Greenleaf is no ordinary gallery, and Pat Odlaug is no ordinary woman. Pat stocks her gallery with stunning, unique items. She does whimsical folk art as well as she does fine art. Whether I'm carrying one of her bags or wearing some of her incredible jewelry ... people always stop me to ask where I found my treasures. Chief among my favorites is Pat's huge collection of Jes Maharry jewlery. Sundance Catalog has always carried a few pieces of Jess ... Pat has hundreds, plus the opportunity to meet Jess once a year! Pat searches the country for unusual items of beauty. She also brings to her gallery meaningful work of artists ... creations that "say something," whether an oil painting or a giant carved sea star (hanging happily in my home). I've never found one retail outlet that carries such a diverse collection. And the setting is a vacation in itself. My children play in the yard, among all the garden art, while I visit with Pat's genuine, warm employees in the cottage. We munch on chocolate while shopping & I always leave happy. I've had the pleasure for many years of visiting Greenleaf Gallery and viewing the latest gift treats presented by an array of really talented artisans. I can find a lovely, distinctive gift matching any loved one on my list and spend as little or as much as I like. Greenleaf has also graced my own home both indoors and out with some of my favorite things. My husband has also come to know that Greenleaf is the place to go for a unique, quality gift for any occasion. Gallery owner Pat shows her exquisite taste in everything she provides for our shopping pleasure. Just going there is an experience in itself. The welcome is warm regardless of whether you make a purchase or not. You can browse and wander through a honeycomb of small rooms for as long as you like and when you leave, your package is wrapped in such fun and fine bags, paper, tissue and ribbon that you almost don't want to open it. Although Greenleaf Gallery is a short 20 minute drive from my house, it was my sister-in-law from Colorado who introduced me to this charming, treasure-filled cottage several years ago! It is simply a delight! Located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, the cottage is tucked behind the owner's beautiful home. It is filled with fabulous one-of-a-kind pieces......you can find everything from painting for your walls to wonderful jewelry (my favorite!); handmade scarves and mittens to a box of pretty notecards. I can find unique gifts as well as the many wonderful pieces of Jes Maharry jewelry that I have purchased for myself over the years! The owner, Pat, treated me as a friend the first time I walked in the door. The women who work there are so kind and helpful; they, too, are like old friends! I can't think of a better little gem than "The Cottage". This little place is tucked away in the woods in Bannockburn, and it's the perfect getaway for a shopping experience. I love that it feels more like an experience than it does shopping when I visit the cottage. The space is warm, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and there are always new treasures to discover. I love that all the pieces seem to have some meaning to them whether it's to make you laugh, to inspire hope, or to encourage you to dream. The merchandise has been thoughtfully curated, and I always seem to find something new and unexpected every time I visit. Greenleaf is the first place I think of when I need a gift for someone, and when I need a little pick me up myself, I can count on finding it there. Far and away our favorite shopping (and browsing) venue. Every room in our house features something we purchased at the Greenleaf Gallery, plus we bought a fabulous bird "condo" for our yard. Everyone we know has received at least one gift from us purchased at the Gallery. There are so many wonderful, unique things to see--at a wide variety of price points--that we have to walk through at least twice per visit to see everything that's new. Even my husband loves going there, and I know he relies heavily on proprietor Pat for my birthday and Christmas gifts. Going to "The Cottage" (Greenleaf Gallery) is always a treat, and sometimes we go "just because." Greenleaf has the most wonderful selection of art, jewelry, and gifts in all price ranges than in any gallery/shop in the Chicago-land area. Pat the owner is a wonderful, warm and talented woman who finds the most amazing art and gift items to sell in her gallery. All of her employees are so kind, lovely, and helpful. My sister from DC met the owner, Pat, and her husband in Croatia on vacation. They were so incredibly nice that when my sister came to visit me here in Chicago, we went to Greenleaf Gallery. That was 4 years ago and since then, the store has been a lifesaver. I love to shop there for creative one-of-a-kind gifts for friends and family, I had a great time creating a kid-friendly Sticks coffee table with Pat, and sometimes I just like to go and browse to see all the pretty new things they always have. It's sad to say, but there are few places left where you can go to find unique gifts and household items that are at a reasonable price and sold to you with the most friendly of service. Tucked away in the woods of Bannockburn Illinois is a magical cottage filled with so much earnest art and craft it made me shiver with delight the first time I discovered it. The next time I stopped by the gallery I shivered again. There are always new wonders to discover there.
