Yes, we did see real landmarks - Fox Theatre and the Georgian Terrace, + a couple more - but the Fox tale was pure fluff and nothing about the Terrace or any of the others was remotely eerie. We mostly stood around on a slow Monday night and watched delivery robots up and down the streets that were more interesting than the tour. No sources, no access, no atmosphere. Also, the "tour guide" told us it's rumored that Wayne Williams of the Atlanta Child Murders took some of the boys he killed to St. Mark United Methodist Church on Peachtree St. and briefly left them there in the basement before he disposed of their bodies. She then went on to say that the church now holds children's services in the same part of the church and that it's "creepy." Give me a break. I've lived in Atlanta for a quarter century and have researched that case extensively, and I've never heard of anything so ridiculous until now. There's also nothing online to support it. If you're expecting legitimate stories, a little theater, or even one genuinely spooky stop, this isn't it. Cut the sales pitches, pick actual sites we can experience, and tell fewer, better stories with citations. Until then, hard pass.

I wouldn't say it was "comedy" as much as it was a witty, funny tour guide that liked to make a few wise cracks along the way. We loved it. The route must be known by the locals, as many folks on the streets seemed to know the Funny Bus and would wave and smile as we drove by. We had a fun group, and we mostly enjoyed meeting some new people and having some fun with those folks. We learned some things and had some laughs along the way. Would totally recommend. And yeah - it was a hot day, but we really didn't think it was bad on the bus - the open-air style (no windows, really) allowed air to flow through and keep things comfortable enough.

A group of 11 Yelpers went on Alpharetta Tours' HOWLpharetta Ghost Tour this past Thursday night…read more(9/5). Thanks to Yelp OTP intern Sarah G. for organizing (http://www.yelp.com/events/alpharetta-uye-alpharetta-food-truck-alley-and-howlpharetta-ghost-tour). We were originally scheduled to do the ghost tour on August 8, but forecasted inclement weather at the time postponed our event. The day of the originally scheduled event, I received a phone call from Alpharetta Tours informing me of the event postponement. I also received an email with a new set of tickets. The process was handled well. Tickets were $12 per person. We got a special group rate. The regular price is $15 per person. We met up with Jen Hunt, owner/operator of Alpharetta Tours, around 8:15pm in front of the Dodd Hotel in historic downtown Alpharetta. This was just around nightfall. The tour lasted about 2 hours and it was a walking tour. Bring comfortable walking shoes! Jen was a really cool tour guide. She's a history buff and you can tell she knows her stuff, especially when it comes to the City of Alpharetta. She has done her research. The HOWLpharetta Ghost Tour can kind of be thought of as two tours in one: (1) a history tour of Alpharetta and (2) a ghost tour. We learned a lot about many of the buildings in downtown Alpharetta -- what they used to be, who used to live/work in them, etc. We learned that Old Roswell St. used to be the main thoroughfare through town. We learned that Native Americans used to be shackled, transported barefoot, and buried in the surrounding area. The HOWLpharetta Ghost Tour is more of walking, educational, and historic tour more than anything else. If you're looking for a scary, haunted house experience, then you'll probably be bored. We spent a good amount of time at each stop. Jen gave us more than enough information on the history and backstory behind many of Alpharetta's historic sites and buildings. We learned about multiple prominent families in Alpharetta's history, such as the Dodds and Webbs. The tour involved a lot of walking and standing. Most of us were tired at the end, both because of the walking/standing and because it was the end of a long (week)day. We stayed within a 2-mile radius of the downtown area. Most of the walking was done on paved surfaces such as sidewalks and asphalt. However, there was one part where we were behind an old cotton mill (IIRC) and were walking in the dark on gravel. Speaking of the dark, a flashlight would prove useful, though it's not necessary. We visited many closed/empty storefronts, businesses, and houses (with permission). We also visited the nearby local cemetary, Resthaven Cemetary. I have never seen nor experienced a ghost or paranormal activity in my life, but I don't rule out the possibility of these entities existing. However, I do tend to be a skeptic. I find the whole "orbs" thing to be funny. Jen explained that if we snapped a photo and saw orbs in our photo, that the orbs represent young spirits unable to fully manifest themselves yet. I personally think these orbs are just specks of dust or other matter flying in the air or perhaps light reflecting strangely through the camera lens. I did get some nice shots of orbs. She told a lot of corny ghost jokes. I couldn't believe how many she had in her repertoire. Before going on the tour, be sure to read the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) on Alpharetta Tours' web site. It has a lot of useful and helpful info. There are no restrooms on the tour route, so be sure to go before you start the tour. Also, you may get bitten by a mosquito or two, so you might consider putting on some insect repellent. Finally, be sure to tip your guide at the end, especially if you had fun. We had fun because of our guide and because of the company.

