I called the night before to ensure all was set for the next day. The female on the other line was extremely helpful and gave me suggestions on how to better plan for my sisters surprise. To add to my satisfaction, the day of the massage was amazing! The took my sister in in time, treated her like a queen and Maria deceived one of THE BEST MASSAGES ever -was exactly what my sis said. My sis is expecting and has two months left. She said Maria knew EXACTLY what she needed. Massages all of her kinks and removed a lot of her discomfort with her magic hands. She didn't even use the tables available for pregnant mothers. Maria you as able to massage her appropriately while laying on her side. She helped with her aching head, neck, back and legs. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I wish I had seen a review like this beforehand so I could make a more informed decision. I completely understand the need for cancellation policies, especially for small businesses. However, this policy felt particularly inflexible, especially given that I was a first-time client dealing with a genuine emergency. What made the situation more frustrating was the lack of communication -- I reached out multiple times (via phone and email) and never received a reply. While I respect their need to protect their time, I do feel that a more compassionate and customer-focused approach -- especially for new clients -- could help foster long-term relationships. My masseuse thought she was my life coach. She asked me invasive personal questions in an attempt to give me advice, but said a bunch of BS like "you have to be brave with your body." When I told her something hurt she'd justify why she was doing it and keep going ("pain and pleasure go together"). She'd ask what I wanted her to do and then not really do it. At the end she asked me if I had been the masseuse, what would I have done and what techniques would I've used (what? leave me alone). She then tried to give me more personal life advice and I told her she doesn't know me at all and she started talking about how she hopes I find something to make me happy and that I go for it. "Disappointing" and "unprofessional" doesn't even begin to cover it. I booked my husband a 90 minute massage here after he had one of the most stressful weeks of work he's had in years. Seeing all of the positive reviews, I couldn't imagine that the experience would be anything but excellent. Disappointed to say the expectations were not met, and that's an understatement. 25 minutes in to my husband's massage, his masseuse, Carmela, asked "Do you mind if we shorten the massage to an hour?" Yes. Really. My husband naturally asked why, and she said, "I'm doing an herbal tea cleanse, and I'm starting to feel light-headed. I'll see if I can get you another masseuse." She leaves the room, comes back and says, "Sorry - there's nobody else available. I have to go to the bathroom. I can't finish. Go talk to the front desk." So my husband gets a 25 minute mediocre massage from a woman on an herbal cleanse who couldn't finish the job. They did issue a full refund but then had the audacity to be like, "10% off if you come in again!" Uh, hello? You should have offered a free 90 minute massage right away. No questions asked. Terrible business. So disappointed and frankly, furious. I don't recommend this place under any circumstances and Carmela should be fired. Edit/Update: As of the next morning after this horrendous experience, my husband is having trouble lifting stuff with his right arm, likely because the masseuse didn't know what she was doing. Ladies, please don't waste your time and money on a prenatal massage here. I booked last-minute and was excited to have some relaxation time, but it's not an exaggeration to say it was the most disappointing massage I've ever received. I don't think the masseuse had the right training, spa etiquette or equipment to provide a worthwhile prenatal massage. I asked her to make technique/setup adjustments so many times that eventually I told her to just stop altogether so I could get dressed and get out of a very uncomfortable situation. I've been to cheap as dirt $45/1hr places where they just rub you and leave you feeling like 'meh' to bougie places that are phenomenal but will set you back $200/1 hr. This place is right in that sweet spot.. licenses massage therapists that get into all those nooks n' crannies. It's cheaper because it's a no frills place, but with actual masseuses that know what they're doing. Can't wait to come back and try all of the other massage therapists! read more

Budget spa quality - prices don't match what you get. Cramped quarters with little soundproofing or climate control. Front desk requires training in customer service. They seem stressed out there which takes away from any relaxing atmosphere. Everyone is crammed into a tiny "reception" area which gives subway car vibes rather than the sense of tranquility that spas are supposed to offer. Ended up at Green Stone through an Amazon Local deal for a 60minute Swedish massage. It was the best I've ever had. Heat elements were incorporated throughout (hot towels, mask, boots after having feet massaged, a warm towel while doing mild stretches neck). The pressure was perfect, and I liked that he incorporated lights stretches throughout. I know people have written that it's hard to find, but I thought it was somewhat self explanatory. Navigate your way to the address listed and the entrance is part of that building just on the side. I called in the morning, got an answering machine, called back an hour or so later and was able to book the appointment for about 3 hours later! I'm sold :) Would gladly pay full price for this massage again. read more

I have back problems and I've been using Groupon for a while to find cheap massages, and found this place through them--$40 for any hour massage is a pretty good deal. But I was completely blown away here. After many massages all over the place, this is honestly the best one I've ever had. I've been back several times for the same massage therapist, a Spanish guy named Millan, who's absolutely amazing. He really understands the way the body works and massages and stretches exactly right so I actually walk away pain free and feeling great. Seriously, after a massage from Millan, you feel on top of the world. Not a convenient location, like the other reviews said, but it's really not too hard to find. Just go down the stairs or take the elevator. So, it's worth it to get the best massage in NY from Millan, but I wish he worked somewhere else. You get a weird vibe from the administrative staff who do all sorts of weird discount stuff, so if you figure out what works you can get a good deal, but somehow you sort of feel like you're being ripped off--it's a weird psychological thing when you pay different amounts of money for the same massage every time. I haven't been yet this month, but I think they're doing a flat rate $60 massage. And that's an awesome deal for an hour with the best masseur in NY. read more

