If you're going to go to this office, done not use Nico. She only cares about getting the check and benefiting herself. She does not care about her clients. She is extremely unprofessional, unorganized and honestly quite rude. I have never been so unimpressed with a realtor. Unless you want someone who's going to disappear and ignore your needs as soon as she gets money from you, don't go to her! I cannot believe they let such unprofessional people work at their office who seriously only care about money and not their clients. Avoid her at all costs, she has no idea what she's doing. I do have friends who have used others in the office and really enjoyed it. Just stay away from Nico is all I am saying. read more

Lisa Ventresca is my heroine, and I am not lying. She showed so much care for my girlfriend and I at the time when we were looking for an apartment in Boston, I'm so happy Yelp has given me the opportunity to write about her. The incredible thing is Ron Ventresca, her colleague in the office, actually took time out of his personal schedule to introduce us to the landlords and went over and beyond to smooth things over with them and let them know that we would be good tenants. Lisa and Ron are simply fantastic in every way. Even before we committed to the apartment we ultimately moved into, we were about to sign a lease for another apartment when Lisa could see I wasn't enthused about it. She assured us that she would keep looking for us and I was amazed but expected nothing. That very day, she called and she said it was a steal and a better apartment! I couldn't believe it and for this, I am indebted to Lisa. The apartment we moved to was just down the street from the office and Lisa always remembered us. This is exactly what a "neighborhood' realty company should be about. read more

I am convinced there will never be an easy to work with realty company. They tend to hire people that either have this as a second job and therefor a secondary obligation. I've had quite a few terrible experiences with a lot of the realty companies that set up meetings, no show, don't return calls, and then drop off the face of the earth. Metropolitan on the sliding scale of Realtors have been good to work with. They showed up for our meeting, they showed us apartments in the price range we described (one above, but that's part of the game), and we did not have an issue taking the apartment off market. We did have an issue in getting the Realtor to call us back after we returned forms; I guess text messages work better (pro tip), and we received answers to our questions; better tardy than never. On the sliding scale of realty companies, these guys are preferred for their North End listings. I have used them twice with overall positive experiences compared to the rest of the firms out there which are just egregiously unprofessional. read more

Can't say enough about William. Great guy with longtime connections with landlords. He hooked us up with the most beautiful place - better than we thought we could afford - in less than 48 hours. Negotiated with the landlord on our behalf to get us in the front door with our two cats. Already shared his number with one friend who is looking for housing. Danger, proceed with caution! If you are working with Ryan Foley, please proceed carefully. Ryan acted as a broker on a rental property that he misrepresented himself on the lease as the "landlord." When the property was not ready for occupancy by the promised date ( it was not certified ready for 62 days after promised) he refused to return the deposit, or any of the payments made to him. He continues to act in an unprofessional manner, and has gone to great lengths to keep the money from the young people that signed a lease with him, even so far as legal proceedings that continue to incur additional expenses for the wronged young women. Can't not stress enough how unprofessional this man has been. read more

Arguably the least professional experience I've ever been a part of. Signed the lease March 1st for a June 1st move in. Their team of incompetence promised that renovations would be done by June, and that there was "a lot of potential with the spot." The team consisted of one broker who's name was Ralph. Ralph never once showed up in person, wouldn't speak over the phone, and only sent text messages with grammar that only a struggling 3rd grade student could conjure up. Next was Greg who was Ralph's manager. The only thing that Greg managed was the express lane to the Burger King value menu. He would show up in person but his professional outfit of sweats and a sweatshirt always smelled like Ronald McDonald's grill after a Fourth of July BBQ. Greg showed me the initial tour in March, and then the final tour in May. The only thing that changed from the dump of an apartment were the five bottles of piss on the window that Ralph had been so kind to bless us with. These two gentlemen were Renaissance men; finely tuned instruments of grease and odor, there to ruin your hospitality every step of the journey. Thank you boys! A roomate and I just had a very unpleasant experience through GMRE. Three days ago, we were shown a nice apartment at a great price and signed on it a day later. We were really excited about it - it was a great apartment and we had gone slightly above our price range because we liked it so much. Two days later, we get a phone call telling us there is "bad news" and that there was a "miscommunication" between the landlord and a middleman who gave GMRE the listing and that the rent was actually $1600 and not $1525. This occured conveniently after we had already made the first deposit for the realtor's fee. They did not apologize then, only asked us if we still wanted the apartment. We went down to their offices and tried to get them to negotiate with the landlord or bring down the realtor's fee by a half. They would not do either. Not only that, but they became very defensive when we pointed out that it was their mistake and we are paying them to make sure they give us the right information about something as crucial as the rent rate. In the end, we withdrew our application. Basically I could never trust a company that does not check its facts and then doesn't take responsibility for their mistakes and I will never use their services again. I would definitely not recommend them since they didn't try to address our concerns and just said that there was nothing they could do. read more

