would to tell everyone that this is the place to buy your meats

Severely over priced. I get twice the quality at half the cost from numerous butcher shops. Not worth the trip. I also overheard them giving a customer bad advice on rubs with sugar. Customer stated he was using a full hog wood log smoker with a temp fluctuation of 200 - 425. They insisted on sugar. Sugar burns and turns very bitter at 350. Probably ruined that persons pig roast event. read more

Food is good, but they doubled and tripled prices and blamed Coronavirus. My family and I used to be long time customers, won't go to the store anymore as we can't trust them. They lost a lot of business with their little tricks - I hope it was worth it. Good luck! read more

I have driven past this store hundreds of times since they opened. I stopped in once when they first opened, but never went back. Well, today I needed butcher's twine, so I thought they might have it. I walked in and a man was at a counter writing in some sort of book. Number one, he would not acknowledge me. Number two, he continued writing until he was finished. Number three, after I waited for him, no apology for making me watch him do his work. Number four, when I politely asked him if they had butcher's twine, he replied, "No." Nothing like, I'm sorry, thanks for stopping in, feel free to look around we have a great deal on so and so, etc. Will not be back. And btw - the dirt parking lot has gigantic holes and also does not make it safe pulling out onto M-59. read more

We order bulk meats from here every few months. Great tasting selection of meat, pork and poultry. Love their bulk spices too!

This is the first time using this processor. Clean building, friendly staff BUT the meat processing of our beef, we were not happy! Vacuum sealing did not hold on about 8 packs of the meat, we used that first of course. Meat was not fully frozen when we picked up, although they called and said it was ready. We asked for 4 pound roasts and got 8 pound roasts, round steaks were the size of a platter! Sizing was for a family of 8 at least. When we complained about it they offered to repackage it if we brought it back. Bringing back a 1/2 steer was not practical. We will not be going back. Going back to our previous processor even though twice as far away. We took 3 steers here for processing at the same time. All our customers had the same complaint :( read more

Some of the most unfriendly stiffs working behind the meat counter. Very short and abrupt if they speak to you at all. I love their products but absolutely hate dealing with the butchers or attempting to ask a question. It's as if I'm bothering them. read more

If I could skip it they would not even get one I took my deer there to be processed waited at least 3 weeks for it to be done put it immediately into freezer but when I took it out to cook it smelled spoiled horribly spoiled thought maybe just that pack so took another out and that was even worse took the meat back to the store and they gave me my processing fee back and offered some other venison they had now why would I want more meat from there I feel like they should have refunded me what it would cost for that much meat because that was going to help my family through the winter now we don't have it when I took the deer in they have you just lay it on a pallet with a bunch of other deer I will never go there again read more

I have taken deer there for processing in 2018 and this year 2019. I got my meat back the way I asked to have it cut both times, but one of the things they offer is to have bacon ground up with your burger. I had always gotten my venison ground straight with no pork because It tastes better without pork. But bacon burger is tasty, and when I saw it was an option I was all in for that. In 2018 when I picked up my venison after getting a call it was ready, I got it home, opened the box to put it in the freezer and every package of burger was marked as ground with pork. Called Great Lakes to ask about it and they said they were out of bacon so added pork instead. I told them I didn't want pork in it and that they should have called me to ask if I wanted pork before making the decision themselves. They apologized. This year same thing. No bacon and ground pork in my burger. Why even offer bacon as an option if you aren't going to have it! My stepson took a deer there for processing in November and asked for his back straps to be cut in half and wrapped whole and the rest of the deer to be ground into burger. He picked up his meat, got it home and opened up the box to find that his back straps had been cut into medallions instead of cut in half wrapped, and he also has a lot of packages with a considerable amount of hair in them. Not a very appetizing sight to say the least. We are both done taking our deer to Great Lakes for processing. read more
