I went to this school for all three years and boy howdy has it been a roller coaster of emotions…read more In 6th grade I would've gave this school 1 start out of pettiness but I've since grew as a person. First things first, the food is ass. It's about what you'd expect for school cafeteria food. Some teachers can be STRICT as hell for god knows why. I will admit, as annoying as the strict teachers were I'm glad some are there. my 7th grade science teacher Ms T was so strict and I absolutely dreaded that class because of it. Must've been a good thing though because I passed her class with a high B. The new cellphone policy was more tedious than anything. If people who are gonna be misbehaving want to use their phone, they're gonna use their phone the pouch ain't stopping them. Some of the staff there are a bitch. Excuse my language. The school is dirt poor. They rely on fundraisers and donations. I'm surprised they stopped selling Panda Express and Caines since they're in need of mone. They did it because they wanted to go "healthy". Honestly surprised that was their approach to healthy alternatives when the cafeteria food looks like it was bioengineered in a lab. As much as I had pretty alright time here, I probably wouldn't recommend it. A bit off topic, if the choir teacher ever reads this I want her to know that something she said always pissed me off. She would say "This is a performing arts school, if you didn't want to sing then you shouldn't have come here" or something along those lines. That always got me mad because I didn't sign up for choir. My first choice was theater (which I got it) and I also tried doing art but got put in choir. Got me mad because I just wasn't passionate about singing That was more of a personal note though. Real talk, the choir program is actually AMAZING though and I'd highly recommend it if you like singing. Another great department is theater. Mr Thedell and Ms Wilder are the goat fr fr #JUSTICEFORCHRIS #FREEHBOMAXGUY

This school seriously struggles with communication and parent support. Throughout the school year,…read moreI constantly had to be the one reaching out regarding missing assignments, falling grades, and concerns involving my child. Very rarely did teachers or staff proactively communicate with me first, they would wait for "Teacher conferences" to communicate, Which often made it feel like parents are left completely on their own. One situation that especially upset me was when my son's phone was taken away and left at the front desk, yet nobody even bothered to notify me. He ended up waiting alone after school with no way to contact me or let me know what was happening. As a parent, that was extremely concerning and could have easily become a bigger issue. GOD FORBID SOMETHING HAPPEN.! On top of that, there was also a major mistake with my son's yearbook, where he was placed in the wrong classroom section and the customization package we paid for was missing. Instead of handling the issue with understanding, the situation felt minimized and dismissed. I understand schools are busy and mistakes happen, but communication, accountability, and student safety should still be priorities. I truly hope the school improves the way it supports and communicates with families moving forward. I truly hope the school improves communication, accountability, and parent support moving forward.

My son has been attending Greenspun Middle School for about one year and is currently in 6th grade…read more We moved here from California, and the difference in how schools are run is shocking, in the worst way. Clark County School District, and Greenspun specifically, handles student behavior very poorly. My son has witnessed more fights at this school in one year than he ever did in California. Bullying is a serious issue here, and the way staff, teachers, and administration respond to it is unacceptable. For example, an 8th grade student poured orange juice over my son's head. My son did exactly what he was taught, he reported it to staff instead of reacting. After speaking directly with the principal, Ms. Hermes, it sounded like this 8th grade student would face little to no consequences. However, it was made very clear that if my son had defended himself, he would be the one in trouble. This teaches kids to accept being mistreated while punishing them for standing up for themselves, which does not prepare them for the real world. This same pattern shows up in the classroom. My son recently got in trouble with Ms. Walsh, his math teacher, for raising his voice. My son admitted to me that he did raise his voice, and I appreciate his honesty. He explained that during free time another student was repeatedly giving him a hard time and even threw a backpack, yet that student was not disciplined. Ms. Walsh did not put a stop to the behavior immediately, allowing the situation to escalate. While my son should not have raised his voice, it is easy to understand his frustration when disruptive behavior is ignored and the child reacting is the only one punished. Students are either ignored when they report issues or immediately punished without any real accountability. Teachers frequently raise their voices when it isn't necessary, instead of stopping bad behavior the first time it happens. It feels more like a power struggle than effective classroom management. Academically, things are not much better. My son has struggled with his grades, and after meeting with all of his teachers, one teacher, Mr. Hoffman made the comment, "The dad's job is to work and the son's job is to do his own work." That statement alone showed a complete lack of support, accountability, or willingness to help a struggling student. I also personally sat in on one of Mr. Hoffman's classes. Before the classroom doors even opened, while waiting outside in the hallway, I overheard multiple students using the N word. This is especially concerning given that over 80% of the student population is Caucasian. There was no staff present to intervene out there , and it was clear this type of language is tolerated. From my own observation, Mr. Hoffman does the bare minimum, assigns work, sits at his desk, and provides little guidance or engagement. I witnessed this firsthand. Some classes don't even have assigned seating, which only adds to distractions and behavior problems. Most work is done on computers, yet there is no typing or basic computer skills class, setting students up to struggle even more. Overall, this school lacks structure, accountability, student support, and effective leadership. Bullying, racial language, and disruptive behavior are not addressed consistently, and administration, under the leadership of Ms. Hermes fails to protect students who follow the rules and report issues appropriately. I would not recommend Greenspun Middle School to any parent who cares about their child's safety, education, or emotional well being.

It also gives students the flexibility to build their own school schedule around work/family responsibilities. I wish a program like this existed where I went to high school so I could have taken advantage of the opportunity to attend college for free. Staff salary exceeds that of working within CCSD, especially with the opportunity for growth/more pay with the completion of performance incentives. Performance incentives also allow you to move down and over on the pay scale. I have been able to grow tremendously while working at this organization through professional development opportunities, performance incentives, and staff collaboration. The best part is seeing students graduate and become successful in their future endeavors and knowing we played a part in preparing them! I definitely recommend this program to 11th and 12th grade high school students!

Great for students that don't function well in the CCSD environment. This business model is a serious threat to the monopoly that CCSD has on our education system. Students get upset when they think it's just an easy school, it's not, you are going to work hard and it will be worth it.
