OMG! Green City Market is a Farmer's Market in Lincoln Park, Chicago ... I absolutely loved every single vendor there! They had the most amazing veggies and fresh fruits from around the Midwest. We purchased various varieties of peppers, and of course, my favorite is the Gypsy Yellow bell pepper! I found a very rare Round Red Pepper, which is a Hungarian variety. The butter beans were so delicious, I used them in a soup, what I made in my daughter's kitchen. We bought some baked goods from a vendor. The Almond croissant was delicious, but the plain croissant was completely uneatable, because it was dry as a rock! The French baguette was delicious. We used it for dipping in olive oil, which my daughter brought home from Croatia. The Farmers Market is open from Spring till early Fall. I can't wait to go back when I'm in Chicago again! read more

If you love going to a farmers market, this is one you can't miss. We love going to the Green City Farmers Market, and I'm shocked I haven't written a review before. This market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7a-1p. It is a market that I'd recommend coming on the earlier end as it does get super crowded and most vendors do sell out towards the early afternoon. For this particular experience we went around 7:30am. For parking you can park in the Chicago History Museums parking lot, the booths have a validation card that help lower the costs down when you go and pay. (Be sure to pick one up at the Green City Market booth as you leave.) There are so many goodies, I don't even know where to start. I guess I'll start with my favorite part, it is an outdoor market and it is pet friendly. We brought our girl, Luna along and she made so many incredible new friends while walking around. It's so fun to see folks walking with their pups, and so many pup vendors for them to enjoy as well. We started our morning off by looking at some of the produce and baked goods, and those tend to get bought out first. We got to a few booths around 8am and they were already starting to sell out of baked goods. Once of my favorites was the pastry from the Eden booth. It had a variety of carrots and whipped ricotta cream on it. The perfect light and savory treat to share. We also grabbed a quiche and a breakfast sandwich to share from other booths, and this is when it started getting rather busy as the market. After buying our produce, we circled back to grab a grilled cheese for the road. When we walked up the line was starting to form, and by the time we got our sandwich (we waited 45 minutes for it) there was a line allllll the way around and more. Some folks waited a goood about of time for it, but the quality and taste were just the same no matter how long you wait because they crank those bad boys out fresh. We ended our morning by purchasing some fresh potatoes and leeks, along with freshly made potato Perogis from Daisies to make for dinner. Although it's quite the distance to drive every weekend, it's always a treat and we love supporting the local booths at the market. Can't wait for our next visit. read more

It's third spring after our 4th winter this year and spring is definitely in the air, again, and the farmers markets are open! Honestly, we got there by 11 and some vendors packed up because they sold out. The raclette stand was super busy but smelled so good. Pie stands and pastry looks like it's a get there first thing in the morning type thing cause a few were sold out for the day. People were laying out and having picnics and such. What a fantastic farmers market! I cannot believe I was missing out all these years and have never been to Green City Market before this weekend. First off let me start by saying I definitely recommend getting here early in the day. They're open from 7am-1pm; my friends and I came on a Saturday around 9am and it was perfect, I would've came even earlier. The market reallyyyyy picked up and got super packed around 11:30/12, so to avoid crowds I'd go as early as you can. It's to my knowledge they bring in different vendors each week (some the same and some new). I highly recommend checking out Noble Fat and Bennison Bakery. The food we tried was seriously outstanding; I got the chicken skewers from Noble Fat which came with some thinly sliced cucumbers which was a refreshing touch. The skewers were incredibly juicy and flavorful. I got the everything but the bagel croissant stuffed with chive cream cheese from Bennison's. When I tell you it was one the best things I've ever eaten, I mean it!!!! The almond croissant was to-die-for, as well. It's definitely pricey at this farmers market like most farmers markets are (and rightly so, the products/food are so fresh and real). The flower stands are also adorable! This is probably one of the most well-known farmers markets in the city and relatively large. It's located in Lincoln Park between Cannon Drive and Clark. Parking is generally going to be pretty tricky so I'm surprised that I was able to find a space--twice!--that let me get in and out relatively quickly. It's expensive, though. I'm not sure if the costs differ from market to market or not, and I know that costs are really high at the moment. It was too rich for my blood--at least to visit too terribly often. They did have some gorgeous flowers, though. It was a real struggle not to buy any whilst I was here, but I had many errands to run that day before I went home so they wouldn't have made it. I wouldn't mind another visit to create a bouquet. read more

