My experience was different from many others in that it wasn't atrocious. LOL. I booked my tour to Mt Vesuvius/Pompeii from Rome BEFORE I saw these reviews and honestly if I did I wouldn't have booked it. I was told to be at their main offices at 7:30am sharp on a Saturday morning but the doors/gates were closed as of 7:15am. An employee of a nearby merchant was insistent that I was waiting in the wrong spot for my tour, stating that the street leading to the office was extremely narrow and no way a tour bus would fit down the block leading to their office. Since the office was a block away from Roma Termini station, he made good logic that perhaps I was supposed to board at Roma Termini. Needless to say this left me scrambling to run over to Roma Termini asking anyone I could find where this company tour bus was. After no help there I walked back to GLT offices and finally someone showed up to open the doors and gates closer to 8am than 7:30am which I was told. After two other folks showed up, my group was walked down the block to a waiting bus. The drive down to Mt Vesuvius was three hours long and without traffic on a Saturday morning. Two stops were made along the way, once at a shop that makes interesting jewelry pieces out of sea shells, to be honest it was clearly an opportunity to steer tourists to spend some money. I was lucky that the group of tourists on this trip knew this was the case and got back on the bus quickly after we were subjected to a short presentation of how they made the pieces. I understand this is how tours work but I'm just here for the main event. From there we made our way to the base of Mt Vesuvius and transferred to an open top bus. We met up with an outstanding tour guide there, extremely knowledgeable and super friendly. We spent about an hour walking around Mt Vesuvius then had to get back on the bus down the mountain. Honestly would have liked to have more time here but understand the schedule was tight. From there we headed to Pompeii and had lunch near the ruins. Lunch was included in the cost of the tour but honestly not great. Again I'm here for the main event not lunch. Pompeii was by far the highlight of the tour. We met up with an extremely knowledgeable tour guide there who provided a wealth of information. It was just an amazing experience to be in Pompeii and while I would have liked to have more time here, but again understood the tight schedule. While GLT can't take credit for the Pompeii ruins, they successfully transported me there and this was the highlight of my trip to Italy. If you take this tour know that it takes 3 hours each way. I took this tour after a week of 20k steps each day in Rome so giving my feet/legs a rest on a 6 hour drive wasn't a bad idea. Know that there will be one stopover to try and sell you stuff. Know that you will feel rushed but the experience, especially Pompeii will leave you fulfilled. I was lucky to take this tour before the busy season so traffic was lighter and there was a total of 6 people on my tour bus. The tour guides, tour lead, & bus driver couldn't have been better. So I deducted 1 star for the unnecessary grief to start the tour, if I was given the right information on when to show up, it would have been a 5. read more

The headphones don't work.. when I told the attendee she told me to move to another seat. Well, I didn't do the tour alone, I wanted to sit with my husband. Moved to another seat anyway... the headphones kept switching to a foreign language even though I selected English... so each time it started up speaking I would have to find English again and miss half of what they were saying... Everything. Warning to Anyone Considering Green Line Tours in Rome On Sunday, July 5, a group of 18 of us visited Rome while on a cruise. After leaving the ship, we took a shuttle to the train terminal, where representatives from Green Line Tours sold us tickets for their hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour. We each paid €30 for the service. Our first stop was the Colosseum. What we were not told is that it is approximately a 20-minute walk from the bus stop to the entrance, followed by another 20-minute walk back. After returning to the pickup point, we waited 30-40 minutes for another bus. Two buses arrived--one was completely full, and the other was returning to the train station and could not take passengers. Eventually, we boarded another bus and continued to our next sightseeing stop. After our visit, we returned to the pickup point and waited another 20 minutes for a Green Line bus. When the bus finally arrived at around 2:30 p.m., we attempted to board, only to be told by the Green Line representative that we could not get on the bus because we would be late for our scheduled return to the train station. Instead, we were told to take a taxi at our own expense. We had already paid for transportation, yet we were refused service. There was no assistance, no alternative transportation, no representative to help us, no concern for whether we made it back safely, and no offer of compensation. Had we not had enough money to pay for taxis, our entire group could have been stranded and at risk of missing our transportation back to the cruise terminal. To make matters worse, during one part of the tour, members of our group were talking quietly on the bus when a staff member rudely told us to "shut up." That level of customer service was completely unacceptable. