I booked this tour company to Vatican City through the hotel concierge. It was an easy morning pick-up in the lobby, and then the shuttle took us to the main office so we can buy our tour tickets. They speak English, and they had maps. Everyone got into the tour bus, and then meandered through the streets of Rome on Saturday morning. It's so quiet!!! I guess Europeans like to sleep in late, haha. The tour was totally necessary if you plan to tour Vatican City, it was packed! Our tour guide Massimo, was very knowledgable about the artwork and the history of the Vatican. Once we got through the museum, he headed straight towards the Sistine Chapel and then onwards to St. Peter's Basilica and the piazza. If only the place wasn't closing at noon, Massimo would have took us to the top of the Basilica and more places to see. Oh well, next time! When we returned, they were kind enough to ask where we'd like to be dropped off, so they got us as close to the Pantheon as they could. Nice!! read more

For the love of Rome, DO NOT BOOK THEM. EVER. Like EVER. Yup, never. We booked them as a last resort because our other tour was cancelled. If you read the other reviews they are pretty spot on. 1. We signed up for 13 hour tour. Total of 13 hours. We got back an hour early. Were we supposed to have an extra hour in the ruins? Where is that other hour??? 2. We made unnecessary stops. A coral shop? I like the other pit stops, they were like oasis' with bathroom and snacks. Ok, that was fine. But a coral shop? 3. The tour of naples was bad. Just terrible. We never got out of the bus. The description said we would see Santa Lucia. So, if you mean see it, literally by see it with your eyes across a bridge, then they got it. 100% The twists and turns in Naples were not worth the terrible tour. I got motion sick on a bad tour. Great. 4. They kept asking for gratuity. It was awkward. I had taken SEVERAL tours by this point and NO ONE asked for gratuity. It could be given but was not expected as you paid for the tour. So, they actually asked for gratuity for the guide, the second and the bus driver. Poor taste. They prefaced it: In our culture we tip for good service and safety. WHAT? Service and safety. Awkward. 5. Lunch? They make you pay for your drinks. That would not be a big deal if I drank wine but I had tea. So my lunch is included but not my hot tea? And the lunch was kind of gross. Beef and potatoes with a weird gravy. It was underwhelming. Think cafeteria mystery meat. 6. I was told I would get picked up and dropped off at my hotel. Well I got picked up there. Terrible. We were looking for the red bus and when we saw a red bus stand they sold us green line without us noticing until we arrived to the stop. Once in the bus, the bus didn't take off for 10 min so we were just sitting there. Once in the route, the audio was silent. The audio guide only described one or two things every so often. This was the absolute worst experience we had in Rome. It was 88 degrees outside. The person on the Segway selling the tickets told us 2 lies: 1) the bus stop is a 2 minute walk from where we bought the tickets 2) the bus is air conditioned. Both flat out lies. To add insult to injury, the tour guide was rude to us and wouldn't allow us to get off the bus until the next stop. We spent 40 Euro five 30 minutes of torture!!!! This is one of many "hop on hop off" buses in Rome. Honestly I would go with another company. The Green Lines buses DO NOT run on time. The pick up locations are not well marked for this bus line. If you ask one of the many street people that work for the line you are told very different times that the bus is supposed to arrive. WiFi doesn't work on several buses. The worst part is they tried to use double talk to over charge us. They had my husband fooled but I had the cash yesterday and called them out so we only paid the correct amount. The worst service imaginable. Never again. A bus that has enormous advertising signs covering the exterior so as you can SEE NOTHING. If it rains there is no cover and the water rushes down the stairs like a waterfall. When we took the bus ( last week Oct 2018) it rained heavy. A miserable experience. First I'm a paying customer, not paid for the review. Purchased the 24 hour pass for me and family, 3 total. I assumed these are all the same so what's the difference? I realized at the first stop that I made a HUGE mistake!!! 1. At every stop, saw 5 competitive hop on buses to one green bus, so naturally there were many tired angry customers, 2. Office where I purchased tickets promised a bus every 15 minutes...try every 30 if you are lucky 3. On the bus the ticket taker person actually told a new customer it would be 5 minutes...which is true for competitive busses. 4. On bus recorded "guide" has a plug in for every seat, but I'm being generous if I say half of them worked. 5. At certain stops near attractions (green route is different from other buses, and not in a good way) while you wait your holiday away, you have the wonderful experience of being harassed repeatedly by people trying to sell you crap, illegally, and nobody tries to control it. GLT is not to blame for these aggressive behaviors, but to line us up and leave us there for excessive time is basically chumming,the waters... If you want to spend a day sightseeing then walk, we gave up on the bus and walked. If you like standing in line to be baked in the hot sun while vultures pick over your bones and try to separate you from your cash, then GLT is your HopOn bus! read more

