Wonderful time walking around Midtown with guide, Nick. There were ten of us, and we were eager to try the food scene. Nick was a lifer in Atlanta and knew the area and it's history. In between historical tidbits we stopped at nice restaurants and tried fabulous foods and drinks. The first stop was a neighborhood grill. Another was a whiskey bar. Third stop was a Spanish gastro bar. Dessert was at another neighborhood spot. All dishes were plentiful with nice presentations. Some plates were individual servings, and some we shared. It worked beautifully, and we were stuffed. Nick talked a lot as he knew his program and could answer our questions. Highly recommend. Plan three to four hours. Dress for the weather as we ate dessert outside in November. I believe a disabled person could enjoy this, tho lots of walking. Check with the tour office as all tours are different. read more

The four stars are for the tour--fun group of people (didn't know them before the tour), great tour guide (wealth of knowledge). She was friendly, chatty, and fun to be around. A tad bit of some of the information felt like marketing for some of the area restaurants. At one point, we got a full dissertation on the happenings in the bar but it wasn't somewhere we stopped. The food and drink were average, hard to even give them thee stars. The restaurants received us as more of an afterthought than an expected guest--no seating at one, long wait at another. I recommend this tour but don't expect anything great with the food and drink. read more

The Midtown Atlanta Food and Cocktail tour was ok.The host Justin was hospitable and fun. My only flaw was it wasn't all cocktails, which is misleading especially after I called for clarification. One stop we were served beer,another stop was Sangeria. No substitutes were allowed and for that amount of money it should be. I enjoyed our food tour through Peachtree Food Tours. As a local Atlantan, having lived in Midtown for 17 years, I learned interesting facts about my city that I never knew and I visited two restaurants in my neighborhood that I hadn't been to yet. This was the first (and so far only) food tour I've been on. Normally when I travel, I pick out the restaurants I want eat at from recommendations from friends/family, Yelp, social media, etc. With Peachtree Food Tours, John Hannula (the friendly and knowledgeable founder, owner, and host) picks all the destinations for you. In addition to picking where you'll be eating, he also picks what you'll be eating (with any allergies and dietary restrictions in mind). He takes care of the bill at each business. All you're responsible for is the ticket price which, at the time of writing this review, is $100 (plus fees) per person. The ticket price is steep, but it's fair when you consider what it includes. In our group's case, it included food and drink, including some alcoholic beverages (optional), at five different places in Midtown plus five hours of John's time. This is actually more than just a food tour. It's a historical tour as well. John lives in Midtown and knows the neighborhood inside-out. Along with showing you some of the best food and drink the City of Atlanta has to offer, he drops some fascinating history, news, and tidbits along the way. For example, did you know George Clooney filmed a commercial at the Georgian Terrace hotel? I went on the Saturday, April 8th, 2017 tour. There was a group of six of us plus John. The tour max is eight. The tour started at approximately 9:45am and ended at approximately 2:45pm. We walked over two miles in Midtown beginning and ending at the same point on Peachtree Street. John is thorough. He sent me an email and called me before the tour to confirm details on meeting time, meeting place, where to park (free parking), the weather and what to wear (he generally advises to dress for 10 degrees below the Atlanta weather forecast due to the shade of the Midtown highrises and the breeze), and to remind me to eat a very light breakfast. Our group first starting eating around 10:30am, so some folks may want to skip breakfast entirely. After the tour, John sent me a thank you email that included, among other things, pictures he took of us during our adventure. I'd love to reveal all the stops on our tour, but John likes to keep an element of surprise to it. Some of the other Yelp reviews reveal the routes from previous tours, but our route was different. The type of establishment we visited and the food and drink served to us were eclectic. We didn't know what was going to come next. We left full and had a couple bags of food to take home. The tour moved along at a leisurely pace. I'm a slow eater and at no point did I feel rushed to finish my food and head to the next stop. The walks were more like strolls with multiple short breaks. The breaks involved John imparting his wisdom (e.g. the historical significance of a certain building, restaurant recommendations, etc.). If you're a foodie visiting Atlanta from out of town, I think this is a great tour because it hits some of the more classic and popular restaurants, bars, cafes, and bakeries in town. If you're a local, this is a fantastic opportunity to