Tucked away in a little alley, this small "hole-in-the-wall" cafe is a hidden gem. I got a veggie breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. The eggs were light and fluffy, the cheese was soft and smoky, and the sourdough bread was chewy but also toasty. The sandwich was quite big. I wasn't sure I would finish it, but quickly did after the first bite. The hours at this cafe are variable. They do not have a website listing the hours, and Google and Yelp cannot consistently keep up with their hours as they change on a whim. Currently, the hours listed on their board says Monday-Friday 8:30AM-3:00PM, but it was not open this past Monday when I walked by. They serve breakfast from 8:30AM-10:30AM and lunch 12PM-3:00PM. It was about time I upgraded my review of Green Bench Café from four stars to five stars. OK the sandwiches are excellent, I've established that. But today I went for salad box, which is 5 EUR. There are normally four salads to choose from and you also get a bit of meat on top, with a bit of dressing included in the corner for good measure. I opted for all the salads with a piece of salmon, which is grilled there and then. Today's salad choices were: - sweet potato, lentils, red onion, rocket, hazelnut - tomato, green beans, chickpeas, spinach - carrots, red cabbage, wild rice, apple - sweet corn, pepper, scallions, avocado, tabbouleh My goodness, it was so flipping delicious. Serious tastiness going on here. Each one of the four salads were great. The queue is still long, but moves quickly. Green Bench packs massive punch for a pint sized place, sandwiches, salads, hot pots, great coffee and delicious home made healthy cakes (ok I lie they're prob not healthy but damn they're tasty!) They're also exceptionally well priced for what you get a soup & sandwich will set you back €7 and keep you full for the rest of the day. This is a well loved place by everyone in our office and others as evident by the queue at lunchtime. The staff are also lovely, kudos to the main lady who manages the till too. She has to deal with a zillion orders all at once and I've never seen her crack under the pressure, always cool calm and with a lovely smile. Well done Green Bench! read more

Their sandwiches are amazing. It's a small little place great for picking up a tasty lunch that will keep you full for the rest of the day. Its a tiny little spot with no space to sit (except for the green bench outside) but it doesn't seem to get cramped as they are always super fast and efficient in getting you your sandwich. I have no idea how they can charge so little for their sandwiches. They are crammed with delicious things; if you were to buy a sandwich in somewhere like O'Briens it might cost the same but the ingredients there are Tesco everyday range level of quality. I can't believe I only discovered this place a month ago! What have I been doing with my life? The Green Bench Café deserves all the praise it's been getting and then some. The best goddamn sandwiches you are likely to find in our fair city. I will be utterly shocked if you can find me one better. This is the best sandwich I've ever had. Although it's a takeaway shop, it's worth miles walking to go there. We ordered chicken and beef sandwiches and cups of latte and Americano. They are all great! The sandwiches come in big size and the staff has considerately cut them into two. Each sandwich has its own components. The chicken one has a sweet taste and I think there's mint in it (wow)! The best part is, the St. Stephen's Green is nearby, that means, you can take your food and drinks there! This tiny little sandwich shop located in a little alley in Dublin is one of the hottest rated businesses in Yelp.... and d'ya know what? It's well deserved. I'm not a big sarnie (or should that be sambo) person. I don't have them for lunch as I have never been a huge fan of bread in general (memories of school lunchboxes) and as such, when sandwiches were suggested for lunch I had a bit of a "meh" response. In the spirit of trying things I wouldn't normally go for, I felt it would be worth a go when it was suggested by my colleague last week. Firstly, be prepared the queue. The line to get into this place was OK when we got there (at around 12:30, maybe?) but the line when we left was twice as long. Saying that, it moved really quickly which is a testament to the fantastic staff who work at this little gem of a venue. This is definitely a lunch hot spot. Soups, salads, wraps and sandwiches are on the menu here and there are combo deals if you want more than one thing. The prices are pretty good too! A vegetarian Butternut Squash wrap with Halloumi and some accompanying autumn soup was €7. The wrap was made fresh and the soup was hot and comforting. I was