Went here for a 90 minute deep tissue massage. This was my first time going to this place. My therapist was a very nice woman, but unfortunately the massage simply didn't suit my preferences. A deep tissue is supposed to strong and work out knots and aches and pains. Believe me, I've had plenty of them so I'm using to feeling that firm pressure. I'm not sure if she was new or inexperienced, but I almost felt like she was afraid to touch me or something. Her handling of my body,when she was moving me in different positions, was so light and delicate that it felt almost ticklish. Very strange. I did ask for more pressure once, and she did give that and worked pretty nicely on my back, but for the most part everything felt off. She used very little oil on me, so the strokes didn't feel as smooth and for the most part, it was all too much on the surface. I didn't really feel like I was being worked on. This place seems to be rave reviews for massages, so It may just be that I didn't get the right therapist for me. read more

I came here for a deep tissue massage after my mom got one here. Sherley, the masseuse, is amazing and I would definitely recommend her. I felt immediately at peace with her and very comfortable. The pressure was just right and I felt rejuvenated after. I almost feel asleep. I will definitely go back and maybe even try the sauna. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars and not 5 is because the place is small and you can hear the conversations in the foyer/reception area which was a bit distracting at first. I have only taken a few classes but the teachers, while different, are all kind and caring and offer their knowledge to every student. So I'm a massage snob - I work out a lot and I am training for an ironman triathlon - so I need someone strong and also gentle when appropriate. So I went to Lorraine and she is the very best. She communicates well, she is very relaxing and she knows what she is doing! Lorraine is extremely professional and knowledgable, she even gave me tips on posture to minimize my shoulder scrunching and showed me ways I can "reset" my shoulders on my own. I had a great experience here. The space where yoga classes are held has a great atmosphere. I took an Anusara inspired yoga class, which is a stagnant (non flowing) style of yoga. I started with this type of practice years ago, so I definitely had some break-throughs re-visiting this wonderfully grounded practice. The teacher was really phenomenal and had such a great voice. I loved the challenges and highly recommend this space to other people. I happen to also teach, so it's refreshing to find a great studio with integrity like this one. read more

Well I've been getting massages for nearly 30 years. That said I have gotten all types of masseuses. Those that are simply clock watchers and do a cookie cutter job or those who think outside the box. Leah is one of the best I have EVER had work on my body. Her work on my legs the stretches she does was unlike anything I had before. She listens and then creates a massage that works...legs, back or neck she has ideas on how to reduce your pain. I have been practicing in Greenhouse Holistic for the past 3 years. Although I live an organic life style and I don`t mind most of the sweat smells, except for the Roebling location - DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SWEAT SMELL IN THE AIR, PLEASE!!! I can not focus in the practice no matter how much I try to remain peaceful. They need an air cycling system! Specially in the summer, they dont let the air come in and out, classes only have 15 minute breaks in between, the smells reminds there throughout my entire practice. No need to talk about the yoga mats`s smell anymore. read more