Worst service ever. They don't always stop on their stops unless you advise them. When raining they make you sit on top deck with no cover top. Some of the tour bus staff are very rude and not helpful at all.Everytime you ask questions they make you feel stupid. The bus isn't maintained at all some of the audio jacks are not working. When raining all the water comes down to the lower deck. The route isn't easy for a tourist to understand. I waited at stop 7 for almost 30 minutes no bus stopped. I had to walk to bus stop number 8 and talked to some people that were waiting for bus also and they were confused if they were coming or not. I really don't recommend this to anyone at all. I don't really bad rate any company but this was for sure my worst experience with any company. If using a a bus tour in Rome or anywhere use the red city sightseeing bus tour. read more

This tour was not good at all. The worst part of this tour was when the people onboard tried to exchange buses for a covered top bus and the blond lady on the bus AR14 stopped us and didn't allow us to board when there was plenty of open seats (approx 10 visible)The weather was 98F and there was children and elderly trying to stay covered from the sun. She wouldn't even listen to the people. After this incident, the other downsides didn't matter, client safety should always be first. read more

Long and short we signed up for the Vatican tour, at first I thought it was pricey but did it anyway (3 x 66 = 198!!). They picked us up at the hotel on time @ 1:30 but we didn't get to the Vatican till 3. We had to wait for the others, traffic etc.... then we had to wait for everyone to go to the bathroom. Once we got there there. We ended up spending 2 hours rushing through the exhibits missing 50% of the museum. The tour guide was knowledgeable and nice. To be fair the Vatican was very crowded and she did the best she could with all the noise and commotion. I would NOT recommend this tour. Save yourself the $$ buy your own tickets online before you go and enjoy it all at your own pace read more

Tour buses in this town have a lot of competition! The green line tour bus had an extra two stops, which reeled us in, but some of the stops are soooo long!! As you roast up top in the hot, burning sun, they frantically stand outside looking for more people to join the tour. You can't even enjoy the sights bc the audio often doesn't match with where the bus is. Stick to the regular big red bus sightseeing tour. Tried and true. read more

Rip off. We took a tour of the Coliseum and the guide was an elderly man that we could barely hear. When my wife complained he said to move closer. The problem was that it was raining and everyone had umbrellas up so you couldn't really get closer. Other guides from other companies where nearby and enunciated very clearly and loudly. So much so that it drowned out what our guide was saying. I sent an email to Green Line requesting a partial refund as we had to go back and take the audio tour again but they never responded. read more

