    Droolsome carrot cake
    Emily C.

There was a day that I had two sandwiches. About two hours apart. I just couldn't face the fact that the first one was gone out of my life forever. What can I say that hasn't already been said? THE. HYPE. IS. WORTH. IT. These lads know what they're doing. They are sambo pros. I pride myself in making an absolutely whopper sandwich, but it couldn't compare to the Green Bench. The pork shoulder one is probably my favourite, but honestly they're all good. There are also amazing salads and delicious baking, as well as fresh veg juices. If you get there at any time between 12.45 and 2pm, there is guaranteed to be a queue. But it moves fast, and trust me, it's WORTH IT.

Go and get a sandwich here. Or salad. Just do it. It doesn't matter which one you get, they are all amazing and such good value, just go and do it. And while you're there, get some carrot cake as well. You know you want to. And don't let the queue outside put you off, it is moving really fast. Also, you may think by the time it's your turn the staff will be all grumpy and stressed but you are wrong: they are a genuinely lovely bunch with big smiles on their faces. Now go on and get fed!

FiveMileTown goatscheese, hummus, yoghurt mayo, cucumber salsa, carrot salad and rocket = a sloppy tasty mess!

It was about time I upgraded my review of Green Bench Café from four stars to five stars. OK the sandwiches are excellent, I've established that. But today I went for salad box, which is 5 EUR. There are normally four salads to choose from and you also get a bit of meat on top, with a bit of dressing included in the corner for good measure. I opted for all the salads with a piece of salmon, which is grilled there and then. Today's salad choices were: - sweet potato, lentils, red onion, rocket, hazelnut - tomato, green beans, chickpeas, spinach - carrots, red cabbage, wild rice, apple - sweet corn, pepper, scallions, avocado, tabbouleh My goodness, it was so flipping delicious. Serious tastiness going on here. Each one of the four salads were great. The queue is still long, but moves quickly. If you are on Facebook and want to know what's on the Green Bench Café menu each day, you should like their page and tick "Get Notifications". You'll get their daily menu every time they post it to Facebook. I normally know what I'm going to order before I arrive... nom.

Their sandwiches are amazing. It's a small little place great for picking up a tasty lunch that will keep you full for the rest of the day. Its a tiny little spot with no space to sit (except for the green bench outside) but it doesn't seem to get cramped as they are always super fast and efficient in getting you your sandwich. I have no idea how they can charge so little for their sandwiches. They are crammed with delicious things; if you were to buy a sandwich in somewhere like O'Briens it might cost the same but the ingredients there are Tesco everyday range level of quality. If I lived closer to the Green Bench I would eat there everyday.

Sausage & potato Rosti sambo...nuff' said

I can't believe I only discovered this place a month ago! What have I been doing with my life? The Green Bench Café deserves all the praise it's been getting and then some. The best goddamn sandwiches you are likely to find in our fair city. I will be utterly shocked if you can find me one better. Vibrant, fresh ingredients with superb combinations that are sure to be a highlight of anyone's day. The different sauces they use to match are so ridiculously flavoursome, that I'd probably....no..I would, give up my first born for the recipes! If I wasn't so full of praise for this place, I'd be ashamed to admit that I ate here 4 times in one week. It would have been five if I'd been working! I've sampled the: Hereford Prime roast rare Beef w/ curry Mayo, carrot/mange tout/pepper salad, cheddar - Beef was just perfect. Great flavour and fall apart tender. The curry mayo complemented it wonderfully and accompanying ingredients set it over the edge. Turkey & Ham w/ herb stuffing, yoghurt Mayo, slaw, avocado & rocket - If you think this is just another bog standard ham sandwich, you are wrong...Dead wrong! The only time I'm going to eat a ham and turkey sandwich is the 5 days the proceeds Xmas. It's a sad day in my house when the turkey and ham run out at Xmas. Fear not! This place does the best turkey and ham sandwich I've ever tasted! Sorry Mam, but the Green Bench Café do it better than anyone. (Thankfully, she'll never read this) Sausage & Potato Rosti w/ roasted red peppers, slaw.....Awh who cares! Did you not just read Sausages and Potato Rosti's in a sandwich?! These are FAT proper sausages too. No sign of those shrivelled, little buggers. The rosti rocked...all round top notch stuff! They only do it on a Friday so if you've had one too many on a Thursday night and are in work on Friday? This sandwich will cure any hangover, I guarantee it. Do yourself a favour and head over there for this sandwich next Friday. You will not regret it. Luckily for me, my lunchtime usually hits at about 3.30pm, so I'm in and out in five minutes. Happy days! I suggest you arrive hungry because these sandwiches are not for the faint hearted! I'm usually against getting a sandwich for my lunch because you're left starving two hours later. These bad boys? I had one a day for my DINNER! The best part of all? All the sandwiches are only €5.50. You'll probably spend €4.50 for a hot chicken fillet roll in centra, right? For €1 extra, you are treated to the best sandwich in Dublin. Don't be an idiot. GO THERE.

