J and I used to be helpful and almost made up for how unhelpful Kubota is. Two months ago, Kubota migrated to a new online billing and it has been aweful. J and I informed me that I am SOL and they won't or can't help. Well they did give me a phone number to call but that number requires you account number to get through the computer and J and I didn't bother to tell me my account number despite my telling them I didn't know it, because the bill only has the last four of the contract/account number. My family and I have always bought and had our stuff fixed here. I recently bought a blower, chainsaw, and had a few things looked at and fixed by their repair shop. Back in November 2023, I took my BR600 blower in to be looked at. It was acting pukey, on off button needed fixed. I figured it needed a tune up, I purchased it at pawn shop 3 years ago for under 300 dollars, never had it serviced ran like a champ, and I'm hard on them! So I thought maybe bad gas, spark plug etc. They call and tell me a few weeks later that it needs carburetor rebuilt and valves adjusted. I asked how much, and I believe it was well over 300 dollars. I said ok let me think on it. My father had just been admitted to hospital with a brain bleed and wasn't doing well. The guy on phone said well you will need to pick it asap, like it was taking up alot of space? I was completely pissed after telling him about my situation he didn't care. So I went and picked it up, I believe I paid 50 bucks to have her looked at. I didn't have the time back then to look at it and was using my new 800 I had purchased from them. Well guess what? Last week I pulled the old girl out put new gas and new plug in her, yup she runs great! Same carburetor and no valve adjustment!!!!! Ladies beware, try and have someone who is mechanically inclined, look at your machine before going here, and get charged for repairs you don't need! Absolutely disgusted with them! I will go here for warranty stuff, but I will no longer step foot anywhere near here! read more

A few weeks ago I drove 1.5 hrs from my home in North Kitsap County to Olympia for the sole purpose of checking out J&I Power Equipment. I'd purchased a new 2021 Kubota L2501 tractor from my local Kubota Dealer in Silverdale WA and the attention to detail and customer service I'd received from them went from just OK to completely MIA. There no need to go into all the details here but I will say I'd been warned to avoid the Silverdale Kubota Dealer by friends and neighbors who also own Kubota tractors. I really wanted to keep my business local but, silly me, the first warning was when I first walked into the Silverdale Dealer's store I had my 92 year old friend, neighbor, WWII vet, SeaBee, heavy equipment operator and mechanic with me for technical and mechanical support. We were not acknowledged by the 4 or 5 people in the front of the store and when I finally got a salesperson's attention, he completely ignored my companion. My senior friend was left standing when the youngish salesperson sat down then offered me a chair, which I immediately offered to my friend. I then walked across to the next desk and took their spare chair over to the salesperson's desk for myself. Yeah, I know... kinda small potatoes but, to me, now, a clear sign of what was to come. I arrived at J&I Power Equipment around 11am on a Monday. I parked in front, got out of my car and casually walked around their parking lot getting my bearings on the layout. They have a huge equipment showroom up front, a Parts Department on the side, their Service Desk and Shop in the back and power equipment of all shapes and sizes everywhere. My first stop was the Service area and when I approached I was greeted outside by a young man named Josh who smiled warmly and held the door for me. (!) He then listened to my brief explanation of my reason for being there, then simply asked "how can I help you"? (Wow) Already feeling positive about this experience, I explained my current needs in detail to Josh who assured me that he was ready, willing and able to assist. He took my personal and tractor information, entered it into the computer, shared his email address so I could send photos of my problem to him and gave me his business card AND his supervisor's business card. I walked out of the Service area wondering if this incredibly positive experience was real. After checking out a couple of new machines on the lot I walked around to the front of the business and into the big showroom. I was greeted instantly and ask if there was anything they could help me with. (!) I told her that I just checking their operation out and she said she'd be happy to answer any questions I have. (Wait, what?) I thanked her and started slowly walking towards the Stihl chainsaw display. I didn't get half way there when another friendly woman stopped what she was doing and asked if there was anything she could help me with. (!) I gave her the brief version of my quest for a new Kubota Dealership with a competent Service Department and included that I'd driven down from Kitsap County. Much to my delight, she completely ignored the obvious opportunity for her to name my local Kubota Dealer and/or add additional history to my own dissatisfaction with them. Instead, she told me about J&I Power Equipment's business model and history AND that it was a family run operation for over 75 years. (!) She was clearly a seasoned professional that understood that the very best salesperson never runs downs their competitors but instead can quickly and easily switch the emphasis on to and promote their own companies' accomplishments and virtues. i would never let them touch anything i own ever again!!! i brought in a prefect running generator and asked how much to but in a battery?? i get a call saying i need a carb rebuild for $400 dollars.. i told him """NO"""" dont touch it i just had it running for 6 hrs. with no problem how much just to put in a battery ?? so then i get a call and they say $500 dollars. i said """NO""" the customer cant afford that... so i cam to pic it up they charge me $45.00 dollars for looking at it, i paid the price they then brought me a generator in pieces and said it would cost me $99 dollars an hr. for fix it !!! i was like i told you not to touch the carb!!! he just looked at me and said nothing.. I have to say, J&I certainly can be inconsistent both in terms of sales but definitely in terms of their service department. I purchased my Honda walk behind and my hustler riding mower from them a few years ago and consistently serviced them at J&I. Generally speaking they provide good service but with this last repair I'm fully off purchasing and repairing through them any longer. I took both mowers there this past February for the winter servicing. The Honda walk behind rear wheels had stopped rolling when pulled backwards and the cost of repair along with the other repairs pushed me to buying a new mower. But, as I explained to them, I was heading out on a trip so I'd use it until my return. The one time I used my Honda I discovered it was no longer self propelled. They didn't reassemble the drive belt. But I didn't have time to contact them and take care of it and decided I'd do so upon my return. So I called them today as I just returned from my trip on Tuesday. I explained to the service department what had happened. Had to do so a couple of times emphasizing that when I brought the mower in it was self-propelled but when they returned the mower it no longer was self-propelled. They said since it has been more then thirty days since I brought it in they wouldn't repair it. I re-explained that it was a functional self-propelled mower when they received it, that the suggested repairs had nothing to do with the propulsion system as far as I knew. Nonetheless they held firm on their position that, even though it was functional before they handled it and no longer was self-propelled when they returned it, they were not responsible. Even talked to a salesman there, Greg, and explained what had happened and why I wouldn't be purchasing any other equipment there and he sided with the service department. As I said, this is the kind of inconsistency regarding sales and service that makes J&I sketchy. It's a shame for certain that they cannot be as customer oriented as most businesses in the area. Guess if you're not an "insider" with this business and the family you're not relevant. read more

