I felt the need to have a rum runner on my first ever trip to Key West, so opted for the Green Parrot. We did not eat any food, so this was merely a drinking experience. We loved the gritty, beachy vibe and had to also check out their souvenir shop while there. I loved my rum runner...very refreshing on a warm, humid day. We'd been here before years ago and had a great time! Today was a little different of an experience. We found two seats at the bar right away. We sat and waited about 10 minutes before the bartender came over to us. That was also after she went to 3 other parties that sat after us. She apologized and said she didn't realize who was seated first because she was cleaning the bathrooms! There was a second bartender that seemed too busy talking. The bartender that did take our order was short, rude and completely inattentive. We basically got the pretentious bartender vibe to the point we questioned why we were even there. We only stayed for one drink, but during that time we even had a conversation with the folks next to us about how bad the service was. I guess that is the one nice experience here, was we met some nice people. To top off our visit, the only time we were able to get our bartenders attention was for our check because she clearly wanted us to vacate our seats for a couple locals (who seemed very nice btw). We'll skip the nostalgic visit to this establishment the next time we visit Key West and we'll go to the thousand other bars that seem to want tourist business. read more

Green Parrot is an iconic bar. Its history dates back to 1890. This eclectic bar is loved by locals and tourists alike. Bartenders are friendly and can make a nice strong drink. There is usually live music. If there is no artist playing, be sure to select your favorite songs on the jukebox. Absolutely love the décor - it just a bunch of all sort of old school memorabilia. It's considered a dive bar; I consider it unique with a lot of Key West charm. The prices are fair. Happy hour is Monday through Thursday from 4 pm - 7 pm and Fridays from 4 pm until 5:30 pm. dirty establishment. bad bar service. bad drinks. came in just around midnight, place was almost empty. it looked like a frat party had just fled the scene. there was garbage all over the floors, trash & cups on numerous sticky tables. bartender looked at us and then kept talking on the other side of the bar so we walked to him. ordered 2 drinks - hendrix& soda. titos &lemonade ... the titos lemonade tasted like it had sour mix and tonic in it. very unsure what happen there. read more

Awesome dive bar! First bar on route 1 or the last bar going south all in how you look at it! The Green Parrot isn't fancy it's just a place you pull up a barstool and get to know your neighborhood bartenders. Live music and if you want to be in bed early (who are you?) they do an early sound check so you can get your live music fix while taking in all that is Key West! Close to the Truman Annex so within walking distance after a day at the beach! read more

Love the bar and atmosphere. Met some very nice people there. This place would be an easy 5-star if the two bartenders had even a remote sense of urgency. Took forever to get a drink and the place was not crowded. Pina Colada was great - margarita was average. Probably the coolest bars in Key West. It's a bar that most of the locals attend. Regardless of the crowd, the service from the bar staff is simply amazing. I went to the Green Parrot with my service dog, I was told that they do not allow service animals. I asked to see the manager to explain that he is a legitimate school trained service animal . I demonstrated comande in sign in front of the man claiming to be that manager while calmly explaining florida law as well as ADA federal laws. He told me that he did not care. I asked him what if I was in a wheel chair would I still be denied access. He said no he would roll me out into the smoking area (I am not a smoker ) another patron got involved and said that I was obviously a disabled military veteran (i am) and obviously have a legitimate service animal that is in good behaviors and positive control. The manager told him to mind his own buisnes. Other Veterans have told me that the dog had nothing to do with it and it had more to do with the veteran Hat that I was wearing. I would never go back and would never recomend it to anyone. They only get one star and that's because I can't post with less than one . read more

We were just in the Green parrot with a service dog. We were questioned about her 4 times. We have all the proper paper work for her being a service dog. And was hassled to the point of leaving. A classic, and historical dive bar in Key West. One of the fun things in Key West is to "buy a drink to use our bathroom". This is a vicious cycle that landed in me in this bar as I was trying to get to the Truman Little White House for a tour. I did take a moment to sit down and enjoy my beer at the bar. There were many longtime repeat customers there. I can tell this is a place that is dear to people's hearts when they are visiting. They don't serve food, but will make free popcorn! read more

By far, this bar was the highlight of my trip to Key West. It was my birthday and just the kind of vibe I was looking for. Divey, low key and just a great bunch of really cool people/locals that were out to have a chill night. If you are from Connecticut and reading this, it slightly reminded me of the The Roo Bar from back in the day. (RIP Roo Bar) The artwork and lighting all added to the feel of the Green Parrot. Check out some of my pics. It was the evening, so everything was lit in green. It was also what should have been Fantasy Fest that week, so this was a nice reprieve from the madness of Duval Street. It's set back a little and definitely worth checking out if you are looking for something off the beaten path. This would be my first destination if I am ever back in the Keys. No doubt! read more