This is the best sandwich I've ever had. Although it's a takeaway shop, it's worth miles walking to go there. We ordered chicken and beef sandwiches and cups of latte and Americano. They are all great! The sandwiches come in big size and the staff has considerately cut them into two. Each sandwich has its own components. The chicken one has a sweet taste and I think there's mint in it (wow)! The best part is, the St. Stephen's Green is nearby, that means, you can take your food and drinks there! Delicious food, lovely green grass, can't find a better afternoon in Dublin.

    First timer. Falafel, feta, hallumi!!!

People have been raving about this place and the reviews are superb. I had a falafel, hallumi and feta wrap. It was nice but I had to put salt on it for a bit more taste. My colleagues had lovely chicken sandwiches and ones with sausage. I was trying to be a bit healthier but the taste suffered and I just craved the meat ones. BIG mistake. HUGE! So will have to go back to taste again. The girl behind the counter was uber friendly and they are very well organised.

    Amazing halloumi sandwich

This tiny little sandwich shop located in a little alley in Dublin is one of the hottest rated businesses in Yelp.... and d'ya know what? It's well deserved. I'm not a big sarnie (or should that be sambo) person. I don't have them for lunch as I have never been a huge fan of bread in general (memories of school lunchboxes) and as such, when sandwiches were suggested for lunch I had a bit of a "meh" response. In the spirit of trying things I wouldn't normally go for, I felt it would be worth a go when it was suggested by my colleague last week. Firstly, be prepared the queue. The line to get into this place was OK when we got there (at around 12:30, maybe?) but the line when we left was twice as long. Saying that, it moved really quickly which is a testament to the fantastic staff who work at this little gem of a venue. This is definitely a lunch hot spot. Soups, salads, wraps and sandwiches are on the menu here and there are combo deals if you want more than one thing. The prices are pretty good too! A vegetarian Butternut Squash wrap with Halloumi and some accompanying autumn soup was €7. The wrap was made fresh and the soup was hot and comforting. I was in the queue, served and out the door in around 15 minutes with my brown paper bag of deliciousness ready to lunch it up back at the office. IT.WAS.ALL.DELICIOUS. All of the ingredients were evidently entirely fresh and the soup was warm, zingy and comforting. I honestly think if I lived in Dublin I would eat at this joint at least a few times a week. So, in summary.... The staff? Fantastic. The selection? Delectable. The price? Very fair. The taste? AMAZING. Dublin, you are so spoiled to have this Cafe in your city.

    Sausage sandwich perfection

While the staff in Hatch amuse themselves arranging things on a plate, talking to each other, and not bringing things to your table, the team at Green Bench serve what may be the best sandwiches in Dublin to hundreds of people an hour during the lunchtime rush. Not a fair comparison by any means, but I was struck by how brilliant the ordering process is here (it's takeaway only) and how fabulous the sandwiches are. Because I had one of their sausage sandwiches, I was reminded of Hatch, add they do indeed serve a good one.... Eventually. Anyway, I understand why they're are queues out the door. Brilliant.

Delicious, quality food AND an insanely reasonable price. It is possible to find both in one place, and this is it. It exists. It's the unicorn of food, and it's here in Dublin. This place was built up a lot, and it's everything that everyone talks about... and more... and then some more. Don't be discouraged by the line, it moves quickly and is totally worth just a short wait. Service is friendly and the menu is small but with a wide range of options (chicken, falafel, pork, turkey, salads). It was hard to pick but I went for the sausage and potato rosti sandwich (special on Fridays), which was probably the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. Every ingredient is thought out, the flavor combos are to die for, and you pay 5.50 (6.50 for chicken)!!! The sandwich is also huge, but it's too delicious not to finish, so be prepared for the food coma. Great location between Stephen's Green and Iveagh Gardens which are perfect for sitting down with your sandwich. You'll need the walk after you're done, trust me. I would try anything and everything on their menu (and I will), I just wish I had room at the end for one of their pastries, which all looked fab. The problem now is going out and trying new places when you know you can get the king of all sandwiches at Green Bench Cafe!

It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside is food happiness.

More often than not this is were I get my morning coffee and try to resist buying a baked good. They are SO good. I just had a banana bread and carrot cake today and it was the best 10 minutes of my year so far. The sandwiches, salads and soups are worth queueing for. So tasty and full of goodness. They know what they are doing. Oh and the sausage rolls on Fridays. There you go I'm drooling. Service is ok. The food makes me forgive anything anyway. I'm joining the queue of the healthy looking guys in suits.

