We previously used GPP for a simple sink repair. This time, we used them for two toilet installations and a bidet attachment install. The techs were very nice, especially the younger apprentice who came and made our dog much more reassured, as he sometimes gets nervous and barks incessantly when strangers are in our home. What we didn't like was the fact that we were automatically entered into their $97/year "savings" program. When we questioned why our receipt didn't reflect the alleged discount, we were told that firstly, our tech entered us into the savings program to save $300. We asked why the total didn't reflect that and were told that the discount was taken out on the receipt, yet they don't show you what it is. If that is true, two toilet installs, a valve replacement and bidet attachment install was nearly $2,000. It also took 5 days to receive the said receipt. Original Review: Ryan, the technician, did a great job replacing my water heater on August 8, 2025. The one star is for being charged twice, once for $1156.56 at 1:15pm and then for $1099 at 2:13pm on August 8th for a water heater that was supposed to cost $1099, and for being gaslit by two people after calling twice to report the double-charge and sending a photo of a screenshot of my bank transactions clearly showing that I was charged twice. On August 8, 2025, at 10:35 am, a technician from Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing was dispatched to my home for a leaking water heater and suspicion of leaking pipes due to some water damage to ceiling tiles in my basement. I paid the dispatch fee of $59.00 from my checking account using my debit card on July 18, 2025. Thankfully, the water damage was old, so I only needed a replacement water heater. I agreed to have my water heater replaced for the price of $1099. The water heater was replaced, and Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing charged my debit card for $1156.56 at 1:15 pm, which was the time that the job was complete. I thought the total may have included the dispatch fee (I forgot I paid this in July) or tax, so I wasn't alarmed that the charge was $56.56 over the $1099 price I was quoted. Then, my card was charged again for $1099 at 2:13 pm for one gas water heater that was supposed to cost $1099. Because both are pending transactions, I was directed by my bank to contact the vendor. When I called, I was gaslit by two different people, who told me I must be mistaken because they don't have the capability to double-charge, blamed my bank, and suggested I dispute the transaction as my only recourse. I called Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing at 2:36 pm, as soon as I saw that I was charged $1099 as a second charge, and spoke to Madison, explaining that I had been charged twice for the water. Madison proceeded to gaslight me, stating that the company can't double-charge and requested I email a picture of my pending transactions. I emailed a picture of my pending transactions, as requested (see photo). Hailey, who answered the second time I called, confirmed that she received and could view the picture, but still proceeded to tell me that Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing cannot double-charge me. She then blamed my bank and told me I could dispute the transaction. I informed Hailey that the transaction information was identical for both charges. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I will update my review if the BBB complaint is addressed by Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing. Update 8.15.2025: Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing addressed my BBB complaint and refunded the additional $1156.56 charge on August 13th. We've all had some bad experiences with contractors, but what we experienced with Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing was the most shocking form of abuse we've seen. This company preys on the desperation that people experience when their HVAC systems fail. They use a classic trap: They take your money, perform some diagnostics, tell you they'll fix it in a certain timeframe, and then demand more money before they can even tell you when the work will be completed. We're providing clear details here in the hopes that readers won't get sucked into this trap. 10AM on a Thursday: We walk into our commercial building to find that our rooftop HVAC unit is powered on and warm, but it's not blowing any heat through the building. We call Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing, and they tell us they have a technician that will call us as soon as they're finished with the call they're on. They require a $200 deposit be paid immediately for the service. It's frustrating to have to pay a deposit up front, but we're desperate. 3PM: We call this company back. They say that the technician is still on the call. They can't give an estimate of when this call will be finished, but assure us that they will get there today. Ok, frustrating, but somewhat understandable. 4PM: We get a call that the tech is on his way. 4:45PM: Tech arrives and starts diagnosing. 5:30PM: Tech comes down and shows us a broken belt. Also tells us that two capacitors should be replaced. Says he'll need to order the belt. Says he'll send an estimate tonight, and if approved, he will be back the following day to replace it. I press him on this, and he verbally guarantees that it will get done the next day. Since we don't have any choice, we agree to move forward. 6:30PM: We receive an estimate for the work as previously described for $883. While this seems high, we don't have any real reference points, and we need heat, so we approve the estimate. The trap is set. Now is when Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing decides to trip it. Next day, 8AM: We call the company back to find out when they'll be coming out. They tell us they still need to order the part. They won't be able to determine when it will come in until they place the order, but they also won't place the order until we give them a 1/3 deposit on the total work. Imagine yourself in this situation: You are without heat. You spend $200 to start the process of getting it fixed. Someone comes out, tells you what's wrong, and says they'll be able to fix it the next day. You don't bother finding another contractor in the meantime because it's going to get fixed. The next day they tell you that they won't be able to tell you when they can fix it until you give them more money. You know damned well that if you give them your money, you'll be in their hands, and you'll be at the bottom of their work queue, because they know they have you trapped. So here we are: We're out $200, we've had a full day without heat, and we're absolutely no closer to having our HVAC system repaired. We'll obviously survive, but we'll make sure that everyone we know avoids these crooks. read more

