There was a little misunderstanding on the phone but the owner apologized and took great care of me. They were very knowledgeable in their work and they don't try to steal your money. This place is definitely a gem hidden away in the corners of small town Davis...but once it's found, it is like a girl inside a shoe store...Or a man in dealership!!! Once school began I realized how much of a rip off this bike place and all the other are. Wait until school starts and buy a bike from some one selling on campus. Plenty on the marketplace or other facebook student selling pages. You can get one for a third of the price or less of here. This bike I bought had problems all year long, took it back and was told their was nothing wrong.. After one school year it was trash and barely moving at all. Save your money. read more

I was biking home today when my bike just totally crapped out on me! My boyfriend and I stopped on Olive Road, and we spent a good 10 or so minutes trying or figure out what was wrong. As we were giving up and planning to walk the rest of the way, a man approached us and directed us to his bike shop right across the street. He quickly fixed my bike up for me and took the time to carefully answer all of my questions--even though it was after the store's business hours! I never noticed this place before since it's behind Redrum and right next to all the AAMCO garages, but I'll definitely be coming back because the service was great. :) Looks like there's a huge assortment of bikes there, too! My girlfriend took her bike here and they said they could replace her back tire for $10 and claimed they were the cheapest in town. He seemed like a really nice guy so we brought the bike here. He went ahead and replaced BOTH tires because the only tires he had were bigger. At no point during the installation did he even ASK HER IF THIS WAS ALRIGHT. No consultation or anything. Just went ahead and did it, then printed a receipt for two installs and wheels. Total ended up being over $80. I don't even care if they're the cheapest in town. I came here when searching for a bike for my girlfriend. They had a wide range of all different styles and sizes to choose from (road, mountain, cruiser, townie and surprisingly even time trial). Nelson (the owner) was really friendly and helpful in answering all our questions and was very knowledgeable and honest. We wanted to make sure we got the right bike for the right price and he was patient and not pushy at all. We were debating between two 47cm road bikes, and he gave his honest opinion on which one was a better deal. We walked out with a Bertoni Shimano 600 at a great price. Sure, you might find a better deal on Craigslist.. but the GBD is a store with overhead costs and paid staff. I have referred multiple friends here before because of the integrity of the owner and knowing that the used bike you purchase has already been fully tuned and fixed up. Most used bikes on Craigslist require some level of fixing up and if something unexpected happens you're SOL. Well worth paying a little more here for the peace of mind and knowing that you won't get a lemon. We also purchased a u-lock and multiple tubes there for other bikes. Cheapest tubes in town at $5. Ken's, B&L and everywhere else sells them for $8. We got a great deal on a sunlite u-lock too. If we ever run into problems with the Bertoni, I won't hesitate to bring it in for servicing. Highly recommend. Nelson and his main mechanic Ronaldo are fun to hang around and chat with. read more

Although the location is a bit hidden, this place deserves the full 5 stars. Reasons why this place rules: 1. Quick Service- I'm always in and out within 5-15 mins (for minor repairs such as flats) 2. Price- They have a coupon in the Davis coupon book that gives free labor with the purchase of a bike tube! (Total was $5.50 compared to $15 and the wait is MUCH quicker) 3.GREEN- Why buy a new bike when you can get a fully functioning one from this place for WAYYYY cheaper? Walmart sucks. Sorry Walmart. Just saying, buying a used bike is nothing like buying a used car. 4. Customer Service-Nelson and his workers are super friendly, so don't be scared to ask them questions! Flats suck. Only because the 9AM buses suck. I'm not the greatest handy(wo)man, so when it comes to bike repairs, it's best to leave it to the profesh. I found this spot via Yelp and also one of the coupon books (got free labor for a flat - w00p w00p!) The tube was only around $5, but I ended up tipping them extra just cause the workers seemed chill and nice. We chitchatted about fixies while I was waiting but I was in and out within 20 minutes.. no need to come back again for pick up! One of the guys also helped me load my bike back into my little Honda Accord, which requires some skill. Also, the shop is located right off the bike route so if you ever need some free air, you can stop here. Anyways, I'm hoping I don't run into any other bike problems, but if I do, then you'll see either see me being grumpy on the Unitrans or at this place gettin' my fixie fixed, ahah. read more

Amazing and fast service! I was devastated when I got a flat on my bike's back tire. I was even more stricken when I brought it to the bike barn on campus and was quoted $16. $16 for a stupid flat tire?! Really? :( SO I decided to search on handy dandy yelp for a bike repair shop that was at least a bit cheaper. Bike barn apparently has a coupon in the Davis coupon book for a flat tire repair for $5! I didn't know their hours, so I decided to come in at 1ish. It's right past Dutch Bros and has a sign that points to it. I approached the front and the nice man took out the bike from the back of my car for me and told me it'd take 10 minutes. I decided to drop it off and take a quick trip to the grocery store and when I came back half an hour later with it looking brand new! The man rang me up $5, took the time to wheel my bike into my trunk, and bid me goodbye. Coming here again if I get another flat tire! :) read more