Worst tour experience I could imagine. We booked this colosseum tour on the referral of our hotel. The purpose was to avoid the historically long lines at the venue. Next time, I'll suffer the lines. This was supposed to be an English speaking tour guide. If this was English, I'm fluent in Italian. It would have been comical if it didn't waste almost two hours getting to the colosseum and literally driving around the same block three times for no apparent reason. While I know this was my first guided tour in Rome, I believe it may have Antonio's as well. Horrible experience. All Antonio wanted to talk about was the food and restaurants. He offered no historical information and berated a guest over the PA system for asking a question that he felt he had already talked about. Did the tour around Rome today, it was as expected, they had a prerecorded guide for all the religious and roman ruins that the bus past by the recordings were in many different languages and they gave you new headphones, well I hope they were new. Absolutely terrible! Save your money and just walk! You spend more time sitting at a stop than you do riding around visiting the city. You spend about 30 minutes at a few stops waiting for people to come and get on the bus. This tour is a waste of time and money. Please spend your money on something more pleasurable and enjoyable, this bus tour definitely isn't it. My wife and I took a Green Line Tour of Assisi with them, several conditions were NOT specifically outlined as the English speaking tour in which we signed up for was now a Spanish & English tour which became redundant and took twice as long as it should have taken. The tour guide in Assisi obviously had phallic issues as he was stopping at a salami store window comparing 2 different salami's to bull testicles, not amused, nor was it funny. And to continue with the return trip our bus driver, and this please note was a very large bus - decided it was fine to drive the bus on the highway over 90 miles an hour weaving in and out of highway traffic. This did not stop even throughout the city streets which you all know are pretty busy at 7:00 P.M. - I subsequently e-mailed the next day complaining and asking for an answer - still nothing and that was 1 1/2 weeks ago. We took a one day tour from Rome to Capri. The tour was extremely poorly run and the tour director had no personable skills. He talked in a monotone and gave very little information. He also gave you critical information at the last minute. He herded us like cattle, literally running us through the Naples shipping terminal to be able to catch the ferry to Capri. There were elderly people and people with children on this tour as well. He never held up anything for us to be able to see him in a crowd. He lost one woman on the island of Capri and still didn't seem to learn to keep track of his large group. The ferry, shuttle buses, etc. on Capri were extremely crowded and he never prepared us for this. They also gave very little time to be able to do anything. Essentially you could do 1 thing and that was it and it that was cutting it close. The provided lunch was sub-par as well at the restaurant in Anna Capri. Worst pasta in Italy should have been its name. Will absolutely never take another tour from Green Line Tours! read more

The tour was good but be sure to ask about difference between Vatican City and Vatican Museum. The museum is a different bus and once you step a foot off the bus there are Indian men who are very pushy and rude who yell at you stating you can't get in without them. My husband and I were in Rome last week and were very interested in taking the "Illuminated Rome" bus tour, as Green Line was the only company we could find with a night time bus tour of Rome. We found their brochure in the lobby of the Olympic Hotel, where we were staying. The brochure states that there is an option for hotel pickup, so just to confirm that, I called the company to make sure that they do in fact pick up at the Olympic Hotel. I was told by the lady on the phone that, no, they do not pick up from that hotel. So I asked if there were any hotels nearby ours that you do stop at. Her answer wasn't clear, but I ended the call and discussed with my husband. We decided that it was too far for us to walk to the agency where the bus was leaving from, but he wanted to clear up where the hotels were that they do offer pickup at to see if there was one closer that would be a shorter walk for us. He called again and spoke with the same woman who was incredibly rude. He asked, "I'm wondering if you could tell me which hotels you pick up from for the Illuminated Rome tour." The lady from Green Line snapped back at him and said, "I already told your wife! We don't pick up from your hotel!" She didn't answer his question, was presumptuous and short with him and had a very rude tone and bad attitude. He didn't want to deal with such poor customer service, so rather than asking the question again (since she did not answer it), he just said "Thank you. Goodbye." and hung up. We decided that since there was no hotel pickup offered, and especially with such horrible customer service, we would absolutely not take the Illuminated Rome tour or any other tour through Green Line for that matter. Had the woman been more helpful and friendly, we would have considered making arrangements to get to their agency for the tour. Instead, she was incredibly rude and didn't help us on either phone call, and so Green Line lost any business from us. read more