explore on foot and connect more with your city. There are several restaurants I now want to visit (or return to) thanks to this tour. What a great experience to spend half a day being a tourist in one's own city. I've lived here for a couple of years but was entertained by John and his stories of various parts of the city. I even more enjoyed restaurant-hopping! We started at the North Marta station, very easy to locate. Paid parking is not difficult to find across the street. It also is reasonably priced but may be higher on days that the Fox Theater has events. On certain days, parking is free on the street. I've had my car stolen in this area before so do not put valuable belongings in the car. Our group was a perfect size of 7. It was small and intimate enough for people to get to know each other. John made everyone feel welcomed and engaged us throughout the whole trip. He is very personable and a good and enthusiastic storyteller. We walked at a good pace to several destinations, some to sight-see, some for interactive fun (spinning rock), and mostly to sample different restaurants. We admired the outside of one Church, got exclusive entrance to another. Our first food stop was The Varsity. It has been around for so long that it is only right to go there. I tried fried pie and slush for the first time. I am not normally a fan of desserts and sweets but these were not too sweet. As I will find later on, the sharing portions were small/big enough to give me a good preview but not fill me up. Next up was Livingston's restaurant in the gorgeous Georgian Terrace hotel across from the Fox Theatre. The day was nice and it was fun to see the moderately busy traffic around the Theatre and area. John had everything planned out well in advance. The restaurant expected us and we were seated immediately in our reserved table with a view of the Fox. The shrimp and grits were succulent, juicy, and flavorful, and paired well with Riesling wine. I don't react well to alcohol but a few sips of this was worth it. We next strolled to Cypress Street Pint & Plate which could easily be missed if one is driving down the main large Peachtree Street. Again, the plate was paired with alcohol tasting (which I don't do but John was considerate and offered me other non alcoholic drinks instead). I was very impressed with the way they used a donut for "buns" for their burger. The donut added a slightly sweet taste to this juicy burger. Again, it was a nice sampler before moving on to the next. I was a bit worried that I would need to pace myself to not be hungry at the end but I soon found out that there were plenty more stops and samples that I would not be at risk of overstuffing myself or left hypoglycemic. We went to Villians next and I was a bit doubtful about the place since I've tried it once before and was not a big fan. However, we tried their twist of the kale salad and it was the best vegetable dish I have ever sampled! If mom had made these greens, I would come back more often. I was very content and pleased that John was introducing me to new things with twist on old items. We also took a gander inside Sweet Hut, a bakery with sweets and drinks. Be quick because this is a quick stop. John paced the tour very well so that we wouldn't be late for reservations. I was about to see that John carefully picks his restaurants and that I would get to try plenty of "southern food". We went deeper away from the main Peachtree Street to find Max's wine dive. The fried chicken was so juicy and tender that I could not remember when I last had such great tasting chicken! I was adequately full at this point but could not refuse a little sweet reward at... Cafe intermezzo! I think this is worth the price for someone who wants to tour a piece of Atlanta, and who would want to spend half a day on a leisurely stroll, hearing about the history of Atlanta from a charismatic guide. We selected Peachtree Food Tours for our anniversary outing as they were the highest rated tour in Atlanta at the time. On our tour we had 6 folks total which is just under the tour maximum of 8. Our tour guide, John, shared that keeping the number small helps to add an intimate aspect which we agreed with. The four other guests were from out of town and we're local to Atlanta. Though my husband was born and raised in Atlanta, he hadn't been to any of the stops on the tour, so it was a pleasure to enjoy stops that are Atlanta classic as well as some that we hadn't heard of. Along the way, John also shared the wide range of history of Midtown from the 1800's to present day. He's very knowledgeable about the trends, turn overs of restaurants, and the pulse of the Midtown community. John is super friendly and receptive to feedback as well as asking questions. He does a wonderful job of making you feel relaxed and really focusing in the moment during the tour. The tour is pretty slow paced to give you time to digest and take in the history of Atlanta through John's story's, photographs, and anecdotes. I promise you, your stomach will thank you for that extra time. In all, we thoroughly enjoyed four out of the five locations that John took us. The first one was by far our favorite