As always Green City Market does NOT disappoint in many ways. Unique vendors and offerings. My favorite find this week was: Bushel & Peck's-Beloit, Wisconsin 1. Kimchi Bloody Mary Mix; and 2. Summer Garden Pickled Vegetable Medley. See pictures posted Green City Market has a huge venue of options from grab and go to picnicking on the grass. There is always live music which is fun and refreshing. There was a chef demo today and a free sampling. Some vendors now let you sample their products. The Green City Market is one of the LARGEST Farmers Markets in Chicago and is open all year long!!! In the winter they provide an indoor location for vendors and patrons. CTA Busses drop you right off in front of the market and the Green Line is on-site! read more

A delightful, bustling market in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. We visited on a warm Saturday morning in mid-June and were surprised by the variety of booths. From fresh produce and floral arrangements, to baked goods and coffee, to honey, meat, cheese, and various home products, we had no trouble spending a few hours meandering around the park. The Raclette tent boasts a tasty sandwich that comes with warm, gooey cheese and salty ham on a soft baguette. Their B.E.C (I forget which stand) was very mid and I would not necessarily recommend. However, the Kikwetu Kenyan Coffee group had a lavender bee latte with honey infused lavender syrup that was delicious. When green city market is open you know it's summer time in Chicago! ( they are open April-oct rain or shine) I'm not sure if it's due to Inflations or some other reason but the prices are quite high for items compared to organic grocery stores like wholefoods and plum market. I understand the farmers must travel a ways way to get here and they even told me( after visiting various farmers market throughout the years in Chicago ) that they get up as early as 3-4 am to get the vegetables ready to be sold the same day at the market. I paid $10 for a three-berry smoothie $9 for a grilled cheese with fresh mushrooms caramelized onions and Swiss cheese $7 for a baguette from phlour $7 for an iced lavender latte with oatmilk from a Kenyan coffee vendor. ( I paid $7 in Hawaii last year at the kccc farmers market in Oahu and it was Presented beautifully , tasted out of this world fresh and given to me with much Aloha! I) I cannot say the same for this. read more

Finally get to visit this farmers market on a Saturday morning! It's a relatively small but perfect farmers market that has everything I expected to see. They've got mostly veggies vendors and a couple of pastries/sandwiches vendors. I was able to get some pasture raised egg with good prices by paying $6 instead of $8-$10. But it felt like this market really lacked and energy of others I've been to and it was much smaller than I expected. As someone who has shopped at farmers markets all over the country, it should mean something that I run out of superlatives when describing Green City Market. Green City Market is the first market to require all vendors to be certified by nationally recognized third parties as organic and the effects of such standard are evident. The quality of the vendors is second to none. I have been shopping with them 1-2 times/week for months and have purchased from 80% of the vendors - at least - and can attest to their focus on the highest standards possible. Furthermore, the market organizers also put their money where their mouths are when it comes to food access. Near the information tent, attendees receive services for those with LINK cards. Not only does Green City Market match funds for those on SNAP with vouchers, but the first $25 is actually triple matched which ensures that members of every economic strata in Chicago have access to fresh and organic fruits, vegetables, meats, honey, fermented foods, and so much more. Finally, did I mention that the market is in a freaking park? Why shop in the street when you can shop in the park? Needless to say, the vibes are second to none. After grabbing all of my amazing foods for the next several days, I now also grab a Kenyan coffee, along with a cinnamon roll, or fresh bagel BLT, or smash burger, or kimchi wrap, or any of a number of delights, and treasure the fact that I somehow found one of the best farmers markets in America in the heart of Chicago. read more

I told myself that I would visit this farmers market and finally I did last Saturday. I believe this is the biggest and busiest farmers market in the Chicagoland area. It's situated in a very nice area by Lincoln Park Zoo near Lake Michigan. I'm a big fan of farmers markets and often frequent the one's in Logan Square and Wicker Park. This place was very busy and some of the same vendors work some of the other farmers markets in Chicago. The market attracts many like-minded people in the area that care about good food and where it comes from. Then, why didn't I give it great review? Well, first of all I had to pay for parking which is not cheap in this area (good luck trying to find street parking). Second of all, lines were very long at some of the stalls that I just didn't want to spend my time waiting in long lines. Perfect example of this is the baked goods stalls, they all had lines that were at least a half a block long! There either needs to be more bakers or each existing stall needs more employees to help speed the lines up. If you have ever had the privilege of visiting the La Boquerias Market in Barcelona the first thing you notice is the huge amount of people that visit every day, and even more so on weekends. Sometimes you are in areas where you are shoulder to shoulder with others, and probably think I'm never going to get to order anything because the crowds are so huge. But, at this market that is not the case because the venders here are very prepared to handle huge crowds. As a result, most of the time you can walk right up to any vender and get what you want without waiting. read more

