Mediocre massage and facility. This place is in a basement with low ceilings and septic smells, plastic trees for decor and with the sound and constant vibrations of dryers running. It basically feels like paying to hang out in an equipment room for an hour. My massage was average at best. Therapist was friendly but did not seem not trained or qualified. Worst of all, his long and sharp fingernails actually left mark on my back (see photo). Oh and after my massage as I was getting dressed I saw this guy crawling by. Not surprising at all given how gross that space is. Won't ever be coming back here and wouldn't recommend to anyone. I visited Melt today and had the BEST massage! If you are looking for somewhere to visit in the area then just get yourself booked in. I have visited a few cheaper places in the area (more hand, foot and bodywork and beds separated by curtains sort of places) but more often than not I left feeling dissatisfied and in more pain than I arrived. I left Melt feeling like all of my knots had completely disappeared and in no pain at all. I saw Diane and she really listened to the areas that I wanted to focus on and what I was looking to achieve from the session. The space is really nice, with comfy heated beds and good sized, private, rooms where the treatments take place. The prices are a little high (I paid $140 for a 60 minute massage) but you really do get what you paid for. I will definitely be making a massage here part of my regular routine. One thing I would also flag is that to access the studio you do need to walk down some steps, so not very accessibility friendly. Obviously not their fault but just something to be aware of if you plan to visit. read more

Things that made Melt rock: - Melt caters each massage to each person. You fill out an intake form before arriving and then check in with your masseuse. - Melt offers packages for massages to save money! - Check-in is digital (aka very COVID safe) and all therapists are wearing masks. - They have great customer service - I had to make a change and was able to do this via email, with a quick turnaround. I have hesitated from getting many much-needed massages because of price and not knowing what you're doing to get, but I am so glad to have Melt in my wheelhouse now! I also sometimes leave massages having enjoyed the experience but don't have the continued benefits...and after Danielle's massage, I feel lighter and more days after. read more

After reading reviews and booking with one of the therapists I've seen mentioned by name and recommended on here, I ordered a full body massage for my birthday. Result: It was ok. Just...ok. Honestly, I've had better massages sitting in a dingy nail salon when some adorable bite sized woman comes and works the knots out of my shoulders while my nails dry. First of all, massages should at the very least be relaxing. I was in the front room, which is directly on a main street and baby, let me tell ya...you heard every car and every sound system. The "soothing massage music" + Migos + whatever shameless person was blasting Taylor Swift...yeah def not relaxing. I had to request ear plugs. Secondly, the massage was just a bunch of long strokes and not pressure point application or removing knots, which is what I requested. At a certain point, I just got tired of asking for it so I stayed quiet. Third, the room was really cold. I had to be covered with a heavy blanket the entire time. Needless to say, that wasn't comfortable. I left the massage not really feeling any better than when I came in. read more