which included a seasonal apple cider and a perfectly cooked burger with cheddar, bacon, caramelized onions atop a Sublime Cake Donut. At first thought you'd wonder hmmmmm...that sounds like too much is going on here. However, it worked well together since the donut was not as sweet as a Krispy Kreme donut, but more pillowy with a light sweetness. Without revealing all of the locations on the tour, I would say there was a wide range of the types of food and the types of alcohol that we enjoyed. The dishes were a combination of sweet and savory ones while a few of the stops, we were able to pick options that were personalized to what we liked. At others, everyone enjoyed the same meal. The only drawback to the tour was the final non dessert option. The selection of bruschetta at the Italian place seemed like it wasn't on par with the other options since this is more of an appetizer. As well, since it includes a lot of bread, this seemed like it wasn't a natural flow from the previous destination (which included bread) and the following two destinations which included cakes and pastries. Warranted pasta would have probably been equally as heavy at this location, but the bruschetta didn't seem as heavily thought out as the other choices. This is just my personal opinion though. Questions you may have: Will I get enough food? My husband and I are pretty big foodies and we were both pretty full towards the end. And then the final stop was a location with take home pastries and desserts. The amounts given at the locations are not full entrees, but they are enough for you to get a good feel of how the item tastes and to satiate your palate. Additionally, the stops included optional alcoholic beverages with walking in between which allowed time for your food to settle before stuffing your face with more. What will we eat? John sometimes varies the tour depending upon the restaurant's availability at the time when he calls ahead (which is a nice element so that you don't have to wait). Tips: Wear comfortable shoes and pick a day that's likely to have nice weather. Be open to try new things. Eat a very light breakfast (piece of fruit). We would certainly recommend (and already have recommended) this tour to others and told them about how great it is. John is super knowledgeable and has a true love for his work. read more

How well do you know Midtwon? Did you know Varsity is largest drive-in in the world? And the folly you see next to the varsity is not really olympic flame? What was the first high rise building in midtown location? First doctor to use anesthesia? Did you know who is Phantom of Fox? These are some of the little tidbits I have learnt during our Peachtree Food tours with our fabulous host, John! Peachtree Food tours is food tour for restaurants in the midtown area of Atlanta! but calling it just the food tour doesn't do justice to what we have experienced. John has lived on peachtree in midtown for more than 15 years and he probably knows even stories behind every bricks in that neighborhood. He know every restaurant owners by name, history of the building, locations and how it changed over time and even down to who sponsored to build iconical buildings and churches. The tour started at the entrance of north ave station - and from there John has interwoven narratives, stories and food items and, yes you guessed it, more stories! Our first stop was at Varsity where we were treated with FO(Fresh orange) slush and fried pies! It's probably one of very few places where you can get fried pies. Very southern beginning! Our second stop was at Livingston's restaurant in the famous Georgia terrace hotel. Between varsity and GA terrace hotel there was so many churches, fine examples of high rise architecture buildings. We were treated with shrimp & grits and Riesling wine! I won't review much about food but lets just say, we generally liked everything we have tasted, throughout the tour. He pointed out ball rooms and the significance of the hotel over several decades and it's location being right across the street from Fox theater! Next stop was at Saint mark church and John explained the significance of the church in the community for not being conservative and pushing for progressive ideas. I won't give much details here, for that needs to be experienced with John explaining it! Then stopped at cypress street pint & plate joint and we were treated with draft beer and their famous donut burger with bacon and caramelized onions.