Horrible, horrible, horrible service! They don't honor schedules appointments so be prepared to wait an eternity. Patient after patient after patient came before my mother and when it was her turn the doctor was so rude she made her cry! And the the procedure was done incorrectly!? This has happened before and I went full mama bear for my mother. My mother is an elderly lady who doesn't know how to defend herself, well I do and I was flabbergasted at how the receptionist was trying to justify the doctors behavior. As a healthcare professional, or anyone, there are consequences to how your treat people. Who is she to belittle and bully someone. I wish I could give them a zero, because I would. Been here a few times and each time I've been pleased. It's convenient for me because their office, right off Irving Parkis right on my way home. It's clean, the hygienist does a great job. I have no dental probs, so don't have much to say about the dentist. Their usually in my mouth for a total of 40 seconds... lol. Good place. Today my mom went in for a crown and she had to wait pass her appointment while 3 people that came in after her were seen before her. But that isn't the point the crown wasn't don't right and it came out uneven. The dentist was in a hurry and rushed the whole process. This dentist made her wait 3 weeks and this isn't the first time my mom has felt that this dentist has treated her in this manner. My mother is in her 70's and left this appointment in tears for how poorly she was treated. read more

Dr. Nucs and his staff are excellent. The office is clean and everyone is very professional. Dr. Nucs is gentle and explains everything he is doing. The office is willing to work with my insurance company, too. I am definitely going to bring my kids here for their check ups and cleanings. I've been a patient of Dr. Toy's around twenty years and have found that she is the most competent of the four dentists I've had. Minimal pain and she helps me take care of my teeth. My wife and children come here as well as my extended family. The staff really cares about your oral health and are able to get our entire family in on the same day as well as Saturday appointments. I went to Great Smiles a couple of times because with my insurance at the time, it was my only option. The fact that the door is always locked and they have to buzz you in is a little off putting but, OK. Whatever. If I'd only had to get a cleaning, it might have been fine. However, I had to get a crown (or at least they told me I had to) and that is where the problems began. I go for the initial appointment and the dentist then starts saying that maybe I should have a root canal. I ask why? She doesn't have much of an answer and we proceed with the crown prep. They prepare the tooth, take the molds, etc and fit me with the temporary telling me it will take 2-4 weeks to get the actual crown back from the "lab". This seems like normal operating procedure as I've had a crown put on before. They give me instruction on not chewing on that side, etc. I follow their advice and a few days later the temp falls off leaving a mound of raw nerves exposed which, as I'm sure you can imagine, is very sensitive. I go back in to have it re-glued into place. The dentist once again brings up the root canal. She says "because it seem sensitive". I'm not a dentist so I ask, "Wouldn't I be sensitive? I have a mound of raw nerves exposed?". She says yes and we move on. A week later, it falls off again and I go back in. She once again brings up this root canal and I ask her why. She again refers to my sensitivity. Mind you - during this past week, I've talked to one of my friends who is a dentist and she told me I have shown no signs that would lead her to believe that I need a root canal. I'm guessing this dentist's brother or cousin is the oral surgeon and is looking for new patients...why else would she be pushing so hard for this root canal? Either that or she has no idea how to do a crown? Anyway, this time they are going to use the good glue...she tells me, "This might hurt a little bit" (because she didn't numb me). I grab the armrests and white hot searing pain shoots through my body when she touches this cold brush to my raw nerve mound. As the tears roll down my face and sweat rolls off my brow, she tells me it will subside shortly. This, in fact, was true. However I wouldn't force my greatest enemy to endure that kind of pain. The temp is back on and stays on until the permanent one finally comes in. I go in, have it glued in...everything seems OK now..I pay $600 and it's over with. Fast forward a year later to me changing jobs and dentists. This new dentist is the best (see my Big City Dental review). They take individual pictures of all of my teeth and the dentist is showing me what's going on with all of them. We get to the crown - which seems OK (although there was some questionable "soft" areas around it) - but then he shows me how the surrounding teeth have little areas shaved out of them to allow the crown to fit properly. You can clearly see it in the pictures. Once again, I'm no dentist but I'm pretty sure you're just supposed to make the crown fit...not cut out pieces of surrounding teeth to make the crown fit. To make matters worse, about 6 months later I can't chew on this side anymore and have to go in to have the crown replaced. Evidently, within 15 months I've gotten a cavity under the crown...which shouldn't happen BTW. I guess this clears up the question of why she wanted me to have the root canal...because crowns aren't her strong point. Thanks so much Great Smiles...because I have so much free money to be spending on dental work. Now I'm out the $600 I paid you (insurance covered half) and the extra $1500 I just spent to have the job done correctly. read more

Waited waited and waited for almost an hour for a general cleaning , I asked how much longer and couldn't get a straight answer , so I said good bye and currently looking for another dentist. Is it so hard for them to call you and say we are running way behind can we re schedule or come in later !!! How arrogant because you have nothing better to do !!! read more