I definitely want to give them a great review as well! I've worked with several of the realtors here and have had BY FAR the best experience compared to any other company in the North End. Lisa has been amazing at working with me (totally last minute in some cases) to get a great place that suits my unique needs. I've used GMRE on several occasions and they are the only place I will actually recommend to a friend. They've kept me in the loop with landlords, actually filled out complete and proper paperwork (something I haven't received from other companies), were great at explaining everything, gave great advice and were always easy to reach. I can only hope that in my next city I'll be able to find another place I actually trust! Super pleased overall. read more

I'll admit that I've re-signed a couple of leases just because I dreaded starting an apartment search again, but this year is was finally time to move. After spending plenty of time on Craigslist I was in touch with John at GMRE, who was happy to meet on short notice to show me a couple apartments. The units I saw didn't quite fit what I was looking for, but I was assured he'd keep his eyes open for me. About a week later there was a great place coming on the market on a Saturday, John was more than happy to do some late night scheduling on Friday and show the place very early Saturday morning, because he knew it would go fast. The apartment was gorgeous, in great shape, and very reasonably priced, I signed a lease on the spot! If you're looking for a new place in the North End John at Greater Metro can take all the pain out of the process and help you find just what you're looking for, give him a call! read more

I ended up renting through GMRE, but only because the apartment they showed me was so perfect (and cheap). I am incredibly easy going, but I got only unprofessional service from Lisa, who was making a nice little chunk of change off me. My mom--also one of the most easy going people on the planet--was asking Lisa some basic questions about the place and GMRE's commission/fee structure, and Lisa snapped back something to the effect of "well do you want the apartment or not, you're not going to get it this way." She was on the verge of yelling AT MY MOTHER. I get it, it's the North End and it's full of characters, but her behavior bordered on absurdity. I worked with two realtors, Ryan Foley and Patrick Haritgan, who were stepbrothers. Ryan was the better of the two, but both were just horrible. Patrick did not return calls, lied to us on multiple occasions, was inconsistent about everything. DO NOT work with this individual. Where to begin- these people are not to be trusted (especially if dealing with the North End office). They are unprofessional and lie about apartments. I started an apartment search a few months ago and was shown a number of apartments- the one that I settled on was in a building where the landlord was absent, never addressed my concerns and ultimately I had to terminate my lease early. The entire time GMRE did nothing- they had their money and they were willing to drop me. Find any other realtor/real estate agent- trust me! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS REALTY COMPANY They are horrible. I've had about 3-4 friends who gave me bad reviews and I ignored them to my own dismay. Lisa Ventresca is the worst of them. It seems to me that the 'John D.' reviewer below is just a Greater Metro employee writing a fake review (I mean, who says they are so grateful to Yelp for giving them the opportunity to write about someone anyway... come on..). Even if you DO rent from them.. when it is time for you to leave they do not even call you half the time before they show the apartment... they just barge in whenever they feel like it irrespective of your own comfort in your last month or two at your apartment. As soon as you give notice to your landlord they are at your doorstep like vultures. They are in the end horrible to deal with and you are better off going through another realtor or craigslist. I was personally referred to GMRE through a family friend in an effort to avoid the type of predatory realtor group experiences I had heard of. Unfortunately, the complete lack of help, effort, and sheer professionalism at this company made me feel like I had been robbed. The agent we originally worked with, who is fortunately no longer with the company, was able to find us a place that matched our request. From here on out the experience was terrible. She was difficult to reach, hardly ever responded, and on multiple occasions gave us incorrect information which resulted in several delays. Then she disappeared, no response to emails, phone calls, or texts. After a week of this, with our move-in date under two weeks away and still no signed lease or any sign that the landlord had received our deposit check, I called GMRE main office. While they acknowledged that it was unfortunate we had been left hanging, they were hardly apologetic and seemed to think I was out of line for being upset at the situation. It took the manager all of 2 minutes to find the lease sitting in the old employees drawer, leading me to believe they could have found it two weeks ago BEFORE I became so desperate I had to call and investigate. Again, while the lease was eventually signed (5 days before the move-in date) and we are happily in our apartment with a great landlady, the experience of dealing with this company was simply horrible. I have never had a company, especially where you are paying such a high fee for them to handle the transaction, treat me with such a lack of empathy or concern as a customer. I've had better service at a fast food restaurant. If you can avoid this company, do, and save yourself a lot of sleepless nights and headaches. read more