Deeply Disappointed with Service and Accountability I'm extremely disappointed with Greater Pittsburgh Heating & Plumbing. They cancelled my original service appointment, which already threw off my schedule. When they finally came out for the annual AC maintenance, everything seemed fine--until immediately after, the unit stopped working. I called back right away, assuming they'd stand behind their work. But instead of making it right, they tried to charge me an emergency service fee just to look at the problem they likely caused. I have used GPP for the last several years at two of my properties and always had pleasant experiences. I scheduled a technician to replace a toilet valve. It is still not flushing properly and they will not send another technician out to fix the previous one's mistake without the $60 dispatch fee. The consumer should not eat the cost to dispatch another technician to fix a prior one's mistake. The technician who first came admitted he was new to the company and was very unprofessional accompanied by ethnic slurs. I have filed a report with the BBB and they will swiftly address. I asked them to look at my low supply of hot water. I of course looked up what could be potential issues and fixes. Heating element, dip tube, sensor, buildup of sediment. Looking at the water heater myself I was not sure I would want to pull out my copper piping. So, plumber. $59 dispatch fee, they called to say that they wouldn't make the appointed time and would be late and would call before they head over. That's fine. I'm working from home so I'm in with a customer when my door gets a knock. OK I guess the plumber is here. I re-explained my issue, they say you probably need a new water heater. I said well what about all of these things that could be the potential cause I wanted you guys to look at that so I could try and not have to replace the entire water heater. They walk in and take one look at the water heater, " yeah you need a new water heater" Sure it's from 2009 but I once again pointed out that it could be these other things. Nope, he tells me. Definitely need a new water heater. This one's a Home Depot special. I get quoted $1500 for a new water heater and they walk out the door. The entire interaction was less than maybe 10 minutes. HOWEVER, the LAST time they came to my home, their plumber BROKE a PVC pipe leading from my water filter to the interior pressure valve. This was AFTER they broke the main valve OUTSIDE which required PAWC to come in and fix! We ended up with 2.5" of H20 in a 20' diameter on my NEW basement flooring. We now have to replace my NEW flooring, plus we were forced to spend $2800 just to FIX the plumbing problem that they caused in the first place! We had to call ANOTHER company to fix this because GPP only has 24/7 care for their VALUED customers, apparently (despite the fact that I had spent $1000's of dollars with them previously to fix some major problems in the past). They argued with us over who did what to the pipe and tried to claim that it was Leaf Filter's fault. Leaf told us that they NEVER use propress -- only PVC. Period. They also that 'you aren't allowed to use PVC for cold water' -- which is a fallacy in Allegheny County. (I looked it up!) And...did they take responsibility for using a propress and copper pipe on a the inside of a PVC pipe which caused it to crack and flood my basement when it SHOULD have been applied from the OUTSIDE and WITHOUT the propress?! The potential buyers on our house hired this company to do their sewer inspection. While I never even received the sewer inspection report or camera scope that was "allegedly" performed, I did receive a quote to repair my sewer which amounted to ~$10k. The quote said that many parts of the line were broken and they couldn't get past a break to get to the public line. To say it was a huge shock is an understatement. I hired Krupp Whitney to meet me at the house to perform an inspection just to be sure (and ideally to get a second quote for the repair). Well, to my pleasant surprise there was absolutely nothing wrong with my sewer line. The technician easily made it all the way to the main sewer tie in. There were no visable breaks or issues. How in the world can one company say my line is broken in many places and another show me that that isn't at all the case. Something is rotten with this company. I wouldn't trust them. At the very least if you hire them get a second opinion. I would say they are simply incompetent, but the fact that they never provided a camera scope footage leads me to believe they're simply deceptive. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. They rebuilt my entire kitchen sink piping in March of 2022 for $700. Less than two years later it is leaking again and they told me they warrant nothing beyond a year and would charge me $99 to come look at it, which goes toward none of the work- just to get someone out. And would then charge me whatever needed to fix it. For the work they did and the money spent, this sink should not be leaking again less than two years later. They quoted us thousands of dollars out of pocket to fix it. After they left, we called Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing for a second opinion. I worked with Kelsey and she had someone at our house the same day. They fixed our leak for a fraction of what the other company quoted us. The two guys that came were professional, courteous and went above and beyond even helping us with our garbage disposal as well before leaving. I bought a home that had the sewer line relined by Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing after a pre-closing inspection. I was told that the work was guaranteed. Slightly over a year later I was having sewage backing up into my basement through the floor drain. I contacted Greater Pittsburgh plumbing, who told me they could have someone out the following day but only after paying a $59.00 "dispatch fee". When I said that they had previously done work on the line that was supposed to be guaranteed I was told that if the issue is in the area of their repair the dispatch fee would be refunded. Their service person, Isaiah came out the following day and as it turns out there was a blockage in the trap they replaced. Isaiah told me that since the blockage was in the repair they had done I wouldn't be charged. After clearing the blockage he ran water through the line and then ran the camera through to insure there were no other issues out to the street. I then get Greater Pittsburgh Plumbings invoice for the $59.00. I contacted them explaining the issue was in the area of their repair and that I was assured the $59.00 would be refunded. I was told a manager was not available and that someone would contact me the following day, which was a Friday. Needless to say no one contacted me and since then I have been told the manager would not refund the $59.00 because they ran the camera "which (they) didn't have to do". I argued the camera was run to insure no other issues, that the issue that was there was in the area they repaired which is supposed to be guaranteed. Still no manager has contacted me and I had to pay $59.00 for guaranteed work. Basically Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing guarantees there work for $59.00 a shot! They won't send someone out to even look to see if your issue is something that they repaired or not without paying them a $59.00 "dispatch fee", and once they have that you'll never see it again, even if it is something they "guarantee"!!! Before moving forward we called Greater Pgh for an estimate and are so glad we did. Stan came out and took a conservative approach to first attempt to snake the line. Stan and his team were able to snake the line, remove the roots and place a liner all for a reasonable price. The first plumber was clearly going to nickel and dime us and cause unnecessary work and damage to our home. Stan and his team were able to get the work done within days. I scheduled my sewer cam inspection for a house I am buying, and scheduling was easy, about a week out, and they have the ability to bring water to the property (which we needed since the water was turned off). The worker was a couple minutes late, but who isn't, and completed the inspection quickly and didn't have to use the water. I received my report and video within the day, and the real kicker was they refunded me the extra fee for the water since they didn't have to use it! read more