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Green Line Tours. We found the staff to be rude, unhelpful, and lacking in customer care. We paid for a service that was not fully provided, and we were left to solve the problem ourselves. This post is simply to warn other travelers to carefully consider their options before booking with Green Line Tours. I will also post a copy of one of my €30 tickets as proof that we paid for the service but did not receive what was promised. I sincerely hope no other visitors to Rome have to experience the same level of disappointment that our group did. read more

Absolutely atrocious. I have done several hop on/hop off tours, and this was mot only the worst tour but the worst organized operation I have ever seen. The stops are impossible to fine, the buses have no AC (even in 95 degree heat), and the in board WIFI is fake. We sat for 20 minutes on a bus while the driver smoked, yet when we arrived at a different bus stop 1 min late but within view of the driver, he refused to wait for us. We ended up having to take a taxi. I feel well and truly scammed. Do not book!!!!! read more

This was not a good tour. Many of the earphone jacks did not work, there was constant "music" in the background that made it very difficult to hear the tour guide and very little information was provided. We spent most of our time at the stops, which were as long as the tour. read more

Horrible! Avoid! Hop on only when you first get on ! Then you wait at the stop and they are full or partially full and the won't let you on. Plus they never told us when we got off at stop 5 that you were not at the piazza Venezia, that you really weren't there so when you go back to to the piazza Venezia after you walk around... Application hasn't been updated to work with modern versions of Android. Wifi on buses is spotty. Wheelchair ramp was broken. Had to wait for a working bus. Commentary was short, not impressed, mostly classical music. NOT PART OF 3 LINE CONSORTIUM OF Big Bus, City Sightseeing, and ORP. So it's this crappy broken busline or nothing. Do not do business with these people. I trusted them with three days of transportation in Rome in November 2022. No other bus lines had problems moving their clients around town. This company wasted at least 3 hours of my time every day waiting because they could not keep their schedules. They blamed it on protests yet there were no protests that could be seen. Maybe the protests were against their company. I have no idea. I read their other reviews. But, it was too late. I should've read them first. When I asked for a refund they refused saying that they could be off schedule as much as two hours on every stop. That is insane. In addition it was pouring down rain these days and their top level had no way to close the windows and keep the rain out. So everyone was on the bottom level packed in like sardines. Being in a wheelchair, the bus was free for us (found this out after we paid, but I still am glad I paid) Is this an in depth tour? No, but it goes by all the highlights of central Rome. And it does have an audio guide (with free headphones if you need them). I would suggest staying on the bus for at least 1 whole cycle to get a good overview of what you can see, then hopping on and off at the sites that interest you. (they might not be the ones you originally thought about). There is so much to see in Rome, that it takes more than 1 day (which is all that we had). Bus stops were ridiculously far from attractions and were completely packed with people at every stop. They were incredibly disorganized and took forever to let anyone board. There was someone at the stops that was supposed to manage the line but if he chose to he would move others to the front of the line. Several busses would go by and only few people were able to board. They obviously don't have enough busses for the amount of tours they sold. the tickets were 5 euros less than other tours but would never choose them again. The views from the top level are pretty good and it is an interesting way to see the city without a cab. The second bus we were on was pretty beat up They give out head phones to use to listen to an audio tour. I didn't care for the audio. It didn't always coincide with where you were. This is for the hop on and off tour of Rome. We used this company because someone at a store told us this was a great local hop on and off bus. I think he brought us here just for the commission what's worse was that he was a fellow Filipino. If I had WiFi then I would have checked out the reviews on yelp but atlas I trusted the wrong person. The ladies at the store was recommending a different line. First the bus stops were not marked like the other buses. There was no green line tour stop sign. We just followed the leaders. Two, it