BUT, be prepared. If you're paying by credit or debit card, their processing system prompts you to tip. Right there on the company iPad, that's handed to you by the guys who just fixed your expensive af water issue. Can't remember if it was 10% 15% 20%...or 15% 20% 25%. What I do remember is how freaking awkward it felt. When I go out to eat, get my hair done, or grab a coffee...I know these things are a part of an industry that relies on tips. When I have service guys over to my house (new homeowner, so it's more common than I'd like) I often cash tip a $20 or more depending on the work and time. But to be asked to tip 20% on $500 or $1000 dollars unexpectedly--do that math. Ugh. The guys were great and their work was solid. It's not on them for a crappy ending to the service call. If Great Lakes would have mentioned their tipping expectation in advance, like when I scheduled or when they sent a confirmation, it would have been a better experience. Guys were on time and thorough in their work in clearing the drain for our washing machine. They helped me reconnect the washer and dryer and moved them both back into place (I had been working on them prior to their call) when the drain work was done. After they left we ran a load of laundry and the washer threw an 'HF' code about half way through the cycle. YouTube University diagnosed it as a bad part (the machines are 13 years old) so I got ready to order a part to repair it. Kept thinking I had messed something up while tinkering with the unit prior to their service call, but it had run AFTER I had worked on it (originally thought it was leaking) when we discovered the drain clog. Just before I ordered the part I suspected was the issue, checked and discovered the hot water line was still turned off. Problem solved! We were all so focused on putting everything back together, and in place, we forgot to flip the hot water back on. Couldn't ding they guys a star for that as it was a good 'learning' experience for me! read more

Great Lakes Plumbing installed a sink with a drain. Their drain parts. The drain pipe was leaking very slowly probably since they installed it n it finally became disengaged from the sink pipe. My sink overflowed and caused damage to my basement ceiling. I have NO desire to even call them to fix it since they are the ones who caused the issue. Shorty work. Would never recommend to anyone. read more

Please don't waste your time scrolling further looking for a plumber! I had a toilet and sump system issue in the basement last night, and called them this morning. Their schedule was full, but I was in line for next available. 1 hour later I got the text they were on the way, and an hour after that the whole thing was done!! They were able to give me a quote in less then 24 hours by sending an email with pictures and a brief description. No site visit needed! We weren't sure how the sewage smell was coming into the house... I got a call the day before from the guy (Rodney) who was scheduled for the next day. He just wanted to have a feel for what was going on. The next day he was digging in sewage and replacing pumps all the while being so great. He brought drop cloths and kept my house perfectly clean. Rodney was absolutely amazing! He knew exactly what to do. Then, did it quickly, efficiently and most importnatly gave me the information so that the problem wouldn't happen again. I had a difficult problem with new tub faucets and a leaky sink faucet that were difficult due to their 'decorator' design features. Matt Van Laar is just amazing and very talented beyond belief!!! He seems to have EVERYTHING in his truck and so can respond to the need for the most bizarre little part without having to order it. I would highly recommend. After calling and asking for a ballpark quote I was given a quote of around $300. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised to only have to forkout the best part of $200 found the guys be very honest. Wow. Coming home from vacation to an out of commission tankless water heater, that was under warranty though the company had gone out of business 3 years ago, was brutal! The team at Great Lakes Plumbing promptly saved us. Laura, while out of the office, ensured we got in contact with the right folks the same day, even though their schedule was packed. Mark ensured his "tankless experts" were the ones to take a look at our current unit. Matt provided us with several options: (1) after fixing the internal leak wait for the unit to dry out and see if the error code self-corrects; (2) order parts online to see if that corrects the error code (no tech support available for troubleshooting because the brand was out of business); (3) install a new tankless heater next day. We chose option 3 for reliability. Once again, we were squeezed into the busy schedule and Mark completed a prompt and very professional install. We had our master bath totally redone. At some point. I had Mark, Rodney, or Matt, or all 3 working on our project. I love all 3 of these guys. They are prompt, fast, have great suggestions, and deliver what they promise. (Fyi:Rodney loved our pit bull and she loved him.) I no longer will be looking for a plumber when I need one. I needed to have a washer connection, and they told me that they charge $100.00 for an extimate which would be deducted from the total bill. I agreed. He came to estimate and told me I needed to have pipes removed and replaced with pvc. The estimate was $700.00! I said no too much, but he still charged $100.00! What a rip off! Estimates are part of the cost of doing business. (I got the washer hooked up for$400.00. Stay away from these guys! read more

I had a great experience with Great Lakes Plumbing (as great as plumbing experiences can go). I waited a while to write my review (the work was done in January) so I could be sure that the problems were truly fixed. We had 3 issues that we wanted to have addressed. We wanted a gas line run to switch out our electric dryer for gas, we had a leaking washer hook up in the laundry room and we had a leaky connection at the meter in the basement. I worked with Mark on scheduling. Mark was really good about promptly responding to my website inquiry. He quoted a fair price and explained some options and variables. He also sent me a text the morning that the plumber was to arrive letting me know who they were sending. The plumber was prompt and efficient. I had reached out to several local plumbers (as I'm a new homeowner in Grand Haven) and I'm pleased that I opted to hire Great Lakes Plumbing. Paying my invoice was really easy, and I was provided with an immediate receipt. I own a couple of rental properties in addition to my main home, so I've dealt with many plumbers over the years. I was really pleased with the quality of service. I thought the cost was comparable to competitors and I didn't feel like they were trying to be pushy or pull one over on me.