So I went to Great Smiles for my husband and I. I wanted a general cleaning, but went knowing my husband needed more work done. Dr. Toy was nice and recommended some deep cleaning on a couple of my teeth, and of course further work on my husband, which was expected. Our first impression was fine, but they had to schedule the cleaning for another time, so all we had done was an exam for the initial visit. So when our next visit came up a couple weeks later, my husband ended up being called into work, so he rescheduled his appointment. The front desk person (Menchie?) was apparently rude to him when he was trying to reschedule, and presumed that because he rescheduled, I was going to cancel my appointment too (even though I wasn't). I told him that maybe he misread her response. I called later that day because I wanted to make sure that it would be ok if I cancel my deep cleaning, but still do a regular cleaning (wasn't sure if I would be rescheduled with a hygienist rather than Dr. Toy, so I wanted to make sure I didn't mess up their schedule). I guess they were busy on the phone (it was during business hours), so I had to leave a message. I got a message the following day asking for me to call them back regarding my appt. When I called back, the same receptionist told me that Dr. Toy had told her that I can't do a regular cleaning because she NEEDS to do the deep cleaning. Mind you, the deep cleaning was only going to be for my very back molars on one side, which the doctor had told me they weren't bad, but to keep it from getting worse, it was recommended. OK, I told her, I would like to focus on my husband because his dental work was going to cost a lot of money, and since his dental disease was more advanced, I wanted to focus on him, and I would reassess in 6 months, and that is why I want just a regular cleaning. She said no, because the doctor said I needed the deep cleaning. So, I had to cancel my appt because I didn't want to do the deep cleaning. I took the afternoon off of work in order for me to make this appointment, so I'm very irritated at this point. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication between the receptionist and Dr. Toy. But I was very unhappy that they didn't even explain anything, they didn't seem to care, it seemed to me the receptionist had better things to do than to explain anything to me. I even said, I just want a regular cleaning, the "deep cleaning" was only going to be a couple of teeth, what about the rest of my teeth? The only response was, well, you can come in and talk to the doctor, but she already said she won't do it because you scheduled for a deep cleaning. Bottom line, the doctor was fine when we saw her. My husband had a fear of dentists, and it took a lot for me to even get him there in the first place. If money was what they were after, they were already going to get a lot from my husbands dental work, but instead we are deciding to go elsewhere all because they didn't let me get a regular cleaning. read more

I have 3 kids so going to the dentist is always tasking, but they're so accommodating! I've never had to wait long. The staff is very friendly and the office is clean. I have gone for many years so have seen both Dr. Luat and now Dr. Toy but the service is always first class. The kids love going to the dentist so they must be doing something right! read more

I have been seeing Dr Toy for so many years I can't remember for how long maybe about 10 years. Dr Toy is very serious about her work, she is friendly, warm and careful not to cause pain. I never dread going to see her. Menchi the office secretary is knowledgeable about insurance plans and is very kind and helpful All the assistants are very kind, respectful and gentle too. I've been going here for 10 years plus. My insurance has changed (almost yearly) and they handle the nonsense with the insurance for me. I've had 3 crowns and several fillings done here and they look great and blend seamlessly with my teeth. Dr Toy is meticulous and has a fine attention to detail. Like most of us, I am not a big fan of going to the dentist, but the staff at Great Smiles Dental is amazing at making your experience relaxed and comfortable. I come in twice a year and the front desk always remember me by name every time. It makes the visit very personal. All of the dentists and hygienists are very kind and knowledgable. I do not like the customer service at all. Cynthia could not find me in the system and said I did not know how to spell my own name! I had to call back and call my insurance (put on hold again) and thats what the lady told me over the phone instead of Cynthia owning up on her mistake and rather blame the patient. A waste of time ! I've been there a few times, always on time. They made me wait minimum 20 minutes ever time, once their dentist showed up half hour late. Today I was 15 minutes late, and they did not take me, the dentist and hygienist did not even give me respect as a patient that is always on time, to tell me themselves. Their front desk staff is rude and I feel that they don't care, I had my 2 kids with me today and had go through hell with my work to make it there. Apparently it is their policy that if you 10 minutes or more late, then they cancel your appointment, I was 13 minutes late according to my time. I would not recommend them at all, they have no respect for their patients and THEY WILL CANCEL YOU APPOINTMENT IF YOU ARE 10 MINUTES LATE, even though they are always late with us. I've had two rounds of experience with Great Smiles, both of them positive. From the women who make appointments and deal with insurance, to the assistants and specialists, my experiences generally have been positive. Fees and processes are clearly explained, and the chief dentist, Dr. Toy, has a serious but warm demeanor. My recent experiences there have included a pulled tooth, with a long replacement process. The care and follow-up have been excellent; Dr. Smulson is a fine specialist. All of the staff have great manner, friendly and empathetic, and Dr. Toy has gentle, precise hands in my experience. He work on crowns is excellent, with great color matching. Overall, if you are looking for an excellent dental office in your neighborhood, Great Smiles is a terrific choice. read more