They fixed the bent frame on my Baby Trend Navigator double stroller a month or two ago, and I am so appreciative. We live in Sacramento but none of the shops I contacted near me could help- probably because they mostly work on bicycles and high end jogging strollers. I checked Davis and found this place. They were very non pretentious and quite helpful. I bought the stroller secondhand from someone on Facebook marketplace who had also bought it secondhand. I knew it needed some minor repairs which I did myself, but was not aware it had a big bend on the frame under the fender. It's possible the seller also didn't know because it had been in their garage (maybe bumped by a car). The bend made it almost impossible to steer and therefore essentially unusable. The guys at the bike shop were not certain they'd be able to straighten it out without damaging it further but agreed to give it a try. I told them to go for it because I couldn't use it anyway as it was now. They had it for a day or two and were able to fix it!!! I don't remember exactly how much I paid but I think it was around $40. Money very well spent and I'm back out and about with my toddlers. I've been to the Green Bicycle Depot on numerous occasions and not once has Nelson failed to deliver! I first purchased my KHS Turbo Shimano 600 from Nelson last October. Since then, I am happy to report that my bike is more reliable than ever. Granted, it did take a good month to tune the bike to perfection... but, that's all a part of the process. Being a loyal customer does have its perks. Every so often, whenever Nelson knows that my college student budget is tight, he will offer to fix my flat for free. Is there any other bike shop that does you a service at no charge?? I think not! In all honesty, you should have no qualms about purchasing a reliable used bike from his shop. The few negative reviews most likely stem from the innate processes of a used bicycle business. Came over here after I've been in wanting of a bike for a long time. I had absolutely no idea what I wanted, but Nelson was super helpful and really nice! I actually almost fell off the first bike I test rode (my first time on a road bike, haha!) and he helped me on and pushed me off the second time I tried it out. Even when it seemed like I had made my choice, he still pulled out another bike to make sure I went through all my options and I was completely sure. He didn't pressure me at all- gave me as much time as I needed to try out all the bicycles, and he said to "find the one that's really you!" Seeing as I'm a very indecisive person, this was greatly appreciated. When I finally chose a bike, another employee thoroughly checked out the bike to make sure it was safe to ride before I took it home, and installed the lights/lock holder for free. Nelson let me know that anytime I had problems, no matter what they were, I could always bring the bike back and have them look at it. Updating review. My 14 yo son was helping out there for a year, until one of the workers, Reynaldo, started going through some type of midlife crisis (having problems with his wife - cheating- which lead to their divorce​ and his kids​ hate him). His personality changed, which lead to him having​ increased anger issues. One day, yelled at my son to not turn off a light, my son didn't​ hear, and he PUNCHED (yes punched) my 14-year​ son in the head for not listening. I called the police on him of course and it was captured on their video surveillance​. It's​ in the court's​ hands now. BUT I am very disappointed​ in the owner, Nelson, who didn't​ even fire him or lay him until the investigation was finished​. I feel sorry for any other underage kids that "volunteer" aka free child laborers that might also find themselves in the same situation. read more

This place is great. I rented a bike for four days while I was in Davis visiting friends, and Nelson set me up with a great bike and helped me figure out the Davis Bicycle Loop (printed me a map and oriented me,) and didn't charge me for the helmet or bike lock he also allowed me to use. I am also in the market to buy my first bike in a decade, so I test rode 5 bikes for about 8 rides total. Nelson was informative but very low pressure. If I was totally ready to buy, I would have bought one from him. As it is, I'll keep doing research and probably buy from a shop in my hometown, Oakland. The prices are great, especially for the used bikes. I think Green Bicycle Depot is an unpretentious, eco-friendly jewel in the bicycle environment that is Davis. Bought a new bike here for about $300. After a week of riding the left crank arm started loosening from the bottom bracket and fell off. After a day or two of reattaching and tightening only for it to loosen and fall off again I brought the bike back to the shop and asked what they could do about it. The dude who was there laughed and said that I was too strong and pedaled too hard. He said he couldn't do anything and he started giving me prices to replace the whole drivetrain. I left and was able to find another place in Davis that replaced it for cheaper than what green bicycle depot wanted me to pay. There are better bicycle shops in Davis with staff that take better care of their customers. read more

Came here to get my bike tuned up~ (usually tune up once a year) It's located on Olive Drive( near in n out). The store seems pretty dirty, but don't be fooled by the appearance. A staff greeted me immediately and assessed my bike. They told me I need new break pads ($10) and full tune up ($50). My bike was done in 2 days~ Very quick service compared to other places where I had to wait at least a day. Green bicycle depot is also cheaper compared to other places in Davis. The total came out to $70 including labor. I know other places charge $80 for a tune up. My bike is in good condition so far~ I will definately be coming back here if my bike has issues in the future. read more

