Even if the food wasn't as fantastic as it was I would have given this place five stars. There is a lovely couple from Greece AJ and Athena working the restaurant by themselves. It was very busy and they took exceptional care of every table. They worked so hard to make sure everyone had amazing dining experience. Every single table around us as they laughed mentioned how great of an experience they had. We didn't know exactly what we wanted an AJ recommended the Zeus platter. It was phenomenal. It had everything you could imagine plus more. There was an amazing succulent pork souvlaki, a nice spice grilled sausage, fall off the bone but not mushy in anyway braised ribs, meatballs that were packed full of flavor, Greek rice and possibly the most fresh Greek salad I have ever had. We were treated to a nice table side flaming souvlaki show! Even though we are super stuffed we made room for dessert. We had the vanilla bean gelato and a pistachio cheesecake. Food was below average. The portions were small, not very flavorful, and pricey. The service was friendly, but awkward (understatement). Made us feel weird throughout our meal. The atmosphere was okay, but with the other factors, the best part of the experience was the authentic music. As for 'gluten free' options, there are a few. However, they were 'gluten friendly' not 'free' and there were not many. They weren't labeled on the menu, so had to ask about each item. We ordered: - Caesar Salad - tasted really good - Spanokopita - 5 little cheese spinach triangles, served very warm with a nice tomato sauce - Shrimp Skillet - Sautéed tiger prawns with diced tomatoes, red onion, capers, oregano & Greek feta cheese - this was such a yummy dish - I'll make sure that I would some pita to sop up this wonderful sauce. - Gnocchi Poutine - fried gnocchi with cheese curds drizzled in demi-glaze - quite tasty - Scallop Avocado - seared scallops over avocado mousse & crispy tortilla - I like this tapas dish! Ordered from uber eats and wasted my money on some of the worst food I had in Calgary. The calamari was cold and didn't seem cooked at all. The lamb didn't seem cooked and the seasoning was way too heavy and it was gross to taste. Made me sick. When we walked in the restaurant we noticed there are two seating sections: one was completely empty & had a guy behind a piano playing music while the other section was where all the customers were seated. Anyway, that was a little weird but you could still hear the live music quite well. The orders were placed & the wine was poured & as the food kept coming, the smiles got bigger & bigger. My only drawback to this place is that some of the portions, and notice I say some, were little small. The food was good specially the scallop avocado. Also the coffee & desserts were to perfection. I have heard of this place a couple time but had never checked it out, but I'm glad I finally did! On the outside it doesn't look like much, but it has a classy vibe inside. It was not very busy when I went, even though it was a Friday evening at dinner. We had the charcuterie board and flaming cheese, both amazing. Have rolled by this restaurant a few times and was always curious as to what it was all about. I did not realize until I entered that it is attached to Toscana Italian Grill - some menu items are available in the Wine Bar. My wife and I were looking for an afternoon nibble and a couple drinks and this turned into an afternoon and evening of great wine, great food, great service and atmosfera! Initially, we were the only ones in the place - choice of seats! Our server was friendly conversational. He answered all our questions about the menu, wine selection and generally how the establishment "runs." We ordered a variety of tapas - ranging from saganaki to seafood to chicken lollipops. Each tapas was delicious in its own right, but the combination of several made up an excellent meal! All these paired with a couple of bottles of Chianti made for a fantastic evening. Thankfully, it got more busy as the afternoon slid into evening - and being November the sun set early so that the restaurant got a bit darker - creating the atmosfera! I was particularly impressed that the owner stopped by our table to introduce himself and we had an engaging conversation about the excellent food and service. This is a rare thing in the restaurant business these days. The tapas here are not the $5 variety that I overheard someone comment to their friend that they had found in somewhere else. Went to the Greek Next Door for dinner tonite. Menu has changed a bit and the new manager, MJ, was really attentive to all the guests. We ordered the baked feta for an appetizer which was really good with a side of pita. We shared the Zeus Platter for two which was really more than enough for two good eaters! The pork souvlaki skewer was delicious, as was the Greek ribs, sausage and meatballs. The tzatiki ligh and so tasty, small Greek salad perfect. An excellent experience was had by all as far as I could tell. I think my caricature drawing feature had something to do with it! Also, the bigger and most important feature at any dining establishment is the hired help. I have to say that Daniel and Ayrann were both super waitresses, and never once took on the role of 'hired help.' Instead I was constantly wondering