After living in the area for five years, my wife and I finally decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews on Yelp. Well, the reviews were right on target. This place has a huge and amazing selection of coffee from Central and South America and many other places around the world. They offer both beans and ground coffee, or they will grind the beans while you're in the store. There is decaffeinated and caffeianted coffee and teas. Their freshly brewed coffee is absolutely delicious. The store is well organized, clean and neat. The staff members are cery helpful and friendly. There are benches and stools both inside and outside the store if you wish to sit and have it at the store. There is paid metered street parking available. We purchased two cups of coffee and several packs of ground coffee. I highly recommend this business for both coffee and tea lovers. We will definitely be back. read more

Love (as always) the coffee, but those working in the store the day we visited were perhaps the most unhelpful and stand-off-ish crew I have recently experienced. My husband and I usually purchase a couple of hundred $ worth of coffee when we visited from the western part of PA. But the miserable woman at the cash register in the front part of the store made us feel like we were completely unwelcome. I purchased some specialty tea for my granddaughter and she could hardly bother to offer us any milk or sugar. The expression on her face and her demeanor was unwelcoming and dour. When my husband was looking for suggestions to try (while ordering a substantial amount of coffee) the person working with him seemed to be marginally more helpful with our questions, while the bitter woman at the front barely said two words to me or my granddaughter. Plus, we had to stand to drink the tea. Why not have a little sitting area? What happened to this place! Assuming new ownership. We have been coming here for years and really enjoyed chatting about the various blend of coffee with the previous owners. But the vibe of the place is now sterile and unwelcoming. Can't wait to see if the coffee has also changed. I have gotten the sampler packets for friends to try different blends and coffees. They have enjoyed them and found some they really like. I've only bought coffee here -- haven't found anything else in the store that interested me (didn't meet my quality, price, selection sweet spot). I agree with another reviewer about the attitude -- they don't seem to like people looking around and do start following you around. I may pay more attention to the service when I go in the next time to see how it compares to years past. I was not aware that the owner changed, if that is the case. So first, many of these reviews are from before they sold the business to new owners and moved locations. So this review is a long time coming. The old place used to be great. Huge variety of coffee, tea and even fresh roasted peanuts and asian goods. The new place keeps a similarly large variety of coffee and tea, and still sells fresh roasted peanuts. Much the same as the old place. So why the low review? 2 reasons: 1) the owners have a crap attitude and 2) almost everything in that place that has an expiration date is expired. As such, how can I trust the things that don't have an exp date? From the moment you walk in the store the owners make you feel very unwelcome. Their attitude is barely "neutral", and that's how they greet you. If you dare ask them questions their attitude shifts to something like an "annoyed teenager" (these people are at least in their 60s by the way). Ask too many questions, or take too long, then they start watching you like a hawk. (see more on this below) Take a walk down the asian foods/goods aisles and check the dates. Months, sometimes a year+ past expiration. When I mentioned that many things were expired, I was met with hostility. Not concern that they are selling old goods, but anger at being notified of it. The woman then followed me around the store, pretending to be cleaning. I don't know if she thought I was going to steal something or what. I'm a vanilla-ass, middle-aged white man and she's acting like the store owner from Boyz in the Hood. I kept expecting her to say she felt sorry for my mother. The coffee also has it's own issues. Again, no dates so how can you tell when something has expired? I 100% believe they would keep coffee on the shelf until it sold, even if it took years. As someone else mentioned, the flavors are off with the in-house roasting as well. Either they are not cleaning the machine often enough, they're selling old coffee, or they are not adjusting the temps for each type of bean (probably all three). read more