Fresh ingredients, sandwiches made to order, smooth and efficient service during the lunch rush, friendly staff, delicious. BBQ Pork and Beef Brisket sandwiches are my personal recommendations.

BBQ pork sambo! Hands down the best sandwich in Dublin!

A super solid, heroically healthy lunch spot in Dublin 2!…read more This place literally saved me. Our office is across the street and I was in for the week. It was a catering smorgasbord of sandwiches, cookies and other very tempting treats. Each day I'd dismiss myself for lunch, sneak over to Cocu and indulge in greens upon greens and very well prepared proteins. The first day I had the Viet Chicken which to be honest I found a bit water (like an inch of water at the bottom of my takeaway tin!) but the second day I fared better with the baked flaked salmon over sweet potato and spinach. (delicious!) I like the customized nature of things - you pick your box and then what you want it served over (add sweet potato for just 50p if you need a bit more filling up) and then a topping. I always went with the nutty topping and it added a nice crunch. Que moves fast. It's very reasonably priced (around 8-9 euro), and there are spots to sit and enjoy. It's run efficiently and by some very friendly folks, so even during the lunch rush you'll be in and out with your healthy box of lunching. Very good indeed!

Why would I give up a segment of my lunchtime to go wait in line? This isn't America. The thing is though, I knew it'd be worth it. I'd been to the Baggot St one and had been harping on about it since. So, I did the unthinkable. I queued. To be fair, it went crazy fast and I was actually in and out in ten minutes. Grand. So, the food. It's really really good. The portions are huge for what you get and I love the mix of ingredients. I got the Middle Eastern chicken with avocado, feta, brown rice, green leaves and a vinegar type dressing. It was divine. Loads of everything, all really high quality, and left me with that full feeling but without feeling stodgy. It's all laid out really efficiently and clearly too, and the staff were smiley and on the ball. It's not hugely expensive, not hugely cheap, but with the quality and quantity you get, I think it's worth every penny.

Visiting Ireland for the first time, I did my best to read up on good places to grab breakfast,…read morebaked goods in Dublin and Brother Hubbard popped up on a few lists, Reddit posts, so I put it on my list to try and I'm glad I did! I walked in on a Wednesday morning, right as they opened at 9am, and was seated immediately. The sit-in part of Brother Hubbard is bright, relaxing, spacious with plenty of tables inside and there's a patio outside with plenty of tables as well. The waitress came over with a menu and gave me plenty of time to look it over. She was very courteous and pleasant, checking in throughout my time there, never hovering. For breakfast, I ordered an Americano, a ginger scone, and their Irish Oat Porridge - Classic. Their porridge is organic oats made with milk and with ordering it as "Classic", it was served with cream and honey. Starting with the ginger scone, this was another case of a perfectly baked scone - Crispy, golden exterior with a moist, buttery interior. The flavor of ginger was perfectly balanced and the raisins inside were a nice supplement to the scone. The porridge was really good, I loved the creaminess of it! Both did a nice job of filling me up and setting me up for the day of walking to come. Funny enough, around 3:30pm, I stopped here again to grab a mid-afternoon treat and ordered the chocolate and hazelnut Babka, their soft bun filled with chocolate and toasted hazelnuts. This pastry was crazy tasty! A slightly crispy exterior with a croissant-like inside chocked full of chocolate and those toasted hazelnuts. This was so rich and truly decadent. Brother Hubbard is a gem of a breakfast and pastry spot! I appreciate the relaxing café environment with friendly staff and high-quality food. I even saw the owner who was featured on the show here, helping out with clearing tables and so forth. I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast and an iced chai latte. The food was good and actually, not as heavy as I anticipated. It came with an egg, sausage, bacon, beans and a pudding, which I had to look up. It's ground meat with oats and is molded into a patty. It didn't taste bad, so can see why it's served around these parts of the world. And the meal also came with another item I had to look up, colcannon bread, which was a potato bread with kale. I ordered the Seafood Chowder and the Guinness Stew. Both were very tasty! The Seafood Chowder had a good amount of seafood and the flavor was hearty but not overly heavy. Same applies to the Guinness Stew. Very hearty with lots of beef chunks but I didn't feel too heavy after eating it. The stew is definitely much different in terms of flavor and the richness (the stew was a lot more rich) but having the contrast of both dishes was ideal. To top it off, dipping the provided soda bread in each of the dishes was an added bonus. The service is very prompt and the staff are friendly. There's a decent amount of tables so turnover shouldn't be too long for those waiting in the queue. Will definitely be back on my next visit to Dublin to try the other dishes!