ATTEMPT 2- EQUALLY BAD BUT FOR DIFFERENT REASONS AWFUL TOUR. * Poor client interactions/RUDE/unwilling to help *Waste of time- they make you wait nearly an hour sitting on the bus between being picked up and the tour actually starting. * Their tour office has no toilet, after waiting nearly an hour both of my sons were needing to go to the toilet but they would not allow a toilet break even though there were toilets at the Collosseum. They made them wait nearly 3 hours for access to a toilet. * The guide complained to all of the rest of the group what a problem the family with a pram were to accommodate (behind the family's back when she sent them to a accessible entrance)- rude/inconsiderate. * The Collosseum commentary was not very good information/commentary ( I could have done more) and I spent the whole time stressed about losing my kids/trying to keep up with the group as she kept disappearing into the crowd. There was no checking that she had everyone- just telling all they had to keep up. * Bus very uncomfortable * Treated us like cattle being milked for money. * very short and unsatisfying visit to the Collosseum then fillers at free sites for 3 or more hours to try (unsuccessfully) give the impression we were getting something for our money: - Capitoline Hill (been there/done that/crap commentary/still no access to toilets) - half an hour at a café where guide was obviously getting a kick back. - a long time out the front of the church with a hard-sell of a book/funnelled to a souvenir stand where guide obviously got a kick-back -nearly an hour in a church that had NOTHING to do with the Imperial Rome theme - Did not point out many of the things mentioned in the tour description (let alone visit) e.g. Baths of Caracalla I am very upset at how poor their customer service was and the extremely poor quality of their Collosseum/Imperial Rome tour (we truly would have been better off waiting in the line and entering the Collosseum privately as we would have been able to spend longer inside and actually see it properly and the rest of their 'tour' was useless. Several other tour clients expressed equal anger/disappointment and left before the end of the tour in anger. The bad omen of being ditched by them within 2 minutes of arriving on the first tour attempt at the Collosseum was foreshadowing what turned out to be an awful tour even with attempt 2. Attention: no air conditioning in the cars that they pick you up from the hotel. Also they first take you to a point where you pay and then transfer you to a big bus with bigger crowd where the AC on the bus is not working and you have to wait 10-15 minutes for it to be cooled. They are very rude. They tell us oh it was only 5 minutes and actually it was 15 because of traffic. Then they say oh anyway they keep opening and closing the door because they pick up passengers on the way so we should not be so hot. But actually that wasn't true either. Finally they told us anyway pick up was free. However hotels advertise it as full service with pick up and it's included in the price. Then they say we could cancel after we are soaking wet in our sweat. All in all it was a disaster and people don't speak English well and keep saying " I don't understand". Just choose another tour company. The green line should be renamed as red line. read more

Unless you have 14 hours to get grouped with multiple other tours to travel 2 hours each way for a two hour tour, don't waste your money. Even at the beginning of the tour they claim you leave by 7a.m., travel 2 hours to your destination, have a tour, then lunch, then back to your hotel by early afternoon. Not so, they pick you up at 7, then pick up more tour groups, drop other tour groups off at their destinations then take you to multiple businesses you don't have any plans or want to waste an hour at or buy their wares, have lunch for an hour and a half with six hundred other tourists packed into the day, get to your destination by 2:30, leave by five, pick up all of the other tour groups at their destinations and get told you will be back by 9pm. It took longer to see a site less than two hours away than it did to fly from half way across the world. I would recommend renting a car and going by yourself WHEREVER this group charges people to get imprisoned to visit. Not worth the time or money. I'll never get that whole day back. read more

It seems everywhere you turn in Rome someone in a "staff" vest is pushing the hop on hop off service. Our experience with Green Line was horrible. They dropped us off at the colosseum at 11am and never came back to pick us up. No representatives to explain what was happening, no answer of their phones. We were on our own to find our way back. Plenty of people to sell and collect money, sadly none for customer support. The free wifi was non-existent, the headphones didn't work, and the address system that the bus driver used made fast food drive up windows seem like concert halls. Its hard to ruin a day in Rome, but they severely messed this one up. I strongly recommend you use someone, anyone else. read more

