Loved the previous owner, stayed on for this new one. Had a really weird experience with the receptionist and my payment. They said I would need to pay an additional $400 after having already paid $200 for a filling. I reached out to my insurance and they were able to get it sorted out so I didn't have to pay any additional, but it was really upsetting to be told this is my problem and I should pay it when I have dental insurance for a reason. His front desk staff is super nice, but he seems to only want to benefit on how much $$$ he can get out of my insurance. i called the office this morning seeking a quick relief for an emergency ongoing toothache. I was frustrated because I was in pain and it was keeping me up at night. I asked for the earliest appointment they could see me and luckily they were able to get me in this afternoon. I was ecstatic! Iy was my first experience with the staff. They were all friendly, attentive, and so supportive. They even held my hand when I was tensing up and feeling anxious. Dr. Reeves was amazing with a super gentle touch and patient in making sure I had the best comfortable and pain free experience. If I could give this office 0 stars I would! Don't' go to this office unless you want a botched job and your teeth ruined! I went to get a deep cleaning with Dr Yamil Reeves at Great Smile Dental of Chula Vista on Dec 19th. During that cleaning the hygienist that was providing the deep cleaning was scratching so hard that in the process she pulled off my crown. During the cleaning I remember the hygienist went to get Dr. Reeves to come and he looked at it and asked the hygienist to go and retrieve 2 types of cement. In my mind, I'm like why do they need cement?? But I thought they are the professionals. They know what they are doing. Or so I thought. She brought over what I assume was the cement and he proceeded to cement my crown back on. After they were done with my deep cleaning, they said they were done. But I find alarming is that they did not inform me of what had happened and what they were doing to fix it. Dr Reeves put my crown back on, they told me my deep cleaning was done and sent me on my way. Not once before I left did, they even mention to me what happened. I went home thinking everything was ok. Within the hour, when the numbing was wearing off, I noticed when I closed my bite, I would hit my tooth. I just kept hitting it. I realized something was wrong. My bite was off and uneven. I immediately call them back and told them what I was experiencing. And the receptionist asked me if I could come back to get looked at. I went back as soon as hung up the phone. When I went to the chair to get looked at. That is where Dr Reeves told me that in the deep cleaning process my crown was accidentally removed. He said he cemented it back, but because I was numb. He could not even out my bite at that time. Like really? You couldn't tell me ahead of time so I knew what to expect and maybe tell me that I would need to come back to even my bite? So, the numbness wore off, and he drilled and had me bite what felt like a foil and then he drilled. We repeated that for about 4 or 5 times until my bite felt even. When it was done. I received no apology. No explanation as to what happened. Just that my crown was removed by accident. That was the week of the December 19th. From that moment, I felt a little pain. On and off, not bad pain, but it was on and off and I attribute it to soreness from the cleaning and the work they did. So, I waited. A week later, I noticed the pain was getting a little worse as the days went by. I wanted to call them back to talk to them about it. But they closed the week Dec 26th-Jan 2nd. I had to spend the holidays with excruciating tooth pain. On Jan 3rd, I called them and spoke to them about what I was experiencing with the pains on and off and he did offer to look at it and get it fixed. But I did not go back because at that point I did not feel comfortable with Dr. Reeves work ethics and how he handled my procedure. The lack of communication and explanation of what was done to my tooth scared me enough to not go back to him for any more procedures. I do not trust his work and was terrified to go back to him. I went to another dentist to make an appointment to get my tooth looked at. But the next available date they had was 01/10/23. I had to wait another week to be seen. From Jan 3rd to Jan 10th. The pain in my tooth went from worse to horrible excruciating pain. It was a constant throbbing pain in my tooth. I could not eat or sleep well. At nighttime the pain was worse when I laid down. I had to sleep sitting up for days to try and not feel so much pain. I had to take Ibuprofen and Tylenol every 3 hours to help with the pain. But it never really helped. Pain was just too horrible. The new dentist finally took a look at my tooth and first noticed that the tooth was very high above my gum, and she said that could be what was causing the pain but couldn't know for sure. Upon taking an Xray, she said Dr. Reeves left excess cement around my crown. He did not clean that up and left my tooth that way. At that point, she told me that because of the symptoms I was feeling. I would need to have a root canal on that tooth. I was very upset. Because I had no issues with my crown or problems with that tooth up until I went for that cleaning. And I was also upset at how Dr. Reeves just let me go with no explanation as to what happened and what he might have needed to do to fix the tooth crown. Due to the extensive damage, he caused the new dentist started the root canal but then I had to be referred to an Endodontist to help with my root canal. And once the Endodontist completed his part of the root canal. I finally was able to complete my crown with the new dentist. Dr. Reeves is unethical and doesn't know what he is doing. And, I think he's shady because he was also saying that if I needed more gum therapy he would refer me to his wife's practice. They are just trying to make money! Please be careful going to this office. read more