in the queue, served and out the door in around 15 minutes with my brown paper bag of deliciousness ready to lunch it up back at the office. IT.WAS.ALL.DELICIOUS. All of the ingredients were evidently entirely fresh and the soup was warm, zingy and comforting. I honestly think if I lived in Dublin I would eat at this joint at least a few times a week. Delicious, quality food AND an insanely reasonable price. It is possible to find both in one place, and this is it. It exists. It's the unicorn of food, and it's here in Dublin. This place was built up a lot, and it's everything that everyone talks about... and more... and then some more. Don't be discouraged by the line, it moves quickly and is totally worth just a short wait. Service is friendly and the menu is small but with a wide range of options (chicken, falafel, pork, turkey, salads). It was hard to pick but I went for the sausage and potato rosti sandwich (special on Fridays), which was probably the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. Every ingredient is thought out, the flavor combos are to die for, and you pay 5.50 (6.50 for chicken)!!! The sandwich is also huge, but it's too delicious not to finish, so be prepared for the food coma. Great location between Stephen's Green and Iveagh Gardens which are perfect for sitting down with your sandwich. You'll need the walk after you're done, trust me. I would try anything and everything on their menu (and I will), I just wish I had room at the end for one of their pastries, which all looked fab. Coming from a family of foodies, I was delighted to find this place around the corner from my office. People often look at you like a confused puppy (The whole synchronised head and eyebrow tilt) when you ask for Bircher Muesli so I was more than happy to find they offer a brilliant rendition of Bircher with rhubarb topping and a cuppa coffee for €5. Great for people who do breakfast on the go (also on a side note; the coffee offers a quick release of energy while Bircher keeps you going right up until lunchtime) When it comes to lunchtime, pretty much anything flies. They change the menu regularly so don't get too attached to one item on it. I often opt for a sturdy sandwich but when tempted I sometimes go for the daily hotpot. The sandwiches that get my attention often compromise of ingredients such as BBQ (or pulled) pork with extras like pineapple, avocado, carrot, coleslaw, relish, pineapple (said it again cause it's so damn right outrageously good in a sandwich) and a whole lot more. Add all this to a menu packed with soups, salads and much more and you've got yourself one of the hardest decisions you'll ever make. The place is pretty small so make sure you have somewhere nice to go eat your prize food, be it back at the office or in St Stephens Green which is only a stones throw away. Also, definitely bring an umbrella because the queue yawns out the door and down towards Harcourt Street everyday and if/when it rains you'll be grateful. 5/5: I'm not sure if I'll fall in love like this again. read more

This is one of those places that reminds me that everything in my hometown (San Francisco) is horribly overpriced. This place is everything you want in a workday lunch place, so it's no wonder that despite its somewhat hidden location (in an alley...but not a sketchy one!), the line goes out the door every day. Every nearby office worker seems to have found this local gem. Hop in line (don't worry, it moves fast!) and take a look at the menu of the day (it's printed on a sheet of paper and also written on the chalkboard). There's a selection of sandwiches, salads, and soups, and you can get your fill through various combinations of the three easily for under 10 euros. The sandwiches are somewhat fusion-y... when I visited the sandwiches featured Mediterranean spices, though I'm sure the flavors are on some kind of rotation. They don't start serving lunch until 12! Crazy line starts forming towards the left ( where you see salads) - if you're not standing there, holding your spot, you WILL be cut. It was the first time I felt like I was in a lunch-time battle zone...we were brought here as a blog did a feature on the BEST pulled pork sandwiches in Dublin, and Green Bench made the list. We got a coffee, a hot pot, 2 pulled pork sandwiches and a salad. Why all the food you ask? Combo deals! The combo deals (sandwich and soup, salad and soup,sandwich and salad, hot pot and sandwich...) are so worth it! Coffee is good, pulled pork sandwiches are AWESOME, salads are fresh, hot pot is hearty, customers are anxious, and staff stress levels are high (even though they do their best to hide it). I do think it's a good pulled pork sandwich - it's more in the Asian style (like the one at Donnybrook Fair) with the spices they use and the taste of the slaw. Personally I prefer the drenched in smokey BBQ style pulled pork like they have at Bison, but this is probably much healthier. :) It's a shame that it's so far from work as they're only open on weekdays, as this is definitely a great lunch spot. read more

