My favorite was the skewers with their nice hearty flavors; I think the tempeh was also regional sourced from Surata Soyfoods. 2nd the potato bravas then migas. But overall a solid snack medley or meal (maybe meal of sides?). Just really tasty food. The gentleman running it was friendly and helpful. He was also a former Seattleite when he noticed my PCC tote bag. Bathrooms are well kept porta-potties nearby. I wanted a nice N/A beer at the nearby shack but sadly it can't leave the shack. The…read morelate summer and fall season is upon us. buying practices are important to pickers and this company has practices that are intentionally ripping off the pickers. I've sold to numerous buyers in Oregon and California over the past ten years and mushrooms are graded by the buyers and pay is determined by the quality of the mushroom. the majority of mushrooms have basically two grades good or bad. good is top price and bad is bought at a fraction of the price and usually are referred to as dryers. also referred to as wormy which means they have worms within the mushroom body. matsitakes and boletes have several grades of condition and chanterelles in the middle and late season sometimes have 3 grades including good, field run and dryers. lobsters and most other mushrooms have two grades. good and bad or dryers. this company seems to believe that its appropriate to change the rules and cut your profits. todays price for chanterelles' is 9.00 and lobsters are 5.00 a pound. this is a great price for this time of year. never have I seen in over ten years a buyer paying for different grades except good and bad or good or dryers this time of year or ever. this company basically took my seven pounds of chanterelles paid me nine a pound for 3.5 pounds and paid me 3.00 dollars for grade 2 which I have no idea what that is. what I assume is the price for flowers or bigger mushrooms. this isn't normal and it took over 20 dollars from my pocket. I had 11 pounds of lobsters. they divided the pondage in half and 5.5 ponds I received 5.00 a pound. for the other 5.5 they paid me 2.00 dollars a pound and claimed that they removed the worms which will still net them the same profit when sold to consumers. now lobsters are often wormy and a buyer will slice small chunks of its body to determine if it has worms. the buyer I buying tonight sliced from 10 to 30 slices from my mushrooms as if he was just looking for a worm and they claim they are removing worms. this is a scam and pickers should think twice before buying from this company. I lost another 20 dollars from this scam and its basically theft. I confronted the owner and buyer and my claims that this practice was wrong and nothing I've ever seen before was not supported by any reason or circumstance and was told I don't have to sell there if I don't want to. I wont and anyone who picks mushrooms should sell elsewhere. ATTENTION CONSUMERS AND RESTRAUNTS, ETC. you should really think twice if your buying from this company. how much do you spend for a pound of fresh market chanterelle. your spending too much for a product that would not be available if it wasn't for the pickers. fair practices should be across the board and pickers are always getting the low end treatment when its compared to profits. I get it and businesses need to make money. But the practices of this company are ripping the picker off and possibly you as well. I'd like to describe the less than friendly experience that I had at the organic redneck stand at…read morethe Eugene Saturday Market this afternoon around 1:00PM today. As I was purchasing several vegetable items, the young man helping me told me that he really liked my glasses, but the coating really hampered the interaction because he could not see my eyes. He also acted very surprised with the vegetables (4 tomatoes, 2 cucumbers and 1 clove of garlic) when I put them on the scale and reacted with a "whoa". This may not seem like a big deal; however, this person clearly had some concerns about what I was buying, did not like my glasses and made it a point to tell me in a very patronizing, unrealistically friendly way. I found all of this to be condescending and passive aggressive. My concern here is not with his like or dislike of anything about me, or his opinion about my buying habits, whatever they might be. It's the fact that he should not be voicing his personal opinions to the customers that are spending money at the stand. There are tons of other choices of where I can buy the same or similar items at the market and because of this experience, I will not be returning. This person clearly doesn't know their place and displayed a level immaturity that doesn't belong in any type of service role.

It's nice to have a place to support local vendors and businesses. Everyone one there is friendly and love their products. My favorite stand is the Horai coffee and bakery stand and the fresh vegetable stands. I can't wait until summer when tomatoes will be in season.

LC Farmer's Market has been around for decades, and until a few years ago was just an open-air…read moreextension of the Saturday Market or standalone on Tuesdays. But they've got some fancy new digs with this permanent structure. It's not much more than walls and a roof, but that's useful for this type of market since the stalls might vary in size depending upon the vendor. There are vendors both in and outside the structure, selling baked goods (bagels, cookies, hot dogs, etc.), meats, flowers, fruits and veggies, you name it. And it's nice to be out of the rain for at least part of the time, which is oh so common in Eugene. They have a bathroom (an all-user bathroom, great!) but I'm not sure if it's just far too small or what. We didn't need it, thankfully, because there was a line out the door of the bathroom. This seems to be the biggest flaw with the building--not sure they really planned well in this case.

We've been buying products from Matthew for years now, but he only just officially incorporated his business. He's a fully licensed hunter and mushroom gatherer/seller who spends most of his free time going out into the woods in the Eugene/Cascades area to gather and hunt his own wild foods. We reap the benefits of his hard work, at prices that are very comparable to what you would find at the store/market. (Did you know most of the mushrooms at the Farmer's Market are actually farmed, not gathered?) He does everything he can to keep his prices as low as possible. We bought some chanterelles today at $10.50 a pound, and he delivered them to our door. For comparison, I noticed they were $16 today at Market of Choice, and those are farmed, not harvested fresh from the woods around Eugene. he's coming back tomorrow with porcini! We've bought a wide variety of stuff from Matthew, but we especially love the chanterelles. If he has time, he delivers them to our door too, often on the same day he found them. Unless you're gathering chanterelles in your won backyard, it doesn't get more fresh or local than that. His selections are obviously limited to the season, and to what he was able to find/hunt, but he posts what he found on their Facebook page, so you can easily see what's freshly available. That's the easiest way to get in touch with him too (at least for us, since we don't like to call people on the phone) And Matthew's extremely meticulous about cleaning his products too, so you'll get perfect mushrooms ready to go straight into your pan!