This location is an absolute GEM for any coffee-lover. Whether you are searching for flavored coffee, specialty-grown, or simple bulk purchases, GCR is incredible. I always stop by here before heading off to college to stock up for the semester on K-Cups, pouches of green or oolong teas, and freshly roasted coffee beans. I have been shopping here for at least five years, and I have never tried one of every single option of coffee roasts just yet. Great spot to find a wide variety of original & decaf coffee & tea. Kenyan, Rwandan, Sumatran, Honduran, Guatamalan, European, Javanese, you name it, they probably have it. The cool think is that they have sample packets (maybe 3oz?) for 1.25 each, or 10 for 10. We have been there on a few occasions, Im surprised that I didnt hear of this place sooner, what with all the amazing Yelp reviews. Dont forget their roasted peanuts, which are worth a bag of. It also has a basic, humble selection of asian groceries. My parents took my wife and I here while we visited them for Thanksgiving. What a great little shop. They have a huge selection of tea and coffee. The coffee they roast themselves were immediately able to point to a couple yummy options when I asked for low acidic ones. They also have their own roasted peanuts. The nuts and coffee were available in really cool tins that would make a great gift for someone from out of town. Get within a 1/2 block and you'll smell the awesome aromas coming from them. OK this one is tough and will require a follow up. I loved Rake's when it was in its original location. It was an amazing intriguing place for the tea and coffee drinkers of the world with an excellent Nonstandard Coffee Shop feel. It has been sold and relocated down the street. I popped in to see how it was doing. I think they were still setting up, it doesn't have that unique personalized touch "yet" but I do feel it will eventually. The title is misleading in a sense that the average person thinks it is strictly a coffee shop. As I am new to town I thought I would stop by for coffee at 7am...they don't open until 9am?!!! WTH? Most coffee shops get the most traffic between 6-10am, so they are really losing alot of business!! It is great that they offer so many different types of coffee to take home. About a month ago Greencastle Coffee moved to: 42 East Baltimore Street Greencastle PA 17225 I stumbled upon Greencastle Coffee in the summer about a year ago while I was driving up 81, and it was so miserably hot I needed to take a break... lo and behold, in front of me was a billboard for Greencastle advertising that they had 250 different varieties of coffee. Clearly I needed to stop and see this place - I'm very happy I did! Since that trip to Greencastle, they've become my favorite place to get coffee from, hands down. Nothing I can buy on the shelves at the supermarket comes close to the flavors in their coffee, and in case the coffee itself wasn't wonderful, the people working at Greencastle are also always fabulous. My favorite flavors of their coffee are graham cracker and mocha java. I also highly recommend their sample packets because it's an easy way to try lots of different coffee. Even if you can't stop by their store, Greencastle takes orders over the internet and by phone. I've made several phone orders when I wasn't able to make it there myself, and no matter where I go I know exactly where I'll be getting my coffee from. read more

Loving this place!! They have plenty of coffee beans to choose from. I had bought 12 different kinds of coffee beans, and they are all tasted different. One reviewer had commented that their all coffee beans are burnt and tasted the same. I don't know about whether they're burnt (don't think so but in all fairness I'm not an coffee expert) but the taste difference might come down to how the coffee is brewed. When I fist bought their coffee, I used a coffee maker and they're all tasted not as different. I then use a Turkish method, and the taste of the coffee beans shine!!! I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. It's a rare find. They recently moved down the street about a block. If you've driven by and seen it before, keep in mind the new address is closer to the post office. Not only do they have a huge selection of coffee and tea, but there's an Asian grocery section in the back. I've found a few items that I've never seen anywhere else there. I do wish they actually served coffee at the store. I believe there's an issue with licensing or something that prevents this from happening. Small towns can be harder to do business with than big cities sometimes. If you ever find yourself anywhere near Greencastle and you want some good coffee to take home, this is worth the trip. Oh, and they also have fresh roasted peanuts... and they're HUGE! read more

