Overall, it was a good experience. The vibe is a classic American Lodge type. It's relaxed, laid back, and inviting to both those who want a drink and families that want to eat pizza together. We were served very quickly and it was attentive. Everyone was very friendly! When asking for special substitutions (regular chicken breast instead of breaded for chicken Parm), they didn't hesitate to help me out. The mozzarella sticks were very good. Not too often you get homemade mozzarella sticks! The chicken Parm was good too. The side salad was a nice touch and was nicely done. Portions were very good, ended up needing a takehome box. We stopped in for dinner and sat at the bar. We were greated by the bartender and we asked her what they were know for food wise. She quickly responded "Pizza". We were a little apprehensive since we are from Chicago. We ordered the pizza and an order of Mozz sticks. The pizza crust was crisp and cooked perfectly, was it Chicago pizza? No it wasn't, was it good? Yes it sure was. We took the left overs. The small pizza is huge! The Mozz sticks were good and enough to feed 4 people. Service was very friendly and personable. I had read the reviews and saw something about sizing, but figured I could make two or three meals out of it. I opted to choose my own toppings, but the specialty pizzas did look great. Takes about 20-30 minutes from order to eating.Small pizza looked about like a standard "chain" large pizza. Thin crust, great sauce and good amount of cheese. In DeSoto, there are not a lot of dining options...but this likely ranks as the best of the lot (unless you wanna drive 30+ minutes to dinner.) Big burgers and other sandwiches are offered, but we -- like many patrons-- opted for pizza. The list of "specialty" pizzas is long, and the serving size is enormous. (The "small" is really a "medium", our server told us.) We settled on the Taco Pizza, but kinda wished we hadn't. Ground beef, cheese, tomato sauce, romaine lettuce and crumbled tortilla chips piled atop a flavorful crust. Looked good on paper, but the actual pizza was disappointing: lukewarm, messy to eat and not all that flavorful. But hey: there WAS a lot of it! (We wound up taking half the pizza home in a box, but I'm not thinking it'll make great leftovers once the romaine wilts.) A spinach-and-artichoke dip appetizer was ok, but largely unnecessary given the gargantuan size of the pizza. I did enjoy my cocktail: a "New Fashioned" made with Bulliet bourbon. The experience here was very sub par. The food was good but not great. The mozz sticks were very big and good. Pizza tasted very good as well. It took 15 minutes to get the appetizer and 55 minutes to get the pizza. It wasn't busy at the time of ordering so it was confusing. All this could have been overlooked if we were told it would take the time it did due to whatever reason to make it. The service was awful. 10 minutes to receive drinks and no one checked on us for 30 minutes as I attempted to flag someone down for a refill. At that point where we going to walk out the server finally asked. Then took another 10 minutes to receive a can of pop with a cup of ice. After asking about the time it took to get food I was told they were busy, which wasn't true when we ordered. Not one apology about it just excuses. Awesome service and food. These folks go out of the way to make you feel comfortable. Our grandson failed to win a stuffed toy out of the claw machine, after his sister won a stuffed toy. He was almost in tears; the staff tried to win a toy for him, with their own money, and they won him a softy! He was overly thankful and so were we! You have a choice between cod and perch (I recommend the cod). Like many-a-fry, the cod is lightly battered and deep fried to a crispy-outside and flaky-inside yum. And, it's guaranteed to bring you Four Happiness! Pizza seems to be a local favorite at The Roadhouse. Many were chowing on it. Clarissa J. and I didn't try the 'za because, well, being from Chicago....why? However, I admit It did look good, especially for western WI. DeSoto is located on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi River, about 2 1/2 hours west of Madison. Very secluded and quaint. Located on the scenic Great River Road (route 35, along the Mississippi River), it is -the- place to stop for a beer, burger, huge shrimp, steak, catfish, etc. It is always packed with passers-by, be it bikers on a road trip or locals. Evenings are busy, around lunch time it's busy - they don't do breakfast as far as i know. But with the quality of the staff, the nice ambience, i'm sure it will be a hit too ;-) Try the garlic mashed potatoes, the shrimp and the catfish. coleslaw is awesome as well. They got a nice range of beers (bottle / can); and Spotted Cow is on tap, so is Blue Moon (not my favorite...) I live in DeSoto and my Dad