Honestly, this place is awesome. I went here on Sat., Aug 8th, around 12PM. As soon as I walked in, someone greeted me in a really genuine way, that wasn't overwhelming, and asked me if he could help me with anything. I only knew enough about bikes to ride them, so all I knew at the time was that my brakes were making a terrible screeching noise. He pointed me to the back, and someone there greeted me right away and said he would be right with me. (I can't remember the guy's name...maybe Jake?) Within 10 minutes, I had someone working on my bike. Point: they have AMAZING customer service! Exceptional service! They were very friendly & didn't try to push on me what I didn't need. I love Green Bicycle Depot. They're always so kind and very quick with fixing my bike! LOCATION: They're tucked away in a small corner just a short distance from Redrum & Dutch Bros. Keep an eye out for their sign as you're driving down Olive Dr. And you should be able to find it! SERVICE: I've been here 4 or so times to get the tube replaced for my flat tire, and I've received excellent customer service every time. They unload and load my bike from my car for me, and they fix it in no time! Also, they check the air in both tires and fill as needed, which was definitely a nice gesture. COST: Their services are so affordable! They really care about providing great service to help out college students at a reasonable pricr. They even offer a coupon in the Little Green Machine book/app, so you get the flat tire repair for free and you're only paying $5+tax for the tube. DEFINITELY COME HERE FOR ANY OF YOUR BIKE TROUBLES! I cannot recommend this place any more than I am right now. I live on Olive Drive so I decided to stop by here to get some work done. I needed fenders and I was having trouble with my gears. The owners explained what was wrong with my bike. They are fixing it for me, then also gave me tips to explain what happened and how to make sure it doesn't happen again. The prices are about a third of what I've seen charged at the shops in downtown. Wait is much shorter than the bike barn. I think this is a hidden gem in Davis and I highly recommend it for anyone with any bike needs big or small! read more

This is the first place anyone should go when looking for a repair or a new bike. Had a really good experience here. I came to get my wheel trued and a new rack. The owner fixed my wheel right away and added a missing screw, then showed me a great $15 used rack that would work with my bike's frame and vintage feel. At least 20 minutes or work were put into my bike and he only charged my $5 for labor. Although the bikes Green Bicycle Depot had were out of my price range (since my bike got stolen and it was an expense I wasn't prepared to have and all the students had just come and purchased the cheaper used bikes) the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly even after I told them that I couldn't buy from them. I was trying to buy someone's used bike and I showed it to some of the guys there and he advised me to keep checking around because I was being sold a Walmart bike for way more than Walmart price. I found this place through Yelp, and I am very thankful for it. I recently moved to Davis, and I had my bike taken a part and shipped all the way from Florida. After calling around this was the most affordable place and the place that offered the fastest service. I took my bike to them and I had it back the same day! They are very quick, however the only reason I gave them 4 stars is because the next day I was riding my bike in downtown and my pedal fell off. I took my bike to them and they let me know my bike needed a new pedal so I had to buy a new one. I just wish this was something they would have told me when they assembled my bike. However, this place is very efficient because you can get everything done here all in one day if you are new to Davis. I got my bike lights, fenders, and my bike license all in one day. Just to add, this was all during the beginning of the school year which is a very busy time for bike shops. This place is just absolutely amazing. I don't know if this will be of much help, but this is what I've experienced from here so far. When I had to replace my bike after a kinda nasty accident last year, I came here because I've always heard really good stuff about them. They're so much better than what I expected. The owner personally talked to me about the bikes they had and really seemed to care about how I'd feel about the bikes. He even gave me a great discount on the bike I ended up choosing, because he felt that I needed something good to happen to me that day (my right hand was in a cast, and I brought my old bike there thinking it can be salvaged but finding out it's totally done for). Fast forward to today, when I came in to get my bike's (the one I bought from him) front break checked out. I came in not expecting him to remember me, but he asked me how I'm doing now, and that really made me glad I came back again. He not only fixed my front break, he also gave my bike a quick tune-up, because screws and such were loose, and I was bound to have an accident if he just left it be. My bike rides as smoothly as when I first got it now, and he did all of this for free. Definitely always going to go here for all my bike needs. read more

I came into the shop asking if they could order the necessary parts and give me a quote. In the mean time I was going to find a way to transport my bike all the way from the other side of town. Kim arranged with her boss to personally follow me with her car to my apartment and load up the bike herself! Talk about saving me a 2 mile walk in the heat as I drag my broken bike. They had the tubes in stock ($5 each) but they had to special order the tires in the color I wanted ($30 each). There's also a service fee per wheel ($5 each). The service was quick and I thought these prices were reasonable. You can't beat the customer service here. I was so comfortable asking Kim any questions I had. This place is family owned #pinoypride and strategically located close to the UC Davis Arboretum trail. My son had a flat tire the first day riding it. They charge us $10 for the tire, $5 for the tube, and $5 for installation. My son and I walked to Dutch Bro and it was done when we returned. VERY reasonably priced and quick service! Second time I bring my bike here and I was not disappointed. Nelson told me exactly what my bike needed and even cleaned it up for me. :) He did not pressure me to upgrade anything but told me the reality of what was wrong with my bike. Being a college student living on loans this is very important to me. And coming from a background of mechanics, I know there is sketchy stuff that can happen in shops. I tend to be untrustworthy sometimes with who I let fix my stuff when I cannot fix it myself or take it back home. WELL based on my experience here ...this was NOT the case. You really get your moneys worth here, if not even more. :D Some of the bike shops in Davis are too overpriced.