This small space was crammed from 12.30 serving up interesting, tasty soups, salads, sandwiches for takeaway. Rare beef, red onion marmalade, rocket, carrot and celeriac slaw, aoili, swiss cheese on artisan sourdough that's got the sweet aftertaste of fried bread. That and some moroccan salad for €7. I'll queue in the rain for nosh like this. You'll find Montague St linking between Camden St and Harcourt St; not far from Harcourt St exit from the Iveagh Gardens. We showed up on a cloudy drizzly day on black friday for lunch after reading the reviews. We spotted the front door from halfway down the alley due to the line that stretched halfway across the adjacent building. As we were standing there the smell of the freshly cooked meats kept us waiting, and the line moved quite quickly. We ordered a smoked paprika chicken sandwich, and a roast turkey sandwich which came up rather fast. The food was amazing, the spices and textures were on point, and very different from the typical New York style deli we're used to. Green Bench does a storming business and that's because it is affordable, consistent, healthy, and ridiculously delicious. All sandwiches are 4.90 - a mixed salad with your choice of protein on top is a 5er. They could EASILY charge 3 euros more for both and still do a storming business because it's so f-ing delicious but they don't. Which makes everyone love them more. Lunch time is absolutely hectic, lines out the door everyday, but the staff remain composed, friendly, smiling, and always remember your order. There's no seats so take your unbelievably cheap and tasty sandwich to the park. Then you sit down, marvel at it's beauty for 20-30 seconds, and eat the best lunch in town. I'm not a sandwich person usually, after seeing the help reviews and affordable price for this place, I decided to give this place a try, and boy was I impressed. I think this is single-handedly the best sandwich I've had so far. My personal favorite is the beef brisket sandwich which has this aromatic beefy taste. The tomato sauce they used were simply divine. The clerks were attentive and matter of fact which I appreciate. The Green Bench Coffee is a very small coffee located in a side street. You have to look twice to recognize it. You will find very nice and friendly people working there. The coffee is great. I always went with a flat white and have not been disappointed. You can also get breakfast, pastries and soups which I never tried but that look delicious. It's all made in store. The best sandwiches. Ever. There is usually a queue but as others say, it moves quickly. My colleague had the beef and I had the halloumi. You can choose a wrap or different types of bread. Go, go, go! You won't be disappointed. I vow that every time I'm in Dublin I make sure to return. Yummy, yummy... Love in my tummy! This place is amazing... Consistently knocking it out of the park with their sandwiches, hot pots, salads and not to mention their little sweet cake treats. Not surprising this place is always up there with the best lunch in Dublin recommendations and for me, it really does live up to that. The queue at lunch hour is also very telling... But let me rest assure you, the queue can make you think twice but don't... Jump into the queue and quickly you will see it moving along. It moves along so fast, they have a military style set up in this small cafe and the production line works, so before you know you will be oogling the menu board and shouting across your brisket order, or whatever it is that tastes your fancy. They mix up their menu often which is great, keeps the interest there and always with the most unusual combinations. The menu is often inclusive of free range, organic local ingredients which is refreshing to see and for their price range, it's a bargain! You can combo a sandwich up with a cup of soup or a hot pot and again, the meal offers for this place is on the money, good value and worthy. They have barista made coffee available here, so ok, whilst not my favourite go to place for my daily coffee requirements but when I'm hitting this place up for lunch, the coffee, yes please! read more

Consistently fresh, tasty, and for the longest line at lunch they have perfected the art of making food quickly! Their pork is delicious, and best served in a wrap. Their salads change daily, and they update their fb page to keep their patrons in the know. I go for lunch at least 2x a week and never get tired of it.
