This pup has Heartworms, Erlichia, Lyme, and anemia. We are opting to treat him, even though it can be risky. The staff have been so kind and helpful, and they have made the trips in enjoyable (even if I am dropping thousands of dollars). My point for this review is that you cannot judge a business by the amount of stars they have on the inter-web. Most of the bad reviews are left by miserable people who want everyone else to have a miserable time. These folks here are caring, honest, and straight to the point. If that isn't your cup of tea, then find another vet who is willing to tiptoe around what needs said. They aren't here to stroke your delicate ego, or be a doormat either. They are people treating your animals and they deserve as much respect as everyone else. If they cannot be at your beck-and-call, then learn to be patient, or go elsewhere to others who will allow you to be a brat.

I put my fur baby down that I had for almost 18 years because of his health and I used their services, the vet tech, Haley promised my animals collar and hair clippings when I went to pick up his ashes, the collar nor the hair were with it so after two attempts of trying to resolve the issue, the manager Erica gave me a call and was very careless and said they are human, and there was some miscommunication, which I understand, but in a situation where you are trusting them with a loved pet it is absolutely heartbreaking to not get any compassion. Erica was very a passive, aggressive and rude. She made excuses rather than taking accountability, this is not just an issue you can sweep under the rug, this is very negligent on their part so I would not recommend taking your loved one. I am absolutely broken that I have nothing of my animal when I was reassured that I would.

I had an emergency with my dog who got very ill, throwing up, and wasn't eating. So I took her to Champaign. They wanted to put her down. However here at Animal Family Vet, they let me know that we could prolong her life as long as possible because she is doing so well and what to watch for. And support her as her cancer spreads. They even pointed out things that the other vet missed, such as arthritis in her low back. They gave me medicine and a referred a Chinese herb that helps with her low red blood cells. I will never take my animals anywhere else as long as possible, because I know they truly will do anything possible to help my family.

He has seen us through cancer, kidney failure, spinal issues, vestibular disease, torn ACLs, a spinal stroke and two euthanasias. He's always been willing to discuss all available options. His wife, Debbie, answers the phones and is a gem. I love that she knows who I am and who my pets are when I call. Dr. Art also provides emergency care for his current clients, which is a huge bonus. Unfortunately, over the years, the level of service has declined. I can't be sure, but I don't think they still house community cats or cats that are available for adoption. The basic exam that they do couldn't take longer than 30 seconds because all 3 of our cats were in and out in less than 5 minutes. They all received vaccines and had the brief exam done within that timeframe. The checking out process took much longer. Following COVID and the protocols that changed, I just don't feel like things ever got "back to normal." I understand that this is an animal care facility, but it was truly disgusting and especially rank the day that we went in there. I would hope that someone mops daily, but the floor looked like it had definitely not been cleaned in a week. The nature of the business is likely to explain the mess, but some efforts to air the place out a bit would be appreciated. The staff are all really friendly and the cost, though it has gone up steadily over the years, is still the most affordable that I've found. You simply cannot beat a good deal on the necessities.

We dropped her off and then got called shortly after to see if we could come back and be with Nova while they sedate her. They said they would rather have us there to calm her down than to put a muzzle on her which I really appreciated. She's normally anxious around new people and when we went to pick her up she seemed completely okay. I was very nervous as this was her first vet visit (with us at least) and I couldn't be happier. We're going to monitor Nova over the next couple weeks to make sure everything goes smoothly. Other than that, I definitely recommend coming here.

Maybe this is a new thing that vets are doing to make a few extra bucks, I never had this experience anywhere else. They also take payment in the room and have a separate exit. They stagger the appointment times as well to limit interactions w other animals. Highly recommend tho it did seem to be on the pricey side. It was $240 for a visit for what was probably allergies and caused some itching on my pup.