This company was used by the buyers of our home for inspection and clean out. as you can imagine this is a high stress, need to be done in a timely manner situation. Initial inspection was done where turbo cleanout and re-inspection was recommended these are the events that followed. -Friday: GPP (two employees) for turboclean followed by camera inspection. Verbally advised by gpp employee that the lines look good, only issue is slight pipe sinkage around 35 ft, stated to be a minor issue. -Monday 11/1: Contacted company at 1pm for report and videos. Company stated that they would get them to us as soon as they could. -Tuesday 11/2: Contacted company for videos and report. Company stated that they have 1-3 days to provide a report and video. -Wednesday 11/3: AM: Contacted company for videos and report. Company stated that we would have videos and reports by the end of the day. PM: Company contacted us stating that they "lost the video from Friday, it is corrupt" and they cannot review the video and give a report. They will have "Stan" come out in the morning to re-camera/inspect the line. Thursday 11/4: AM: Company member other than Stan comes to camera inspect the line. States issues with line, does not expand but "we'll take care of it". At this point I contacted GPP to speak with a manger to discuss the discrepancies between the verbal report we were given after the turbo cleaning vs today. The manager stated "don't listen to him" (employee that performed inspection), he doesn't review the video, Stan does. She was also aware that there was slight sinkage of the pipe at 35-38 feet but did not see anything else mentioned, she was aware of this issue, even without the video. She advised that she would call back prior to getting off for the afternoon at 2p, but did not call back. PM: Stan calls to review video. States that there are issues with lines-does not go into detail. Stan states that he will write up a report. Videos sent at 7p, no report sent. Friday 11/5: Estimate for large Amy emailed to us by the company. No report. When we contacted them for a report, we were emailed the report from the very first camera inspection of the line done with the buyers. Eventually, after calling back that day, we were sent a report. We ended up paying for another inspection of the lines from another company because we could not trust the work done by GPP. I would never recommend this company. read more

This company gets good reviews but don't be fooled. I called them when my tenant lost access to their toilet the day after Christmas. They charged me $150 to "be there that night" only to not show up until the next morning on 12/27. Then, the plumber told my tenant that it was too cold to make the repairs that night. When I called them back they said that their first opening was "between 8 and 9 on Friday 12/30". The morning of 12/30 at about 10 AM my tenant called to say they hadn't arrived. I called the office to be told "well, whoever told you it was an A.M. appointment shouldn't have said that". Great. So when are they coming? "I have no way of knowing, he's all over the place" (what am I dumb, doesn't the guy have a cell phone?). Then my husband called and they told him it would probably be mid-day. Didn't hear from anyone by 3:30 PM on the 30th, so I had to call them. "He'll be there, he's running late on a job". The plumber then calls my husband, asks for the phone number of my tenant, then calls my tenant and says since "they have running water" he won't be there until Monday 1/2. (Turns out this was also false as the receptionist later informed me that they are closed Monday). One good thing is that they agreed to refund my deposit, but it has been a terrible experience overall. Classic case of "they have you by the #$%$" so they don't care about your experience read more