was limited on stops compared to the red buses. Customer service was not great. When asked a question usually they didn't know the answer or explain clearly where to go when asking for directions to the Spanish steps or the Trevi Fountain. The brochure said last bus at 6:30, the First Lady in our first bus said it runs till 9PM then the third person said until 8pm. Clearly we were confused. The WiFi was very sketchy, some of the passwords were written on a paper on a wall, some were not even there so had to ask the attendant, talk about lack of consistency. The ear phones they provide or the system used for the narration doesn't work in half the seats. I can live with that but as we wait at stops at times the big B buses, and the grey lines well have two buses come thru before or arrives. Last stop we waited 40 minutes. Fortunately used for one day but any longer would have asked for money back. Competitors came thru stops more frequently... 2 buses to every one green bus, competitors had assistants at every stop that I visited while Green Line did not, no visible signage so found myself asking competitors; if green stopped there. Attendant was confused when purchased at hotel and my initial ride was long to process as to my pass status. Did not have change (small domination) and struggled getting passengers on board each stop. Pink bus more reliable from my observation of frequency. Not to mention it's past 6:30p and I'm seeing pink hop on hop off buses at 7:30p ...i assume competitor runs later too. read more

At first I enjoyed the tour however after I got on a realized that the bus stopped at each stop and picked up new clients that took 5-30 minutes depending on the number of new riders. They also have FALSE ADVERTISING regarding the promotional with EATALY. If you want to get the "free" tote bag you must have the receipt of an item you purchased at Eataly and if you don't get a receipt they will look at the items you purchased and deny you the tote bag. Ok. So I was skeptical because the guy on the street was selling 2 different companies tours. The first one was several euro more. And he immediately was like same service less money. I'll walk you to the office you pay here I will walk you to the stop. So I read the reviews on the way to the office I was alarmed at first because they had a low rating and he was seeming to rush me a bit. So I'm here to tell you if you want 1. To save money. 2. To ride a hop on hop off with adequate available stops through Rome. They were consistent and available at every stop, easy find and helpful when we asked questions. The only potential issue was the head phones they gave me for the audio did not work, I never asked for a second pair because I had my own. I was optimistic even though I saw the bad reviews but they were right. It's 37 degrees outside and no cooling down on the bus. No AC inside the bus. Also, if you are sitting inside, many windows have stickers on them, so you won't see much. For sure you won't be able to take pictures. Checking in is so slow. You want to sit upstairs if there is room. But only fun when it is moving. When it stops, it's really hot up there. Long lines are waiting and one person will take about a minute to check-in. You are standing there for a while. The bus was crowded and others mentioned, some of the audio works but others won't. Bad quality, mono, not loud enough. Also, many stops are pretty far from the thing you want to see. It's not right next to it, you have to walk a LOT. I decided to take an UBER back to the hotel from the Colosseum. It was nice and air-conditioned. You'll be better off with an UBER and walking. read more

Last day of family trip celebrating our dad's 90th birthday was ruined by this horrific company! Worst tour experience ever. Worst service experience ever. Had us sit on bus for over an hour of a 3 hour scheduled tour waiting as they gathered others. Had one guide speaking English and French in fast-speak over gravelly headphones, while we ran through the vatican museum & St. Peter's. Yes, ran. Residenza di Ripetta booked us with this horrible tour company, since they were the only ones available that day; they let GLT know that my 84 year old mother had a rod in her leg after getting cancer, so could walk slowly. GLT didn't "allow" wheelchairs, but GLT assured them that they'd be fine and encouraged the booking for 7 "adults" over 9 years old. The tour guide ran to the entrance of the Vatican Museum in 100 degree heat. Both of my parents tried to stop for a moment to take a sip of water and were yelled at to move faster! We entered and went up a long spiral ramp with broken air conditioning and my parents were allowed to use the elevator (without the rest of the family), and the tour guide said over the speaker that "I'm letting the old lady use the lift this time, but that's it. She's moving too slowly and I'm not going to let her use a lift again. I just don't want her to delay us on this long ramp." He then ran us through the Vatican Museum which was packed, again yelling at my mom & dad to move fast! We ran into St. Peter's Basilica (where we had