I had a disappointing experience today, which wasn't my first. Post pandemic the receptionist went virtual. While I confirmed an appointment it wasn't booked. I showed up, to no appointment and being told when I didn't see a confirmation that should have been a sign. No effort to make it right or get me booked. Just oops. I left a very upset emailed the owner, I'm there the same appointment every month for 2 years, they replied quickly, was honest about their mistake and was patient with me to process and determine if I wanted to return. I will return and see how I feel. I appreciate not only did they contact me quickly but they dug into what happen as was real. As a small business we do our best, I own one too, we aren't perfect but their therapist are great and I hope their desk staff realizes the impact they make on the success or failure of a business. Location - conveniently located right off the G train! I love how Melt is at basement level, because it drowns out majority of NYC's wonderful noise. Booking - I was easily able to email Melt about scheduling an appointment and Elise responded to my email promptly. I was able to schedule my appointment, fill out the intake paperwork, & pre pay for the massage online, which was a huge win for me! Massage - I booked a 60 minute therapeutic massage. Never had a bad massage here and sometimes they are amazingly good. It does cost and you need to plan ahead. They schedule and pay therapists decently, which is unfortunately not the case in most spas and almost never in the cheap places. I know how important working conditions are to quality of work. I messaged them to set up an appointment for a prenatal massage on Tuesday and they were quite accommodating about appointment times. I ended up getting in for Friday afternoon which was ideal for me. I filled out all my forms and gave them my card info online so when I showed up it was very smooth. The receptionist was wonderful and the facility clean and neat, if not fancy. Danielle, my masseuse, was very welcoming. She took the time to listen to my needs and was very accommodating. The massage was sooo relaxing. Her presence was awesome, the room dark and comfy and the music was so soothing. I'd never had a prenatal message before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but Danielle hit all the sore spots - low back, glutes, shoulders, neck, calves, and then some - and I was completely comfortable on my side with lots of bolsters and pillows the whole time. Heavenly! Booked an hour deep tissue massage here for my birthday and loved every minute of it. Holy cow. Cynthia, my message therapist, was kind and really listened to my needs. Before our session she asked what kind of pressure I liked, and asked which parts of my body were in the most need of attention. Turns out my shoulders have a lot of tension and inflammation and after adjusting her pressure I felt so soothed and relaxed. One of the best massages that we have had in a long time. My boo and I can't thank Cristina (sp?) & Coleen (sp?) enough. Cristina was my massage therapist and HELPED ME OUT. I came in with some chronic back pain/inflamed disc in my low back. I rambled on about my problems and she took care of them. At the time, I couldn't really lay on my back and was experiencing too much flexion in my back. She provided so many options. In addition, she showed me stretches for my psoas muscle and suggested some ways to sleep with pillows to help ease the pain. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SIT, WALK, & DO MY JOB WITHOUT PAIN. I WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING BACK. Coleen was my husband's massage therapist and he couldn't stop singing her praise. His middle back is VERY tight and he has been experiencing pain on & off for some time. He said "That is the best massage I have ever gotten. I won't be seeing another massage therapist again." At 7 mos. pregnant I had a prenatal massage with Chris. It was amazing. I came in with slight lower back and hip pain and left feeling so refreshed. He was very technical, and out of the massages I've had, I could tell that he knew what he was doing. The studio itself is also super quaint and calming. It reminded me of a yoga studio. I just had a massage from Marisol and it really revitalized me/recharged the batteries. My back contains years and years of stress that continued to bother me and she found/released the tension right away! The rest of the massage was very relaxing and I feel extremely restored! I will definitely be going back to Melt/would like to see Marisol for several more sessions ASAP. It was well worth the price. If you can afford dinners out with friends, the gym, and other conveniences, why not give yourself the gift that keeps giving longterm by releasing all of that tension? Pro tip: this place will give you a prenatal massage in your first trimester! Most will not, for liability reasons, even though there's absolutely no evidence that a massage in your first trimester can cause a miscarriage (if it did, we wouldn't need abortion clinics). And some of Melt's competitors, who shall remain nameless, will make disapproving clucking noises at you if you call up and ask about them. Those places are no longer getting my business. Melt is. Other pros: lovely space, a huge roster of extremely talented masseurs and masseuses, easy online booking (they generally e-mail you back within ten minutes, and I've had them call me first thing in the morning to tell me an appointment was available that day), great location. I've had over a dozen massages here and I've never had a bad one. Sometimes I'll try other places because I'm like, oh, maybe I should go somewhere more "spa-like" where they give you a robe. But screw robes. Melt is where it's at. read more