and I were on our way back from errands in La Crosse, so we stopped for some dinner. First thing I noticed was the view, the Mississippi is right there and at sunset it was pretty spectacular. I'm watching portion sizes as part of my diet, so I opted for the Chicken Tenders and some fries, since their burgers are 1/3 lb and the only steak on the menu is very large. The chicken was fantastic. Nice and warm, crunchy outside with firm but chewable inside, perfect with the ranch on the side. Fries were superb as well, fresh and hot, good flavor without tasting like potato and oil, wonderful with a little ketchup. I had lemonade with my meal, (I've cut out soda), and it comes bottled and the waitress kindly pored it into a glass with ice for me. It was a really good blend of sweet and tangy, I had 3 glasses actually haha! TV's were spaced out and were playing different Olympic events. Staff was super nice. I can't drink obviously but from what I saw the bar has plenty to offer. Will definitely be a regular customer now, and if you're ever in the area, make a detour for an awesome meal with an awesome view of the river! read more

Arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday evening. Took 30 minutes to get a high top in the bar (table was longer). Immediately ordered some onion rings and a pizza. Onion rings arrived in about 30 minutes; the pizza took an hour and 22 minutes to show up. We ordered the spicy Sicilian. Somehow we missed the meaning of "sweet chili sauce" at the end of the description. The pizza was so sweet it was almost inedible. Plus I think the "crust" was pre-made or bought. All the other pizzas looked very good so maybe this is one to avoid. The onion rings were very good. Avoid on busy days, they cannot handle the crowds. It's been a few years since I stopped by. But we decided to pop in for a pizza at about 8 on Saturday night after cruising through the casino and spending our day just kind of road tripping around without a real goal in sight. The Roadhouse pretty much look the same as I remembered it. We had to stand there awkwardly for a few minutes before somebody noticed us and told us we could sit anywhere. We sat a good ten minutes before anyone noticed us and brought menus. No problem though, because we were really there to just sit back and enjoy the sunset and the atmosphere... Plus the girls seemed to be hopping as fast as they could. I noticed that some things were different. I don't think I was there as late during my first trip, when the Sun starts going down... It gets really dark in there. Not just like dimly-lit bar dark, but it was so dark I felt like I couldn't really see my food. I honestly wish it was just a little bit brighter in there. Pizza seemed a little bit bland. The size was definitely generous and the toppings we're over the top. The crust was a little chewy. The medium was a generous size portion and we took home at least half of it. Hopefully the leftovers are tasty. I would love to go back for something else on the menu, not sure if I'm interested in eating in the dark again though. Server was friendly. Only to have it arrive AFTER a table that arrived an hour after us got their pizza, and after our own entrees finally started coming out, which also took an extremely long time. Barely got an apology, and even though the food was great it was tainted by the inattention and the extremely long wait which held up the rest of our day. Then topped off by dirty plates and sauce being spilled on me as they were cleaning up. I was understanding, but nothing was credited or offered, which we all expected something after the whole mess, so I don't think we'll be back. Best pizza I have had in years. Small was about $24, but could easily feed 3 adults. Tons of topping choices. Ribeye $32 was only steak on menu but excellent. $1.95 per can of Iced tea, so no free refills obviously. I assume this is same for all sodas and non alcoholic beverages. We have been coming here for 24 years! The pizza is the best around. Very unique offerings; BLT, Shrimp, etc...they have not missed a beat with the transition to the new owners. They can get very busy on Friday and Saturday nights (especially in the summer or various hunting seasons) so plan ahead and enjoy the view. We bring all our visitors here! The best thing that this place has going for it is the view. The pizza is a big seller and it is good with the exception that the crust is usually undercooked. We stopped in on a Sunday evening for other than pizza. The service is really slow, and no it was not that busy. I was disappointed that the waitresses continued to walk past and over trash on the floor. Our waitress never came to ask if we needed another drink or more water. Our meals were served at different times. One was a salad and one was a burger so it shouldn't have been too complex.