I moved to Boston to take a new job and I didn't know much about renting here in town. When I got in touch with Greater Metro, they took great care of my roommate and me. I contacted Carmine about one apartment in our price range, and he showed us that one plus several similar ones, so we had a few to choose from. We signed a lease for one of them the same day, and everything went smoothly. The apartment has been great for us--fantastic location. After we signed the lease, Carmine remained friendly and personable, remembering our names and saying hello whenever we passed by the office. He even became someone we could call in a jam. Recently, while I was out of town, I was notified that my car was about to be towed from a spot a couple of blocks away from the Greater Metro office; I called up Carmine just hoping to get some advice, and he offered to move the car for me using a spare key I kept in the apartment. Saved me a headache and some cash. read more

The best realtors in all of Boston. If you want to live in the North End don't even consider going to another realtor. They get more listings than any other North End realtor, actually return your calls/e-mails unlike most realtors, and, most importantly, don't mislead you in their listings like so many other realtors. Shockingly bad! I applied for one of their apartments and had great difficulty communicating with them about the signing of the lease. I called and emailed several times, to no avail. When I finally caught the realtor I was working with in the office, she was rude and unhelpful! i would not use them to lease a dog kennel, let alone an apartment! read more

As a new comer to living in Boston, I really had no idea what I was getting into with a realtor. My roommate happened to stumble upon a listing for what appeared to be a too good to be true apartment. It had everything on our wish list, so we contacted Ron and set up a viewing. First, we were absurdly early for our appointment, but Ron said no problem and brought us to see the apartment. After our first glace in the apartment, we knew we had to have it. After venturing back to GMRE to apply for the apartment, we left thrilled that the search had been extremely easy and painless. But unfortunately thats where the easiness stopped. The landlord, out of town, was incredibly difficult to get a hold of, due to his busy schedule. After quite a few days without hearing anything, we began getting extremely frustrated. Ron, throughout all of this, gave us daily updates about his contact with the landlord, as well as assuring us he would work with us to make sure we had a place to live. After a week of back and forth, we finally had the decision we were looking for! Ron was beyond belief helpful and if I ever need another place in Boston, I'll be sure to give GMRE a call! read more

Upon receiving a phonecall from this company I was left a 30 minute time frame for their notice. I called back and Lisa answered. I was attempting to explain that it would not be able to be shown until 2. She immediately became argumentative. She was extremely condescending and did not make a professional conversation an easy one. Her quick remarks regarding my landlord and my relationship were completely unnecessary. She believed reasonable time period is within a half hour. If I needed until 2 and there should have been no question or debate. The handling of this business is between cousins and siblings which makes it near impossible to issue a proper complaint. The way Lisa spoke to me and continued to call and harass me was intolerable. I would never recommend lisa as a realtor to work with. read more

This was the worst experience ever. These people are clowns and are very unprofessional. Lisa was our realtor and just quit and we didn't find out until move in week. She hadn't even finalized our leases, contacted the landlord regarding move in day and lost our entire folder. We had to start from scratch and re do everything. They only care about commissions and are not good people. They also do not return phone calls as they simply just don't care. Incredibly disappointed and will NEVER refer anyone to these clowns. Trying to move to the North End and not spend a fortune on rent isn't easy, but thanks to GMRE, I managed to do it and I'm loving my new place. I found a listing on craigslist and sent an email to indicate my interest. At this point in time I was trying to view several places and all of the other realtors had been rude or ignored me. Not Carmine. Not only did he get right back to me, but he was professional, personable, and he showed me exactly what I wanted. I was shown nice units in my price range and he gave me the run down, good and bad for each place. He was so wonderful to work with. Even after all of the paperwork was done, he was a great resource for all things related to my North End move and saved me some time and a huge headache when it came to moving in. The apartment I'm in is fabulous, exactly right for me and in a wonderful location. And Carmine is still just as friendly as ever, always saying hello if I happen to see him around the neighborhood, remembering my name. I really enjoyed working with GMRE, they made moving so much better, were punctual, and worked hard to get things just right for me. I definitely recommend using them, particularly Carmine! read more