First off, the place is right off of the L, so it was super easy to find. The massage was great and very much needed. The room was relaxing and the pressure was just right. Insanely crowded classes. rather overwhelming for a regular person who is not a totally buff yoga bunny. the teachers here are great but for now I'd probably rather get instruction from youtube than have to fight for a sweaty rectangle mere inches from people on each side of me. My masseuse was incredible. Kind and warm, and very pleasant. After a quick & easy check-in at the reception, she led me to the spa, a few doors down. The very minimalist yet serene spa is comprised of a combination of stone and wood. It's small, but very clean and comfortable, with calm, soothing music filling the background. I can say this was the best massage I've ever had. The masseuse applied just the right amount of pressure, relieving stress and tension. Her energy was very positive. I think I really like this spot.... I normally go to manhattan for all my massages but this place can def be my back up if I can't make my regular spot. I had a groupon and decided to use it before the expiration date. 1 hour deep tissue for $40 not bad... Initially I walked to 88 Roebling and I was almost discouraged because my initial view made me feel as if they were renovating ... The receptionist sent me a few doors down to 218 N 7 ( side note its a short walk). There I was greeted by a new receptionist offered some water and filled out a brief questionnaire. My masseuse was CHADD he was great. He went thru all my trouble spots and did inquire if I wanted more or less pressure. I ended up falling asleep a couple of times... The only complaint I have was that my room was in front of the spa and I could hear everything going on outside despite music in my room. so def make sure you don't get your room in front. If your looking for a spa that's elegant and fufu then this is not your spot. If your looking to get the job done then I'd say give this spot a try. Regular prices for massages are $80 and they offered me 20% off my next visit if I booked within 24 hrs.... I have been *floating* for 24 hours since getting a massage from Sabbath yesterday. You know those massages where the whole time you're just thinking "Oh, yea, stay right there... yes yes... NO NO! Okay, to the left, leeeffffttt....NO NO!"... I didnt have time to think a single thought - he was two steps ahead of me the whole time. He. Is. AMAZING. Had an hour long deep tissue for a specific injury. He gave me a full body session, with deep tissue, some shiatsu-esque stuff, really amazing energy, perfect amount of pressure, and he really listened to what was hurting and how my body responded to pressure. I like this studio because it's unpretentious and usually not too crowded but for some reason I'm slightly biased against Greenhouse. I think it's just because they offer several different types of yoga and pilates and I'm more used to studios that focus on one "type" of yoga. I'm usually all for variety but I guess that in the case of yoga I prefer a studio that specializes in say, Ashtanga or Jivamukti or whatever it is. I like Paul and Ariel (who both teach at Manhattan studios) the best out of the teachers I've had. read more

I received a gift certificate and went in for a deep tissue massage. The spa at 88 Roebling is small but with a great ambiance, very soothing and comfortable. A drink was offered as soon as I walked in. Even though I was late for my appointment, the staff was very understanding, and they were able to make up for the lost minutes, and most importantly they didn't rush me out. The masseuse Shyama was amazing and knowledgeable and gave me good tips how to relax tense muscles at home. She really knew what she was doing, and helped a lot with my top body aches and issues. After finishing the massage with all poking and kneading down but with a right amount of pressure I felt so at ease and relaxed.. They use very useful booking system that sends reminders to your email with detailed directions. You can use sauna, but no one told me that before my appointment, so I couldn't use it. read more

Greenhouse Holistic was cool. Came here on a living social deal the staff was welcoming and didn't treat you like crap because you were using a coupon. Nice spot, quite and serene. I got a deep tissue massage, it was nice but I've had better. Unfortunately there was a fly in the room that kept buzzing near my ear which was a huge distraction and prevented me from zoning out for the massage. The also gave a coupon for a free yoga class. Greenhouse has three locations and I've enjoyed classes in all 3 of them. The Driggs location has gotten really cramped during some classes there (and also Roebling, but to a lesser degree), but you can avoid this if you go during off-peak hours. Dana has been my favorite teacher there. I initially went with a coupon but wasn't treated differently than full-paying customers, which I appreciate. I've also had 2 massages here and they were both lovely. The massage therapist in both cases was attentive and the room was very relaxing. The first time I scheduled a massage, there was a mix up on the computer so the therapist wasn't there when I got there. It was really frustrating since I rushed over from Manhattan but the girl at the desk was exceedingly thoughtful and friendly and gave me free access to the sauna since I was still there, along with a voucher for my next massage. I was able to book a Deep Tissue massage same day, which was fantastic as I was in a lot of pain from a back injury. Mimi, my masseuse, was extremely attentive to my pain spots and responsive to my requests. She checked in with me on numerous occasions to make sure the pressure was comfortable and that she was working on the right spots. Overall the staff was very friendly and on top of things. I would definitely recommend this place and will likely be going back in the future. The only thing that could have improved the experience is if there was some music playing during the massage. I was disappointed, but since I was already there...I just went for it. Anyway, I told him that I needed him to concentrate more on my shoulders and he said "ok" but he never did. I guess it went through his ears... The receptionist who was right at the door was typing so loud with her index fingers that I couldn't enjoy the background music. It was not relaxing at all. I had purchased a Living Social deal for $35 which included an hour long deep-tissue massage and one yoga class. I was able to schedule an appointment fairly easily though they seemed to be pretty booked up. The place itself seems like a rookie operation - short staffed, you have to check in at one building and receive the massage in another - though they do have several locations and are just getting off the ground so I suppose it's to be expected. Though I did not take my yoga class during this visit, I can say that the massage facility was nice and clean. I had Josh Rubin as my massage therapist (https://www.zeel.com/d/272502/joshua-rubin-massage-therapist). This guy was incredibly knowledgeable, very thorough in his questioning to ensure he understood what I needed, where my problem areas were and what to expect from him; very polite and respectful. He made sure I focused on my breathing and releasing my muscles, and offered much follow-up advice as to how to ward off symptoms of my problem areas in the future. Word of advice: he is heavy-handed and indeed offers deep-tissue massage. This was more like muscle work I have received at my chiropractic office, that being, trigger point therapy and myofascial release, as described on their website. read more

