Whoa. This place is succulent city…read more My friend is getting married in a couple of weeks and is making her own bouquets and arrangements for the tables (yes, she's crazy). She tracked down Greenworld because they sell their cuttings at much cheaper prices than you'd find at a florist. On Saturday morning, four of us hopped in a car stocked with Isles puppy dog tails and coffee and shlepped ourselves to North Branch to check it out and pick out which cuttings she wanted for the arrangements. You have to make an appointment during their off-season---they are not open to the public otherwise. I've NEVER seen so many succulents in one place. Mainly, the greenhouse is full of hundreds of kinds that I had never seen ever. Strange rose-mimicking plants, bright orange and purple colors, furry friends, snowball cacti... and a new kind of aloe plant that looks like a cylon basestar (nerd alert). See photo: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/greenworld-greenhouse-north-branch?select=TLWUoAhWW9BCHHh4jCkTIg#TLWUoAhWW9BCHHh4jCkTIg The owner is super chatty, but also informative about how to take care of the plants and when would be the earliest to put the bouquets together. For example, did you know that you are supposed to clip succulents fairly often and then replant the clippings. Otherwise some of them just get tall and sad. He was nice enough to make cuttings for a wedding inspiration board, so to speak. We messed around with combinations of different plants for a while and then let him know what the plan was. After that, I roamed the aisles again and picked our some new additions to my own succulent family (I've covered my whole bay windowsill with them). I picked our four good size plants that were only $5 each and not things you'd typically see in a store. Normally, they do accept credit cards, but it's cash or check during the off-season. The cylon plant has shown no signs of attacking the other plants, but there are many copies... and they have a plan.

5 stars! This is my…read morenew favorite plant nursery! Today was my first visit and I was very impressed. The main building has a lot of books...native plant identification, plant husbandry, cooking with native plants, Minnesota birds...and much, much more. They also sell bulk seed of native grasses, gifts, and crafts. Outside they have 4 primary plant areas. One has native (sand loving) full sun prairie plants, one has shade loving woodland plants, one has boggy water loving plants, and finally, behind the building, they have a big area with native trees & shrubs. Every area is well labeled with the scientific Latin name, the common name, and bullet points about the plant and its growing requirements. I hung out in the "retail" areas. But they also have a giant commercial design, installation, and planting business. I haven't used this service so I can't comment on this aspect of the business other than you can see acres & acres of stuff. There's definitely a lot going on. Finally, the staff members were all very, very knowledgeable and friendly. I really enjoyed talking with them. I made a small purchase of two species of Milkweed. Since it's late in the year, I didn't go crazy with purchases. But I'll definitely come back. A big thumbs up! -Maxx

You may as well set your money on fire or give it to charity. Dealing with this company is a total…read morewaste of time and money. 5 years in and all we have to show for it is an abundance of weeds. We had over an acre converted in 2021 and from the start it looked bad. They kept telling us to give it 2-3 years and we believed them and spent thousands and thousands of dollars. Last year they didn't do any maintenance even though we signed a maintenance agreement. This year they are not responding to calls and e-mails at all. Finally got a second opinion and they told us what we knew all along...this is bad. They would be ashamed if any of their installations looked like ours. My advice is to save yourself time and money and choose someone that actually knows what they are doing. I should point their talent at gaslighting. For a few years they told us convincingly it looks good and it's supposed to look like that. In the end though it still just thistles and weeds!

Gordon's Greenhouse is one of the best greenhouses in the northwest suburbs!…read more This nursery is somewhat of an icon in the northwest burbs. And they've been around a long time. I was a little shocked to see that there were no Yelp reviews yet. If you're looking for a nursery with a huge variety of beautiful plants -- this is it. 1) They also have interesting, unusual, and rare varieties. 2) The plants are well cared for and beautiful. 3) The prices are all reasonable. 4) Veteran owned! Support a local business and a vet. I counted at least 8 greenhouses. Not all of them are open to the public. It depends on when you get there during the season and what's going on. They also have a gigantic quantity and variety of mulch. My only gripe is the payment procedure. The payment area is not clear. It's inside the 2nd, south side (or left side) greenhouse. When it's busy, it's confusing. There's no clear area for waiting & forming a line, and the workers seemed a little overwhelmed. I was there yesterday and there were 3 ladies hopping around, confused, ringing people up out of order. Stop by if you're in the area (in season). You won't regret it. -Daddy Maxx Retro