The worst service I've ever had from any provider. Derrick, the "plumber" they sent out, started complaining from the minute he pulled into the wrong driveway. He complained the entire time he was here even though several times I told him that if he didn't want to do the job he was free to leave. He pretended to snake my shower drain, but was unable to do so and rather than trying anything else, he left. He charged me for the nothing he did. (Oh, he did break my plunger which I had to replace.) He clearly did not know what he was doing. He mentioned calling his boss for advice, and then said that he needed to get on to other jobs. I paid the $59 booking fee plus $221 for Derrick to snake MAYBE 3 inches of the drain. He left, and I was left with a shower drain that was worse than ever. I'd really like to have my money back. When I got a real plumber in here, it turns out my drain, trap and lines need to be replaced. When Derrick walked in the door, he immediately said he could SMELL a hair clog - WHAT??? This company was recommended by my son who'd had a good experience with different employees, but now we are both telling everyone to stay away from this company. read more

Based on recommendation of someone I trust, we hired Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing to install a sump pump. While it's not been tested by a flood (yet), I think the work was very well done and I expect it to work once flood-tested. Mike, who led the project, is really good. He's clearly an expert at spec'ing and installing sump systems and he spec'd out the work. And Blake and Nick who dug out the sump pit and installed the drain piping were also very good. I'm happy with the work. I think Mike is super and Blake and Nick were great. I'd be happy to work with them again. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for three things about how their office/planning works. (1) They sent out an electronic bid which I accepted and paid deposit online. And then nothing... Two weeks later, I called and said I accepted and paid and got email confirmation through their online system and was waiting to hear about planned work schedule. They said, "oh, we expected you to call us. We'll go ahead and schedule you now." And they gave me a work date and start time on that date. Guess I lost two weeks not knowing to call to schedule right after accepting and paying electronically. (2) I communicated the work date and start time to the tenant who made arrangements to work offsite while jack hammering was going on. Come the date+time no one showed up so I called Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing and they said, "yeah, we can't get to you today, we think we can be there tomorrow 8am, but call us around 7:15am tomorrow to be sure." When I called the second day, they said "Not today but we think tomorrow." I called each day at 7:15am for another 3-4 days, each day delaying another day and making new arrangements with the tenant. After just under a week, they said they'd be out that day mid-day and they did indeed come mid-day. The next morning, I got a text (at least I didn't have to call) from a crew member saying the crew had to go somewhere else that and couldn't work our job that day (I went through another reschedule with tenant that day). The job was finished the third day, taking 1 1/2 days to complete. My tenant grew (understandably) frustrated through this whole process. (3) This is very minor, almost petty perhaps, but we paid $50 for an estimate and that wasn't credited back on a job was greater than $4K. That's their practice, but it just felt wrong. Because their work was good, I'd be willing to work through some of these hassles now that I know how their office+planning "system" works. Was a bit painful learning these things on-the-fly, especially managing it all with a tenant. read more

I had a dye test done 3/5/2021. Storm drain were not included.The French drain from another company was wrong. So I immediately failed test. This company wrote me a estimate to redo the French drains and was told they would do the rest of the test when they come back for neighbors house and/or corrected drains. I have no test results in hand only $3600 estimate.I also called days after because the dye was still in downspout. I was concerned about something was blocking lines.In order to find out if something needed snaked. I was not given an estimate to snake the drain only a $49 or $59 service call charge that had to be paid up front.I may have agreed to service charge if it went to the price of work done. If I paid $100 last week and had nothing but a new French drain estimate and told the rest of the test is inconclusive. It would be done at a later date. I guess after paying $3600. No one have ever followed up to find out if problem was corrected to finish the part of the test I didn't received. I had a sump pump installed and the drain rerouted from the company that warrantied the original drain. Just put it this way. I lost $100 because I'm basically at starting point. No test results or rescheduling to complete the failed test.I do not pay $60 to be on someone's schedule to only find out there will only will be another estimate of $3600 plus a rough estimate of $250 on top of $60 to see why dye water haven't receded No thank you. read more

They really took the time to diagnose the issue and explain exactly what was happening so that I was completely comfortable with their approach. Ky was great! My home warranty company was unable to provide me with someone to service a broken seal on our toilet that was leaking through the floor into the basement. Of course it was late on a saturday night and is our only bathroom in the house. I called around midnight and he answered right away and was out at 8am sharp on sunday. Not only did he fix the seal he also replaced the pump in the tank that was old in just a matter of ten minutes. From him getting to the house, diagnosing the problem, dealing with the claim service on the phone for the home warranty, doing the work and leaving it was only 45minutes.
