Acupuncture review from a year or two ago - I went with a specific physical issue and a vestibular issue in mind but I did not leave fully feeling like my session pinpointed the needs I communicated. I was also pretty anxious about acupuncture (I had only done it in a very small way previously) and that was not treated with the care I was hoping for. I almost had a panic attack on the table when left alone. I left disappointed and slightly disregarded. The initial practitioner I had scheduled with canceled and they swapped her with Chelsea last minute. She was personable. But I had chosen my initial practitioner purposefully, and it has left me wondering how that session might have gone. Unfortunately I will never go back. I have been doing acupuncture here for the last two months, and I have had a great experience! First of all, I would like to point out and recommend to you, Dr. Zhentao Wu; he is amazing, he is very professional, caring, and he always takes the time to listen what's going on and how he can help! Most importantly I see the drastic difference between the first treatment and the 10th treatment that I have done. I feel much better, a way more energy, and overall state of mind is great! Also the receptionist is great, she gives the whole vibe to the clinic! She is always friendly and very professional! And, everything inside is immaculately clean! I've been getting massages regularly for a number of years. I have never been inclined to write a review before. Tonight I saw Taylor for a 60 min massage. I wish I could describe to you how wonderful this was, but I don't think it would do it justice. To attempt: I have been under a tremendous amount of stress coupled with a lot of physical lifting and tasks. This massage with Taylor was the first time I have felt relief from the pain and actually relaxed at the same time. I am 8 months pregnant and I have so much muscle ache and discomfort that I couldn't sleep for weeks. My husband bought me several massage sessions at different spas. They were all nice, but not therapeutic. I had my first prenatal massage with Mariya today and it was the BEST massage I have ever received. Her pressure was nice and deep and mostly, her technique was spot on. She targeted EXACTLY the spots that hurt and worked on the muscles perfectly. I left feeling like jelly. Thank you Slope Wellness and in particular my acupuncturist, Jules. I was in agony from back spasms and constant pain for several weeks and came here before a trip to Austin because I knew I couldn't deal with the pain on a plane. I first saw Luke, who gave me a treatment that helped a lot. When I came back, I had a setback that had me on the floor, immobile from pain. I called and was given an appointment with Jules, who I just loved. In addition to the acupuncture, she gave me some Chinese herbal remedies that also helped. Two treatments later, I was pain free and the problem has not returned. Another plus for Slope Wellness is they give a discount for patients like me whose insurance doesn't cover acupuncture. They also have an option for community acupuncture, which is considerably cheaper than private treatments. I did community twice and both times I was the only person being treated (although it was during daytime hours on a weekday). read more

First impressions mean everything to me. When I called for an appt., Reception was kind and polite, and made the booking process quick and simple. On arrival, there is a small seating area to remove and store shoes. Reception also offers slippers if you prefer. Before my session; Kelsey went over a brief medical history with me and asked about injuries and areas I felt might need more attention. This made me feel very comfortable and trusting-- because sometimes therapists just flip you over and start jamming their fingers into your back with no mercy. Everything is calming, clean and smells good. Slope Wellness has a vast variety of natural/healing products for sale such as oils, soaps, candles and non-toxic nail polishes. I think it's also cool that they offer massage packages/bundles to ease the costs of incorporating massage into your life as an on-going wellness ritual :) I will definitely return. read more