Man, I can't believe that no one has written up Greencastle Coffee Roasters yet. This place is one of the coolest shops I have been to. They specialize in roasting coffees and peanuts. The best part is that you do not have to buy coffee by pound increments. They have small one pot sample bags of all the flavors they roast (well over 100). My husband's favorites were the apple pie and blueberry flavors. I love trying out many of the rare, and hard-to-find coffees, but I have many favorites that I order regularly such as Sumatra Mehndahling, Columbia Suprema, Bali Kintamous Highlands and several of the blended coffees - such as Breakfast Blend, Cup of Joe, and the House Blend. Great place. The coffee selection is gigantic and the smells alone are worth the trip. We kind of make this place a special day trip, about 70 mi, a few times a year to load up on coffee and peanuts. I love the sample packets - well worth dollar or two to try a coffee you don't want to chance getting a pound of. Also fun to browse the Asian food. I picked up some black rice and some red rice and it was really good. The lady working there is polite and pleasant, and while the guy is quiet he seems pleasant enough. Ahhh this place. I've been coming here for years, whenever I'm in the area. I think this is what heaven smells like. When you open the door, you immediately engulfed in the warm aroma of one hundred varieties of coffee, roasted to perfection. Many, many varieties of coffee, too much to sample at one time. Greencastle coffee roasters could possibly be the worst coffee I have ever tasted, I'm almost certain that every roast is roasted to the same degree and is on the border line of being burnt..... And I'm not talking good burnt like a french roast, I'm talking popcorn flavor. Talk about a great place for Coffee and Tea lovers. I love how the whole store is split, off to the right is everything you need for your coffee fix, and off to the left is all teas. They try very hard to keep a running total of what they have in stock with dry erase boards mounted high on the walls, the only downside is there are so many to choose from, their writing is very tiny you have to have great eyesight to be able to read it all. It is really cool that you don't have to buy an entire bag of coffee that you may not like and each one of their flavors they can put into little sample packs designed to brew 1-4 cups. This goes the same for tea. Everything you see in the jars, you can find in little gold or silver bags. I make a trek here at least once a year to pickup my favorite loose leaf tea (High Dragon) and a bunch of flavored coffee. Snickerdoodle, White chocolate raspberry, Wintertime, Double Chocolate, it's an amazing variety they have here. Along the walls besides having the trial bags of each coffee and tea you are interested in they also have coffee pots, coffee presses, tea bags, cups, balls, strainers, pretty much anything you need to create the perfect cup of coffee/tea. Back in the corner of the shop there is a small Asian shop that has a few things you can pickup, but it's not really the center piece of this establishment. I think its just something they needed to do. Every employee I have come into contact with has been more than willing to give you their insight and be as helpful as possible. One girl spent the entire 2 hours I was there pretty much catering to what I wanted to know and what I needed and at no time did I get the vibe off her that basically said "hurry up" So either she is really good at hiding it, or their employees generally like what they do. As a side note they are constantly roasting peanuts you can pickup for fairly cheap if you are into that type of thing. They roast light, medium, or dark, and have sizes from little handbags all the way up to a 5 lb sack. They take credit cards which is a good thing because you can easily drop 30-40 bucks if you get carried away. If you are a lover of hot beverages, or have someone in your family who is, definitely set aside a few hours to spend in this quaint little shop. read more

Love this place!! So many varieties of coffee. Favorites: Lisa's Winter Wonderland and Highlander Grogg. And the staff is always friendly and helpful. I don't live in Greencastle anymore, so anytime I'm there for a visit I stop and pick up at least 2 lbs of coffee to take home with me. And if anyone visits me from Greencastle, I always request they bring some bags of GCR coffee with them. It's a sad day when I run out... Can't recommend this place enough! read more

I used to make the drive to Greencastle when I went to college at Shippensburg. The coffee tastes great-with quirky names like "Helter Skelter", etc. But the service is terrible! I saw another reviewer say the employees were "indifferent"--true--but I might go further to say they are downright annoyed by customers. They make you feel as if you've done something wrong by walking in the door. It makes the entire experience painful--as they're always watching you like you're going to shove a pound of coffee down your pants--and are visibly troubled and rude when they have to grind coffee. If you don't have a problem paying the $10 + shipping to order their coffee online--do it. Otherwise, I hope you have a thicker skin than I do. read more

This is an awesome little place that you would probably miss if you weren't looking for it (and possibly still miss it even if you were). They have dozens and dozens of different kinds of blends and flavors of coffees, it's almost a little overwhelming. You can get coffee by the pound, but they also have small sample packets which are awesome if you want to try a bunch of different kinds. They brew coffee that you can purchase a cup at a very reasonable price. When I went in they only had one type made which I wasn't incredibly interested in, but the lady working there offered to make any of their other kinds of coffee for me, which is simply amazing and incredible customer service. Great selection of coffee - lots of choices. Shop smells wonderful. Staff is borderline polite. Biggest complaint - it's 2016 and yet they require a printed hard copy of their coupon. There is no barcode on the coupon and therefore, no need for a printed copy.