Becky with the Good Hands. I'm going to let you in on a little secret--it's called the Beyoncé massage. I haven't been feeling well lately and treated myself to a massage last week. On the day of my massage I woke up in quite a bit of pain and not in the best spirits. When I got to my massage, Becky, co-owner of Melt and a seriously amazing massage therapist, asked me what music I'd like to listen to during my massage. I asked what the options were and she half-jokingly offered that she'd been listening to Beyoncé all morning. I said, "let's do it" and when I got back from the restroom, Beyoncé was singing away on the stereo. For the next 90 minutes I had an fantastic massage that responded to all of the areas that were bothering me while Beyoncé sang affirmations in my ear. From Destiny's Child era Beyoncé to Lemonade--that mix and a massage from Becky are the cure for whatever ails you. I walked home from that massage not just relaxed and loosened up, but also with some real swagger in my step, and pretty sure I could crush any obstacle in my path. Trust that your therapist is probably bored of the same 12 tracks of whale sounds too, (Becky said she also loved the chance to mix it up) and get yourself to Melt for a real mood booster of a massage with Becky. I've always had excellent massages at Melt and found the therapists to be not only extremely talented but also friendly, empathetic, and skilled at working with complex medical issues. I was very excited about Melt... But I couldn't relax during my massage, I don't feel like my knots were well worked out. My hips and back still hurt and my neck is still tight. My massage therapist was wonderful and a sweetheart. Everything was on time. Everything was pleasant. Nice ambience. Great scheduling. But the massage left me just ehhh. Maybe it was the positioning. I've come to melt a number of times for massages. Each one was wonderful. I'm a professional dancer, fitness instructor and yoga instructor. When I say that I want a deep tissue massage, I want a deep tissue massage. Melt is one of the few and far between bodywork businesses that actually deliver a good and consistent deep tissue massage. I have returned to Melt after their reopening in August 2020 and am beyond impressed with the new protocols they put in place in light of COVID-19. There is rigorous screening, with clear information for you every step of the way, systematic airflow and filtering in every space, and ample PPE/sanitizer supplies. My friend and I got a couples massage here last weekend and it was everything we expected and wanted. A plus is also that the location of this business is amazing with tons of restaurants close by and Fort Greene park around the corner. The massage therapists chosen for us took their jobs very seriously and checked in with both of us about what we wanted from the experience prior to beginning the massage and made sure to incorporate our requests. I had an experienced woman named Krystal (spelling may be incorrect) and she was AMAZING on my back getting every sore area and putting me in a deep state of relaxation. I have been going to Melt off and on for about a year now, and I absolutely love it. I got turned on to it because its yelp reviews were glowing, five stars all around, and I tried it out and I totally see why. I wish I could give them more than five stars. I work with Becky and she makes me feel so comfortable and at ease. I pay a bit more than I would, say, in Chinatown or some place with blow-out groupon deals, but as with anything, you get what you pay for. Times I have gotten cheap massages, I feel like they don't care about me personally, that they approach everyone's body and needs the same, with a formula. Not the case at Melt--they custom tailor their approach to you personally, how you feel, what you like, and what you actually want long-term out of therapy. I've never felt better. And plus the place is so calm and soothing, with a happy, positive environment that feels genuine, isn't overly cheesy with dark candles and cheap buddhist art on the walls and bad new age pan flute music from 1992 blasting through speakers. No, it's honest: simple, clean, and relaxing. And everyone there has a sense of humor-- Becky likes to learn about my life and what I'm up to and she makes me laugh during our sessions. To me that's a great thing because it makes the experience more personal, more comfortable, more fun. I've been to other places where the massage therapist doesn't talk to me the whole time and quite frankly it makes me feel less comfortable, like they can't wait to finish, get my tip, and move on to the next. Last time with Becky, I left feeling absolutely euprohic, a little drunk and high on beautiful, eternal feelings, like I had been whisked out of reality and into heaven for just a moment. I can't explain it very well but I had never really experienced such a magical sensation before with a massage. I definitely plan to go to Melt as long as I live here. I LOVE THIS PLACE. why? 1. I dont know how they do it, but they're able to work out the knots (I have a lot) and make me feel super relaxed after each visit. 2. Most of the massage therapists are phenomenal- they are kind, experienced, educated therapists who give me tips on what I can do at home (I say most, because I had one instance where a therapist was pretty rude and unkind, but I'll attribute it to her having a bad day). 3. theyre very accommodating with openings, cancellations and couples massages. 4. they have candy and water in the foyer :) read more

I live near this place and watched it open with a bit of skepticism - it's on a basement level of an apartment building and it was hard to get a read on what it would be like inside. I decided that I'd give it a try and I booked a 60 minute massage. I did the booking online and had a pleasant email exchange about scheduling, payment, etc. They even accommodated a last-minute schedule change I requested. I went this morning for my massage. It's a bigger space than I expected, and it's pleasantly lit and decorated. No frills but a few nice touches that made it feel comfortable. Pamela was my massage therapist and she was genuinely awesome. She seemed to be very in tune with what my body needed, and she totally nailed the right amount of pressure after talking about it. I left seriously relaxed and feeling great. I've had a number of massages at D'mai Urban Spa in Park Slope and Melt is infinitely better.