This bus tour experience is awful! The seats are uncomfortable, the tour guides are INCREDIBLY rude and the bus constantly kept us waiting for more than 10 minutes. The day started off sketchy when the guy who sold us the tickets said he didn't take Visa (yeah right) but we payed in cash anyway. We were able to get on the bus but then they stopped at the Roma termini train station (one of their stops) and we sat stopped in the sun for 15 minutes for no reason! No one was getting on or off and the driver and your guide were just chatting on the first floor of the bus. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR LINE. This was terrible. We did the hop on hop off tour of Rome which we purchased at our hotel. It was hot out and they had no Air Conditioning. I was on the lower deck and it was disgustingly hot, sweaty and miserable. It takes a lot for me to complain but I got up and asked the lady to turn on the AC cause it was so hot. She said there was none. We ended up getting to the upper deck which was better and had fresh outside air. The audio recording is a brief brief brief summery of what you will see and they didn't even play it at the right time or when the landmarks were in view. Don't use this company. 0 out of 5 stars. This was the worst city tour that we have ever done. My wife and I usually take an open air tour of whichever city we are in at the time. This company decided to take a half hour break (without notice) at a stop in the middle of the tour. Then they went on to take another stop later on to have a coffee and snack break without any notice and on two other stops the driver decided to come up top and sweep the few leaves off the upper floor. We were not the only customer that had an issues with them. While we were sitting at the stop waiting for the woman to get back with her coffee and snacks another customer came down and complained too. On top of that they did not stick to the map that they gave us nor did the audio match up with the streets we were on. We decided we wanted our money back so I naturally wanted to proof to the company that they were not doing what they should be doing so I took a picture of the drivers assistant on her way back to the bus with her coffee and snacks. She gave me the nastiest looks ever as well as talking bad (or at leas what I could pick up when they spoke in another language) about us to the driver. When we finally got to the last stop, I took pictures of the bus (to show which operators were on the bus) and the driver got out and yelled at me. The police that were standing by even took notice of this. Later when we went to get our money back from the main office at 3pm, they told us to come back tomorrow because the only person that could do the refund was gone for the day. They said that his hours are from 8:30-1 and his lunch ends at 2 and he leaves at 2:30. This is unacceptable service from any company. I would not recommend this company to anyone and would say that anyone with any issue should demand a 100% refund. If there was a way I could give them 0 stars I would. Green Line's "English Speaking" Vatican tour was run by a woman who absolutely could not communicate in English, and when our group discovered among ourselves that no one (Canadians, British, Irish and Americans) could understand a word she was saying, she scolded us for being rude to her when several in our group asked her to speak more slowly. She was horrible, and most of us in the tour group simply unplugged our headsets and toured on our own. Not much value for the money we paid. read more