It was so good at the green city farmer's market that I had a different version the next day at the Lincoln square farmer's market. The #5 kimchi and honey siracha was my favorite of the two but both were delicious. Bring wet wipes. They are messy but well worth it. read more

Green City Market Lincoln Park is EVERYTHING!!! I have it on my calendar from opening day to closing day. I go specifically to get fresh farm veggies for the week, but it's such a great destination with lots of food options, live music and art, and all the hot sauces/jams/pasta sauces/pastries you could dream of. The actual GCM crew in the welcome tents are always upbeat and smiling even in the rain/snow/hail. Come October I always stock up on my favorite hot sauces and other shelf stable goods to get me through the sad winter days without GCM. Love this farmer's market so much!! read more

A great farmers market! So many stalls and a variety too. Well balanced mix of produce, prepared food, and curated jarred goods. The cheese stand had unique cheeses. Right across from it was fresh baked breads for sale. Then produce options in another tent. The best part of the farmers market is buying some things here and there to create a grazing platter. You know, a nice farmers market sampler plate. It is the best way to get to know a city and it's people. The vendors are super nice and greet you as you pass by, ready to engage you in conversation and introduce you to their offerings. Worth a stop every time I visit Chicago! read more

I came here with my friends on a Saturday morning! This is such a nice event for the neighborhood. I enjoyed an everything bagel with cream cheese and tomato. It was very good! My friends had a mini quiche that they said was very good. My friend also got very pretty lilacs. June 2023: it's back to normal for the most part, since Covid. Same as far as Wednesdays being way fewer vendors than Saturdays. I don't buy sweets and hot sandwiches/pizza etc. I forget the names of the places but a new big vendor is on the Northeast Corner (great spinach and tomatoes). And I always love McKluge (? I think that's how you spell it) especially for their small, sweet strawberries!! I added photos. No idea what happened to them but Kajers eggs are great and good price. read more

This is my favorite farmers market in Chicago! The location is prime - it's super easy to get to, but also walking distance from the Lincoln park zoo, the Lincoln hotel and what I call "Central Park" of Chicago. They have a variety of vendors so you can be selective when it comes to your veggies, flowers, etc. My new hot food go to's are Noble Fat for bao buns and Ranclette for cheese and carbs galore it gets pretty busy fast, especially when it's nice out so I recommend going early if you can to beat the rush. read more

This is one of the more well run Farmer's Markets in the Chicagoland area.. especially during COVID-19! It runs every Saturday Morning from 7am to 1pm with 7-8am being set aside for Senior Citizens. Always a large line on Clark St. but don't be discouraged, it moves very fast! Once inside, it's setup as a "One Way" market and has many different vendors on each side. Green City Farmer's Market in Lincoln Park is a great place to purchase your fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables along with the other localvore foodstuffs that they have available to purchase. This is their late spring through early fall location and then they move indoors at the nearby Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum for the winter season. They obviously support the localvore movement, but sustainable horticultural and environmental concerns such as recycling and having compostable items in use like plastic cups, paper napkins and straws and plastic eating utensils to mention a few. They also have community outreach programs in neighborhoods that are considered food deserts. With that being said, they have an annual summer shindig that is their largest fundraiser to fund not only their farmer's markets, but their community programs as well. The Chef BBQ has over a hundred chefs from well known restaurants providing small plates of exceptional food, both sweet and savory. While some stay within the "BBQ" vein, others do not, but the creativity and execution is always at a high level. I was amazed at the variety of restaurants and their offerings. In addition to restaurants, there were a fair amount of breweries and liquor, wine, beer distributors to keep everyone well refreshed with adult libations. Non alcoholic beverages were in good supply as well. Ballyhoo Hospitality, for example, was also handing out small bottles of water for all the hot and thirsty souls who sampled their offerings. This event should be on everyone's summer calendar. I recommend saving your money and skipping Taste of Chicago and attending Chef BBQ as it is classier, standing head and shoulders above the Taste. Definitely, more expensive than the Taste, for sure, but way more satisfying in the long run and all the proceeds go to funding this awesome organization and the good work that they perform for Chicago. read more
