It's a cute little place carrying mostly non-perishables from Eastern Europe (mostly Bosnia) - hundreds of varieties of imported cookies, chocolates and sweets, dozens of smoked meats, tinned and preserved fishes, cleaning supplies, CDs and DVDs, etc. And a few perishable I haven't seen anywhere else nearby (theres a cheese and butter spread laced with yellow peppers I'm crazy for that you must try to understand how good it is). They seem to work closely witht he restaurant, Ukus, on supplies. I probably missed some items of interest because the store was bustling with locals shopping and socializing, and because I struck up a conversation about music with one of the customers and got a few free lessons on singing one of my favorite Bosnian songs. She saw my reservations about trying the cardamom coffee and looked to see if they had any I could sample. Unfortunately they didn't but her genuine concern and kindness won me over to take a chance. I hadn't been to this store in about 5 years and I'm glad it's still there in light of how Brooklyn is changing. To find something though, it is helpful to have something in mind and to ask the Syrian owner for it, usually you'll see him being quiet behind a counter (he's a nice man who has been holding his business through what seems to be generations) - as it can be mind-boggling to figure out where to look or find a product on your own. After all, it is an old-school Middle Eastern store from yesteryear and it'll even feel like a dusty old bookstore in a sense, where you might find a magical book that opens you into a fairytale world (but obviously not). They have olives, canned products, bottled products, nuts, - pretty much anything for your Middle Eastern journey in the kitchen. But yes, they have Middle Eastern sweets, in the back along the right side - mostly in the dessert case. You can also always ask for them.

Step up a couple of stairs from the produce section and you'll be in the seafood section. The market was very neat and organized and it looked very clean. All that said, do not expect a ton of selection here. Their brand diversity was fairly limited which is no big surprise given the relatively small space for a supermarket. From what I saw the prices here were average and not particularly expensive or cheap. If you're in the area this is a good spot to grab some groceries. You may not have the widest selection available to you, but it will do in a pinch!

The selection isn't going to wow any seasoned shopper in these parts, but it has all the basic areas taken care of. It's also a little bigger than it looks from the outside. In any other western supermarket, this would be a C-Town or Key Foods, but what they have is comparable to things I'd find out in semi-nearby Elmhurst. The meat selection / butcher area has some pretty solid prices for beef bones, shanks, and organ meats. I also think the seafood section and the slabs of fish they have daily is somewhat impressive given how light it is crowd wise. Their produce feels limited, but I think it's better to look in the morning for things like watercress, snowpeas, etc, before it runs out. Overall, I think they bring a lot of value to the hood. Not just in terms of affordability, but they do it better than a lot of their nearby competition. Service seems fine overall and I like that the store is clean and organized.