less than 20 minutes total with no tour commentary offered), then across St. Peter's Square, not allowing a stop at the official vatican store for a gift (or a stop for water or rest rooms)... but then spent over an hour at an overpriced gift shop across the street, where he obviously got his commission! We then ran thought the bus terminal to the bus and again he yelled at my parents to move fast. I asked him why he was so uncaring and he said that he was 85 and if he could run through, then the "Old Lady" should be able to as well, cancer or not. Final blow was on the return trip to our hotel; they dropped us off over 10 blocks away! We took the tour T15 (start in Rome, visit Naples and Pompeii), but it was not very satisfactory. It's a 13 hour tour, of which only 2 hours are in ancient Pompeii, and we didn't get to see very much of the ruins. True, the bus trip is about 3 hours in each direction. The remaining time was spent with one stop on the waterfront in Naples, about an hour at a cameo factory, about an hour and a half for lunch in the modern city of Pompeii, and several rest stops. We were picked up on time at our hotel in the morning (good) but dropped off several blocks away in the evening (bad); luckily we had walked those blocks the previous day and had no problem finding our way back. We had a bilingual tour (Spanish and English), with a bus tour guide (Marina) and an on-the-ground local tour guide (Guido). Both guides had very thick Italian accents were often hard to follow. We both are native English speakers and have a moderate knowledge of Spanish, and we thought the guides were easier to understand in Spanish than in English! The bilingual feature was disorienting, and our concentration would often falter. Marina was especially hard to follow, as every other word out of her mouth in English was "uh". The lunch was a set menu (price included in the ticket price) but was not very good, in my opinion. The main course was described by the guide as "beefsteak" in English and "cerdo" (pork) in Spanish; when served it appeared to be pork. It was accompanied by mashed potatoes that were mixed with something else that might have been bread crumbs or stuffing and that most people did not eat. There was also a salad appetizer, a slice of pizza, and a fruit bowl for dessert; these were nothing special. We would rather have shopped for our own lunch. read more

They "accidentally" booked us for the Vatican and while we were sitting on the bus they told us to get off and then tried to explain to us why our hotel screwed us up and why they didn't catch the mistake until they had already taken our money and we were on the bus. We then had to repeatedly ask for our money back when we got back to their office. An entire day of our vacation wasted by this place. We bought a ticket for two days and hardly were able to use the bus. It was always more than 45-60 minutes gap between the buses. The bus attendants were extremely rude to the customers and talked back when we tried to ask them. We were very frustrated when after waiting for almost 1 hour the bus attendant asked us to step aside and let some other people get in first. The frequency of buses was closer to 40 minutes compared to their advertised rate of 15. The audio on the bus was boring and lacked interesting information. In addition, they failed to provide us accurate description of the last bus ride which caused us to be left far from our hotel. I would recommend a company like I Rome or Big Bus Tours. read more

Terrible service. They advertised 14 mins long for the next bus in each drop off location. We wait for more than half an hour at the colosseum. When it arrived there was a long line waiting and fighting to get into the bus. The guide shouted to the people step aside and left. The remaining people had to wait for another half an hour. When the next bus finally arrived it was too crowded again and we had to accept riding without seating. The guide explained it was unusual and asked us to be patient and the next bus would be better. We then left at the next station the circus Maximus and waited for the next bus. When the bus came (again half an hour under a terrible sun), guess what? fully crowded again. I asked the guide to be refunded because they weren't delivering what was promised. She told me it was impossible and I had to get to the office to be refunded. We left in the next station in plaza di Spagna and had lunch. It was almost 4pm when we took the last bus and finally seated. We went directly to the departing station to go to their office and they told me I could not be refunded because I had used the service anyway. I explained them three things: 1) there's no way to know the service is not being delivered as promised before starting to use it; 2) when I asked to cancel the service they told me lies about the next buses, so I trusted them; 3) there's no way to return to the initial station other then the bus; 4) there's no disclaimer nor orientation from the guides that I have the right to be refunded if I go straight to the station I started. All they did was ask me to be patient and continue to use the service. I spent the entire day not using the service, just waiting in lines, complaining and arguing and no form of compensation for their Terrible service. I wish I have searched for them on TripAdvisor before purchasing the tickets. At least I can contribute here to help other tourists. read more