I'm not a fitness person and I really don't love classes. As someone on a tight budget, I don't usually splurge on things like fitness classes or massages. But a couple of years ago, I herniated a couple discs in my back, and after maxing out on the number of physical therapy sessions my insurance company allowed, my therapist recommended pilates as an alternative. Pilates with Erin Beneze has changed my life. She's amazing. Her pilates classes are fun because of the positivity and joy she brings to the room. Her knowledge of anatomy is impressive and she really seems to care about and focus in on the individuals in her class. She cues a lot (which I really appreciate, especially when I was new to pilates and fearful of pushing my injury too hard), but somehow manages to do so in the most unobtrusive, natural way, so that the class really flows. I feel stronger, more flexible and more aligned than ever after attending her Tuesday class regularly. Working with her has relieved me of so much back pain, I'm incredibly grateful to her. Then I came in for a massage with Tawana Thompson. It was by far the most personalized massage I've ever received, and one of the all-time best. She really focused in on the particular issues I am having with my hips and sacrum. She even took time after our hour was up to show me stretches and solutions I could apply myself at home. Best massage I've ever had!* Bought a LivingSocial deep tissue massage ages ago and needed to use it before it expired. It was easy to book an appointment (this was even before they separated reception desks for yoga/massage). Everything is digital- they use a calendar program that sends you an email confirmation with an iCal attachment immediately. My only complaint was that they rescheduled me with another massage therapist and didn't let me know before I walked in. But it worked out for the best, cuz my replacement therapist Leah was awesome. My body is basically all function and no grace. Imagine a well oiled machine- I'm the complete opposite of that. Leah took the time to really focus on my problem areas and tried to help me figure out why I was having chronic pain issues. Now, I've never had a deep tissue before, but I'll definitely have another. There's bad pressure ("hey kid, try some of this devil's lettuce, all the cool kids are doing it!") and good pressure (*proceeds to hum the intro riff to Under Pressure*). The deep tissue was definitely fell into the good category. I felt like a million bucks afterwards and slept like a baby that night. My boyfriend got us both living social vouchers for Deep Tissue Massages and a free Yoga class. We attended the Vinyasa-Int. on Roebling that was very good and challenging. The teacher was inviting as well as the class. Since my boyfriend had never had a professional massage. I thought it be best with a woman. So I lucked out and got David Greenhouse and the whole signature massage. He gave me a 90 minute massage with hot stones. He is extremely professional and fantastic at what he does. My boyfriend said his masseuse was okay but she wasn't as strong as he needed for a deep tissue massage and wasn't as complimentary to him as my masseuse was to me. We plan on returning again. She was attentive to what was bothering me, worked out all of my knots and maximized our time together. Beyond that, Elaine was kind enough to listen to my problem areas, dig a little deeper with questioning to ascertain the likely cause(s) of the tightness in my back, and give me excellent advice for how to maintain better proper posture at work that will aid my general well-being and limit the painful tightness that I tend to experience. She is professional and clearly passionate about her work. Review is for Vinyasa classes: I want to like the classes but I think the space and location is a setback. I'll give 4 stars for the quality of the teachers though. They were great and definitely pushed me and corrected me when I needed it. Got a great workout and has elements of chanting/meditation incorporated. But the class is on the ground floor and the windows are always open. You tend to hear the high-schoolers walking around, cars, and other pedestrians chatting while waiting for the traffic light. Maybe if they lowered their prices, I'd keep coming but for now it doesn't seem like it's worth it to pay for that space. read more