Got a discount for buying with cash and when they deliver they will spend 45 minutes showing us how to use it! Love this place! read more

Update on worst customer experience ever, Originally took the tractor in to have an electrical issue fixed. Still won't hold a charge. These folks don't have a clue about customer service, or service of any kind... never again. All they did was replace a new battery with a new battery. Didn't fix a damn thing. Also do yourself a favor and take a photo of where your fuel level is. My tractor came back empty. Have never been below 1/4 tank in 5 years of ownership. Do not support this horrible... read more

Purchased 3 machines in 8 months. Traded first tractor in to get the third. Still had a payoff with Kubota credit. J and I was supposed to send payoff in to Kubota. They paid it late. And sent the wrong amount because it was late. When applying for vehicle financing it showed up as not paid. When calling the dealer and speaking to (JESSICA) NO NAMES MENTIONED I was told it wasn't there problem and I'd have to pay it. Seriously? After calling Kubota credit back they ate the cost (due to the dealers f up. Apologized and said have a great day. I want everyone to know this dealer don't give one shit about you or your credit after they make that sale. Period. I will never return. I visited J&I recently because I needed a lawn mower and really didn't want to spend more money at big box retailers with zero customer service. J&I had the same price for Honda mowers as the orange store. Even better, they had great customer service. The staff fueled up, checked the oil and started my mower. We purchased a cub cadet mower 3 years ago for $2,300. The belts break regularly, the drive belt is difficult to change. J&I offered $750 trade in on a 3 year old mower with 68 hours on it. I wish I would had bought a similar mower from a big box store for less $ since they don't stand behind the products they sell anyway. read more

Purchased a tractor and was told tires were ballast. They were not but I will assume responsibility for not checking. Within a year I needed to trade B2320 up for larger 35 plus tractor. Called and got low balled on trade in value. And wanted to give me $500 for brand new land pride brush hog. They also wouldn't give a good deal for the newer tractor. What a joke and they just lost a valued local customers. There are to many local competitors to deal with this service. read more

I've been in the Lacey / Olympia area since 1992 and J&I has been a trusted business you could go to for help, well that is up until today. Today they wronged me. Today was the last day I did business with J&I. I bought a fan belt for my Cub Cadet mower (about a year ago) which runs the deck blades. Today I finally got around to replacing it. As luck would have it, it was the wrong belt. I went down to J&I to get it replaced they looked in their computer and couldn't find where they sold the belt under my phone number. They told me they couldn't do a return because of that. I spoke to a manager Chris and he basically told me the same thing. The reasoning is because the belt can be purchased at other places. You know I get that and I get that many people would take advantage of that situation. Bottom line is this, what other places could I have purchased the belt that would have given me the correct part number and fit? That's why I bought it from J&I because I expected they would have given me the right part. I have bought all my repair parts from J&I so I would have the right stuff with no worry. After speaking to Chris and being told it couldn't be found in the computer and that's that. What rapidly went through my mind was "really" so I guess the Cub Cadet, Stihl chain saw, leaf blower, and the Honda EU2000 I bought through them must not be listed in the computer either. Because, if I was interested in good customer service I would have looked at the stuff I bought over the years to include things like $8 plus per quart for synthetic hydraulic oil and various other parts and then l would have looked at things like returns. I believe I have returned one thing in all those years. As a manager I would have weighed the difference and made the command decision to return the belt and issue the correct one. Because that would have been good customer service. But that didn't happen, so in a fit I left Chris the wrong belt, purchased the correct one and left, for the final time. As a loyal customer and someone who has sent business their way many times over the years, I really feel wronged by them today. My business and my recommendations for them will now go elsewhere. read more

These guys provide the consistently worst product and customer service I've ever experienced. I bought a Honda trimmer there a few years ago but, even though the machine is a great piece of equipment, I wish I'd bought another brand. When the trimmer was nearly new it quit running and I took it to J and I's shop. They had it for over a month before they figured out that it was a faulty fuel cap. The next year when it was not running properly they told me it needed a new carburetor at the cost of ~$200. I took it to an independent shop where they cleaned the carburetor and charged me less than $40. The machine worked perfectly. Unfortunately, they are the only Honda dealer in Thurston County and from time to time I've tried to buy minor parts from them. Almost every time I've had to go there I've received very poor service. If you have Honda equipment I strongly suggest that you go to Tacoma or Tozier Brothers in Shelton for parts and service. read more