I am finally writing this review, as an attempt to get over the selfish need I feel to keep Michelle all to myself. She is the best, and I should be happy to share her with the world (as long as she continues to have time for me). I have had many masseuses work on me over the years, but none of them have even come close to making me feel like the happy bowl of Jello I am when I leave Michelle. She warned me that I would be stalking her after the first session, and she was right. The lady is lucky I don't know her home address, or I'd be showing up there in the dead of nights asking her to work on my traps. I slept on an air mattress for two months and it completely messed up my back. I got the sticks and stones massage with Michelle and it was absolute heaven! The following weekend I had to drive 20 hours to move my old furniture from Minnesota to New York, and my back didn't give me any issues the whole drive because she was THAT amazing at massaging out all of my backs previous issues. So happy to have green stone in the neighborhood. The front desk is super friendly and accommodating. I've been twice in the past 2 weeks to see Millan. Having been to all the 'renowned' spas in NYC for services, I've never had someone really work on me the same way this therapist does. He's super attentive to what your stress areas may be and takes a lot of time and effort to work through them. If you want a fluffy massage, this is not the right place. They know what they are doing and focus more on healing while helping you learn how to relax. I loved the time and attention Millan offered after the services to provide thoughtful everyday tips in how to better manage my tension with regular stretching , icing and a focus on a more healthy routine. Maybe my god-daughter put this place too high on a pedal stool..I am a massage junkie I get one or two every month with or without a discount...Green Stone Spa customer service is wonderful and the decor of the place is very beautiful. The customer service was the nice lady who gave me the massage..I wont be back:( She seemed either new or that is just her technique, not for me..In the beginning she asked if I had any pains I told her my right shoulder was a little tight, she spent way too much time in that area and pressed so hard I had to tell her thats enough and now I am officially in pain..Also Im accustomed to whatever u do to one side of the body u do to the other side that was not the case she massaged one hand and not the other She massaged the back of my leg but did not touch the front. Milan, you are a wonderful, wonderful man! I came in with a few specific areas of tension that he worked on with a combination of massaging, hot stones and stretching. The stretching was amazing! He listened to my body and treated it accordingly, as opposed to going through the motions of a basic massage. Felt like butter after the session. I found my way to green stone spa through a groupon, Not being able to find any reviews about the spa i assumed they r knew so i gave them a try. let me just say how effing hard it was to find this place! The entrance to the building is on the side of the building and its supply confusing. the spa is location in the basement, the first thing that hits u when the elevator doors open is the smell of a mildew basement. its not refreshing at all lol. after u navigate through a small gym and punching bag that hangs dead center from the ceiling to get to the spa door, u walk into a very tiny but cute establishment. The workers r very professional and sweet. the day i went they only had 2 male massage therapists working, which made me a little uncomfortable at first but after we start it went great. The man "Milan" that worked on me was very good. Only gripe i had was he did the massage for only 45 mins while i paid for an hour session. i didn't complain about it because i felt good after he was done. A friend that came with me had also paid for an hour session and received a 45 min massage. If i paid there full 90$ price i would have been upset, but i paid 40 bucks so it didn't stress over it. in overall, i would recommend green stone only if u can get a 50% discount. they charge top end spa prices but its really not top class whatsoever. Before i left i was given a coupon for 70$ for another hour massage, to be honest with u i don't think that's enough for me to come back. the atmosphere isn't worth the money. their are a lot better spa's with great atmosphere's that charge the same or less. read more

However when I first called Michelle called back squeezed me in for an appt. then I told her I had a amazon deal and her whole attitude changed saying that normally they don't do deals on the weekends (which is a crock of sh8(7@?&?). This hidden little spa is a gem! Don't be fooled by the initial decor of the building (yes, they're in the basement and yes, walking down the stairs does intially gives off a slightly sketchy vibe), because once you get into the actual "spa," the visuals improve. The inside is lovely and light-colored and the individual rooms have draprd fabric ceilings like colorful tents. But let's talk brass tacks - service. I had THE BEST BRAZILIAN WAX EVER compliments of the lovely Lola. She was very nice and even better, knowledgeable. She knew her waxes (they use lavender and hard wax -- the type you normally only find at Bliss) and where to use each one. The entire process was practically painless (I had an Aleve 45 mins prior), took 20 mins, and I'm as shiny and hairless as a newborn! Better still, she completed things with some spritzes of a fancy oil (that removed any leftover stickiness) and a cozy hot towel. A place to lounge with your girlfriends it isn't; but way above your average nail/waxing spot, it definitely is! I'll be back (even without the Groupon). read more

