New gun prices seem inline with online pricing. Used gun prices way over priced. Helpful staff. Accessory items like gun oil, holsters, cleaners, etc. also over priced. Pay $17 and change for same gun cleaner purchased at another gun store for $14 and change. FFl fee is ridiculous at $40 bucks when it is $25 at most other gun stores. Did find another gun store in Shelby charging $30 ffl fee. $5 above avg. is ok, $15 over avg. is gouging. They seem to cater to the local hunters/sportsmen who don't think twice about paying inflated prices but wonder why they are in $20k of credit card debt. read more

With it being 2026 you would think buying NFA items old be a breeze as there is no longer the $200 ATF tax but you still have to do the form 4 and wait for the ATF to approve the form. With changes to E forms the ATF had a period where approved forms were not email notifying the client. So we filed the form 4 on 1/21/26. I waited a month and knew something was wrong. Went to the shop and asked them to check as the ATF had a known problem with email notifications. They looked at me like I knew nothing and was a retard stating that they have been getting emails the system works go home till you get the email. I visited again the next month now we are in March and Seth said he looked at his eforms and it was still not approved. At this point I contacted the ATF myself. Took 5 emails but I got an update from them and they stated the form was approved on 2/3/26. So not only did this shop not have a clue of the current impact of issues the ATF had going on for form emails but they directly lies and waisted my time but I as the client had to go to the ATF and do the dealers job for them. I should have know when i was told one person that works their part time does all the NFA there would be issues. I have 50 plus NFA items and will not be back to this shop. read more

Even though I didn't buy my boat from them (they don't sell pontoon boats) I take my boat to TGO for all my service and maintenance work. I also go there for all my accessory installs. Bought a prime bow from them went to go shoot it and the draw length bolt had all ready came lose and I lost one bolt so I brought it back to the bow tech at the store and he said there is nothing he can do told me to go to a hardware store after I spent 1000$ on this bow this really makes me sick. I do not recommend buying a bow or taking your bow to get worked on here. Hopefully they will learn how to tighten bolts. read more

I have shopped at The Great Outdoors four different times. Out of those four times one was a pleasant experience, only because I did not interact with an employee other than the cashier. The other three experiences were repulsive. My latest experience on 9/20/2023 will be the last dollar I ever spend at this location. Store closes at 6pm. I walked in at 5:40 and was checked out and out of the store before 6pm. I walked in for an FFL transfer. The entire time this process took place the employee was tossing pens, paperwork, and my license around on the counter. Slapping his finger on the counter and snatching paper work around, at one point he tossed a paper with my confidential information on the counter and it flew off and landed on the ground several feet away. At which I picked it up and slapped it on the counter. After he seen that I begin to get frustrated with his childish tantrum he begin calling me "sir". In an attempt to cover up his previous unprofessional and nasty attitude. After the FFL was completed he said "I'm meet you at the counter". His attitude got the best of him and LEFT the firearm on the gun counter unattended. I have NEVER walked my own firearm from a gun counter accross the store to the checkout counter. Not to mention the FFL transfer was 40$. I own over a dozen firearms, most of which I have bought online and had them transferred to me at a FFL. I have never spent more than 25$ on a transfer. Unprofessional, overpriced, rude, and undeserving of serving the people of Cherryville. read more

I took some brand new Trijicon HD XR sights to be installed on my Sig P229. The guy who did the job, Seth, kept me waiting for forty-five minutes while he worked. Was it worth the wait? He broke my old sights getting them off the slide, telling me that such a thing "just normally happens with Sigs". Here's a fun fact: It doesn't. This has never happened to me before and I've never even heard of it happening to someone else. Regardless, I was charged $30 for the installation. I get the pistol home and after about a day the front site has no active tritium left working. It shipped brand new, worked fine before it was installed, and then didn't work at all. I shipped it back to Trijicon and they confirmed that the tritium vial had been busted during the installation. So to recap, Seth managed to break both my old sights and my new sights in forty-five minutes and made $30 for doing so. I have the emails from Trijicon and my old, broken sights for anyone that wants proof. Thanks, moron. Whatever you do, DO NOT take your firearms for service in this place. read more

I have been shopping at Great Outdoors since they opened on main street. The store and staff are first class always, Seth and others have always bent over backwards to help me. I have bought countless number of firearms, hunting and fishing accessories over many years. I saw the bad review and had to speak up Seth is first class and accidents do happen. I can tell you if it was Seths fault he would have immediately taken care of it. The Great Outdoors is one of the last mom & pop shops and we in Gaston and surrounding counties should support it.