This is an absolute farce, and this guy is a charlatan. I'm actually surprised someone hasn't sued him yet. As others have said, not only did the receptionist not tell me the details of what my plan covers when I asked, but I was later charged hundreds of dollars by my insurance that said the stuff he did was not covered (I have good insurance and this had not happened at my previous dentist, who retired). But here's the worst part: when I went in, I specifically requested a basic checkup and a basic cleaning. Not only did he start doing a bunch of stuff I didn't ask for, but when I objected and told him I just wanted a basic cleaning, he actually was rude to me and said: "Yes, I know, you want a cleaning, you've already said it like 4 times." Find another dentist. I did, and she's awesome already. I pay 25 bucks a year copay and the receptionist explained all of this to me AT THE BEGINNING. Also, they gave me a basic cleaning right away when I asked. The Great Smile dude told me I had something like 4 or 5 cavities when I brush a lot and eat almost no sugar. Yes, I know cavities could still have been been possible, but my new dentist only said I had one cavity, which made sense because it was the one tooth where I felt some minor sensitivity. So the Great Smile dude is likely lying about the work people actually need and scamming them. And to add insult to injury, I keep unsubscribing from the emails and texts from Great Smile's dental office and somehow they keep sending me more. That's what led me to write this review, I was just going to let it go. But this guy is a grade A charlatan, and others should know. And if this were more informal, I would have used a lot more profanity to emphasize how much I think so. read more

When Dr. Largoza owned this clinic, she provided excellent, reliable, and trustworthy service. She was our family dentist for over 20+ years. However, the service went from awesome to worst when new owners assumed the business. I had my first cleaning appointment post-Largoza era. It went well until a few days later when I started feeling irritation in my left lower molar area. I was advised to come back for a check-up with Dr. Reeves. That was the first mistake. After doing some poking on the site, he said that I had to come back again for his wife to look into it. The second mistake. She recommended pulling the molar and placing a bone graft. I trusted Dr. Largoza's guidance over the years, so I did the same and followed the female Dr. Reeve's recommendation. After completing the procedure, she immediately mentioned getting a tooth implant to replace the molar. After leaving the clinic, I asked myself, "Why extract the good tooth, to begin with, and now replace it with an implant?" It's all about money, people! The first procedure - extraction and bone graft - cost $900 out of pocket even though I had two dental insurance. Who knows how much they would have charged me for an implant if I did not decide immediately to ditch these two dishonest dentists? Stay away, people! read more

I was a patient of Dr. Largoza's since moving to the Chula Vista area in 2018. She was a consummate professional, as was her dental hygienist and office staff. I was set to return to her post pregnancy (I gave birth summer 2021) for the routine cleaning and checkup, but she retired and elected Dr. Reeves as her replacement. As she had been such an excellent dentist, I trusted that she would choose someone as dedicated to patient health as she was. At my first visit with Dr. Reeves in October, I was somewhat surprised as all of Dr. Largoza's office staff was gone. My usual hygienist was gone as well, but I knew she was on maternity leave so I chalked it up to that. At that appointment, I was informed that I needed extensive work done, 4 crowns and a couple fillings. Much like the absent office staff, this should have set off alarms in my head, but I ignored my gut instinct and explained it away to myself as the effects of two back to back pregnancies. I knew the procedures would be expensive, and was advised by the front desk staff to get some work done in 2021 and the rest in 2022 as my insurance wouldn't cover it all. Instead, I asked if they were in network for another policy, as I am a veteran and eligible for an additional one under the Department of Veterans Affairs (my primary policy is through my active duty husband). They said they were, so I elected to get the second policy. I asked for the estimated cost of the work, and the front desk staff (Evy or Eby I believe her name was) told me she couldnt give that to me until the second policy was active. Dr. Largoza's staff would always inform me of pricing before I made the next appointment, so this was another red flag. Fast forward two months, and I get the work done. Only afterwards was did I receive a cost for over $3k. When I asked what gives, especially as I have two policies, Eby admitted they weren't in network for EITHER of my insurance policies, that they were still in queue for being enrolled in network for both but it was taking extensively long "due to covid". She assured me that they had charged me the "in network" rate, because without that rate it would have been upwards of $5k. She swore that she had told me this, that they weren't in network for either (she did not), but Yelpers, think about that; why would I get a second policy that effectively couldn't be used by my dentist? Why would I pay expensive monthly premiums for insurance they didn't take? What sense does that make? The dental work itself was shoddy, one tooth that had the crown done was extremely painful after the work was done. Initially, I was told my nerves were "raw" from having so much work done, and that the pain would diminish and to come back in the new year (this was done right before Christmas). I was handling the extreme pain with a combination of Tylenol and ibuprofen. I told Dr. Reeves this and requested a script for ibuprofen (I was using prescription grade from my c-section to handle the dental pain) and he prescribed me Tylenol 3 instead. When I told him that I'm a breastfeeding mother, he said "just pump", as if that would absolve my milk of having opiate pain medication in it (that if I took as prescribed would never be out of my bloodstream and safe for my infant daughter to drink). Beyond being a breastfeeding mom, I think its very strange to prescribe anyone opiates when they've said NSAIDs can handle the pain. I had to go through the holidays using OTC tylenol and ibuprofen which didnt manage pain as effectively as the prescription strength. It was only after this period that I was able to get a prescription for ibuprofen from Dr. Reeves, who in his own words prescribed it only because a "month is too long to be on Tylenol 3". Again, I don't understand the reticence to prescribe a NSAID but not opiates. I'm being seen at a new practice now, and the painful tooth with a crown on it needs a root canal as well as a new crown. That, as well as 10 cavities that need filling (how did those get missed, I wonder) came up to a whopping $365 using only one of my policies, weeks before the work will be done. Extrapolate to the work Dr. Reeves did, and the 4 crowns shouldn't have cost me more than $1400, less than that because they could have used both policies. Instead, they chose to bait and switch. Beyond that though, I'm very troubled by pushing opiate pain medication when we all know the addictiveness of these medications, and that as a medical professional he was so ignorant to the effects of opiates via breastmilk will have on an infant, and that "just pumping" doesn't magically make breastmilk safe. Lastly, I left a review for Dr. Largoza 3 years ago on Yelp that is no longer visible outside of my profile. I strongly suspect it was removed from public view after my misadventures with the new practice. Ive attached it here. read more