We took the Ovieto and Assisi tour on 07/02/18 and turned into my worst experience, because the guide told us to leave our packages in the bus after the first stop and that will be safe because the driver is the only one who has access, so I did, and when I got back at the hotel1 of my item was missing. then I called 3 times and they are no help. my item was stolen. Our hotel booked this tour for us. We were picked up at our hotel and taken to a meeting place, to get on the bus. Our guide was good, although he didn't give us his name. Overall we enjoyed the tour and our guide's narration. The wait between buses was substantial. And we were shocked to learn we had to get back to our hotel on our own. We were new to Rome and not sure of how to get there. A kind fellow passenger helped us with directions, and we hiked a good distance but got back to our hotel after dark. We thought we should have been told in advance that we would need to figure this out. I don't think we would book with this company again. read more

Pro's: Green Line Tours picked us up at our hotel first thing in the morning and dropped us off down the street from our hotel when we returned at night. Con's: Pretty much everything else. A lowlight of our honeymoon ended up being our tour of Naples/Pompeii. For €150.00 (about $210) per person for a full day trip with an English speaking guide and lunch included, it looked like a steal. But by the end of the day it felt like we were the ones who were robbed. So here is how it went: We were told that the bus would arrive at our hotel between 6:30am and 7:15am. While we certainly didn't expect it to arrive at the earliest time, we still waited in the lobby right away just incase. A man walked up to the front of the hotel asking for us around 7:10am. He then walked us down the street to a coach bus. We weren't too happy to see that this was actually a big tour group (we paid about the same in Florence for smaller tours with a much better company and thought we were doing the same here), but when we saw only about a dozen other people on the bus and found out we were the last pick up, we still had some hope. That optimism was quickly lost. It tuned out that we weren't actually going to ride this bus to Pompeii. Instead, we were driven to a central location where several daylong tours meet up. We were put on another coach bus with a tour guide and about 60 other people. We already knew that this was a bad sign, but we really wanted to see Naples and the ruins of Pompeii, and couldn't get a refund at this point, so we decided to try to make the best of it. The bus ride to Naples was a little more than 3 hours with a 20 minute stop a little less than half way there. The tour was not just English, but Multilingual. I hate to be a typical selfish American tourist, but what a stupid way to do things. I'm pretty impressed with someone who speaks 4 languages fluently, but it was tough to listen to someone speak when I was half asleep at the back of a bus and she had to speak French for 2 riders, Italian for 2 riders, and Spanish (The Spanish eventually stopped. I think it was because the Spanish speakers knew English and didn't want hear everything twice). When we finally arrived in Naples, we got off the bus for a stop at the city's beautiful bay for some pictures and to meet with our local guide. After about 15 minutes or so, it was back on the bus. The Naples portion of our tour consisted of a 30 minute drive around the city with some explanation about a few spots that we passed. Being on a moving coach bus with no opening windows, it didn't give us any real chance to take a decent picture of anything. I also can't remember a single thing the guide pointed out because I kept working not to dose off every time he repeated himself in another language. The next part of the tour was the biggest waste of time. A visit to a coral and cameo factory. We watched a five minute demo on sea shell art. Then 30 minutes of shopping. Wow, talk about an opportunity for the tour company to get a kick back while stupid tourist blow more euros. There was nothing around the factory, so my wife and I (and a couple of other people smart enough to know better than to fall for this scam) waited outside for 50 or so people to finally get the hint that if they get back on the bus, we'll have more time in Pompeii. We then drove to lunch at some tiny dive. The food was memorable, but not in a good way. Lunch consisted of spaghetti, a grotesque thin slice of ham covered with a nasty gravy (a fish option which I wish I had opted for, but my wife says was also bad), and a cup of grapes and pears for desert. The food was paid for in the price of the trip. Drinks were not. I guess providing us with at least water would've been asking for too much. Finally, Pompeii. I will have