My kids loved the robotics, chess and pickleball clubs, but they also offer theater, cheer, student leadership and more! The school community is amazing and my kids have made amazing friends here. My daughter was very smart prior to moving here and this school didn't slow her down. She has continued to excel in reading, math, science and Physical education. She has taken after school activities such as piano, yoga and even fun activity clubs and loved every one of them. I was able to see my child from a public trail and was quickly spotted by the PE coach as she confronted me and confirmed with my daughter that she knew me. I was really happy that the teachers have that level of care for the kids to ensure I wasn't a creep. The PTO does amazing things with a lot of dedicated parents participating. My experience with the teachers thus far has been amazing. You get a chance to meet more of them at community events and fundraiser dinners the PTO creates. The traffic came back up for drop off. The principal and other teachers out in the parking lot trying to keep parents moving any methodical pace. There is a flow to the process to ensure all kids get dropped off quickly and in a safe manner. The crossing guards are always there and always have a children's safety as the number one priority from what I've seen. I'm also amazed how the people letting the children into the school in the morning seem to know nearly every single one of them. My child's experience has been great. We dedicate a lot of time at home with our children to help them learn that at school. It seems the teachers do the same which makes the school work very well for us and our level of involvement with the children. The ram run is an opportunity for the kids to run laps in the morning before school starts and a great opportunity to motivate them to stay more active. My daughter really liked this and over the course of the ram run duration from October to May, she ran over 60 mi with a couple laps each day. This is not required and starts about 15 minutes before the bell rings. SafeKey is offered before and after school. I have only used a before school option. I know this is a CCSD provided function and not a school function but I asked the SafeKey teachers how they manage a number of teachers versus students and they told me they provide the appropriate number of teachers for whatever children are signed up for the SafeKey that day. One afternoon, I watched children throwing rocks into the backyards of houses so long the trail. I didn't expect there to be enough SafeKey teachers to be able to watch every kid at all times since they are all playing in the large playground. I told the kids to stop and they did. I then went over to the school to talk to the SafeKey teachers and they address it immediately. I never saw any children throw rocks again. Overall I think the teachers of the school are very attentive from my experience. I think the pickup and drop off goes as efficiently as it can go since the school doesn't actually have a large parking lot for everybody to park. It seems like the PTO and staff are dedicated to provide the best environment they can provide. I am very happy that I chose to live in an area that is zoned for this highly rated school.

You want to get there early for a good parking spot, but there 2 neighborhoods from each side also have a walkway that's very accessible to park there and walk. I recommend parents to get involved in their kids' school if they want to bring change to it. My kids are happy there and any issues that have come up have been resolved by teachers and other staff. Since starting at Josh, her mood has improved dramatically, which has been a wonderful change. Her teacher, Ms. Weaver, is truly exceptional and genuinely cares for her students. My daughter was struggling academically, and Ms. Weaver called us to express her concerns. We decided to have our daughter evaluated, and she was diagnosed with ADHD, hyperfocus type. Once we understood what was going on, we were able to support her better. Her grades improved significantly, and she received two awards at the end of the school year. Ms. Weaver supported her every step of the way and played a vital role in helping her succeed. While the teachers have been wonderful, the front office staff could benefit from additional training. We've also encountered some issues with bullying. I had to personally address a situation with a child who continued to bother my daughter. Ms. Weaver did her best to handle the issue and even involved the other child's parents. To the parents of children who bully others: please do better. Teach your children to respect others and to keep their hands to themselves. I saw child at the park bullying a kid and the other child beat him up because he was tired of being picked on. Please raise your kids right!

Next, they are unfair. In 1st grade, I went to the PE class; kids were being bad, and we got in trouble, but I didn't do anything, and yet I still got in trouble. Those were two bad things that happened at Josh Stevens Elementary School, better than other elementary schools in my opinion overall. 3 stars

They let cars speed off, especially on the second lane while your child is trying to get in the car.. they once called my daughter into the office to ask if they can look at her phone if a teacher is texting her... They did not even check with the parents... my daughter said they ask weird and unfair questions and ask her to swear to secrecy.. well when she got home, she told me, but it happened and said that the questions were really unfair and that they are trying to set up a teacher and get him in trouble... what the school can improve on is to respect both parents and kids safety... The fourth coming and honest... Did not get that at all throughout the year while many teachers are getting fired or leaving...

They just became a 5 Star School, which requires very impressive test scores.