Best massage I've ever had (and I've lived in NYC for 15 years)! Capri Miner is a miracle worker. One of those massages where you feel better for weeks afterwards. He also works in a physical therapist's office so is incredibly knowledgable about how interconnected the body is and works out all your knots and pressure points to give you the most amount of relief post massage. He also sends you home with suggestions on how to maintain the results for longer, i.e. stretching, not crossing your legs, TMJ exercises, etc. He truly has a gift! The staff are polite and easy to book with, and location is great -- no frills but incredibly clean and COVID safe. Also super convenient (block from the F/G train at 7th Ave). I've received two massages at this place. I thought coming to a more "professional" seeming massage therapy spot would result in a more comprehensive and targeted experience, however I ended up paying double what I would pay at one of those walk-in Chinese massage places and left feeling like I wasted my money for a sub-par experience. First time I came here the therapist I saw was a petite woman didn't seem capable of giving the deep pressure I wanted and her hands were uncomfortably boney. She gave me lots of recommendations for opening up my hip flexor, which is what she thought was at the root of my pain. I think she went above and beyond to help and had great knowledge of the body and how to tackle my issue by giving me suggestions with exercises and roller ball therapies. Despite not loving the massage I was grateful for the expert knowledge. Second time I came the the therapist was sniffing the entire time and clearing her throat constantly like she had a bad cold (it was winter time so I don't think it was allergies) which was stressful because I did not want to get sick. I specifically asked for deep tissue pressure, again, and kept having to ask her to apply more pressure which she could not keep up and it would slip into more of a light Swedish massage when I really needed deep tissue. She also completely failed to address the areas I specifically asked her to concentrate on. I couldn't believe they'd allow someone so visible under the weather to handle clients at a "wellness" place. Both experiences made me question why i would want to pay double what I usually pay when I felt the experience was not worth it. The rooms are very clinical and sterile feeling like a doctored office and not like a spa, and while I appreciate cleanliness I also would like a little mood lighting and ambiance. There was no sign to take my shoes off at the front door and the therapist almost reprimanded me for not doing so. The front desk was disorganized and didn't know how to apply a promotion to my appointment saying the manager was out of the office and they didn't know what to do, but after a bunch of back and forth and phone calls, 10 mins of waiting to check out, it was finally figured out. All in all, two times a sub-par experience so I don't think I'll be back for a massage here. read more

This place rocks and Jules rocks even more. Finding this relaxation haven was easy peasy. It's closer to 9th Street than 8th Street but the F or G to 7th Avenue will get you there with just a little walking. You automatically feel relaxed when you enter this place. The beginners (like myself) wouldn't know to remove their shoes so I was told to do it as I came in (socks can stay on). Your outerwear belongs in a closet which is to your left from the receptionist desk. I had to fill out some intake paperwork which was a bit extensive but required. The receptionist was the sweetest; I can't remember her name but she was just the nicest and had a calm spirit. She also checked to see if my insurance would cover acupuncture (which I knew it doesn't, lol). I did receive an official email that it doesn't but I appreciated the staff making the attempt. In lieu of no insurance coverage, they may offer some discounts so inquire when you visit. I also observed that they do sell products which was displayed in the waiting room (maybe herbal but I definitely noticed skin and hair products though). I can't remember the name but as soon as I find out, I will update my review. Jules came out and got me right away. I loved her upbeat energy! She was also a natural comedian. Her humorous energy was contagious; she had me laughing for the whole time. They (meaning the general public and Google.com) say "laughter is the best medicine" and I must admit the energy was so positive in the room that I was completely relaxed before the acupuncture session. Jules was also accommodating and made sure I was comfortable as well (i.e giving me an extra pillow, etc). I purchased the community acupuncture session which was a steal compared to the solo version; but I would definitely try the private session in the future. The community acupuncture consist of three beds divided by thick curtains so it's still semi-private. So, I already made my second community acupuncture with Jules later this month. Acupuncture is definitely something that will become part of my routine as I see it very beneficial to my health. Slope Wellness is definitely worth the visit. I'm very thrilled that I decided to give this place a chance. I will totally be a regular. read more

So convenient - it is located right outside the F,G train stop. Acupuncture sessions can be expensive and I like that they do community sessions here Monday to Friday. Community sessions are $55 and it is in a room with 3 beds. When I went, there was nobody else there and my acupuncturist told me that is how it usually is. I've had nothing but great experiences at Slope Wellness. From Kelsey at the front desk, who is so warm and helpful, to Lukas, who has shown me that acupuncture doesn't have to be aggressive to be effective, to Mariya, who gave me my first massage and it was perfection. I'm dealing with some lower back pain and shoulders that are cinder blocks, thanks to years of built up tension. I must gush for a minute about the 30-minute massage I got from Mariya... I'm one of those sensitive people that cannot take a deep massage. I was worried that I would never be able to work out the knots in my shoulders if I did not endure the pain of a deep massage.