(Not the whole burger but just a quarter each but given there are other places to taste food at, it's perfect portion size). If you ever get to the restaurant, it's a sin if you don't try that burger! Next stop was at Villains, where we were treated with one of best tasting kale salad I have ever put in my mouth! And we also had a drink that they call, 'Forbidden at turner field'. Why they call it, is something you need hear from the bartender herself! Have you ever had peanuts in coke? yeah, I didn't either! Then we wandered into Max's wine dive where we had one of the most succulent and tender fried chicken, paired with prosecco! And our last stop was at cafe intermezzo for coffee and dessert! We passed Margaret Mitchell house, spinning rocks, federal reserves and so many old buildings and John had stories about every one of those! I can't stress this enough but highlight of the tour is not the food but our guide John Hannula himself! He is full of energy and knows so much information only a keen observant local would know! He is witty, fun and presents his stories in cohesive manner - in nutshell, a great story teller. I bet his grand kids love having him around for that! He even had maps of old Atlanta and pictures of old buildings, it really gave unique perspective to us! The whole 3+ hours flew so fast but never felt rushed! The number 100 might scare some people off but it was on par with food tours with alcohol pairings in other cities(Not that there are much to compare with, in Atlanta) And We thoroughly enjoyed it! My boyfriend and I signed up for a Sunday tour with John. John is a friendly southern gent with a great sense of humor and a straight forward opinion of restaurants and attractions. He even went out of his way to make sure the restaurants were prepared for people in our group who had allergies and certain food intolerances. If you're traveling without little kids and have a free afternoon, you should definitely join one of his tours (some of the restaurants serve alcohol or are in more upscale locations, which is why I personally wouldn't bring my toddler or preschooler). Best food tour I have been on hands down . I am an avid foodie and four tour goer. This was my 7th food tour and 2nd food tour in Atlanta. I research a lot before going on a trip and came across John's wonderful company.His hospitality and willingness to be flexible was appreciated. He went above and beyond in the initial stages to coordinate a tour for myself and even went ahead and added another tour on a non- operating day so our singles cruise reunion people could be together. A few of our members even had to switch tour days which John handed with ease. He was very punctual , informative , and a great story teller. He offered outside help and asked us to call him for future recommendations. I learned a lot about MidTown Atlanta and the city's wonderful diversity of culinary offerings. I appreciated his communication with all of our members and with myself personally since I coordinated the tour. His welcome email was very refreshing and informative. He made us a ll laugh throughout the tour and had a welcoming, warm personality. The tour itself is perfectly balanced and very high end for foodies. The food selection is top notch and there are a few surprises along the way which I won't ruin :) One of my favorite spots was Einsteins (best shrimp and Grits) He was very open about his competition "Atlanta Food Walks" which I also took a tour from that week, but I can hands down say that John has the best tour and is ahead of his competition by a mile. We all felt like VIP and I never felt rushed at any of the stops. The walking pace and distance is well thought out. What a great tour! John is a real hometown expert, knows the area's history and shares it, and is especially knowledgeable about the area restaurants. We got a wide variety of food, from great burgers on donut buns paired with ale to shrimp and grits with a Mississippi Mule. My favorite stop was the Italian restaurant, where we had two types of bruschetta - classic fresh mozzarella and tomatoes and a very rich and delicious fig with blue cheese. Dessert was your choice of 50+ cakes, pies, or cheese cakes with coffee followed by a to-go stop at a local Vietnamese bakery. This is well-worth your time - about 4 hours in total - and money. This is, without a doubt, the best food tour I've ever been on. However, to call it just a food tour is an understatement. The three hour (beginning at 11:45 a.m.) plus walking tour (about 1 mile and limited to a maximum of 7 people) does include a variety of food and alcoholic beverage samples at 6 different locations, including on the day I went: The Varsity, the world's largest drive-in restaurant and a well known Atlanta institution (FO (frosted orange and fried peach pie); the Livingston at the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel (shrimp and grits w/andouille sausage and wine); Cypress Street Pint and Plate (probably the best hamburger I've ever eaten, with fries and a beer sample); Villains (a tasty kale salad and peanut infused bourbon and coke beverage); Max's Wine Dive (fried chicken, mashed potatoes and Prosecco); and finally Cafe Intermezzo for the dessert of your choice and coffee. Non alcoholic substitutions can be provided at each restaurant. But beyond the food and introduction to restaurants, it's as much a tour of the sights and history of midtown Atlanta. John Hannula, the owner and tour guide, and his wife have lived in midtown for 15 years, and he knows the area and its history like the back of his hand. Never boring, the conversation provides interesting and sometimes funny facts about the area and its residents, both past and current. John's personality, knowledge of food, restaurants, facts/interesting stories about the midtown area, and attention to his guests are all exemplary. In addition