Fast, cheap, efficient. I went here to get a flat tire changed. I had a coupon, so they didn't charge me for service. The tube was only $5, cheaper than just about anywhere else (and tires there were cheaper than the ones on Amazon). Nelson and the other employees here seem like nice people. That said, however, they sold me a bike that I've come to find out isn't safe. I bought a bike here in August. Within a mile of my first ride on the bike, the tire blew out. Not the tube, the tire. I brought it back, they replaced the tires free of charge. They even threw in a few tubes, which I definitely appreciated. Soon after I started having brake problems. Brought the bike back, they tuned the bike up free of charge. Later on my tire kept going flat, and my tires seemed out of true. I figured I could bring it back to Green's, but I wondered how many times I would keep bringing it back there before things would actually get better. I brought it to another bike shop in Davis, here's what they told me: 1) The tires are too small for the wheels and were very unsafe (apparently the tires could roll off at any moment) 2) The presta valves I was using are the wrong valves for the bike; I should be using schrader vales 3) The brake cable on the bike is worn through (he mentioned that it looked like one of the other cables had been replaced) 4) One of the spokes on the bike was broken. 5) If someone tried to sell him a bike like that, he would have punched them. I would understand seeing these types of problems if I abused the bike. However, I baby that thing like you wouldn't believe because of all the problems I've had with it. My situation could very well be the exception instead of the rule at Green's. I'm sure part of it is my fault for not being more knowledgable. All that said, there's no way I will ever go back there for any services whatsoever. read more

I wish I brought a friend with me when I made the purchase because I realized I got completely ripped off after searching google of how much the parts cost. Got here Sunday afternoon via the M line(you can take your bike on the bus on the weekends) and there was no other customers (probably because of the 105 weather). Service was fast and easy, in and out by 10 mins. I was gonna purchase a tube on amazon and fix the flat myself but my housemate told me about this place and it was a better deal overall. This place is great! While its tucked away from the rest of downtown retail, its service cannot be beat and the prices are about half of that of the competition. Additionally, the owners and employees are both accommodating and trustworthy. I took my bike there to have the brakes fixed and when I had a problem a few days later, they not only took care of it for free but took a good look at the rest of the bike for any other problems. I asked if he would sell me a tire, I told him I needed a 26x2 and he gave me a 26x1.5 and he said it would work fine, and that's what he uses for all of the cruisers in his shop, I told him I had a mountain bike and he said it would work for that too. The bikes are over priced. He also tried talking my friend into paying $80 for a 20 year old huffy in banged up shape. The place has quite a few good reviews and maybe it's good for rentals and repair; however, they seem quite reluctant to sell the large number of used bikes on display and press you to purchase the new ones. The prices of the new bikes are reasonable but not outstanding. Maybe I'll return for repairs but look around before buying a bike here. read more

Terrible place to do business. They WILL rip you off. They charged me $350 for a bike that LOOKED to be in good condition, but they blatantly lied to me about the parts. The chain ring needs replacing, I already replaced the chain. The seat is broken and they SPECIFICALLY talked about how great the seat is. I'll be pouring money into this piece of shit just to get it ride-able. I'm quite upset that I spent so much because I trusted their lies. Never EVER do business here. We took in a bike for a double tire change, oiled, and an overall look for only $30. After calling to ask about their inventory in used city bikes, we were told there were plenty at different price points and to come on down and check it out. When we got there we were helped by a really awkward guy who talked in a monotone manner and wanted to only show us 300$ new bikes. When I asked again for a used one, he said they did not have any right now. It was such an uncomfortable interface that we could not get out of there quick enough. Shoutout to Linh, who was so kind and friendly and helped me get a chain/gear check and regrip my handlebars when I was in a rush. This place will take down your number and call you after they're done with your bike, so you can pop off downtown for a quick bite (quick because they're usually done very soon!) to eat. Nelson, the owner was very nice, approachable, and genuine, and I'm glad there's an amazing bicycle shop like this one off campus! From what I've seen, this is the best as it gets between quality for the price. I'll be back soon, and I'm looking forward to giving this place all my business in the next few years. Nelson was extremely friendly and helpful, very willing to answer any questions or offer any tips you might have. I brought my bike in to get the fork adjusted and for a tune-up, and it was ready for pickup only several hours later. Called around Davis, and this place offered the best prices. I would say, however, that if you have a higher-end bike and are a road warrior, etc., you might be better off taking it elsewhere, as Green Bicycle Depot caters mostly to used/older bikes for the more casual rider (for instance, they might not necessarily have the correct parts on hand). read more

