They are helpful and responsive to any query or issue you may have (from true emergencies to the borderline neurotic concerns we all have as pet-parents). Dr. Tyson Medlock is particularly amazing. Dr. Medlock cared for my dogs (a 5lbs Yorkie and a 120lbs Great Dane) during the three years I lived in Bloomington. It may be cliché but I truly wish my GP showed as much concern about my wellbeing as Dr. Medlock does for his patients. He always provides the highest level of care during regular checkups, surgical consultations, and emergencies. While Dr. Medlock has helped me through a number of scary moments with my Great Dane (they tend to be clumsy and will eat anything left within their reach), I will be forever in his debt for the counseling and aid he provided while I was traveling with my horse-of-a-dog in Kentucky. I woke up one morning to my Dane showing all the signs of bloat and immediately took her to the nearest Veterinary Emergency room. Dr. Medlock worked with the emergency room doctor over the phone and took the time to counsel me through next steps. His ability to explain and advise on the best care for your pets is unparalleled. With his help, my Dane made it through those scary moments (which turned out to be a serious infection) and has been thriving ever since. In summation, Dr. Medlock and his team at Bloomington Veterinary Hospital provide the best veterinary care I have ever experienced during my many years of K-9 ownership. The fastest I could find was a vaccine clinic from the Monroe County Humane Association, where they received a first leptospirosis shot from Jim Koch whose business address is this clinic. I spent the entire day driving them down to make sure they were protected. However, no one told me a booster was required. Nothing was printed, nothing was on the receipt, and nothing was said verbally even though I had their shelter vaccination records with me and presented them at check in. I even asked what other shots they needed. Nothing. I stumbled on this 2nd dose needed fact later. As a result, my dogs were under-protected for months on a high risk property, and now they have to be revaccinated as a start over. They were almost certainly exposed when protection mattered most and are now receiving additional doses afterward because of that gap. When I contacted the executive director of the Humane Association, he vaguely said the information had been "available," but could not explain where it had been provided or in what format. Instead of addressing the issue, the response shifted toward suggesting I was criticizing their mission to help animals. That misses the point entirely. If a clinic is going to administer vaccinations, owners should leave knowing exactly what boosters are required and when, especially when you present your records and ASK. Otherwise, they're not helping animals at all, rather are creating avoidable exposure risk and animals end up over vaccinated too. Given this experience, I would not feel comfortable using a veterinary practice connected with this clinic/vet again. I'm also not surprised to see other reviews mentioning confusion and disorganization.

Unfortunately, I was put with a younger doctor who over-medicated both cats. Bella definitely needed the first dental cleaning (general anesthesia), but the second one, a year later, found only moderate plaque. General anesthesia is expensive, not all that good for animals, and should probably be used only when it is really essential. When Max had a slightly hyperthyroid reading, he was put on Methimazole, which was OK with me at the time. Several months later, he had gone from being a lively, playful cat to spending all his days sleeping under a blanket. He also wasn't eating enough and was losing weight. Methimazole can cause hypothyroid symptoms, including loss of appetite. Hyperthyroid cats eat and eat, but can't keep weight on. They are medicated so they don't starved to death. In spite of the fact that Max was not eating enough and three subsequent tests were normal, the vet kept insisting that he was hyperthyroid and should be kept on the drug. I gradually cut back the dosage, letting her know each time. Max got better and put on weight. Even after I discontinued the Methimazole, she wanted me to keep bringing him in every three months for a blood test. BTW, she never ordered any test but a T4. There is such a thing as a thyroid panel, which could have provided more information. I said that there was no point in doing more tests because I was not going to restart Methimazole. She discontinued me as a patient. I think this clinic probably does better with dogs than with cats. Their suggestions on dealing with fecal incontinence were not very helpful. Again, the best ideas came from Dr. Pruett.

I even made a comment about him having stuff all over him and asked what he got into and they said, "Probably everything" and left it at that. So he spent 2 days with poop on him and no one did anything to clean him up. We immediately took him to get a bath and Thor was wimpering and whinning the whole time. The groomer pointed out that his neck was completely rubbed raw down to his skin with fur missing. When we dropped him off they make us take his collar and leash so they used one of theirs on him while he was in their care. We immediately called them and was told a manager would call us. 10 minutes later we got a text message from them (not a call) basically saying this was not the standard they strive for. I told them they needed to call me because a text message is not it. The manager called and reiterate the same thing as a text and even went as far as to say that the reason his neck was raw was because they had to spray him down a few times and when it gets wet under a collar that can happen...if you KNOW this can happen "to a basset hound" why would you not dry them off to prevent the skin from becoming raw and a possible infection?!? Also, we have boarded him and taken him to Doggy Daycare numerous times before and never ONCE have we ran into this issue so don't feed me that bullshit. The manager did offer a complimentary bath and an exam on the house for Thor but if you think for one second I am ever trusting you again with my animals you've lost your damn mind. We took him to have him checked out at a vet we trusted 1.5 hour away to ake sure he didn't get an infection on his neck. Today (Thursday) I spoke to another manager and the interaction was ridiculous. First she started the conversation by asking what I think they could've done differently and then blaming the entire thing on "miscommunication" instead of acknowledging that they 100% neglected Thor while he was in their care. I got a partial refund after I asked about compensation but they have also since blocked me on Facebook after I tagged them in a post about our experience. Both managers response to this was disgusting and lacked any credibility. They are 100% trash and I do not recommend anyone send their animals there.

I don't particularly expect them to drop everything for me if they are finishing up. I also have called to ask questions regarding fleas and vomiting, and received good answers and advice.