to admit that I did enjoy seeing the ruins of the ancient city. The guide gave a lot of great information. However, the tour was also filled with headaches. Since we were with so many people (in an already crowded place) we were fighting to see anything that he was talking about. We also had met up with another bus which allowed us to divide the languages, but it still forced us to have to wait for him to retell everything to the two Italian speakers. When the tour of Pompeii was over we then got a whole 10 minutes to do whatever we wanted. Thanks. It's not like we wanted to do any real souvenir shopping or maybe explore any parts of the ruins on our own or anything. It then took about another hour for the buses to divide themselves up. Some of the people on the tour were part of group that more places to check out the next day. I felt pretty bad for them. The rest of us were on a 3+ hour journey back to Rome. Likely the worst tour I have ever had. I booked the Classic Rome T1 tour and was told I'd be picked up at 8am. They were 30 minutes late. As a jetlagged tourist, I found this annoying, but it only got worse. The tour guide, Antonio, was BEYOND rude and an utter waste of time and money. What a truly piece of shit man. He had a heavy accent (not a problem), so I didn't understand everything he said, and he didn't explain things clearly, so I asked a few questions to clarify, and he got very angry and yelled at me in front of the crowd! He kept rolling his eyes at me. He literally chastised me multiple times for asking him to repeat himself, and when I said that I didn't understand what he said, he said: it's because you don't want to understand! WHAT??! He kept asking me why other people understand everything and why they have no questions. Even if I understand everything, I'm still gonna have questions, dude. Sorry for trying to learn about your home country. A tour guide is being paid to answer questions, clarify things, and make sure you know what's going on. So what if you have to repeat yourself? He had zero patience and was very jumpy. Not only that, when he would grace us with the honor of speaking to us, he'd do it while walking away from us, so the few facts he'd say to us, we couldn't even fully listen to. Lastly, they don't even drop you off at your hotel or the tour office. You're dropped off in the middle of nowhere with no directions or anything. Please Antonio, stop being a tour guide, and never ever become a teacher, because you, sir, have no interest in teaching anyone anything. Save your money and do not book with Green Line. Ever. Two stars because it got us to where we wanted to go during our visit in Rome. We went on two separate tours to look at the various aspects of the very historical side of the city, and opted for the tours so that we would get more information about the sites that we were visiting. For the amount that we had to pay, and for what was included, I don't think it was very worthwhile as an experience. On the first day we visited the Colosseum along with two other sites. Our tour guide was decent, but wasn't really very friendly when we tried to make conversation with him, which is a bit disappointing because I think someone in this line of work has to be upbeat or at least seem interested in his job to make it a good experience for everyone. He was quite monotone, so the experience overall was quite dull and boring. While the sites we saw were cool and interesting, the tour experience could have been a lot better for what we paid. On the second day, we did a tour of the Vatican, and our tour guide this day was a lot more friendly, making the experience a lot better than day 1. I found that the tour was rather lengthy and boring, and would have much rather had more time to explore some sights there on my own without having her explain all the details. It was about a 3 hour tour, and I feel that she only really needed to talk for half of it, or do what she did but in less detail. On both days, they both had a really bad system of keeping the group together. They would raise like an umbrella or a piece of cloth up as a means for making it easier to find them, but it wasn't really helpful. The second day was a lot worse because the group was very large, and in the beginning we almost lost our tour guide because it was very crowded at the Vatican. We had to put in a lot of effort to not get lost from the group. In fact, at the beginning of the tour, two ladies were left behind because they got lost and didn't get back with the group until later on when we bumped into them again. Transportation is also lacking. They pick you up from your hotel in the morning and take you to the offices where you pay and get onto a larger bus. The bus was a charter bus and nice, but there was no drop off service available when the tour was over. They had stops at a few locations, and you would have to pick the closest stop to where you wanted to get off and then find your own transportation back. This wasn't too bad for us because the stop was near our hotel, but for others in a foreign country, this may have been a bit difficult. read more