which one was the owner. A friend and I went to Next Door Wine Bar for dinner with a groupon that I had purchased. The groupon included a bottle of wine and the Chef's board. On top of that we ordered the Arancini, Flaming Cheese, Bruschetta Flatbread, and Beet Salad. All in all the meal was pretty average with the highlights being the Chef's board and the Bruschetta Flatbread. The service was very attentive, although they did bring all of our dishes out at the same time which kind of bothers me but that's not a big deal. My dad had his 60th birthday/retirement party here. We had half of the space to ourselves and had a dedicated bartender and server for the 30-40 of us. There was enough space to stand and mingle before dinner even with the tables set for dinner. I'm a first time customer of Greek Next Door. The food was average however my only beef was that the price for what you receive is about 20-25% too high. $18 for pita and tzaziki! Been meaning to try this restaurant for a long time. What a great experience. We've never ate tapas before and was a bit apprehensive. We early and we're greeted to $5 appys. We ordered serval different appys to try between the two of us. Everything we tried was very good. The Sauce on the chicken lollipops was awesome. The house red was delicious. Took a Groupon platter and bottle of wine deal, and three people for dinner. Service wasn't the best - we were seated promptly and the coupon taken to get the platter underway, but the beer we ordered sat on the bar for ten minutes while everyone walked past it, and I eventually went and got it myself. We'd said when we were seated we were going to order more food than the deal, but the waiter didn't come near us for quite a while, and when he did and I asked my parents if they wanted to order, he turned and walked away ... ??? I wasn't super impressed by now and would have left, but we decided to stick it out and finally ordered pasta, which to their credit, was wonderful. Maybe it was just the fact that it was a Monday, and there were only three staff working for about a dozen tables, that made the service slow. I have zero complaints about the food or the bottle of wine, both delicious. Prices were very reasonable ($18 for a big pasta dish). If you're an Italian fan, I can recommend. read more

My wife and I were looking for something a little different with really good food. Hard to find outside of downtown Calgary and yet here is a hidden gem at Heritage and Macleod Trail south. Quiet ambience with a nice decor, comfortable chairs and relaxed feel. Started with Arabata salad - nice light balsamic dressing. My wife had the flaming Saganiki - excellent. Ordered the rabbit and polenta special - amazing! My wife had the seafood platter - a huge selection of seafood in a very tasty sauce. Finished off with a Tiramisu. "Hidden gem" (as one of the previous reviewers put it) is the best description I can think of for this place! Russell greeted my companion and I by name when we got to the door and was thoroughly attentive for our whole visit, usually anticipating what we were about to ask for. He said that he serves at a restaurant because he loves making sure people enjoy themselves, and it shows. The food (we ordered from the tapas menu) was simple, full of flavour, and artfully presented. I look forward to the next time I go here. read more

The food here is awesome so 2 stars for that! But the service wasn't very professional. I went to a birthday here and the staff was pretty rude. They didn't make us feel welcomed and acted as though we were an inconvenience. At the end when everyone was leaving. I overheard my friend who had organized the event making sure she would get her $200 deposit back since everyone cleared up their tab. They agreed. Only to come back today saying she didn't have everyone show up and they normally charge 1500 to for room rentals (we didn't have a room. Just a bunch of tables) and attached some event package she had never recieved before. I don't know who would pay 1500 for this place. Took my parents here for dinner the Thursday after mother's day. Pros: - our waitress was friendly and polite - some of the food was quite good, the calamari, the gambertti and the shrimp saganaki all had great flavors and the seafood was cooked perfectly. Cons: - the service was very slow. From when we walked in and were sat it took 20 minutes to get a drink. It was obvious that our waitress was the only one working on the wine bar side and I doubt she was getting any help from the other staff. - The other staff working, excluding our waitress, were borderline rude. When we walked in we were stared at by unfriendly faces. The other server that dropped off our food scowled at my mother when she asked for tatziki for the calamari, didn't say a word in response and marched away... we never got the tatziki from her and asked our own server when she came by. Keep in mind it was supposed to come with the dish... - my mother had the charcutrie board and one of the meats was a smoked sausage that was terrible. It was inedible, I tried a bite and I couldn't even chew it. - I had the arancini and it was tasteless and soggy as opposed to crunchy. Bottom line: I wouldn't go back here. There are other restaurants in the city that do tapas and it's much better. read more
