They notice that a GFI (Ground Fault Circuit) plug was tripped. They flicked the switch and and the hot water heater fired up. They left in less than 15 minutes. I know there is a typical charge for a service call, but as I said I expected it to be fair. Unema sent an invoice for $135.00, which I believed to be an error. Before I called Unema, I check with a couple other local plumbers whose rates were less an $100.00. I called and asked if their rate was reasonable considering no real work was done. I was transferred to Scott who said, "that's the rate." Needless to say, I'll never use them again.

I had such a great experience with Great Lakes Plumbing! Mark was such a pleasure to work with as he organized an appointment for us. I had a week before the job needed to get done, but the next business day he already had someone on the way. I even got texted a photo of the person who would be coming by so I could verify before I let someone in my house. We had countertops out in with a new sink but those guys didn't want to hook up the sink to the drain or water supply. We could have done it ourselves but it would have taken all day plus numerous trips to the store. We have a large family so the kitchen sink is very important! We have used great lakes plumbing for several projects and recently to replumb our entire home. Yes, the entire home had failing polybutylane pipe and was springing leaks. We have never had issues with any work they have done. They are staffed with master plumbers and know their stuff. Hard to deal one on one with a plumber 350 miles away but Mark at Great Lakes Plumbing Services made it easy with our restoration project on our summer home damaged by a fallen tree. Our water heater gave out on a Sunday, spewing water, and the shut off valve would not shut off the water supply. We could not reach our regular plumber and called Great Lakes Plumbing. Someone was out to the house within 45 minutes to make it so that we could at least use water in other areas of the house. Then, they were back on Monday to replace the water heater. I noticed you used isolation couplings on both the incomming and outgoing pipes which were not there before. You used all new vent pipe and added foam insulation where ever possible. He was actually on his way home to take his wife out for her birthday, and made a stop to help me! That says a lot right there! He saw the pipe and said "no problem I can have it fixed in just a few minutes". It was only about 10 minutes and he was done!!! I was also very happy with the final price. It was much cheaper than I thought it would be, so no Ramen for me! Yuck! Lol!! I will use this company again. I already know I have other plumbing things that need to be fixed and Budget Plumbing is who I will be calling.

The pricing isn't by hourly, but by a software they use to find the best rates for the job required. Ultimately, I've voiced my concerns of how that system works and what I think could change but they are sticking with the way the price structure works, as it works for them. I am happy with the solution that was offered to me, and would use this company again, but more so for serious issues that require an expert to come out. When booking the appointment, it was explained to me that it was $85 to have the team come out, and an additional $125 for diagnostic of the situation of my leaky pipe, which could be used towards the maintenance cost. The determination made by the technician is that the pack nuts needed to be screwed tighter, and it took the technician less than 2 minutes to do so. For this labor, I was charged $220, and the charge is not itemized, it is just marked as misc. - and I had no option to just tighten it myself, as it already cost me $125 for the technician to diagnose the issue. Since I was charged $220 for 2-3 minutes of labor, that's about $6600 per hour that they charge. If we did just the $95 on top of the diagnostic, that's $2,850 per hour for their labor. I understand they are a business and I am not saying I expected the work to be free, but for the fact it was an additional $95 for him to tighten the pack nuts in 2-3 minutes is crazy. I asked about why it costs so much / the charge couldn't be a flat $125 since it was a simple solution, the technician told me it was a liability if he didn't charge me for his work, and since he had to screw TWO pack nuts, that's where the extra charge came in. If you go through this company, just expect a labor cost of $47.50 per minute.

Two hours…read morelater, the kitchen plumbing was found to be gushing, so I ran downstairs to find the ceiling of my sewing/craft/costume/evening gown/guest room was collapsing with gallons of water pouring out onto a large room of precious objects, ruining walls and brand new carpet. So began a horrible year of having both my kitchen and guest/sewing room being reconstructed. Meanwhile, racks of clothing and shelves of patterns, material, bed, pictures on the wall, and racks of thread were soaked. He blamed a faulty washer, but never showed it to me. I had to cancel my brother and his family visiting for Thanksgiving - after I had bought hundreds of dollars of food - my brother who I had not seen in a long time. A couple of months into restoration, the kitchen plumbing started to leak again, the day before I was to leave for a 2 week vacation. The pipes now make a bloop sound every half hour, or so. He claimed not to hear it, but his employees heard it. He's a slimy liar. When he called a few years later wanting to check and service the system, I put him off because I can't trust him. I live in constant fear that the whole thing is going to explode again. If I hadn't been there and wanted to show the contraption under the kitchen sink, it would've ruined the entire condo instead of a third of it - therefore, going away is fraught with fear of what might be happening in my home. He did not show sympathy, just slimy excuses, leaving me with a years-long horror show.
