They fired a teacher didn't tell the parents till 3 business days later, and that was after I point out why haven't they told us. Your child will be bounced around and not in a stable class at all. My son was moved around with a cubbie with his stuff in it because they had no teacher. The teacher they did give him finally after I complained didn't speak any English what so ever, and the room smelled like a an Extreme amount of cleaning products and the other teacher has lymphedema and can hardly walk well and shouldn't be working with 3 years when she can hardly stand for a long period of time or walk properly. I had to buy extra blankets because they will let kids that forgot a blanket sleep on an empty Mat with nothing on it. When I would go pick up my son at the end of the day I had to play Easter egg hunt to find him because they will never mark down where they are located. They have a high tuition, plus you have to buy the expensive shirts, then pay school supply fee. When you finally get to the class they will hand you a school supplies list after you pay for everything else. Why is there a supply fee but I still to go buy a page long supply list.So think twice before sending your child to the school! Also, a lot of the ratings are from survey links that they sent to the parents and they make sure the parents leave a good rating or they will come say something to you if you don't!

The principal even kiss her teeth and tells me what else do you need from me like suspending my children's for nothing and your staff is doing a horrible job and all you can say is I'll look into it. Not once does this lady fellow through if I don't have the district Ms Vivian Green calling her the principal does not care to fix any issues with her staff. She lied on me saying I don't leave messages or call her which are lies I have my proof. Even Ms Vivian Green assistant Ana is the best and gets the messages through for Ms Vivian Green I don't get the issue. The principal Patti Lucas even lied on the referral where an incident occurred with Mr Shaw was pulling on my son arm and they refused to show me the cameras even when Ms Ashley Schutt stated I could see them. Ms Lucas lied in the meeting with the district and even in writing it says it happened by the stairs but yet took myself, kids father & district team to a whole different area. Then you have Jennifer George the assistant principal is extremely disrespectful and unprofessional she was being disrespectful to my mother when she went to go pick up my kids. Then to top it off you have the aftercare program by the names of Ms Arianna that didn't allowed my daughter to use the restroom and my daughter still went to use the restroom and Ms Arianna told my daughter she will be in trouble, furthermore more my son was playing monkey in the middle and the kids were being ruff and almost chocked my son with his sweater my son told her and she did nothing. But then the principal does not respond at all. If I do not let Ms Candice the aftercare counselor in charge notify Ms Lucas does not return my calls. Then you have Coach Moreno that when my son was playing outside he got hurt by accident and my son asked for ice so he can apply it to his leg and the Coach Moreno refused to send him to the nurse and told my son that's what he gets. I notify the school and of course all Ms Ashley Schutt can say is sorry that it is protocol to send the kids to the nurse that I have to sign a release for okay I did and the Coach Moreno still did not follow protocols my children's are not toys and they do not care for children's safety. Then you have a liar Ms Stephanie that lied on me saying I threaten her but yet I asked for her name and told her I will deal with her with Ms Candice I even messaged Ms Candice she advise me that she won't be back till Monday. To top it off you have Ms Smith which lied on my son saying he threaten her when he didn't saying he was going to hurt her on nothing but yet Ms Smith failed to notify me and let me know anything meanwhile she was screaming at my son and another student. I asked the principal Ms Lucas and all she can say is I believe my teacher not your child. There's another topping to add the police officer Mr Samuel Perez told my son to shut up and he stated it was to get his attention I'm confused who does that. I told the officer to tell me to shut up not my child and the officer did not tell me to shut up. My daughter was a safety patrol and she no longer is and got kicked out because she defended her little brother was getting bully by an older kid which nobody cared to help my son. Do not be afraid to stand up for your children's you are there voice and hero. Stand up parents. This school allows bullying and mistreats children's.

Kentwood has been a lifesaver & constant source of support for my family over the past 6&1/2 years…read more My child started there in 5th grade & is now in 11th. We placed S there after trying for 2+ years to get S help thru the public school system. We adopted S after S was placed in foster care at 9 mos old. S endured heavy drug use by S's bio mom while pregnant & lack of care the first 9 mos of life. S has severe ADHD, ODD, & is on the spectrum (very high functioning) with severe short term memory deficits & math LD. Behavior due to severe frustration over inability to grasp things was getting worse & worse despite twice weekly counseling at school & in our home, tutoring & a begrudgingly granted 504 Plan that did nothing for S. When S started in 5th grade, S was extremely defiant & wouldn't work or follow the rules. S was turning our home into a war zone w/constant tantrums & fighting. Kentwood uses a VERY strict behavioral intervention chart (BIC) that they mark every 1/2 hour or hour for every student. If the kids are acting out so much that it disturbs the other students, they are moved to a special skills lab w/staff trained to work with these situations so they can return to the classroom. The teachers are just AMAZING & incredibly calm & well trained. They communicate with parents regularly & fully -- both good & bad. So nice to get emails or texts telling me of something helpful or smart my kid did vs. always getting those terrible calls about a problem. S is very verbal & social & likes to read. Comprehension is not great, but there's a lot of effort & interest. Math is a whole other story -- ugly, bad, tantrum causing. Instead of pushing S forward into areas S would never understand, they work w/S to get S fully understanding the areas missed & then move forward at S's own pace & ability. I've had to adjust my expectations & realize/accept that S will never fully get some of the math areas or be very academic. And that's OK. The staff has worked extensively w/S & classmates on social skills, life skills like budgeting & saving & price checking, etc. They talk a lot about learning to watch for others' reactions & social cues & they practice it. Conflict resolution too. How to handle frustrations & advocate for yourself. I'm amazed at how much S has grown emotionally over the years. S has been nurtured by so many different teachers & staff over the years & thru multiple grades. They have been there for me to turn to re: behavioral issues at home & always offer good ideas & practical, hands-on help at school so we're working in tandem to help S. S LOVES S's teachers, & has made incredibly good friends there as well. The classes are very small & personalized to what the individual kids need. The small environment, mask wearing, cleaning & distancing has made me comfortable allowing S to go back to school in person. I highly recommend this school if your child has a special academic/behavioral needs that just can't/won't be met in the public school setting.