I go to Greenhouse for the yoga and Pilates classes. I love the Pilates classes but the yoga classes tend to be overcrowded. The teachers are great and knowledgable. However, I would like more advice on how to improve my individual practice and I get almost none from the teachers unless I ask after class. A downside to this studio is cost, it's expensive! Esp when the class is absolutely packed to the brim! For yoga studios in the hood, Greenhouse is a solid choice. Check out the core integration class! read more

I no longer live in Brooklyn and I miss Greenhouse immensely. Every single teacher is talented and knowledgable and comes with their own take on the style they teach, there are a myriad of class times/types to choose from between the two locations, and every once in a while you can catch a class with only a few other practitioners. I've tried many yoga studios in many locales throughout the world and Greenhouse still tops the list. I also got a massage here once through a Groupon deal. 5 stars for the space where massages happen - clean, relaxing ambiance. 3 stars for the masseuse - she was kind and asked me if I had any issues, but this was on the walk over from the yoga studio (where you sign in for your massage), so I felt rushed and kinda weird talking about it in the street. Also, she didn't focus on the areas I talked about, and when she asked for my feedback after the massage (I mentioned I would have liked more attention to the area I had issues with), she said, "Well normally people request specific things before the massage, that way the masseuse knows what to work on" (uh, hello, I did. maybe she didn't hear me over street traffic). 3 stars for the massage itself - not bad, not amazing, but overall I enjoyed it (difficult for me to NOT enjoy a massage). 2 stars for reception - I understand that NY real estate is ridiculous and the space is probably really expensive. BUT still, don't pretend to have a comfortable waiting area when there is a giant bag of towels on the only seat in the room, which is cramped in the small space between the entrance and the receptionist's desk. Also, I scheduled my appointment and confirmed it over the phone. When I got there, they said my name wasn't in their system. Luckily, after about a half hour of waiting to know when I could reschedule, they fit me in for later that day. Would I go back? Nope. I understand that if I (a) went on a different day, (b) at a different time, and (c) had a different masseuse, I may have had a totally different experience. They often offer deals through group discount sites, and they don't limit you to buying one one time and then never purchasing any more. They do have devoted time slots to voucher customers, which shows their dedication and loyalty to return customers, and being a returning customer, I really appreciate that.. I'm not someone who wants to jump all over town and get as many cheap massages as I can from anywhere I can get them. I want to work with someone repeatedly, who knows me and can help me progress through my running training and busy work schedule with less pain, greater mobility, and consistent endurance to the tough work I put my body through. Cannot say anything bad about the massage because I haven't had. BUT - I can say that I bought a Groupon massage that was "good" for 60 days (non refundable". Have been trying for 7 days to book. For anytime in the future. They always claim they are booked - going way out and they never return calls. They stated they would email a schedule to show available times, never did. I will now work through my bank for my refund. What a pain!!! This type of business practice eventually catches up, no matter how good the massage, do not offer what you cannot produce.