Horrible is the only word I can describe my experience with Green Line Tours. My mom and I paid a lot of money to go down to Capri with them for 13 hours. It took us 16 hours for the whole day. We did not get back to our hotel until 11 at night, and we had to walk back to the closest point on which they could drop us off. They dropped us off at an unknown plaza and told us to walk back without giving us any sense of direction on where to go. I also just want to repeat this, it was 11 at night, in a foreign country in the dark, where neither of us speaks Italian in an unknown location to us. Thankfully we had a map with us our hotel gave us and found our way back. The bus ride there was interesting to say the least. The tour guide from Green Line would switch between English and Spanish. We had a 20 minute stop at a little cafe an hour outside of Rome both ways on our trip, but the 20 minutes was more like 30. She explained some of the history we were driving in the country side, but went on a 30 minute rant fully in Spanish without switch over to English. And during that whole time she was only talking about what you could buy at the different stops a long they way (do they get endorsed to do this or get a percentage of the money they get?). It didn't bother me since I'm fluent in Spanish, but it pissed off the only English speaking people which is understandable. Also she mumbled a lot of her words and I had a hard time understanding both languages. At the end of the tour, she got off the bus before all the passengers got home and everyone was clapping and cheering when she finally left the bus. In Naples, we met up with another tour guide who was going to show us around Capri. Pino was his name. He only gave us a 10 minute lesson of the difference between Capri and Anacapri, the rest was about what we could buy on the island. He also was very rude to us when we would ask questions about what the plan was for the day. He never took time to learn anyones name he would only yell 'green line' when we were moving. When we asked for more history of the island he yelled at us saying he already told us the important stuff when we landed. How is telling us what to buy the important stuff? Again the idea of the company getting kickbacks was going through everyones mind. Our tour itself was also a disaster. We didn't have one. We paid in advance to go see the Blue Grotto, and we were told that we would see it before lunch. But once we arrive in Capri we were told that the lines were "too long" and Pino said we would "see" if we were able to go after lunch. This upset several people. When we asked if we would get refunded if we did not go to the Blue Grotto he became defensive. We did go after lunch and the only good thing about going on this trip was being able to see that. We had an hour free time to wonder around the top of Anacapri by ourselves without any direction of what to go see or do. The restaurant we went to for lunch (included in our pricing) was sub par at best. Just average food. My favorite thing there was the bread we had on our table. Everything else was just frozen food reheated for us served family style. We also had to pay for our drinks, which ended up being 8 Euros for a little bottle of peach wine. The lack of organization was what annoyed me the most on this trip. We had to wait 45 minutes just to get a bus down to the Blue Grotto and wait another 20 minutes in line with everyone else to go and see it. Since we had to prepay these tickets, I am confused on why didn't we get to cut the lines and have everything already planned out? It also took us another 45 minutes after seeing the Blue Grotto to meet up with the group who didn't pay for the tour. I feel sorry for them because I am unsure on what they did during those hours. The two different tour guides we had, had no communication between them making us miss our scheduled boat to Naples to go home on. Overall just do not go here unless you want to waste money and waste a day of your time in Italy. Also still know nothing about the history of Capri. read more

My husband and I booked a tour with Green Line tours for the Vatican. This lady tour guide sped through the Vatican, becoming frustrated with an elderly couple from Australia who did not navigate the steps fast enough for her. I fell behind because a child fell down in front of me, with all the commotion and congestion I looked up for the tour guide and her blue flag and she was gone. My husband let her know I was caught in the crowd - her response was - I have to finish this tour and don't have time to wait - she grabbed my husband's headset and continued on the tour. This meant we would miss our bus ride back to the hotel, this meant we would miss the Sistine Chapel tour. Worse, I could not find my husband for the next four hours after the Vatican closed - fortunately we survived the ordeal but Green Line Tour should be put out of business by the city of Rome. Very unprofessional, total lack of customer service, and what information was provided by the tour one could read in a brochure - DO NOT USE this COMPANY! read more

Our family of four was in Rome, Italy in July. We decided to take a Green Line tour in Rome to visit the Roman Forum and Colosseum. From the moment we stepped on the tour bus, we could sense that this was not going to be a great experience. The tour guide conducted a few, brief descriptions in four different languages- none of which were audible. When we arrived at the first stop, the guide moved very quickly, with no regard to where the tourists were. You could not hear a single thing that he was saying. We stopped briefly at the Forum and he said , "take a minute for pictures and return to this spot". Little did we know that he literally meant a single minute because when we turned around he was nowhere to be found. My daughter ran ahead, only to catch a glimpse of his flimsy flag on a short pole. We had to all run quickly to catch him before the bus took off for the Colosseum. When we did reach the bus, I asked if he could slow down and why he wasn't keeping track of the group(several others were still behind). He told me he wasn't responsible for us. Infuriated, I asked him again why we would need to be identified with a Green Line tag if he felt no need to be responsible for the group. He insisted it wasn't his responsibility. When we arrived at our next stop, he gave us a whopping five minutes. When we were back together, he counted the number of people and although we were three people short he said "let's move on". At our final stop, the Colosseum, he did not have the tickets and we had to wait for him to scramble inside to secure tickets. Once inside, he spent about five minutes with us and said meet back at the bus in 30 minutes. Needless to say, we did not get back on the bus and felt as if we'd paid a small fortune just to get a bus ride! Do not use this company!!!