Now we are getting billed for services that were provided. Never were we told by the office staff that there was an estimated patient portion... or any type of communication that we would be billed of anything as we have insurance - something they kept disputing. Yet when they claimed I didn't have insurance, those girls were ready to give me an estimate of cost! Be forewarned - any patients of the previous dentist, this new staff will not disclose to you that your insurance is no longer in-network... so they will charge whatever they want for even basic services. Then will tell you an excuse about covid delaying everything Unscrupulous. I have never had to deal with this lack of communication and disorder with any dental/orthodontic provider. My kids have been going to a pediatric dentist and we have always been given estimates before any work is done, pending payment would be necessary. And to make matters worse, the dentist emailed me to ask me to remove my Yelp review! Be warned before you take your business here. read more

I love how friendly the staff is here. Everyone doesn't look like they dread coming to work. The office staff is incredibly nice and helpful, they answer all my insurance questions and general costs. The dental assistant's here don't give you bad vibes about your teeth but good affirmations that you are here now to fix your teeth which is very encouraging. I like the communication during procedures and cleaning. My dental assist consistently asked if that was too hard and always warning about what's coming as far as sensitivity. Talk about bad service! I came here because of the great reviews on Yelp. I had pain and needed a root canal. The first appointment was fine, Dr. Largoza was friendly and recommended a specialist. The root canal went well, and so did the temporary crown. The issues started when she did the permanent crown. The entire time she was doing the crown, she kept telling me how much work my mouth needed ( yes, I'm well aware of that, that is why I'm in your chair), and she was pretty rough the entire time. I could have gotten over that if she did a good job on the crown. I called back about a month later because the crown felt uncomfortable and after looking at it, she said there's nothing wrong with it and kept reassuring that her work was "beautiful". It's in the back of my mouth- I just want it to be comfortable. She suggested it was the root canal, and told me to go back to the specialist. The specialist works in El Cajon, only two days in the middle of the week... I kept trying to explain to her that I'm self-employed and taking a day off in the middle of the week is very difficult for me. Instead of taking a day off work, I went and got a second opinion from a referral. The bite was off on my crown- a simple adjustment she could have done in a few minutes. The other dentist just had to look at my X-ray to tell me the root canal was perfect. Why didn't she do that when I came in the first time?? I've been uncomfortable for months. The Dentist; where do I get started. Normally I have tons of anxiety and am extremely nervous before the visit. Once I arrived to the office, I was scheduled for some fillings and was extremely delighted to be there. They gave me a super soft pillow for my head and made my dental experience very quick, and with minimal pain if any. I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to the dentist, so when I came to Dr. Largoza's office, I was fearful to say the least. However, after the gentle treatment at the hands of her and her staff, my fears have greatly subsided. I experienced little pain in what are usually painful procedures for me, and was talked through everything beforehand. Dr. Largoza and the hygienist Melissa are apt professionals, and worked quickly and skillfully on my "grill". The little touches, like the tv on the ceiling to distract from what was going on help a lot! My husband made an appointment online weeks an advance to become a new client for a check up. When he went in for his scheduled appointment today they told him they couldn't see him. Because they supposedly did not have him for a scheduled appointment. He's also showed them proof that he has a confirmation email on his phone but they proceeded to say next time call instead of scheduling online.