We emailed back and forth so much that I felt like we were friends! :) First of all, she is adorable -- corny jokes and all -- and I was really impressed with her knowledge of the history of Alpharetta. She's not only been thorough in her research, but I can't believe she's memorized all of that. She's a great storyteller. As far as paranormal activity, I'm a skeptic, but I'm also easily spooked, so I thought this would be a really fun activity. Plus you get a bit of exercise walking around! I definitely saw some stuff, or at least think I did. Moving mirrors inside of buildings, flickering lights, etc. It was just the right amount of spooky. Even if you go and don't see anything, there's still lots of creepy stories to be heard! My only complaint, and this has nothing to do with the tour itself, is that there were still a fair amount of people out/cars driving by/etc. from 8:30-10:30. It might've had to do with the fact that we went on a Thursday after Alpharetta Food Truck Alley, but I would have loved a darker, quieter setting just to enhance the mood. Plan a private tour and get 10+ of your friends together (or plan a UYE like I did!) for a group discount. I'm sure the public tours are great, too, and they're every Friday and Saturday night. I should be a shame of not knowing more about the town I lived in. The historian the rides along was great and took time to point out most of the hot spot on the tour. Wished there had been more time on the tour to exit the buss and shoot some pictures. Our next trip back home will be spent driving our selves to some of these places. In today's world where people are trying to erase history instead of embracing it, this is a tour you must take!! They are doing some improvements and adding some more sights so we will have to take this again on our next time out.

We got help from staff at their own site daycare center and everyone was so friendly and hospitable that a shuttle service was radioed to pick us up and dropped us off in-front of the building where the tour was scheduled -- TOTAL SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY HANDS DOWN! FIRST: We checked in with security upon arrival and received a radio and lanyard. SECOND: We were brought into a room with other guests for an opening movie where we got to hear a bit of back story on the company. Our Tour Host: Evan Hodges was GREAT & Very Informative!!! THIRD: LET THE TOUR BEGAN!!! Saw the Test Kitchen and "the Nest" which is their training center. Got to see Chick-fil-A's History Museum which included old school cars and the Original BAT MOBILE!!! Four of us purchased the LivingSocial for the easy hike. None of us had been hiking in Georgia…read morebefore, so we thought this might be a nice introduction. When I contacted the outfit for scheduling and requesting an easy hike on a Saturday, Dante (the guide and the person behind the company, I think) emailed back letting me know there would be an easy hike on the following Sunday. We figured that was fine, even though that meant skipping church and doing something that would take several hours on the day before we're all supposed to be back at work. I read these other two reviews and got a little nervous, so I tried to prepare everyone in the group. We brought additional food with us. First, I get really hungry. Second, I'm vegetarian and I figured that wouldn't necessarily be accommodated, so I didn't bother to ask.. Also, I had to not let the spelling and punctuation in the emails bother me. So I got over that. Thursday before the hike, we got an email letting us know we would be doing our hike at Virginia Bryant State Park in Royston, GA and the wine tasting at Boutier Winery, about 12 miles away from the park. He also told us what he was bringing for lunch, and told us to bring our own water. I thought that specificity was helpful. That state park is 90 miles away from Atlanta, so we carpooled and gave ourselves plenty of time. We found the group pretty easily (just drive toward the ranger station and look for a group of people). The guide is really nice and friendly. He had us all introduce ourselves. During the hike, he also walked his way up and down the line of folks, making sure to talk to everyone, and, I think, keeping track of folks so no one was left behind. We stopped twice so people could have water and a snack (that we brought ourselves - that wasn't provided) and so we could take some photos. Our group paced together pretty well, so staying together was easy. We had lunch together at a covered area in the park. He set out the food (wraps, turkey, mustard, carrots, arugula, kale, dates, pomegranates). It was the perfect hiker's lunch, light, not too much. I didn't really need to have brought additional food for the meat-eaters. I did have my own no-meat sandwich. We then drove over in a caravan to the winery. We got the six tastes, which were pretty generous pours. We could have paid for additional tastes or glasses of wine. The wine was pretty decent. Previous encounters with Georgia wines had been with wines made of muscadine, which is super-nasty. This stuff was all right. I would never pay $95 for this, but it was fine for $39. Now that we know about that park and winery, we can do it on our own. I would recommend this for folks who are hesitant about hiking alone or don't know the area.