to the restaurants on the tour, he also identifies other restaurants in midtown and the greater Atlanta area that are worth a trip. Living in midtown myself, I was a bit unsure as to whether or not the tour would be for me. However, after taking the tour and learning new things about the area, I will recommend it highly to Atlantans and visitors alike and will definitely include the tour on my "must do" list for my out of town visitors. My husband and I live in Midtown Atlanta but learned of Peachtree Food Tours and decided it would be a fun date. We both enjoyed the tour immensely and cannot recommend it highly enough to locals and visitors alike. Even though we live here and have taken several different Atlanta tours, John shared history and information about the city that we had never heard before. John was extremely interesting and informative. The food and drinks served on the tour were all delicious and offered an excellent variety. When you consider the length of the tour (4.5 hours for our tour) and the amount of food and drink served, the price of the tour is well worth it. Peachtree Food Tour is one that I give my highest reccomendation too. John has the plans laid to perfection. John is so delightful and entertaining. The tour is excellent because of his accomodating service.The timeing is very well planned,and the eats include high-end varieties of delicious foods and are accompanied with marvelous cocktails. It's hard to choose my favorite,but I did love the fried green tomato at one place and the lobster pasta at another,and the unique sweets are all heavenly.The walking ratio to eating was spaced perfectly. All the restaurants and eateries immediately seated us and had our food brought out,as John knew the employees and had pre-arranged it each time. The employees really respect John and dote over his tour group members like VIPs. We learned of the differnt foods and wine and beverages at each sitting.Yumm! When you finish each tasting the walk is refreshing and just long enough to get you siked for the next food pairing. You never feel tired of walking and always have room for more treats. I didn't want it to end but as I ate my last desert and wrapped one for later,I knew it was time. Our tour lasted about 4 hours and the time was such a leisurely delight. I've been on tours--hundreds, if not thousands at this point--and a few food tours. Peachtree Food Tours is AWESOME! And it's so much more than a food tour. The groups are purposely small--a more personal experience. The tours are walking--Atlanta is gorgeous on a sunny day! There are multiple stops, each with a bite and a sip--you're not going home hungry or thirsty! And there's an informative side--John is a brilliant tour guide...I thought I knew Atlanta pretty well, but he's a true expert! And he's delightfully entertaining, too. We did everything from iconic fast food to luxury dining, we toured a church with gorgeous stained glass windows, and we played with Rock Spinner! And I'm told that now there's a "shopping" component to the tours. Guess I'll have to go again to find out the scoop on that. This tour is worth every penny and every minute (approximately 4 hours worth!). As anyone in Atlanta can tell you, the food scene is always changing, evolving, following and even creating trends. I enjoyed myself immensely, despite the fact that it poured rain for a portion of our tour - that's how good the proprietor/guide John is. He is a wonderful ambassador for Atlanta and its restaurants. It is apparent that he cares about his business and that his guests have fantastic experiences. His groups are small which allows for everyone to join in on the conversation and get all of their questions answered. I enjoyed the food on the tour, but there is more to this than just eating. I highly recommend you begin your stay in Atlanta with this tour. My daughter and I did this on a Friday and then walked to the High Museum of Art after the tour, as it stays open late on Fridays. There is so much to do in Atlanta! I hope I'm not hyping this tour too much, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to family and friends. It's a quality operation. read more

What a great way to spend a few hours touring Atlanta! This was only my 2nd time visiting the city and it was so delicious. I was only in town for 2 days. Not much time to get around to many places. John is the owner and tour guide for Peachtree Food Tours and my friend and I enjoyed every minute of our tour. John will tell you about the area, past and present. He gives the tour a very personal touch and you can tell he just loves his "job" if you want to call walking and eating work ;) The price was very fair for what you get. John took us to 3 main food restaurants and each was paired with an alcoholic beverage. I was open and willing to try new foods and drinks and I can honestly say I loved them all. It was a great variety of dishes. Plus we went to additional dessert places. I would 100% recommend anyone to go on this tour. You will walk around a bit. However, if my friend and I (both true Floridians) can do it on a freezing Snowy windy day, then it's worth it. Your taste buds will thank you.