I came in to get a massage here this week after purchasing a Groupon. I was a little annoyed that they didn't have weekend hours and the website wasn't helpful for setting up an appointment. But I finally made one for Friday. The place was somewhat difficult to find. They do have signs that you direct you once you find the building. The spa is in the basement. The set up is a little odd, and it's fairly small, but they said they're planning to move in December. I came in a little early and the guy at the front desk was very friendly and made sure to offer me water. The room where I had my massage was not really a room, as other people have mentioned. It was a little cold at times, even under the sheet. But the massage itself was great. I had a really amazing female masseuse. I wish I had gotten her name, because I would love to see her again! She had an excellent touch and I felt amazing afterwards. It was an hourlong massage, but it actually felt longer. They're having a special this month on massages, $1 a minute. I think I will try and make it back, because it was a really enjoyable experience. read more

I was treated to a massage at the Green Stone Spa by my boyfriend who is a regular here, and I loved every minute of it! Stephanie was my massage therapist, and she had a very nice, gentle touch, and her presence was very soothing and therapeutic, just what I needed! The place is nothing fancy necessarily, but it is affordable the massage itself is excellent. This place is conveniently located right near the Manhattan bridge. City bikers can park steps away from here. The F train stops close by. They take insurance if massage is for medical purposes. Green Stone Spa is outstanding and I recommend it to anyone looking for physical therapy/massage, especially people with hard-to-resolve ailments or chronic tightness/discomfort. Ive been going once/week for 90-120 minute sessions for 3 years now and have worked with all the therapists over the years. The therapy philosophy is especially geared to resolving deeply-entrenched tightness and providing long-lasting relief. (I personally do recurring sessions because of chronic issues, BUT green stone has helped legitimately & steadily reduced my discomfort over the years). The therapists are all trained to do 'gua sha' which is a scraping technique that releases the 'fascia' which is VERY effective- that technique has been critical to actually addressing some of my longstanding issues and I recommend it to anyone visiting! read more

I thought this would of been a great place to get a gift for my wife, but on second thought they are that interested in new customers. The gift certificates that sell are non refundable... for a gift card? So if you have second thoughts, no luck getting money back. That plus the hours they advertised weren't true... I went by on 3 different occasions 10:15am, 5:45pm and 10:25 am... a sign said closed each time. This place worked wonders for me I had a really bad back pain went to the doctors office next door got some help with my back then decided to get a massage. And it was the best thing I could have done the lady who helped me was very knowledgeable in her craft and she gave me tips on how to keep my back from hurting more in the future. Was the best idea I had this week my back killing me and now I feel 90% better after going here. The other 10% is because I have a actual strained nerve that takes time to heal. Like others, I stumbled upon Green Stone Spa when I purchased a Groupon deal. It was really difficult to actually make an appointment, first because no one ever picked up (even during open hours), then because they never called me back because I (oh, really?) had purportedly left the wrong call-back number. I ended up sending a friend who works in the building to intervene on our behalf. We were disappointed though, that they couldn't accommodate my 2 friends and I in their current space, as it is too small to treat 3 people at the same time. Nevertheless, appointment made, when we entered the Green Desk Building (via the hard-to-locate entrance), my friend and I were slightly sketched out by riding the rickety elevator to the basement, where we found exercise equipment that looked abandoned in a dingily-lit vestibule. But step forward, and Green Stone Spa awaits. The functional waiting area is small and sparse, but the treatment rooms are warm and inviting and all you need for zen. My friend really enjoyed her massage with Cindy, which she dubbed "nearly perfect" and my other friend said her massage with Michelle was one of the best she'd ever had in her life. Michelle was also apparently very knowledgeable about her various surgeries and adapted her treatment to those particular needs. If you want a quiet and talk-free session, however, you may want to request someone else. Both masseuses, however, were excellent hands-on. My only real disappointment was just that my friends and I had purchased the Groupon so that we could pamper ourselves together, and couldn't due to the small space. But never fear- their new facility (December) boasts storefront real estate and expanded capacity. Unfortunately, it probably also means higher prices. No reason to leave the neighborhood for an outstanding massage. I had an outstanding Swedish/post-natal massage from Marta today at Green Stone Spa. She is very responsive, kind, and strong, and she worked out some knots and heavy-feeling muscles with great skill and care. The space is perfectly clean, pleasant, and comfortable. I found Green Stone Spa through a Groupon deal which I purchased because I live close by and because it came at a great price (52$ each). I set the appointment with my boyfriend, Chris, as an anniversary treat. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who made conversation with us while we waited (which took about 10 minutes...). The space isn't as small as these reviews describe - It is actually a very nice space, but it looks as if they are still settling in (I noticed paint cans). Two massueses then greeted us and brought us to the rooms. I was set up with a massuese named Milan, who was INCREDIBLE. The massage was better then I've ever had before, and he asked many questions about what I needed to be worked on. He concentrated on all of my problem areas, he even tried to help with my nasal congestion. He's also easy on the eyes... (LOL!) My boyfriend is also very pleased with his time at the spa, with a woman named Michelle. When the session ended the massueses gave us a 10 minute consultation and advice on what we should work on at home, which I found very caring of them. I'm very happy with my experience with Green Stone Spa and I will definitely be back within the next month. read more
