Shoppers can find fresh seasonal produce, plants, cheese, bread, cookies, bagels,etc. (Key word is "seasonal" with the produce.) I decided to take a walk down to the Federal Plaza Farmers Market to see what was fresh. Fresh Asparagus by the pound-you pick it-(out of the basket) and they weigh it! Leeks! Herbs! Peony flowers! I am looking forward to tomato and cucumber season. For now it is asparagus, fresh "Siam Queen" Thai basil from Smits Farms is of a much better quality with larger leaves than I have found in other places in Chicago. Plus reddish-pink peonies. Look for the Alexander Calder "Flamingo" Sculpture-then you know you are in the right spot! FYI-Not all vendor's from one market go to other Chicago City Farmer's Markets during different days of the week. Which makes it all the more interesting to market hop.

I love the vegan basket place (see photo)...so many delicious options. Today I tried the chorizo black bean but had the breakfast scramble last time. Everyone working there is so friendly, gives recommendations and will tell you all about their business. I highly recommend- the park and the booths are beautiful and a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning!

But it's situated rights at the Picasso of Chicago. Summer time vibes people just hanging out around the fountain and people watching. Pretty much standard fare for a farmers market. This one has a bit more jewelers and gift options. One thing I notice was the Raclette stand right in front of the Picasso. Mm... hot melt cheese! It's fun to watch too. Always fun stuff happening at Daley Plaza. Random house music parties, pop up shops, and sometimes protests. Always worth passing through when traveling through the loop. Always something fun going on and something tasty to eat.

In fact, I only had ever been there once or twice before because the location was difficult for me to get to before they closed up for the evening. In 2024, I've been to the market three times since it opened month or so ago, which is more than I had been in the 15 years prior. There's a nice variety of booths here, from the plants, fruits, and veggies to some prepared foods. Vendors are all helpful and friendly. A favorite new find is the SnackLab, a company that makes a few items but their potato chips are the best--in particular the Rosemary Lemon flavor. This is the best flavor combo and hard to pass up! It's not my favorite of the farmers markets around; there are better ones in my opinion. But it's not bad and certainly worth it if in the area.

I'd really wanted to pick up some strawberries but there were only a couple booths selling them when I was here last week, unfortunately. On the other hand, I can appreciate that it's a compact market (it only spans the block directly in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art) so that makes it a little more manageable than some other markets for some folks. It's not a destination farmer's market or anything, but when I'm here for doctors appointments I'd pick up from here if I wanted some fresh farm goods.

I arrived pretty late last night, and due to way too many people, I didn't want to wait in line for food, instead, I went to a little restaurant on the street, Turkish Doner, to satisfy my hunger. Next time I will arrive there much earlier and make sure to get in line for a few items, which I missed yesterday. Definitely want to get the Ube Tea, and some of the Ube buns, plus the beignets! Omg, they looked so delicious! But by the time I came back from dinner, lines were still huge front of those vendors, and they started packing up for the night. The event ends at 9 pm promptly! At the beginning, I experienced some really great drummers performing! I'm glad to see them performing live! There are different musicians during the evening, some are DJ-s and others are Hip Hop artists, but I attended before when there was a Rock Band playing. Argyle Night Market is always fun!