short story: went for a tune up to fix shifting issues on my bike. they called me and said my bike was done. a quick ride in the parking lot made it clear they didn't fix the problem. instead of fixing it they made excuses saying the front crank was bent and i needed to replace it. poor customer service and a rude attitude. went to ken's bike shop and they said there was nothing wrong with the crank. fixed the problem on the spot, free of charge. long story: i've had good experiences with this place in the past. nelson (glasses and goatee) was helpful and informative. but my recent visit has soured my feelings and i don't plan on coming back. i brought my commuter bike in for the $50 tune up. i told them that i'd have some problem shifting and that the derailleurs needed to be adjusted. they assured they would be and called me later that day that the tuneup was done. when i went to get my bike i took it for a ride to see how it felt. i'm glad i did because the shifting issue was still there and clearly had not been fixed. the guy working took my bike for a ride and agreed that the shifting problem was still there. i don't understand how you can say something is repaired when it's clearly not. they kept the bike and told me that this time they'd fix the problem. i get a call later that's my bike is ready and so i go to the shop for a third time. when i get there i ask if they adjusted the derailleurs because last time it wasn't done right. the employee, jake says they did. i get on my bike and pedal it around. it's a little better, but it's clearly still not shifting properly. i tell jake it's still not quite there and ask them to see what they can do. i had to hold the shifter down really hard to get it to shift up and there was a lot of noise/ grinding. jake tells me that's normal. i told him i didn't agree that i know it should shift smoother and he took my bike and tried to adjust it some more. another employee, mark came and tried to help jake figure out what to do. they work on it for about 10 mins and then an older gentlemen (40's) who might be an owner comes and tells them to stop. at this point the front derailler won't even stay in 3rd gear. when you try to shift up from 2 it grinds as it tries to go to 3rd and then pops back to 2nd. the older guy tells me that they've done all they can. the problem isn't the derailleur, but that my front crank is bent, that's why it's not shifting smoothly. i ask him if adjusting the derailleur would fix this and he gets frustrated and tells me "to go to an expert shop" if i'm not happy and walks away. i tell mark that i know they've spent time working on my bike, but i don't feel i should pay the full $50 since the problem wasn't fixed. i tell him i'm willing to pay $30, the cost of the basic tune up since i can see that they're trying to get it right. the older guy yells loudly in tagalog from across the room and mark tells me that he says that there's no charge. the older guy gets in his car and drives away. i immediately bike to ken's on g st and ask them if my crank is bent. they tell me no. kimo works on my bike and in a few minutes it's shifting in and out 3rd gear smoothly with no grinding. he had to wipe off my chain because it was over lubed and would collect a lot of dirt and debris. kimo took time to explain to me what he was doing and didn't even charge me. the only reason i gave two stars instead of one was because i know mark and jake were trying to do the right thing and fix my bike. i tried to save some money by going to green bike depot, but you do get what you pay for. next time i'll just go straight to ken's. read more

Nelson was very thorough in explaining everything that was done on the bike and offered to make things right. Awesome place! My bike got stolen so I was on the search for something new. I came across this place online so I decided to check it out. I tried out a few bikes and finally decided on one, the young man that helped me out was very friendly. Needless to say I left happy. One week after riding I had an issue with the bike, came back and got the part replaced for free! No questions asked, just took my bike checked it out and fixed it right up for me! The first two told me it would take 3-4 days to fix a simple flat tire, somewhat understandable given that this is the busy time of the year when school starts back up. This little bike shop has been such a life saver. I wish I knew about it my freshman year before I bought an overpriced new cruiser from a local bike shop in my area. My sophomore year, I bought a used road bike from this shop. Although I didn't know much about bicycles, the owner was extremely friendly and was able to help me make a selection that was good for my budget and my size. When I later got a flat tire a couple of months later, I found a coupon in the mail for a free flat tire repair, so I ended up only paying $5 + tax for a new tube. They were also incredibly efficient with fixing my tire and airing it back up. When it finally came time for me to move out of Davis, the owner was extremely fair with me when buying my two bicycles. He even helped me get the two bicycles out of my car! I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a new bicycle or needs repairs!
